Pho Chau is my favorite place to eat in Rochester. This is some really authentic Vietnamese food. Everything here is so flavorful, and my favorite part is that the food can get very spicy! For example, the Bo Kho here is so good. The broth was delicious, and I loved adding the chili crisp/oil provided at the table. The beef was very tender, and the noodles were perfectly chewy too. I got a side of the Fresh Spring Rolls with Shrimp, which were also delicious and paired well with the spicy broth. The menu is quite diverse and has non-noodle/spicy dishes too, including vegetarian options. The service was very quick and the staff were all very friendly. There were plenty of tables too, and this restaurant would be particularly great for large groups. Definitely come and visit Pho Chau!

This place is a little out of the way, but it feels like a hidden gem in Roch. The staff is quiet, knowledgeable, and helpful. I thought the pho tai broth had depth and was fatty with being greazy. This was a quick in and out visit, so I didn't try anything else, but I will definitely be back to try other menu items. Their chili oil was excellent!

No frills pho place with good soup base. Casual dining with fast service. For most the dishes you choose the style and then add the protein which is extra. It's a little pricier than other places - but given the location in Rochester I would say a premium is not unwarranted. Solid food. I'd go back again. Boba teas are also pretty good.

Pho Chau is amazing. The service is beyond fantastic. The food is on point. I love how the pho broth is a little fatty. Most restaurants skin the access fat from the bone and the broth just becomes too clean for me lol Their Springrolls are different from what I'm used to, but it's still good. I love their Chicago fried rice. Something about it is just... so delicious. I highly recommend arriving early as they do get busy quickly.

The service can be better. I dont like when they give the bill on the table as soon as the foods is out. The chicken broth pho is not too tasty. My cousin said the beef pho is better. Pho Chau is not too bad, especially if you're looking for a fix on Vietnamese food. However, with proximity to Pho Tai and other Asian dineries, it is more of a backup restaurant. Menu is not quite as extensive and is pretty overwhelming from a price perspective. A bowl of Pho will run you like $14-15 which is about 20% more than other places. The rice platter (3.5/5) ordered was not as traditional. The rice was not broken, the meat was drenched with food coloring, and the lack of meat loaf and few other items made it disappointing. Wife was feeling Pad Thai (3/5), and this version was really oily. The use of fish sauce was nice, but a little more overpowering than others Overall, Pho Chau is not too bad, but prices and alternatives make it challenging to re-visit.

This review marks my 500th in 2021. It's fitting that I write about a Vietnamese restaurant in Rochester, a city that I called my home for two years. Back when I was a resident, there weren't any Vietnamese eateries in Rochester. I couldn't get a bowl of pho. I resorted to either making my own or heading up to the Twin Cities to get my fix. Just before the pandemic started, I visited Kung Fu Tea and noticed Pho Chau next door. I bookmarked it. On Christmas Eve, I was driving up from Elma, Iowa, and needed lunch. I remembered Pho Chau and drove over here. There is parking in front of this restaurant. There is also more parking around the eatery. I parked closest to N. Broadway Avenue and walked in. A woman was prompt greeting me. She got me a menu and guided me to a booth. It was just before 3 pm and I was hungry. I got the following items: - Fried chicken dumplings - Beef and meatball pho (#17 on the menu) My food came out fairly fast. Both items were brought to my table at the same time. I practically inhaled all six fried chicken dumplings. I was so hungry. These dumplings were great. Each one had plenty of filling. The wrapper on each was thin and crispy. The dipping sauce was yummy. The dumplings were so flavourful. I'd get them again. The pho comes in one size. I got a huge bowl of comfort placed in front of me. I added the bean sprouts and cilantro into my pho, and squeezed the lime. The broth was excellent. It was authentic and so good that the broth scent stayed on my clothes for a while. The beef was tender and didn't require much effort to eat. The meatballs were hearty. The noodles were perfect. I loved it. The removal of a star in my rating was abruptly getting my bill from this woman without being asked if I wanted anything else. She dictated that I was done. Weird. Part of me wanted the che 3 mau, but I decided to now skip it and revisit Kung Fu Tea instead. I went up to the counter to pay for my food with a credit card. I tipped and paid. All done! I used the women's washroom before making the hour drive up to Eagan. It's a single stall and was clean. I'd return again. If I do want the che 3 mau next time, I'll need to order it with the rest of my meal before I automatically get the bill. (500)

