I didn't even know I liked Banh mi until I came here. But holy cow--the lemongrass pork banh mi is INCREDIBLE! I have no idea what they did to the pork but it's seasoned and crisped perfectly -- the texture is so satisfying, with a delicious sauce! I've already been back twice (and keep on ordering the same thing). Get the pork bahn mi! We got the chicken one to go because the lemongrass flavor was so tasty but I think the pork is my favorite. I stopped by Pho La Vie when crossing through Harrisburg. I was very excited about supporting a local restaurant with a cute name. I was attracted by the rave reviews but also the number of patrons. I ordered the R7 & it was rice and a few shrimp. I didn't taste any of the Korean pear marinate -- and the accompanying sauce was excessively salty & fishy. For the price, that particular dish was not worth it however I would totally give the restaurant another I am in town next. read more

Ultimately was a bit disappointed with what I got here. Pricing was fine for the amount of food we got. Started with spring rolls, which were good. Nice size, standard ingredients. I got the bo kho and I'm not sure why but really didn't enjoy the flavoring or the thickness of the broth. The noodles also were just fine. Would not order this dish again. We also got the hu tieu ap chao, which was a new experience for me that I enjoyed much more. Wow finally found an amazing Vietnamese place in the area. This restaurant has one of the best banh mi I have had with very fresh and well toasted bread, flavorful marinated lemongrass pork and delicious toppings. I wil definitely be back just for the banh mi. We also tried the bun bo hue which was very good and no too salty but didn't have a lot of good meat in it , was hoping for more of a beef variety like in the pho dishes. We also tried the seafood soup which surprisingly had good flavor and a ton of seafood meat and variety, worth trying at least once but doesn't have the depth flavor that pho or bun bo hue would have. We were very happy with our dishes and the service was great overall, they were quick to bring out the food and very friendly , it looks like a family owned restaurant. They close early on some days so plan ahead. The decorations and the ambiance of the restaurant are good , I enjoyed dinning in. Moving from across the country and seeking a sense of home in the form of authentic Vietnamese comfort food, I am so glad I found Pho La Vie! They quickly became my go-to whenever I was craving Vietnamese food. My staples are the nem nuong spring rolls with peanut sauce and the Bun Bo Hue *chef's kiss* Nobody makes it as good as they do, and they don't skimp on the meat either. The service is always fast and courteous whether you're dining in or ordering to go. The ambiance is relaxed, they usually have some food network playing as well as sports on the big screen. There is also plenty of off-street parking in the lot, so it's very conveinient. Sadly I no longer live in the area, but will definitely be back whenever I am nearby! read more

This is my closest Vietnamese Resturant to me . I went and tried some of the classic dishes such as rice and pho house special . Parking was easy . Service was fast and helpful as well . The food i would give it a 4/5 as it did give me the flavor but feel like missing something . Pricing was also a bit high for standard Vietnamese restaurants in the area considering their portions. Disappointed ordered the V3 pork with egg rolls. We used to get 2 thinner pork chops and 2 egg rolls . It's now down to one egg roll , small sliced pork pieces. This is an easy 5 for me. It's got a cool calligraphic font on the signage, with my favorite color (orange) to boot. Totally hip! The interior is brand new, like less than 2 months old. The manager and staff were friendly, attentive, and super helpful. We recognize one of the waiting staff from Kimlee, so we asked him about the relationship between the two restaurants. The two restaurants are owned and operated by two separate owners, but the owners are relatives. I asked if the recipes are the same. The answer by the manager was that they are similar but Pho La Vie is a bit better. Ha ha, good answer! Incidentally, I think Pho La Vie is much better situated in terms of location, off the busy Jonestown Road. Now the food. S3 - grilled chicken Banh Mi ($4.95). It's good, the baguette was nice and toasty; chicken was freshly grilled and slightly sweet. L1 - Bun Bo Hue ($8.95) where I smartly requested to have the vermicelli substituted with pho. Ever since I have my debut with this dish at Kimlee's, I fell in love with it. It's rich in flavors as well as ingredients (extra proteins and cabbage). I don't think I would ever go back to plain pho noodle soup. Now I do feel Kimlee's rendition of this dish has more kicks than Pho La Vie's. But still, I totally enjoyed it. L9 - Crispy egg noodle with seafood and vegetable ($10.95). This was the first time we tried. Not sure if this is a real Vietnamese dish or a fusion; but it's like the Chinese pan fried noodle, one of my favorite Chinese dishes. It's not quite as nice as the pan fried noodle, but still OK. It surely was messy to eat. The plate was too small to mix the crispy noodle with the seafood and sauce. The manager had to give us extra plate so we can successfully mix it up. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this delightful place to dine. It's a bit out of the way for me, but I would definitely find every chance to stop by. read more

