The moment we were going to order, the waiter told us right away any type of stir fry food is not available... which is like more than half of the menu so we were limited on options. The steamed egg that came with the rice plate was super mushy and not good. Other friend got duck noodle soup and said it was decent and nothing to rave about. Prices were high for what it is. Pho Ong 8 is mine & Hub's go-to spot when we crave Pho. If I'm not craving Pho on a particular day but since want the comfort of noodle soup, I'll switch it up and order the Mi Hoang Thanh or Duck Noodle Soup. When I don't want soup at all, I get the Bun Thit Nuong (vermicelli noodles & grilled pork) or Com Suon (rice & pork chop). Today was my second visit. I really like the pho here, the broth is very fragrant. Everything is obviously fresh and well made. I've ordered the vegetable pho both times and I love the amount of fresh vegetables that arrive in the bowl. I also love that they bring out quite a bit of basil, lime, and other trimmings for the soup. Crab Rangoon was also very good, and obviously fresh. Service is very quick once you order but after you receive your food they don't really check on you much. This isn't a bad thing to me, just know you'll need to get someone's attention if you need something. This is easy to do as the servers seem always nearby. I think they have the same tables and booths as the restaurant before them, which are showing their age, but the floor and other surfaces have been redone and look very clean and refreshed. We arrived at approximately 12:15 PM, greeted at the door and seated promptly the hostess. The restaurant was clean with many of the same styling of the Jimmy's Diner which previously occupied this space. COVID-19 protocols were visible with social distancing and barriers between each booth. Windows were open allowing much of the natural light through and the restaurant was clean even given the amount of snow on this particular afternoon. Food 4.5/5 We started with an order the eggrolls and an order of the spring rolls. The eggrolls were served piping hot with a side of nớc chấm (fish sauce). The filling itself was classically filled with ground pork, sliced carrots and mung bean thread. Moving on to the spring rolls, they were filled with shrimp, roast pork, vermicelli noodles, lettuce and served with a side of peanut sauce. It was filling, fresh and made for a perfectly light appetizer before the main course arrived. On this particular visit, I ordered the spicy beef soup. When it arrived it certainly was advertised with a variety of beef preparations (sliced, on the bone, etc.) as well as that characteristic spicy oil floating on the surface. The typical garnishments such as bean sprouts and fresh herbs were present as well. It was fragrant, hot and not overly salty. My only complaint would be the overall spice level was lacking. I added a bit more of the spicy oil that was present on the table to bring it up to my liking. The noodles themselves were at a perfect texture and I had no complaints with the beef inside. Overall I enjoyed this bowl of soup to the very last drop. The other dish I would recommend is the duck noodle soup. This is the dish that Phở Ong 8 is known for and features a generous portion of roast duck in a classic noodle soup. When in doubt, get this dish! Service and Overall thoughts 5/5 Service was prompt and my water was regularly filled during our lunch. Food arrived in a very quick manner (less than eight minutes after ordering) and was served at a proper temperature. Couldn't tell where the restaurant was and it is one of those hole in the wall places. It doesn't look much from outside but inside of the place it is clean and friendly staff. My mom and I order two bowls of Pho. If we had known, we could have just order one and shared it. It was tasty and dac biet pho had everything that I like in it from tendon, tripe, meatballs, slices of beef, and the flavor of the broth was tasty. This place has the best Vietnamese food in town! Love everything we ordered here today. The server brought us waters right away. We started with the crab Rangoon app and the dumplings app, each with their corresponding sauce. Delish! Then we ordered our entrees- my husband ordered beef pho that cooks in the broth at the table, and my son ordered the same pho with a regular order of pork fried rice, and I ordered the vermicelli noodles with egg roll- which is like a delicious cold salad with warm egg roll on the side of the bowl. The food is very FRESH and HOT! Temperature wise- take your time, which is difficult because the food is so tasty! Heat wise- I added some sprinkles of chili oil to my dish and it was the perfect heat to my vermicelli bowl. My husband is in love with siracha sauce and added it to his pho- which made it even more delectable! (I tasted the broth and it was AMAZING!) My favorite pho joint in Wichita! Whenever I'm craving Vietnamese food, I always come here. Not only do they serve the best pho in town, they also serve the best fresh spring rolls in the city! It's a bold statement, but I stand by it. Their peanut sauce is formulated perfectly - nice peanut to hoisin ratio - very well balanced IMO. They have the best pho restaurant broth I've ever had. I'm not saying the pho was bad cause it wasn't. The broth was very tasty, but did seem to have a lot of oil floating at the top. And it could have probably used a little more noodles and meat.
