On my tour of Vietnamese restaurants in Wichita, this was also very standard Vietnamese. The food tasted great, and was exactly what I was looking for. The place inside was very clean and open, which I appreciated. The only downsides was the portions as slightly on the smaller side. I left pretty full, but I could have eaten more. The price was very affordable so that was probably why. The staff was helpful but did not provide as much guidance as I hoped for. For today, I am given g a 5 star. I used to work in this area and did not for many years. Stopped by a few weeks back, and it was the best I have ever had from this location. It was always ok but this was very good. Medium pho I am used to barely any meat at some other places. Wasn't crazy, but was balanced and fair. Got a small the other day, seems like they cheaped out on filler for barely smaller. Probably the same for large. I like Bun, a tad spicy for my gut. Going to try a few other things. The Pho here is amazing! The meat in the Pho w/steak isn't chewy or cheap like other pho places in Wichita. The staff are always friendly and the food comes out at a modest rate. This might not be the most picture perfect restaurant, but you won't find anything else that has a well balanced pho in Wichita. Also they always have a what sport is going on up on the televisions! We've ordered take out 2 days in a row. Broth, noodles, meat and veggies are separated. You out everything together when you get home. This keeps all ingredients fresh and tasty. Both time we went with the P3 rare steak Pho and pork egg rolls. read more

First time here.. I must say, pleasantly surprise the food has great flavor.. Pho - Broth was on point.. No sauce needed.. Not that fatty either. Which I like. Hu Tieu Thap Cam - pretty good.. Flavors on point and portion aren't bad. Mi Quang - just like I use to eat in Cali.. Da Nang style... Portion sizes are very decent. Definitely go back. Sorry no pictures... Lol read more

I ordered the Vietnamese egg rolls and a large P6 (beef ball and rare steak pho). Let's start with the egg rolls, it was very good, my only critique/personal preference would be have to have been served the traditional egg roll sauce (garlic, chili flakes, vinegar, magic combination) instead of the sweet chili sauce. The pho broth was very good, even before doctoring it up with hoisin sauce, siracha, limes, etc. The noodles weren't clumped up on the bottom and separated easily. There only critique here would be that there wasn't a lot of meat. Place is very good and I will definitely be back, just will be riding double meat next time I get pho. read more

Their food has improved a lot throughout the years. I remembered when they first opened. We didn't quite enjoy the pho because it wasn't as flavorful as the other pho restaurants. Pho Cuong made the right choice, however, by doing business on the side of town where there were less competing Vietnamese restaurants. As a result, they've established a solid group of patrons. I've been visiting Pho Cuong more this year since it's super close to the gym I go to. The food has been consistent, especially their pho. If you're a true pho connoisseur, you would know better than to put a ton of sauces into the broth. The broth is delicious on its own so you can just put Sriracha and hoisin on the side for your meats. I wanted a little fire so I added some Sriracha and ended up shedding a few drops of tear. I honestly think almost all Vietnamese restaurants have the same basic items: banh mi, pho, rice rice, egg rolls, etc. Some offer more on the menu, some offer less. Some restaurants specialize in hu tieu, some specialize in banh xeo, and others simply have better pho. I've tried other items on Pho Cuong's menu in the past and I'd have to say those were mediocre at best. Their pho, however, is phenomenal. Service is decent as well. It's a family owned restaurant so you'll see a kid or two near the back. Everyone there is polite and attentive. My cup of water never goes empty. The food comes out fast and never sloppy. The place itself is clean and there's tons of space. Check them out if you haven't already. read more

I am from California and visiting a friend in witchita. Did not expect much flavor when we decided to get pho. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Granted the quality and taste is not the best but given the location, access to authentic spices/herbs, and the customer base the food is not bad. I ordered the spring rolls, egg rolls, special pho ( with different meats, meat balls , tendon), and Vietnamese ice coffee to try a variety so I can compare. Egg rolls and spring rolls were decent, pho had good flavor and the ice coffee was the most authentic tasting. Service was also good. read more

I've been here a few times in the days of Urbanspoon and I am overdue to go back for a follow up. The first time I went myself and had their middle sized bowl of beef pho. I loved it. Then later, I talked my family into going with me. This time, tho, I noticed other types of beef listed as other options to have with our pho. I chose another one, not entirely sure what part of beef it was from. There was a bit of communication problem, with me being deaf and owner is not "native English speaker" (which is okay as I'm not "native Vietnamese speaker.). And to top it off, I wasn't feeling well. So next result was, that pho was really nasty. Well, time flew on and the place managed to stay in business in spite of my second visit going down in flames (actually, I was sick all night that night!). So here this past winter 2015-2016 not sure when exactly, I went back by myself and had a wonderful bowl of beef pho - the nice beef. They were busy with lunch customers and take out orders, which is always encouraging. At some point, I will go back and maybe venture into another area of the menu. (But I really really like SpringRo just up the street a few blocks west and north...). Stand by for updates! read more

