This is the original Pho Dai Loi. Pho Dai Loi #2 on Buford Highway has become very popular and many regard it as having the best pho in Atlanta. Its success spawned Pho Dai Loi #3 on Pleasant Hill Rd. in Duluth. However, many people don't realize Pho Dai Loi had humble beginnings in South ATL. Forest Park to be exact. There's not a whole lot down here. I made a special trip just to eat here. This is also where the Scott Antique Market is (same exit off 285). Pho Dai Loi is located along a barren, downtrodden stretch of highway. It's in its own standalone building with clear signage. The restaurant looks a little old and dingy from the outside. Inside, it's clean and the food and service are great. The floor space is comparable to Pho Dai Loi #2, so there's plenty of seating. All tables, no booths. I think the menu is also the same, which is nice considering the part of town you're in. Along with pho, they have Vietnamese appetizers (e.g. spring rolls), com (rice) dishes, specialty entrees (e.g. bun bo hue), and authentic dessert drinks. The pho is currently priced as follows: Small - $5.50 Medium - $6.50 Large - $7.00 These prices are mostly comparable to what you'd find on Buford Highway. I went with my customary large bowl of pho dac biet (special combination pho with everything) that includes eye round steak, well-done flank, marble brisket, soft tendon, and bible tripe (bible meaning third compartment of a cow's stomach). Delicious. Forest Park is lucky because the same great pho they are serving on Buford Highway is available on Jonesboro Rd. Fragrant broth, soft noodles, and a good proportion of meat. The sides (basil, culantro, bean sprouts, lime, jalapeno) were fresh. I also tried some of Pho Dai Loi's cha gio. These are fried pork rolls with mushrooms and other diced vegetables. It's served with Vietnamese fish sauce and is very tasty. Mouthwatering even. For a weeknight, the restaurant had a steady stream of customers. Diverse clientele: families, couples, teens, singles, and several takeout orders, some for just drinks. As mentioned previously, service is great. The food came out lightning quick. I can hardly find any negatives about this place. It's pretty close to five stars when it comes to pho and other authentic Vietnamese food. read more

Okay, with all these great reviews, many from Yelp buddies I decided to finally check Pho Dai Loi and see what the big rave is. At first I did not know what to expect, as I was walking through their doors and after a few minutes I was greeted, apparently someone did not see me sit down right away. The lady who greeted me was very friendly and passed me a menu, within two minutes my waitress approached the table and suggested Com Tam Bi Cha Suon Nuong Trung Ga. This is served with shredded roast pork, grilled pork chop and a steamed omelet with sunny side-up eggs, all on top of a mountain of broken jasmine rice. I also had one of their boba teas, as almost everyone makes them differently, I had to try one and it turned out to be really good. Of course, till this day, I have yet to find one better than what I found in Asia. The service was excellent. Within 2 minutes, my Gi cun (Spring Rolls) came to the table and before I finished my spring rolls, my entrée was delivered, all of the food came out very fast. I usually always eat up the street at VN Pho and although they have a better interior than this place, I do admit, the food is blander. Pho Dai Loi has more flavor in their dishes. This was such a nice little spot to visit while in Georgia! I'm a Texas girl living in Cali but when i come to visit my GA friends they always take me to their favorite pho spots because they know I'm obsessed. Thai was a nice little spot next to a liquor store (very convenient for the girl on vacation.. me lol). Stopped by Pho Dai Loi on our way home from the airport. We enjoyed our late afternoon lunch. They really only have one Pho broth but it is a delicious rich beef broth. They have all the normal accoutrements - thai basil, sliced jalapenos, bean sprouts, and coriander. It was surprising to see that for the Pho we received Vietnamese coriander which has long broad leaves and a milder flavor but complemented the broth really well. read more

My spouse and I took his parents to this Vietnamese restaurant recently for some tasty pho. We actually discovered that they also have great fresh rolls, many pho options (including pig's feet(, bubble tea and other Vietnamese dishes. We ordered fresh (not fried) spring rolls, three different types of pho (medium bowls were plenty) and bubble tea (with either tapioca or jelly bubbles). Lots of flavors of bubble tea to choose from--we got mango, durian and a light coconut (with less sugar). We paid $90 for a party of four which included a generous tip and felt that this was a relatively good deal for the amount, quality and variety of food that we received. If you are in the south Atlanta area for business or pleasure, give this place a try. We certainly will be back. read more

If I were just rating the food, it would be five stars without hesitation. The broth for their pho is superb, and all of their rice dishes have been great. The spring rolls are fresh, and they have just the right amount of peanuts in the spring roll sauce. I'm not too crazy about their bubble tea, but I do enjoy their Vietnamese coffee. Today, I ordered the #5 pho combination, which has eye round steak, well done flank, brisket, tendon, and tripe. I ordered the small bowl for $8.99, and you get a decent amount of noodles, but definitely a lot of meat. If you are not feeling as adventurous, they have options for just chicken or shrimp. On their menu, you can also order different Vietnamese rise based dishes, Vietnamese sandwiches, and other types of noodles. The parking lot and interior could use some updating, especially the bathrooms. The service is very efficient, but not exactly the friendliest. I seem to often come on their busy hours, but they seat you fairly quickly, take your order, and food comes out really quick. If you want something else besides a seat, drink, and food, you may have to ask. Overall, I am pretty excited about the quality of Pho Dai Loi and not having to always drive to Buford Highway. read more

