I wanted to enjoy the ramen truly but the noodles felt as if they were reheated constantly and the pork as if it was sitting in a pot for the past 6 hours until it was finally able to be served. In other words it didn't taste fresh. I am used to giving ratings from 1-10 I wanted to give this a honest 6 it's not bad it's not anything better than I've tried it's just somewhat affordable and ok enough. Also there were a decent amount of flies inside constantly landing on food even for other people as I was observing. So truly it's a 4 now because I've never seen my toilet appear the way it did after I ate that ramen. Never again, I'm scared my bowels even moved whatever it did. Didn't look healthy at all! Kawa 18 ramen was a cute stop on my recent trip to the area! My friends and I knew we wanted to get ramen, and found this place online. We were super ecstatic about it! I split the chicken karaage with a friend, and we were delighted at how generous the portion size was. It was well-seasoned, tender, and delicious as well. I also got a thai iced tea (yum!) and the Shoyu Udon. I was really craving udon and this was a great option with plenty of food. The noodles were perfect, and the soft boiled egg, chicken, corn, and other toppings were all great. It was 12pm on Sunday, Jan 4. I was looking forward to having a bowl of ramen. I showed up and noticed that the lights inside the establishment were off. I tried the door. It was locked and no one was inside. I look at Kawa 18's business hours notice pasted next to the front door. It said "Sun 11:00am to 9:30pm". Therefore, they should be already opened for business for an hour. What a pity. I checked Kawa 18's website. There were no announcements that it would be closed on Sunday, Jan 4. That meant Kawa 18 lied about their business hours, or maybe they were lazy. I do not recommend this place. read more

Quiet, ample parking. Service was pretty quick. I ordered a takeout red tonkotsu ramen. I had been to this restaurant before a couple years back and did dine in, and it was great. This experience didn't add up. When I got home, the bowl had one strip of pork and majority of the topping was shredded green onion. It tasted great but I'm not sure it was worth the $13. Shoyu ramen "broth" was hot water w/soy sauce. Over an hour before closing and seeming being last new patron to order they seemed to have run out of food... no rice available, tripple warmed up fried gyoza and chicken. And yes, hot water w/ soy sauce. The people there should hae just told me they don't want or cannot properly serve that night. 'Cause I cannot imagine this is the usual food they serve... the young woman at the cashier seemed puzzled and embarrassed when I returned everything only taken a single bite. We took our order of curry, tonkatusu ramen, and karage to go. After 1-2 hours of traveling, our food was still warm and was exactly what we needed after a long travel day. This little hole in the wall has some tasty dumplings and quick service. Order at the counter and within 10 minutes you have a steaming hot bowl of ramen, Japanese curry, dumplings, and spring rolls at the table. The curry has a little bite from the masala guram spice, and the crispy chicken under all that yummy curry gravy can be sopped up with some rice. They could have given a little more rice for the dish. The tonkontsu ramen has great flavor for the broth, but the noodles are the star here. They just needed to add a little more of them to the dish! The fatty pork chiashu was very fatty but still grilled up nicely. The gyoza dumplings were simple and a great appetizer portion. First of all, the restaurant has simple, but trendy decor that makes it Feel more upscale for the area. Service was extremely friendly and the order came quickly...plus, PIPING HOT!! Prices were comparable to other ramen shops I have been to in Atlanta. I had the Miso red with Chicken ramen and Vegetable spring rolls. The highlights of the ramen we're definitely the spice level and the crunchy corn. Paired with the delicious springy noodles. Overall, it was the perfect lunch and might I say this is probably the "BEST" ramen I've had in awhile. Will definitely return when I'm in the area. read more

I was so excited when I found out that there's a ramen place closer to me. So of course I rushed right over! I think this place may be family owned also. The girl at the register was so nice and so were the two I saw. It's just a very warm and welcoming environment. I wish I had more time to sit inside because I loved the ambiance. The broth was delicious. The noodles were perfect. The egg was, which is one of my favorite parts about ramen, was cooked to perfection and well seasoned. The only thing I was disappointed about was the pork. I paid for extra pork but it was definitely a regular portion, also the pork was a bit tough. Other than that, I'd definitely try this place out again. It was pretty good. Also, This was my first time having cabbage in ramen and it was actually pretty good. I ordered take out from this restaurant and I was extremely impressed not only by the quality of the food, but how fast I received my food after ordering. It was pretty incredible. I