Their food seems catered to the non-Asian crowd. Interesting space, with maybe a dance floor in the middle? Extensive menu with Chinese, Malaysian, Thai, and sushi selections. Owners were not very friendly. Menu prices have a column for cash vs credit card. Lunch is $10.38 incl. soup (egg drop, mushroom, hot & sour, Tom Yum). The hot & sour soup was very good - the Tom Yum had no content and just tasted vinegary with a kick. EEL ROLL - $9.34 for 8 pcs. Tasted ok ... barely any eel. BLACK PEPPER STEAK - $10.38 (lunch) Expected a sizzling flavor but nada. Meat quality not good. Boring dish. And the lunch special came w/ so much fried rice (vs entree). SZECHUAN EGGPLANT - $10.38 (lunch) Should've known better this wasn't the sauteed garlic eggplant I was used to when seeing so many different veggies listed in the menu. The dish looked just like our Black Pepper Steak. The eggplant was just very thin pieces. Not spicy either. FYI they're located near the Best Buy and Lowe's. We won't be back. read more

Ordered Gen Tso chicken and a cashew entree. Both looked good, but served little more than room temp. Couldn't find cashews in one and zero spice in Gen Tso chicken. Looked like avg Sysco products because very few customers and serving impossibly fast. Ordered a meltdown dessert with ice cream. Waitess first feigned ignorance when served with no ice cream, then changed up to out of ice cream. No price adjust or substitution. Restaurant has dual pricing (credit card vs cash) which I have no issue with, until I was charged credit card pricing when I used a gift card that carries NO surcharges. I gave this restaurant one last try and it is still without a doubt the worst Asian food I have ever had. Crispy shrimp sushi was soggy inside and lacked flavor. They evidently do not know how to make Penang Curry. It was very watery with overcooked vegetables. The sauce should have been thick like gravy. It tasted like Middle Eastern yellow curry. The mushroom soup, usually delicious in other restaurant, was very disappointing as it was mostly water with no taste whatsoever. I can't believe this place is still in business. So i showed up one late night, and Karaoke night was going on. There was this guy in purple, and he was getting it dirty dancing down. He sang an Alexander Hamilton song from the play. He was having fun, and so was I listening, but Hamilton died twice that night. We ordered a chicken and crab hibachi, steak and chicken hibachi, red snapper hibachi, chicken bento box, and tempura banana. It was all delicious. Come for the food but stay for the show. I enjoy eating their food. Usually order carryout but we do eat in sometimes. The soups are always tasty and not too salty. My wife loves the fried rice and lo mein dishes, not the chicken though. I love the String beans with ground pork. I am also stuck on the House Seafood combination with mixed vegetables. They have many options and eventually I will have eaten them all, (hopefully). This Asia Cafe has taken over the old Taste of Thai location near the Best Buy and Lowe's. The interior has been mildly renovated and the patio has been cleaned and is being used for outdoor dining and entertainment. The staff is incredibly friendly. We went on a Thursday evening and it was mostly empty. They had a live band playing outside, but because the patio is unprotected from the sun, there was no way I was going to spend any time out there. They would benefit IMMENSELY from putting some shade out there. I ordered the steak and shrimp combo hibachi and my wife ordered the massaman curry. Everything was out at the table in a very short time. My hibachi came with a soup and my wife ordered a soup for herself. I'll start with the good: the hibachi was excellent. I was a little surprised as I was expecting beef chunks, but what I got was more along the lines of a sliced beef. I would have been disappointed, but the beef was seared and slightly crispy and tasted wonderful. The shrimp were some of the best seasoned I have had in a hibachi meal. The veggies were plentiful and properly cooked and the rice was also good. My only gripe is that I prefer a more rare meat preparation, and there's no way to get a nice tender rare on these strips. Overall, I would still get it again. I opted for the egg drop soup and was pleased with it. My wife ordered a hot and sour soup and said it was one of the best she's ever had. Now to the meh part. My wife's massaman curry was ordered with chicken and came out with tofu... yuck! The server promptly replaced it and it was back at the table within minutes. When my wife originally ordered it, she was told it defaulted to a "1" spice and she asked for "1-1/2" spice because usually she can handle a little more than "1" spice. When it first came out (before she realized it was tofu) it was definitely hotter than "1-1/2", even I thought it was spicer than she ordered it. So when the plate was sent back. She asked for the "1" spice. We both agreed that people would consider it a "2" spice. Anyway, the massaman curry base wasn't what you typically get with a massaman curry (it was immediately obvious by the color alone). Usually, you expect the base to be sweeter and have more coconut milk. This was not that. I would have called this a yellow curry rather than massaman, but with massaman veggies instead of yellow veggies. It had a very floral fragrance and taste, definitely not what she wanted. She didn't really like it, I didn't really like it, and she said she wouldn't order it again and I would agree. All told, it's clear that this location is still getting into its stride. They had a pretty good looking cocktail program including smoked drinks which we saw a lot being sold. The prices are actually fairly reasonable considering the large portions. We will definitely be going back (but not for the curry), maybe also visit their other location that has the table-side hibachi experience that this location does not have. Their patio also is in desperate need of solar control, the poor fella performing was obviously sweating, and uncomfortable with the sun directly in his eyes, so indoor seating only until the sun goes down. read more