So this review is based off of my SECOND time eating from here. The first time I had the steak and noodle dish it tasted pretty good so I went the next day and impulsively decided to try a different dish... what a mistake I made. I forgot the name of this dish but as you can see it's shrimp and noodles with veggies. The shrimp poop sack was not cleaned out meaning they didn't wash the shrimp before cooking. EVERY chef knows that you are to CLEAN THE SHRIMP POOP SACK BEFORE COOKING IT! That's a huge red flag for me when I order from a restaurant and they don't clean the shrimp. And the shrimp didn't look fresh I did not eat it so I can't say what it tastes like but from the visual it wasn't fresh. I lost my appetite immediately after examining my shrimp. If you're looking for authentic Vietnamese food and you're in South Atlanta, it's either going to be Pho Dai Loi or VN Pho (both of which are amazing). The service is very typical Vietnamese restaurant. You are either going to feel very helped or very neglected; no issues though! I had the bun bo hue and oh my word, it's amazing! I love their food. I gave a 1 star because of the professionalism of the manager and the staff. I had witnessed several occasions that the manager yelled her employee in front of the guests. I felt really bad for the female staff. It's very unprofessional. If an employee makes a mistake pull her or him aside and talk not screaming in front of others. Raw shrimps ALERT!! Big no no. The server looked at us like we were crazy, 4 of them were raw, one of my friends already ate it completely without knowing, luckily one of us stopped and noticed the raw shrimp. We told them about it so they brought out 1 order but we ordered 2 (4 fried shrimp rolls total, 2 per order). No apologies from the servers. That's not the only reason why it's one star. The pho tai bo vien: the broth was not clear, didn't taste like a bone marrow rich broth, more like a water downed broth with extra seasonings. The meatball has a weird texture, like ones that you leave in the freezer for too long, the thinly sliced beef is not tender and have a hard texture even though it is "rare". My friends ordered 2 com bo luc lac (shaking beef with rice) only one came out, after waiting for more than 15 minutes, we asked and it turned out they forgot the order. But they did get it out quickly after the initial mistake of forgetting an order. I got a taste of the shaking beef, this is not your usual shaking beef flavors, it has a weird ketchup taste with 5 spices (ngu vi huong). Again, the beef has a hard texture, so I guess they use a sub par quality of beef at this place. They charged me for the raw shrimp rolls, so I told the cashiers, the shrimp rolls were raw; she just look at me and say oh I am so sorry. I was still charged for uncooked shrimps. I think 1 star is pretty generous for the experience plus the food I've today. Would never recommend anyone here. Stay away at all cost. read more

Their kids menu tried, but it just doesn't serve the purpose as much as it tries. The staff is very nice. I've been eating their food for over 10 years now. I love it here. I ordered the vermicelli with pork and egg rolls. One of my favorite place to eat vermicelli itp/otp. The pork was tender which enhanced the flavors. The noodles to veggies portion was even and just right. Most places either have too much noodles or too much veggies, but dai loi hit the 1:1 ratio just right. The egg rolls was good as well. I also ate a bit of the bun bo hue. I remember a time I boycotted this place because the server was extremely rude to me by scolding me about something I said to my now ex. You work in a pho place, ya'll are notorious for barely speaking to the customers. Stay in your lane when you have no idea what we're talking about. Ugh, but of course I came back cause the food is just too good to keep passing up because one bad apple. Pho used to be my weekly Sunday brunch jam. I've been coming here for years and they are hands down the best Vietnamese pho south of Atlanta. I know pho is a generally known as a Viet food, but I say "Vietnamese" pho because other Southeast Asian countries have their own variations. You need to know what you're getting into when you go to authentic pho restaurants. The service will definitely suck in a full service restaurant perspective. But I've come to realllllly appreciate that when I'm really hung over or just plain out hungry...which if I'm eating pho, I'm one or both. You get some sort of acknowledgement when you first walk in (probably without a smile). You get sat almost right away. Someone immediately brings waters with lime to the table. The most you'll talk to someone is when one of the people who will be serving you is taking your order or when you may need to ask for a water refill. Then just a couple minutes after you order, your food is out. Boom. That's all I need. Always super quick, no frills, get to the point action. The pho broth here is probably one of the best in the Atlanta area. The fried shrimp roll appetizer are the only one of it's kind I've been able to find in a restaurant. It's wrapped in a triangle instead of a roll so its super meaty. I have to have it EVERYTIME I go. Their fresh spring rolls are solid. Vietnamese coffee- soild. I tend to go for the pho, but they have the usual Vietnamese fare (Bun noodle dishes, beef stew, rice dishes, etc.). They have a banh mi as well but not all of the time. Just ask. The choices on that is really limited. Just chicken and pork, but solid banh mi none the less. It's really hard to really mess up a banh mi unless you don't use fresh bread. Everything is just consistently solid, but the star here is really the pho. Just go in expecting to be fed fast and leave full without breaking the bank. read more