Food was very good. Not AMAZING, but very good. I will definitely come back. Especially for the spring rolls, they were very good. The best I've ever had. The place was very busy and you can tell the servers were very busy. We still had decent service, but it could have been a little more attentive. Bathrooms were clean which was nice. read more

We loved this place and ordered takeout from them quite often through the pandemic. Brought home our food, opened boxes and found a VERY long hair with the Orange Chicken and rice. In a time when precautions and health measures should be at their height, this was very disturbing. It would've been very hard for the person packing this up to miss it. read more

Coming from Hawaii last year, we wanted to find something that reminded us of home and we found it in the Pho here. Just like home, if not better. Then new ownership took over. Now it is an absolute shame. Prices jacked up yet food lost its genuine taste and smaller portions. I guess the upped prices weren't meant to cover better ingredients. Just coasting on the reputation that Mama Chau worked hard for. Save yourself some grief and money and make your way to Pho Tai. read more

I ordered the tofu lemongrass vermicelli noodle bowl and it blew me away. I've been eating a largely vegetarian diet my entire life and many tofu dishes often require adding flavor - not the case with the tofu lemongrass vermicelli noodle bowl! I didn't add a thing and it was over the top delicious. Highly, highly recommend ordering it. The service was wonderful too. The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is because the dish I ordered wasn't on the menu. I had to ask for it. Also, they don't offer a vegetarian pho option (or at least it's not on the menu). read more

Went on a Monday evening with family: Appetizer: Crab Rangoon: fresh, crispy, presented well. Accompanying sauce was good but very sweet. Not enough filling however. Entree: Clay pot chicken: was incredibly hot and stayed that way. To the point I couldn't eat it for a while. After that, food was bland despite adding sauces. Drink: Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk: very strong even after the addition of more milk. Could not finish it. I also became pretty sick to my stomach thirty minutes after eating. If I try this restaurant again, I will definitely try the lemon grass vermicelli chicken, as my father had it and it was pretty good. read more

Exactly what they're supposed to be: well flavored, authentic seasonings, good menu options (very few vegetarian choices though), well priced. It gets crowded, but service is fully adequate and the restaurant seems friendly and enjoyable. Portions are generous -- unless you're incredibly hungry, you'll definitely have leftovers for next day's lunch. I'd definitely eat at Pho Chau again. read more

Had the Seafood Pho again today and it was very good. Flavor was well rounded and portion was very generous. Service was very prompt and courteous. Have had their Hot and Sour soup and Springrolls before and they are very good also. I highly recommend a visit here - you won't be disappointed. read more

When I go to a Pho joint, I will usually order Pho Tai and a spring roll appetizer. I've come here about five times over a year and I have never been impressed. The Pho here is below average. The spring rolls here are below average. The flavor of the broth was nothing special. The beef has always come out chewy and not tender. The items they serve to mix with the Pho are limited in quantity and variety. Tables do not come with your standard chili sauce or other basic sauces. The interior is nice but crowded. Parking is very limited and generally awful. Getting out of the location and onto Broadway also is a hassle because traffic during busy hours will prohibit you from turning left onto the street. read more

We were in town for the Mayo Clinic and was looking for something to eat. Keep in mind my family and I do not go to chains. So i went on yelp and this place popped up. And im thankful to the yelpers, it was very delicious. My parents had the curry and lo mein, they raved how much they enjoyed it. I myself had pho and it was rather tasty, the broth was flavorful. Decent. I'm from Texas and we have a large Vietnamese population in both the Houston and Dallas areas so I guess I'm spoiled. But it's been the best food I've eaten here so far and I've been to a 4-star restaurant and Pho Chau was better. read more