ordered the ramen and the Japanese curry. Both were delicious, but I liked the Japanese curry more. To drink, I ordered the sweet tea. Definitely a lovely ramen place to go. There was hardly any broth in the ramen and though the meat was kind of tough, it tasted okay, but the ramen was a solid mass of noodles with no flavor. The service was aloof. I don't feel that there are any Ramen establishments south of I-20 but I was craving so I decided to search Google again and this one came up with good reviews. Its in a non-descript strip mall. There's seating for groups of 2-4. There was a TV playing music videos. The place was clean and the staff was very pleasant. I shared it was my first time and she was patient with my order. Its a simple restaurant with good options. I was glad to see the kale noodles. My food came quickly and was good. I took my leftover broth home and ordered extra noodles to go. We were in the mood for noodles. This place was open, the Yelp reviews were decent and the pictures were nice. The place was deserted when we arrived. Not one customer, no one even coming by to pick up a to go order. That was red flag # 1. We ordered vegetarian spring rolls, vegetarian noodles and chicken noodles. We received our food, immediately we noticed that the boiled eggs that were cut in half looked really dark (purple to be exact) but chalked it up to the dish being that way, red flag #2. The corn in our dishes was clearly from a can, not necessarily a sin but demonstrates a lack of authenticity, I'd call this flag #3. The taste was a little salty but palatable nonetheless. The spring rolls are the ones that Costco sells. Flag#4 the chicken that they used in their noodles was fried chicken and it tasted "off" again we attributed to "eating something new." The noodles tasted a little salty. To me it seems like this establishment has a clear preference for shortcuts: pre-prepared food, canned food, suspicious looking eggs (where they left over from days before?). I wouldn't be surprised if they're taking safety related shortcuts in the kitchen. Fast forward a few hours and the first of our group starts complaining of stomach pains. Now the rest of our group has developed moderate to severe food poisoning symptoms. We've lost sleep and spent money trying to feel better and rehydrate ourselves to get our health back. This establishment is the only one that we visited prior to coming down with these symptoms. After this terrible experience we regret ever stepping foot in this place. The Yelp ratings were misleading for sure. If you're in the mood for some noodles there's some great noodle places in H Mart in Riverdale. I'd recommend them over this place which has horrible quality. Again, we had a TERRIBLE experience!! For your reference I have included screen shots of their food safety reports and comments. The southside has always been plagued with slim pickings in terms of restaurants that aren't chains like McDonalds, Zaxby's, Wendy's, etc. It was only a couple of years ago that we got boba and even more recent -- a Korean BBQ spot. Now we've got ramen. This place is a small little spot tucked in a strip that sits besides Pho Dai Loi #1 on Jonesboro Rd. There are a decent amount of tables -- both regular and high tops as well as a counter attached to the wall for extra seating. The décor is simple with lots of wood. The light fixtures are very nice as well! The customer service was nice (employees very kind and sweet), the menu is simple with your choice of either tonkotsu or miso ramen each having three different spice levels (both having the choice of either pork or chicken). They have ramune (japanese soda), bottled tea, soda, and milk tea. I ordered the gyoza (a good snack, but I would skip this and maybe try the shrimp tempura next time) and the chicken karaage. The karaage I actually recommend because the portion size is really decent for an appetizer, has nice spices that you can taste throughout, and the chicken is juicy and crispy. I ordered the Pork Tonkotsu Red and my friend got the Miso Red. The ramen broth was flavorful, not too thick. The noodles were definitely nice, the eggs were boiled perfectly. The chashu for my pork tonkotsu was essentially just a very thin turkey bacon like slice of pork belly, so it was definitely a little disappointing when compared to the thicker chashu cuts you get from more popular ramen spots in the Atlanta area. I also ordered a garlic oil that I thought would be a good addition but it really just tasted of plain oil with maybe an afterthought of garlic. We also got the Chicken Curry Rice just to give it a try, and the flavor of curry is very strong which pairs well with the plain white rice. Not sure if I'm right, but I'm pretty sure the chicken they use is just the karaage from the appetizer menu. My only suggestions would be to maybe have thicker chashu even if it's just slightly so. Also, I love spicy food, and when I tried my friend's broth (exponentially spicier than mine) and inquired about it, I was told that the Miso Red is actually the spiciest one. So, maybe have some sort of spice level indicator alongside each so patrons looking for something extra spicy will know which to get instead of simply having "Red Hot Chili Oil". All in all, it's a really good spot to get your ramen fill here on the southside without breaking the bank or having to deal with I-75/85 traffic. Give it a try, support this spot so we can keep others like it, and here's to the southside getting some good food! read more

