Pho Hoang is delicious any time of the day. I typically dine-in or take-out for dinner or lunch. It's locations are modernly renovated but the food remains the same... absolutely delicious, ever so appetizing and always presentable. An update since i first visited Pho Hoang. I've tried their Vermicelli - Bún (not bun as in bread!) dishes repeatedly and love them! The charbroiled pork is excellent. If you order the Cm Sn Nn (BBQ pork on rice) I recommend ordering a side dish of veggies, unless all you want is pork and rice! My husband wasn't thinking when he ordered and ended up with no veggies.. he didn't mind because the pork was so yummy, but I know I would be disappointed. Their bubble tea like drinks are very delicious, my four year old couldn't get enough of it! They will forgo the jelly berries if you prefer (my four year old didn't like the texture of the berries but loved the shake/drink part!). The decor in the restaurant is nice and relaxing. Washrooms are very clean, parking is amble but since this area (Arlington & Sargent) has become more and more popular in the last few years, the parking lot is often full. You can park on Home Street or Sargent if you find the lot full. Or better yet, bring your bike or walk if you live close by, and both the #71 and #15 buses stop within a half block of the restaurant. read more

Took my family here several times already. Never been disappointed! Pho is top notch and especially enjoyed the lemongrass chicken (that comes with more rice than I can eat alone - a luxury here in Winnipeg when other restaurants charge extra for rice). This place was an unexpected surprise. I've never been to Winnipeg before, but from my limited exposure, Sargent street is no prize, with boarded up store fronts and seedy looking street corners. I found this gem nestled between a sad looking pizza joint and an old pharmacy. I was shocked when I saw the nice and modern decorated interior. The restaurant was not crowded (on a sunday afternoon). Service was pleasant and efficient. I had the pho (#18) and without question it was some of the best I've ever had (and I've had pho many many places). A great portion for the price, and the soup was delicious. We were looking for a quick and late lunch on a rainy day. Vietnamese sounded like a good option. It was a holiday (Thanksgiving) and we were glad they were open. Thank God for hard working Asians! :) (not that other races aren't hard working). My wife ordered the soup and I got an assortment of meats (beef, chicken, pork and shrimp) with rice vermicelli. The food was pretty good and my wife liked the soup. What makes this place stand out from most Vietnamese restaurants is that they actually cared about the ambiance of the restaurant. The decor was tastefully chosen, walls in a earth tone and tables and place settings were upper scale. The price was still pretty reasonable too! Vietnamese restaurants are often troubling to me, as a pesca/vegetarian (yes I've been in the situation where I had a red bean icy drink for dinner as it was the only thing on the menu that didn't have meat). But not here!! Salad rolls are available in 4 different types of protein (tofu, pork, shrimp, chicken). The sugar cane shrimp, albeit challenging to eat thanks to the super chewy fibrous sugar cane, is perfectly seasoned. The bean/jelly drink was yummy and my dining partner finished his pho quickly. There is free wifi but it didn't work on our smartphones. Service was wonderful and the restaurant was quite busy on a Wednesday at 8pm, which is always a good sign. read more

If you're a pho hopper like me, you'll want to check out this review! I am writing this review exclusively on my pho experiences. I've dined at this restaurant about 3 times in the past year. Each experience has been pretty equal to the other. Service is definitely very friendly, you can tell the employees are happy to be there. The location is easy to find and parking hasn't been to crowded in my experiences. When you enter the restaurant it looks very clean and orderly, something i really appreciate! My most recent visit, we ordered chicken wings and salad wraps with our pho. The wings really were fantastic, not too sticky but defintely moist. The wraps were a very good size and tasted extremely fresh. Now let's get down to the most important dish, the pho! The first thing i do when i receive pho is taste the broth. It should taste of fresh onion and cilantro and have the perfect amount of sodium. I immediately felt that the broth was not very flavourful and that is a deal breaker for me. I feel that you should not have to add any sauces to the broth to get the maximum amount of flavour. There was a generous amount of noodles, which started out in a huge ball stuck together in the bottom of my bowl, but once i loosended them up i was satisfied with the consistancy. Omg the food here is SO GOOD. I've been to quite a few pho places in Winnipeg and this is by far my favourite. The salad rolls are the BEST and if you do the build your own salad rolls option, you're really getting your bang for your buck. I would never hesitate to bring a friend here. I have been to a lot of Vietnamese restaurants in Vancouver, and I have to say this one is as good as and probably even better then anything we have in Vancouver (and there are a lot). The food was great (Pho Tai, BBQ Beef Short Rib, Grilled Chicken Sticky Rice, Shimp and Pork Rolls) and the decor was very nice compared to similar restaurants. I've been a fan of Pho Hoang for a few years, and it's my favourite Vietnamese place in Winnipeg. The broth for the pho is always flavourful, and is never too oily like some other places. And the noodles are neither mushy nor too hard. I've only had one disappointing dish, the deep fried chicken on rice, where the chicken was dry and stringy, but I suspect it was a one-off, as other chicken dishes I've had were fine. Don't let the neighborhood or building it's in fool you. This restaurant diamond is hidden in a rough two-story strip mall -- but inside it's a classy decor perfect for dining. This was our second time visiting a Vietnamese restaurant, so the pictures on the menu really helped. We had the Wrap Your Own Rolls with grilled pork ($12.95). You get a large plate with lots of fresh sprouts, thin vermicelli, lettuce, mint leaves and a peanut sauce. We're not sure if we ate it correctly, but we placed some of everything on the rice paper, wrapped it, and enjoyed. Incredible flavors and textures! We also ordered a Sizzling Iron Platter with Sauteed Chicken with Vegetable ($10.95). This came out quite a bit after the Rolls, but perhaps that's intentional. Again, the flavors were amazing. The portions are generous. The two orders above left the two of us very satisfied (almost too full). Sharing one of the above items would make a nice, light meal. We also ordered a bowl of fried rice ($1.75) but would have had enough to eat without it. We will definitely be back! read more
