I recently wrote a review for our stop at Uncle Chong's in Orland. We travel a lot and enjoy stopping at Chinese restaurants for lunch as we travel to far off places. They all offer their own special way of preparing Chinese food that generally tastes very different than what we found on our 2025 trip to mainland China. I'll pass on writing much about our experience at Uncle Chong's and hope you look up the previous post. The pictures were added incorrectly so I inserted new versions. Both dishes were served with a smile and very generous servings! However, the four shrimp in the kung pao and the very limited amount of vegetables in the chow mien was a disappointment. Our family has been enjoying this restaurant for over 20 years. Never a bad experience or meal whether we dine in or at home.

Not sure if this place just reopened recently? They are doing takeout orders only. Kung Pao was ok. How do I say this without sounding like a jerk?.. Chinese food is better than Americanized Chinese food. I blame all you locals. You go over to Chico, there's a couple of authentic Thai places, a couple authentic Vietnamese places, some passable sushi and ramen spots, and like 10 Americanized Chinese places with no authentic Chinese places ANYWHERE locally. ‍ read more

Wow. Mongolian beef was tender and tasty. Came with chow mein and sweet hot soup. Taking over half home for dinner. The place looks a little scary but its in an old fashioned soda fountain or diner. Will return next trip to orland read more

Uncle Chong's is finally open again and was finally able to try it !! I always go for the Kung Pao Chicken plate which I was in luck and listed as a lunch special. Presentation was lovely! The sauce over the chicken was pretty tasty but it only came with chicken, zucchini and peanuts. No celery or peppers or even onions :( sadly disappointed.. service was fast and friendly ! My dad and I go to Uncle Chong's for lunch once a week, and we are never disappointed. Owners Wayne and Amy and their staff are kind and friendly, and the food is always excellent, served quickly, and quite reasonably priced. Standouts for me: shrimp and vegetables, wonton soup, kung pao chicken, broccoli beef, and hot and sour soup. We are lucky to have this restaurant in Orland! read more

We had take out from here for the first time. The food was fast and ready within 15 minutes. Service was great and the staff was very friendly. We had the Mongolian beef, Wonton soup and pork fried rice. The Mongolian Beef had good flavor and was very tender. The pork fried rice was good but needed a little something-- I couldn't quite figure it out but the flavor just wasn't there for me. It was served with big chunks of pork which I am not used to, but if you are a meat lover you would probably really like that. The Wonton soup broth had great flavor and they were very generous with the Wontons. It included baby bok choy, spring onions and shrimp, pork and chicken. The meat in the soup was very fatty which gave great flavor to the broth, and again, if you're a meat lover you would probably love it. I would definitely like to give it another go and try some of the other dishes and will provide another review! read more

This place is not sanitary, bathroom is super dirty and theirs mold all over the walls. I don't even want to imagine what their kitchen looks like. Even though this place was dirty the food was really good lol read more

We would go with 4.5 really but no halfs allowed. We don't get to this side of the valley very often but Uncle Chong's was a good choice for us. The chicken and corn soup was hot and tasty. We ordered Mu Shu Pork, Sweet and Sour chicken dinner combination and chicken chow mien. The waitresses were sweet. For a Friday night it didn't seem overly crowded even though there were quite a few people there and we were sat right away. The immense ceilings and long bar make it feel spacious and uncrowded. The bathroom was tidy. The food came very fast. All of our entrees were hot and good, what we expect as general Chinese fare and for the price seemed fair. Our experience was exceptional and even though I may not make the 35 drive from our home often (everything is at least 15mins from our ranch in the country) we would definitely stop here again on the way through or come with family who lives nearby. My wife has been coming here for years and She brought me here for the first time about a year ago. We currently live in Willows and drive to Orland to come eat this delicious Chinese food. Wife says Uncle Chong always comes out to say hi and even remembers her old boyfriends she use to come with! lol that made me chuckle. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Food is always great and we always leave satisfied. The prices are amazing and portions are perfect! We always need a to go box. My wife and I always order the corn soup (it comes with the lunch combo). It's very delicious and perfect for a cold day. No complaints and always feel like we got our moneys worth! read more

My son and I had lunch at Uncle Chongs in Orland today. The food was exceptional, hot and fresh. Lemon chicken was delicious all white meat and not heavily breaded. The service was the best! Hey it's pretty good. We found it pretty American and "standard", but decent for a small town like this.

Worst chinese food. My plate of broccoli and shrimp was half filled with water looked like they steamed the broccoli for a century because it was like baby food soggy. The shrimp werent even cooked still white.. No flavor at all.. Went to taco bell afterwards thats how bad it was!!! Dont waist your money!!!! read more

We were driving by town and hoping that we could find a place to eat late at night. We called in the place and the owner was gladly willing to hold the store open for us until we come. Ran into town to get some dinner tonight, and on a whim decided to go to Uncle Chongs. I walked in and was greeted with a friendly smile, and even had assistance in choosing my dinner. I ordered a take out meal and my food was ready quickly. I was impressed with the amount of food I received for the price (a diner special was enough for two meals for me). Food was fresh and good. I will be definitely be eating here again. read more