Decided to try some authentic ramen and found this gem 7-min from our house. The parking is in a plaza so it wasn't bad at all. When went on a Friday afternoon and no one was there. The ambiance of the place is beautiful. It's neat and clean with some music videos on the tv. The customer service was good, the waitress was nice. Our food came out in less than 15-min and was steaming hot. The broth was delicious, that best we'd ever had. The mango boba tea is definitely a top tier pick. My boyfriend and I were in the mood for ramen so we stumbled across Kawa 18 Ramen. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice and I love that the offers boba tea but unfortunately the machine was down when we went. I'm allergic to all seafood and seaweed so I was a little nervous because previous ramen places I've visited made all of there dishes with seafood in them. We both ordered ramen and in the spirit of trying something new, my boyfriend ordered narutomaki since we had never heard of it before. We asked the lady taking our order if seafood was in anything we ordered because of my allergy and she told us no. When our food was served to us I tasted my ramen and it was okay. It was a little bland. My boyfriend then asked me to taste his and the narutomaki... the moment he placed the narutomaki on my tongue I knew something was wrong... I looked narutomaki up and to my despair we discovered it is FISH CAKE! I immediately had to leave and take allergy medicine to prevent going into anaphylactic shock. We took the food home with us but just ended up throwing it away... I understand that maybe we should have double checked all the food we ordered but the staff should have known what narutomaki was and immediately told me I couldn't have it since I told her about my allergy. I called a large order here at this restaurant during the week for a pick up. They got everything right. They even labeled every single order accurately. I was very impressed. They even made the drinks only when I got there because they didn't want the ice to dilute the drink. Very thoughtful. The ramen was tasty. The egg was done wonderfully. Very impressive. Wow. I found this family owned mom/pop ramen shop. Cam, I believe is the owner was so nice and accommodating. This is one of the best ramen places I've had and it's right here in Jonesboro! A true hidden gem. I would highly recommend their tonkatsu red ramen. It has a little spicy but it definitely adds to the flavor. The broth isn't overbearingly rich which is my favorite thing. It's perfect that you get to taste the all the additional ingredients they put in such as the sprouts, mushrooms, corn, etc. I want to keep coming here so stop by when in the Forest Park area or come out here and support them! read more

I ordered the pork dumplings, shrimp spring rolls, 6 piece wings, and peach boba tea. When I think of ramen I assumed that they would have a larger selection of meats other than just pork or chicken so I was underwhelmed to try theirs. All the appetizers I did try was bland & I really hate to say that because the staff was so nice but my God I am so disappointed. Shrimp spring rolls should have had bigger pieces of shrimp chopped and some small but it was all lumped together in a mushy consistency very bland even with the duck sauce nothing was saving that dish. I've had better spring rolls from the freezer section at the grocery store. The pork dumplings were fried good and was so fresh but again had no seasoning. The local Chinese restaurant has better pork dumplings than that and the sauce was also not good. The fried chicken was supposed to be the star of the show but once again not a lick of seasoning. The wings was fried so perfect it broke my heart to bite into it and taste nothing. The only thing that saved it was the fact that they had hot sauce but some lemon pepper would have been nice. Preferably a better choice of sauces over all would be nice. The star of the show was indeed my peach boba tea. It was absolutely delicious and worth the try. The place had plenty of patrons supporting their business so please don't let me deter you from trying but keep in mind my concerns because I wish I had known. This is the first time I've been disappointed with this cuisine. Doesn't taste authentic and can't taste the love in the details of the food. I was so surprised to find this gem in Forest Park! I usually have to go to Atlanta to eat Japanese Ramen, but I was so happy to find this place. The restaurant is very clean! When I walked in I smelled cleaning products immediately. I prefer smelling the food when I walk into a restaurant, but it was nice to know that I was walking into an establishment that was hygienic. The menu is short and sweet, I liked the fact that I could add my own toppings to help enhance the flavor. The toppings are an extra charge. I really enjoyed my food .