This place surprised me a bit. First, I'd like to make certain, but their logo out front looks exactly like a fast-food chain (I Know there are 2 branches in Alcoa-Maryville) that is not bad, but has a much more limited menu and very little ambience/decor. This place also lacks muchy in the decor department, but the menu is HUGE and from our sampling (six of us all trying various things), everthing was prety solid. My wife and I both had Malaysian dishes. Mine was a bit too much like roast beef with gravy; wish I had asked for spicier. She said the shrimp and squid in hers were both good. Others had pho, sushi, Thai and Chinese dishes. All six folks know their Asian food and all said it was decent, at least. They have a huge selection of beers, both canned and draft. The food was good. My problem was when I got the bill, they had automatically added 10% if you're not paying in cash. Credit card companies charge the merchant 2.75ish% fee, so the restaurant is making money on you there too. I feel this is bad business conduct considering today's economy. read more

We ordered fried tofu with satay. The satay sauce was SO sweet, we had to mix in at least 2 tablespoons of soy sauce to make it edible. I had the pad thai, which was no way near what I've come to know as pad thai. This was rice noodles (right) with this thick, gloppy, sweet and sour sauce all over it. The lime you're supposed to squeeze over it was as dry as a rock. My partner got sushi which, he said, was "ok," so I'll give it two stars for getting SOMETHING right. Had the worst experience here and would not recommend this place to anyone. The service was horrible and the prices are not accurate. They charge additional fees if you pay with card and already included an 18% gratuity onto the bill when there were only 3 of us. When asked why those charges were added onto our bill, they stated that it is all automated through their system. Prices on menu are not the prices they charge on your bill. They are only if you pay in cash. They tack on more when they bring the bill. $4 for a soda is ridiculous. Food is pretty ok. On 02/29/2024 I visited the Asia café out west. I used to go to the one off Callahan, but the sushi had gotten so horrible, I'd given up on that location completely! I decided I'd try Asia Café out west bad idea! Only thing decent was the egg drop soup! So I ordered egg drop soup and scallops and shrimp with garlic sauce. after I had started chewing the first scallop, I knew the scallops were bad and if I would've swallowed that piece, I would've been really sick! It tasted like that batch of scallops went bad, but they had money invested, so they decided to serve them anyway! it was such a long day and I was so tired and hungry that I picked all the scallops out and attempted to eat what I could. If I wouldn't I've been so hungry I wouldn't of ate any of it because the shrimp tasted off as well. And the vegetables were way undercooked, and there was almost no taste to it at all but it's not just this location it's Asia café as a whole when they first came out they were pretty good, but they have went downhill since so much so that you shouldn't even waste your money because you're gonna be disappointed with any dish you order.
