Perfect dreary day for some Pho. We decided to share a couple items and got the vegan fried rice and vegan pho. Neither item disappointed, but we both agreed we're getting our own pho next time. This blows away the pho at our previous hangouts, by a mile. The seasoning of the broth is outstanding. The spices in the broth are what make this dish. Love the addition of mushrooms, tofu cubes, cilantro and bok choy which is very different from the Vietnamese pho version. We also had two of the mocktails made with Apple Cider Vinegar and they were tasty and refreshing, would definitely get those again. Very pleasantly surprised at this place! We stopped by here on the way from a road trip through Tennessee and was craving a good meal. We found this place in Knoxville and decided to try. The restaurant is located at the end of a street, we parked right in front on the street. It had cute outdoor seating and a fire pit but it was later and chillier in the night so most people were inside eating. The restaurant is truly in a house, which we found very charming. The different rooms had some seating. We were sat in the front first room which had four to five tables. The room behind us had a bar and a few tables as well. The table comes with a few sauces (hoisin, chili, and fish sauce) which you could use to add to your meal. For appetizer we ordered the fried tofu and eggplant which was nicely crispy without being overly breaded or fried. We ordered the combo 4 and the crispy chili noodles for our main meal, both of which were flavorful and definitely had "wok hei" - you could taste the flavors in the combo 4 which had rice, potatoes, beef, shrimp and something crispy to give it texture. The chili noodles were tasty and had a kick to it, with plenty of baby corn, string beans and veggies. Only complaint is that some of the food was too salty for our liking/what were used to, but nothing deal breaking. I think I missed this place because earlier versions of their menu were did not clearly indicate anything about suitability for special dietary needs. The menu I saw as of this writing contained ample options with clear markings regarding vegan and gluten-free concerns, and when I ordered a Thai Tea with my food, I was warned that it had dairy in it. So they now get an A from a vegetarian perspective. The location is quite strange; a residential-looking building next to a complicated intersection with no obvious parking nearby (the park near the river is a good bet). It is a splendidly artsy house, with some exceptions (see below). The food delivered everything I could have asked for it. I have long sought a Cambodian restaurant as the cuisine has not mainstreamed in the U.S. as other Southeast Asian cultures have. The salad I ordered was magnificent, resembling the complexity of flavors and shredded ingredients I'd get at Burmese restaurants, with some delightful clear mushrooms, hearty peanuts, and a fruity vegan dressing. I ordered this place's version of pho, more like a Vietnamese style dish, partially because it was slightly discounted as a lunch special. It was an excellent rendition, with nicely braised vegetables and fresh garnishes on the side. A word of warning: they have what I think is housemade hot sauce at the table, and it is ferocious. I've ordered the maximum spice level at more Asian restaurants than most people will ever visit, and it usually bores me, but one small spoonful of this stuff lit up my entire bowl of pho and thoroughly cleared my sinuses. I'm not saying it wasn't delicious, but exercise caution. The Thai iced tea was tasty, if perhaps a bit too sweet, and I consequently skipped what might have been a very nice dessert. I would rarely comment on it, but the restaurant's messaging on social and political issues was obtrusive and misguided. I'm rating the food, but I would have hoped that people with ties to Cambodia would realize how bad politics can get and would exercise restraint. They have their free speech rights here in the U.S. of course, and I ate my food, left the tip I normally would, and got on with life. read more

Service was some of the worst I've ever experienced. Slow, careless, and forgetful. Our apps came out fairly quickly but entries were forgotten. As the sever refilled our water he also spilled it on the table and didn't come back to clean it up. Food was ok but not worth coming back for. My love affair with Landing House continues.. This place is so welcoming! It is a old home turned restaurant & bar with a large outdoor seating area on the front lawn. The staff always greets you with the warmest hello & they serve the most impeccable food. And beware, the food packs a punch (spice-wise)! The chili crisp noodles are my go to, so yummy. The flavor palate is diverse and so crafty! My boyfriend changes dishes, but this time he had the kimchi rice & he loved it! We shared the fried spring rolls (with pork) and those were AMAZING! I love this cute Asian place, located in South Knox, in a house that you could easily drive by and pass it without seeing the restaurant. They do have quite a few wooden picnic tables out front so that should make it a little more noticeable. The parking is in the back of the house or if you can find a spot on the street those are first come first serve. I have tried a variety of things here and there have only been a couple of things I have not enjoyed. Appetizers - I like the Eggplant & Tofu frites however when they first opened they were skinnier pieces they would fry, making them crispier, they are now larger and not as crispy but more soggy. I really love their chicken wings (cilantro flavoring is delicious and not overpowering), Gai Len (chinese broccoli - sauce is amazing), and I really love their egg rolls. Entrees - The Knife Shaved Noodles with Beef, and the Pork Fried Rice (Combo #1) are my favorites. I could eat those just about everyday and I would recommend if you are going to check this place out to definitely order one of these 2 suggestions. I have not tried their Pho