Slow day, full staff working, good food but I noticed there is only cashier lady seem a bit rude. It has been second times picking up Togo at this place. She hasn't spoken a single word to you. Expect customer to look at the cashier machine and pay, not even " thank you" or smile. FYI, she does know how to smile and talk because seeing her laugh and talking to other employees. Really good broth with the Pho. I've had pho at many locations around the country and this place's broth/fixings is definitely on point!

I don't know what draws so many Asian eateries to the four corners of 37th and Woodlawn. They don't really share much in common with one another, aside from them all not being very good. I mean, there's nothing wrong with cheap Chinese (Great Wall) or REALLY cheap Chinese (China Go) or ??? (Tsunami), but it's not something anyone brags about. They're not destination restaurants; they're ones of convenience. At least those three have been able to find their audience - there's a fourth typically-Asian establishment that has struggled to find its place, beginning as a cheap hibachi, followed by a short lived jack-of-all-trades, and most recently occupied by Pho Cuong, which is notable if only because it's completely in line with many of the other pho restaurants in town, if only in a completely different neighborhood. As someone who has pho'd his way around this city, I'll admit the difference in broths from one place to the next is small, and while none seem to ever come close to achieving the deep, complex, and unctuous stock that defines the traditional pho broth of which I've read about in books, the better ones at least have a little bit of fat, a little bit of aromatics, and enough fixin's on the table (fixin's, of course, being the traditional Vietnam phrasing) for me to make my soup to my standards. Which is to say, Pho Cuong's broth is up there with the better restaurants in the city, if only because it didn't do anything weird with it. This ordinariness carried into both the meats of my dac biet - rare brisket, thick slices of large meatballs, tripe, and tendon - as well as the standard plate of accouterments... almost. Among the cilantro, thai basil, peppers, and bean sprouts was something I had not come across in town here - a long serrated leaf, apparently commonly found on pho plates, and and in no way related to corriander - eryngium foetidum, also known as culantro. It's firm texture and stronger, soapier (I thought it was more akin to anise on first taste) flavor is used in addition to its cilantro brother from another mother. Use it or don't, but it's the first time I've noticed it around here - not bad for a pho restaurant on 37th. Ultimately, it's the location of Pho Cuong that best defines it - a pretty good Vietnamese restaurant in a city that is not bereft of them in a neighborhood that is otherwise lacking good local restaurants. Personally, I'm just happy I no longer have to drive twenty minutes for decent pho. read more

I have passed by this place for a while now and am a fan of pho, so I decided I would try it. I enjoyed the broth, it was buttery and flavorful, and lets face it, when it comes to pho that's where it's at. The meat was ok. I ordered it and it was prepared fairly quickly. The service was friendly enough, but something about the atmosphere didn't quite sit with me right. I've eaten pho in NYC and here, and even though I prefer the broth of this place to Pho Hot, I still like the ambiance that comes with Pho Hot over this place. read more

I am a big fan of pho. I've tried it a few different places, the flavor of this place ranks up with the best of them. The decor is not much but I don't usually care about that. The thing that bothered me is that there were chunks of translucent mystery meat in the broth that I probably ate quite a few of before I started realizing it and it really grossed me out. I'm not sure if translucent fat from some unnamed source is a delight with the Vietnamese, but my American pallet wants to see that stuff strained out. Please. If it wasn't for all of the pieces of that fat that I picked out at the end, I would've been rating this at four or five stars for the flavor. Update: I gave this place another try yesterday. I see that they misunderstood my order last time and gave me the pho with beef tendons. I thought it was fat and grossed me out (now I'm really grossed out). I added a star because without the tendons, it is superb and not gross. This place is really good but hardly anyone goes there it seems. read more

Solid & authentic Vietnamese offerings in a part of town that desperately needs it. The pho broth is yummy, it does feel a little oilier than I like. This doesn't keep me away, just nitpicking. The food is very solid. This place is perfect if you're looking for pho but have a girlfriend/boyfriend/pal that is scared of pho. They've got banh mi and fried rice.
