Came here Wednesday 2/22 for the first time. Today is Friday and I'm back already! First order was take out - order of spring rolls and #6 steak and meatball pho. The pho was sooo good! Broth was super flavorful and rich, meat was very tasty and not over cooked. Came with sides of hoisin sauce, sriracha, bean sprout, jalapeño, basil and a juicy lime slice. I do wish they had cilantro with the toppings, but since I took mine to go I was able to add it at home. The spring rolls weren't my favorite , they were mostly lettuce, with a small slice of meat and 3 small shrimp. Taste was just okay, I wasn't expecting the beef, and I think they could have used some basil or cilantro. The rolls were served with chili oil and peanut sauce that was surprisingly pretty spicy as it was not mentioned to be spicy with any text or symbol on the menu. Lucky me I could handle the spice level but I know not everyone would be down, so a milder version might help these appeal to more people. The person who took my order was very polite, told me 10-15 mins and it was done in about 5-10. Everything was packed to go very nicely and I did not encounter any spills on my trek home - I appreciate that!! Overall I really enjoyed my meal and I'm totally sold on the Pho! Excited to try the Steak and Brisket pho next. Downtown needed really needs a good soup spot, I'm so thankful they have moved into the old Kinders location (transit center parking lot). Pho Bonso serves the best authentic pho in Chico. The only other pho in town comparable is Banshee but pales in comparison as Banshee is not authentic pho and belongs in a category of its own. The broth prepared for the pho is distinctly flavored made from experience. Not even the pho from Oroville can compare! The pho is rich in flavor made with love and it's apparent. The service is good. The restaurant has the transitional smell that comes with an establishment containing the best pho north of Sacramento. It can be pungent but the food is worth it. read more

This is my new favorite Pho place! Broth is deliciousness. Even my hubby who isn't a pho fan said he enjoyed the Chicken pho. This time I took my order to go and everything was packaged well with all the condiments and utensils. I love the chili pepper oil they have on the table and he gave me a little portion to go when I asked. Order was completed in 15 minutes, it's clean and friendly service. First visit. Fantastically flavored broth. The steak and brisket were as to be expected, thinly sliced, added to broth just before serving. Very fresh additions. Was in Chico for a work trip and after a few nights of greasy food, I was craving some pho. Found Pho Bonsa on Yelp and decided to give it a try. It's an unassuming spot with a few tables inside and looked to be family operated. We ordered egg rolls, pho dac biet, and some cafe sua da. The egg rolls were hot and crispy, with veggies, pork and wood ear mushroom filling. The dipping sauce was delicious, as were the egg rolls. The pho broth was great, you could smell the different spices and taste the beef in the stock. They were generous with the meat and the brisket was tender and delicious. The cafe sua da was well mixed and perfectly balanced. It had that robust(a) flavor that you only get in Vietnamese coffee, but it was silky and creamy due to the condensed milk. Lastly the service was great, everyone that helped us was friendly and warm. I'd definitely return here for a bowl of pho if I'm in Chico again. read more

I've always gone to Pho C&C when I've had a pho craving but the last few times I've gone, the noodles haven't been the best and the service always felt rushed. Decided to go to Pho Bonsa today and seriously, it was DIVINE. The location is clean and the staff is friendly and courteous! The regular portion is a good size (not going to feel too sloshy afterward) and the broth was heavenly!! Light, flavorful and aromatic. The flank meat was really good and the soup to noodle ratio was perfect!!! I think this is my new go to spot for pho while in the area!! read more

I got the number 10 Reg size (their largest offering), Pho Tai Chin Gan, my go too at most Pho restaurants. I dined in and it was very quiet with only one other family there. Some light music to set a better ambience would be nice. However the service was quick and i had a bowl of pho in front of me in less than 5 min. Before adding anything to it, the broth was exceptionally deeply rich and flavorful, the way it should be at a good Pho Restaurant but sadly many lack. A good portion of thai basil, bean sprouts, and sliced jalapeños were added. I only used the chili sauce as it really didn't need any more flavoring from there. Plenty of noodles and good portion of meat. Definitely recommend. Will be back. read more

WOW!! New favorite pho place in Chico!! I tried Pho Bonsa as my usual place was closed and ordered the Pho Tai Nam to go. As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted and the owner was so sweet and friendly, everyone there was. He asked if it was my first time and if I was a student and I told him I was and I wanted to try every Pho place near me. He said their Pho won't disappoint and wow was he right!! First off, the portions were large. This is far more food than I normally get at other pho places - already incredible. Second off, it tastes AMAZING. i have never had an experience where the pho I got tasted so good that I felt like it didn't need anything else added. no hoisin, no chili, no sriracha, no lime or basil. just pure concentrated flavor from the broth. it wasn't overpowering, truly a perfect chorus of flavor. I make pho at home from time to time with whatever bones I have leftover from my meal, ox tail, chicken, duck, beef, pork, seafood etc... its a great way to ensure I'm not wasting scraps. i thought I had my recipe down until I tried pho bonsa. it humbly put me in my place and reminded me that sometimes no matter how much flair you add, you just can't beat generations of cooking instinct passed down and served in a hot steaming bowl right in front of you. Also their Bahn Mi was killer. the pickled daikon and carrot? fire. the meat selection? amazing. soup and sandwiches is one of my all time favorites. this was truly a meal that fed the soul. Service-wise, they were quick and friendly, the server was kind and even filled me in on some items i was unfamiliar with. Ambiance-wise, I've noticed some resturaunts that serve seafood have a pungent background scent that tends to permeate the air. Its not bad, but also cooking is a refining process and sometimes that means some scent pollution from the kitchen is going to happen. To my genuine surprise - they have an open kitchen design where the pots of pho are boiling away right behind the register! And yet the faintest most pleasant smell of broth was ever so gently wafting over the bar. I think this speaks to the cleanliness and quality of ingredients used in their preparation. To not even smell ANY impurities being cooked out of the food was a game changer. I hope pho bonsa stays around for a very very very long time!!! read more

Finally getting around to this review. I've eaten at Pho Bonsa a handful of times since they've opened & it's definitely one of the best pho spots in Chico. Service is always quick & friendly, pho tastes authentic & flavorful, & the restaurant is clean. My favorite is the meatballs! They taste so fresh! I think it's the closest thing to pho restaurants in Sac. They definitely deserve your business so go check them out! read more

Very good bowl of pho! The serving is generous and the flavor of broth very good. So far the best I've had in Chico. Hope they remain authentic and don't "water down" their dishes. Chico badly needs authentic Asian food! Different varieties of meat combo in soup are available just like authentic Vietnamese restaurants I'm used to. This place just opened so they're still getting up to speed with their operation. Need to offer hot tea at some point.