yet, as other reviewers state its not their favorite. I love Bida Saigon for Pho, so it will be hard for anyone to beat that pho out. I also recently tried the madras curry and it tasted a bit off, it wasn't sweet enough and the chicken was tough in it, almost like it hadn't been cooked enough. They have a full bar. There is seating at the bar, outside or all around the house in different rooms - tables either upstairs or downstairs. They will bring out a trio of sauces, and I am pre-warning you that the bright orange sauce, is hot hot hot. I love it but I have to use it sparingly because it will really light you up. You should be aware that there is no parking right next to the restaurant. We parked down the hill in a grassy area and walked up. No biggie, but if you have challenges with walking on an incline, that may be an issue. We waited a few minutes at the door before being greeted/seated. The person seating you is also the waiter. We waited about 15 minutes after being seated before being approached for our order. The server was friendly, but obviously rushed and seemed a little overwhelmed. The spring rolls were really good. Nice and crispy. The chicken curry was good. Heavy on the turmeric. Which is how hubby likes it. The Pho- combo- #1 was also good after adding a spoon of the hot paste. A+ for the rolls and meh on the dumplings. Next time will try the pork rinds and chicken wings. My husband is a pho nut and he wasn't crazy about his (Rare Eye). He added all of the sauces given to us and said it helped. He said it was kind of bland and somewhat lacking in flavor. I opted for the Fresh Knife Shaved Noodles and WOW. I just moved back to the area after being away and I'm sad I didn't know about this sooner! It's situated in South Knoxville in a home so it's cozy but so cool! We brought my adventurous eating nephew here for his birthday. We shared the Pork Egg Rolls, the Benton's Bacon Spicy Nuggets and the Tom Yum Pork Rinds to start. If you love spice you have to try the Spicy Nuggets, so flavorful and spicy. I will go back for those alone! The Tom Yum Pork Rinds were a nice app to share with the table but I didn't get a lot of the Tom Yum flavor. The pork egg rolls were crisp and delicious. We then ordered the Chili Crisp Noodles, The Chicken and Pork Pho and the Kimchi Fried Rice and added Pork Belly. After sampling each others dishes we all agreed that the Chili Crisp Noodles were our absolute favorite! My nephew liked his Pho. It felt like I was at an asian's big spacious home, and I was about to eat what they just prepared. I did not know how GOOD the food would taste. I hate when I spend money on a meal that sucks. Came here for dinner and ordered $90 worth of food for 3. I entered with the mentality of judging this restaurant based on a number of dishes. The highlight of this restaurant was the jalapeño and ginger iced tea. I love when the spicy parts kick in at the very end. This drink was fabulous. The ginger wasn't too strong. For appetizers, I ordered for us spring rolls, summer rolls, fried tofu and eggplant and tofu skin. I wasn't impressed by any of these appetizers but I must give them credit for the texture. All fried items were crispy. The summer rolls were extremely bland even with the attempted help of the watery peanut sauce. I've made summer rolls before and they were still good without peanut sauce. They need the correct balance of each ingredient. As for the fried tofu and eggplant, it's not a tempura layer of crunch but rather a thin crunchy layer. The tofu skin was packed with pork; tofu skin dishes are usually my favorite but there was nothing addicting about these. It came seated on a pillow of white rice with a sprinkle of soy sauce. The worse dish was the pho. It's literally in a bowl of colored water. We added a bunch of random sauces that we were given to give it some flavor and still nothing. I've never had such a bad experience with a noodle dish from an Asian restaurant before. Maybe I have higher standards for Asian food since my daddio is in the food industry? Or maybe it's because I am used to the competition of the best of the best food in NYC? No excuses. You can't serve pho without a good broth. The house is pretty. There are a few seats outdoors and a ton inside either on the first floor or second. The service was fast. You can ask for the windows to be open instead of the ac on. I had higher expectations for this restaurant based on many positive recommendations - that said, I feel like it might have been an off day for the Landing House. The entire venue is unique and charming, although parking can be a little ridiculous (both on the one-way street in the front, or in the sketchy area in the back). We were promptly seated by friendly staff, however, there was an extensive wait time (15-20 min) from staff to get orders placed, as well as constant reminders for water requests, with staff not following up after the orders for other needs. It was also another 15min until the check was delivered. While we were sitting inside in the first room in a dark corner, we could see staff running in and out of the house with more service being given to patrons outside. The food is tasty and of good quality, the staff is friendly, but the time management and priorities were lackluster. I would give this place another shot, but won't go out of my way to seek it out again. read more

Finally tried this place and overall enjoyed it. I shared the tofu/eggplant appetizer with a friend and it was delicious. Has a delicious sauce that usually accompanies eggplant dishes. I got the shrimp fried rice and although it was good, it's the main reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5. I honestly could've made it at home. I am appreciative that they were able to sub the steak with extra shrimp for me though. (And I think at no extra charge?) We went at a crowded time so had to wait at the bar a bit and then were seated outside at the porch. The porch was slightly uncomfortable so I wouldn't sit here again.
