Asian Garden is located in the little off the freeway town of Corning about 20 min south of Red Bluff. It makes a convenient stop for some Chinese food off the 5 freeway if that's what you're in the mood for. The restaurant is set up more like a fast food cafeteria serving Chinese food. Most of the food is already made cooked and in steam trays, like a buffet, except you don't serve yourself here. You pay by the box of food that they will fill for you with whatever dish you like. At least you get to see the food before you pick what to eat ... some of the trays weren't filled too well and some food looked fresher cooked than others, so pick what you want. Prices are pretty cheap, under $10 for a box stuffed full of food, and that box weighs a lot! I got the kung pow chicken, I think that's what it was, I just pointed to what I wanted and the rest of the box stuffed with noodles and fried rice. I'll say it was filling, maybe not the best Chinese fast food I ever had, but for a little town off the freeway, it's pretty good.

I will admit that I did not like this place the first time that we went here, but after visiting more often my mind may have changed. The Chinese food is good, but not spectacular. It is freshly prepared and has a good flavor profile. The staff is incredibly friendly, polite, and efficient. The bathrooms were extremely clean and stocked. They are now offering sushi which was delicious, and theses rolls are made fresh on site.

Combo 3: walnut shrimp, orange chicken, beef and broccoli

FOOD - Combo 3 Plate: 1 side + 3 entrees. I got half chow main and half fried rice. I definitely liked the rice better. It had more flavor. -- Orange Chicken: this was pretty decent but it didn't taste like your typical orange chicken. 3.5/5 -- Walnut Shrimp: this tasted okay. It's didn't taste authentic to me. 3/5 -- Beef & Broccoli: way more broccoli than beef but that worked out because it was the only vegetable on the plate. 3/5 - Crabmeat Cheese Wonton: 6 fried wontons. These were pretty good. 4/5 - Poke Bowl: I like how you just mark what you want on the form and they make it for you. I chose mixed greens with brown rice as a base, then topped it with spicy tuna and shrimp, crabmeat salad, avocado, seaweed salad, cucumbers, jalapeños, furikake, crispy onions, and sesame seeds with house sauce and spicy mayo. This was pretty good and very filling. 4.5/5 SERVICE: Friendly. I liked that they made some of the items to order. The walnut shrimp and orange chicken were fresh. FINAL THOUGHTS: I would come back for their poke bowl. Their Chinese food wasn't bad but not great.

    So so good!!

The best poke bowls ever!!! The nicest people, very clean and everything is so fresh!!! My absolute favorite place to eat!!

I gave this place a another try and it's not good Chinese, I had the mushroom chicken and kungpao chicken meal, the mushrooms dish needed more salt, the kungpao had a weird sweet taste to it and the rice and noodles are very bland. I noticed that they did add 3 sushi rolls to the menu, I got the shrimp crunch roll to try, that was good. I would only come back for that roll, I hope they add more rolls to the menu.

Mushroom chicken, mixed vegetables with tofu, chow mein and fried rice - combo plate
    Rita V.

We stopped by here to grab some Chinese food. I went with a combo plate with 2 items. The mushroom chicken was delicious! The chicken was tender and flavorful. The mixed vegetables tasted ok. I wish there was more tofu. I also ordered the sesame balls and they are filled with red bean. The sesame balls was really good. We also ordered milk tea with Boba. It's great to finally have a place that offers milk tea in corning. Overall, I'd highly recommend if you are craving Chinese food. Food and service was great here.

Tonight though, the food was next level. To set the scene, the line was out the door when I arrived, but they were flying through customers. I had thankfully placed an online order & saw it ready & waiting for me. My patience was also at a miraculous high. Blessings for all. My husband got the chicken combo plate, and he has a full meals worth of food left over for tomorrow, which is thankfully typical here. In this economy?? Yes please. The katsu was so juicy and crunchy, the bbq chicken was equally tender with a good char in places. I got a poke bowl, and I swear to god in heaven the girl who made this bowl was placed on this earth to bless my dinner tonight. I need also to go back and get her skin care routine. We ordered extra sauce and they literally 3x what we paid for. ETA for the online order was 15 mins, I walked in after 14 & my food was ready. They easily has 10 tickets they were actively working through, and as stated a line out the door. The food was impeccable. It's always been minimal yet warm, but something felt off this time and the one before. The usual calming video of California waves was missing, replaced with a blank wall and '50s oldies music that completely clashed with the vibe. It felt disconnected from what usually made this place so special. **FOOD & DRINK** Ramen: Severely under-seasoned and watery. What used to be a flavorful, hearty bowl now feels lackluster and uninspired. Wakame Salad: The portion was noticeably smaller--20-30% less than usual. Not what I've come to expect from this place. PRICE: $$ I've always been willing to pay premium pricing for the quality, atmosphere, and service, but this time, it just didn't deliver. **SWAG/AMENITIES** - Cozy and unique decor (still a plus) - Menu variety for tea and ramen lovers - Used to have a calming atmosphere (not this time) **STAFF & EXPERIENCE** This is where things really fell apart. The service was slow from the start--30 minutes for drinks, 40+ minutes for ramen. The servers were dry, unpersonable, and barely engaged with us. They didn't introduce themselves or try to make any connection. It's hard not to miss Jenna, who was always warm, kind, and inviting. She had a way of making the experience unforgettable, and maybe even made the food taste better! **FINAL THOUGHTS** Mantra Tea House used to be my favorite spot in town. I came here regularly, twice a month, and never thought I'd feel this let down. The food, service, and atmosphere have all taken a dive, and it's just not the same place I fell in love with. I ordered the shrimp ramen which I believe was $24!! came with 4 shrimps, head off and the broth was so watery and under seasoned I was really bummed!! Their crab cakes were pretty good but also expensive $23 I believe for appetizer, very small portion just one crab cake drinks were cheaper. I would come back here just to drink tea or sake but food was meh for the price. Wish they would make it $12 for the ramen or add some more toppings/seasonings if they want to keep the price.... Then they have the other area once you first come in that it's near the bar overlooking the outside with the big windows . Last but not least you cannot forget about the massive patio with its own huge bar with a massive TV in the middle. It's just a very great space. The food was really delicious. Their menu is pretty massive. I was trying to decide what to pick.. I went with a Rancher burger cooked to my liking which was so perfect for me . I upgraded to the black truffle fries . For drinks my favorite was the lavender one so refreshing. They have a nice Happy Hour every single day pretty sweet right ? The service was excellent from the beginning to end . I could tell this is the locals hang out spot and I see why . The prices were very reasonable specially with the generous portions . Can't wait to go back when in the area .