I'll make this short but not sweet.... I went in, they sat me down, 45 minutes later I still had the water and the menu all while watching everyone who came in after be served. Nevertheless, I never went back. It's rude to have a dining establishment and you select your customers whom you'll serve first. read more

I love Pho Chau! I love taking friends there who have never had it. All of them have become repeat visitors! Chau run the front of the house. She is super friendly and it only takes a couple of visits and then it's like you've been friends forever! My go to dishes are the Vietnamese Crepe and chicken curry with rice. My husband loves the Pho. Definitely recommend Pho Chau! read more

There are about 100 dishes on this vietnamese menu so if you're a picky eater then well they can even get you more than 100 dishes. I would recommend the curry chicken which is so sweet and savory but i tried the beef curry once which is okay but not a s good as the chicken. Its nice to take out so you can eat it at home but the restaurant is fine too with the decorations and full layout of the building. To be honest the building is a little small so if you are looking for a big party so then you can just take it out to your big party. read more

Love it here. Food is always fantastic and we've never had service that was less than excellent. The pho is particularly wonderful, especially on a cold day. We usually also get a few apps (can recommend the spring rolls and the meatballs highly) and a rice noodle salad of some sort for two people because it's fun to explore the menu. We also usually go home with leftovers enough for another tasty meal, so they don't short you on food. Oh, and the prices are quite good, too. read more

We have lunch here every week or two - need I say more? I always have the Pho Ga - a huge portion of the chicken soup but I always eat more of it than I think I will. It is so very good. My husband tries different dishes and hasn't found one he doesn't love (often goes back to the Pad Thai or Pho Bo, though). It's a comfortable place, always busy but rarely a wait, quick and friendly service, reasonably priced, and they always make you feel welcome. Go. read more

If you are not a coffee drinker they do have matcha and non caffeinated drinks too. The taro was not my favorite. I also had to get some banh mi to try. I tried the grilled pork and grilled chicken, both were marinated nicely. I love that they separate the veggies and sauce on the side when you order to go so the banh mi stays crisp and not soggy.

Awesome food! The location was very easy to find, but the exterior lacked in curb appeal. When you get inside its okay though. Clean, and the decor has a nice Asian feel. The menu is HUGE and it's in Vietnamese (I think? I don't know for sure though). The waitstaff wasn't on the top of their game, but you could tell they were very busy with take out orders. Once we did manage to get someone to take our order, they were very helpful in deciphering the menu, and had great suggestions on what to order. The spring rolls and the crab rangoons are a MUST! I'm not a fan of cilantro, but my mother is and she said the spring rolls were amazing. I tried a bit and they were really great until the cilantro kicked in. I had the crab rangoons and they were amazing! I could have eaten just those and been totally satisfied! Yum! After that my mom got the beef Pho and I got the shrimp lo mien. It came out surprisingly fast and it was the perfect temperature. Chou, the owner remembers everyones name, and welcomes you into her restaurant when you come. It's worth the experience. Next if you are up for it, try the Pho Soup, it is a flavor filled meal in itself that can fill you up not once, but for a couple meals if you are not careful. The servers are attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The kitchen serves up food that tastes great and comes out in a timely manner. Look, I love it when the owner knows your name. It's another thing when she remembers you three months later. Chou is that owner, and she's the best. As for the staff, they are attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and cuisine. The kitchen puts out food that is delicious and efficient. Great food, great people (especially the owner lady). Pho Chau is a place that isn't very well located, the indoor decoration is not great but it is very authentic and the food is delicious. Additionally, this restaurant is quite inexpensive. Make sure you don't come too late, they close early. (Best time to come is at 8.00PM, there are less people).