My dining party ordered the pho, crispy egg noodles, egg bánh mì, and grilled pork vermicelli. I tried the latter two dishes. Service was quick (within ten minutes after ordering I think). The person who had the phō was impressed with the spicing. More robust and aromatic than many phō broths tried elsewhere. The crispy egg noodles were visually arresting. Those who tried them enjoyed the dish, and everyone agreed that was the photogenic standout. The egg bánh mì was outstanding. The bread was was baked well -- crunchy crust, fluffy interior -- and the egg-yolk was cooked to be just slightly runny (which I think is ideal for sandwiches). I have eaten a lot of bánh mì, across the world (admittedly never in Viet Nam itself, but for what it is worth I have tried nearly every bánh mì shop in the Vietnamese district of Paris), and this was one of the better ones I have had. I am less experienced with Vietnamese vermicelli dishes, but I have tried my fair share over the years and was similarly impressed with this dish as I was with the bánh mì. The pork was seasoned nicely, and the selection of vegetables seemed to complement the dish better than what my past experiences with it have been (I think there was some sort of pickling element which probably helped). Overall, probably my favourite of the dozens of (accessibly priced) Vietnamese restaurants I have tried over the years. Would definitely recommend. read more

I think strip mall restaurants sometimes get a bad rap but this was fantastic. We were both starving and we were not disappointed. This was our first "dine-in" experience since before COVID... happened to be driving through a green zone (other PA folk know what that means). We ordered the grilled quail and the La Vie Special spring rolls for appetizers. The quail was exquisite, the marinade on it was mouthwatering, out of this world. The spring rolls had hard-boiled egg, grilled pork, vermicelli, lettuce, and pork patty. Delicious. We weren't especially fond of the hard-boiled egg, would have been better with out it in my opinion. Peanut sauce with the rolls was remarkable. Peter ordered the P1, your standard beef pho with brisket, tripe, tendon, meatball. The broth was the best we've had and Peter has had quite a lot of pho in his day. Flavors were deep, aromatic, you could smell the cloves. The noodles were cooked perfectly, not in a block on the bottom of the bowl, they maintained their integrity throughout the meal and did not get spongy and soft. The meat portion was generous. I ordered the V3 which was vermicelli with grilled pork and egg rolls. It was covered with crispy onions, pickled vegetables, and parsley. It was accompanied with the traditional orange pink sauce whose name escapes me, it has a funky smell but tastes great. It was delicious and perfectly executed, but I admit I kept reaching for Peter's pho. I had a Thai bubble tea and Peter had a Vietnamese Coffee which was served "done" without the slow dripper, both perfect. read more

Wow I had 5 check ins here and never reviewed. What is wrong with me?? This place has become one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in the area. Today was a chilly day and nothing beats a good bowl of soup. I would normally get the pho but the wonton with egg noodles was calling my name. The broth was so flavorful that I didn't leave a drop left. There was enough wontons and noodles to get me full and lots of chopped bok choy to make it a little healthier. My mom and friend got the Bun Bo Hue. This is usually my go to and watching them slurp up their red spicy broth and noodles made me a little jealous. I will be back very soon to satisfy my craving. I'm a semi-newcomer to Pho as I've only had it two other times. This place, by far, is the best I've had so far. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by a very friendly man who told me I could pick where to sit. I loved his personality and the vibe he gave off. He was very personable and talkative. My server came right over with a glass of ice water and a menu. I decided on what to order and within 5 minutes my appetizer egg rolls were brought out. These were the best I've tasted! They came with this delicious carrot slaw that I couldn't get enough of. After I was done eating my appetizer, they brought out my Pho (I got the steak and brisket) in this HUGE bowl along with some fresh basil (still on the stems!), 1/4 of a lime, fresh sliced jalapeños and bean spouts. The large is only $1 more than the small so I say go for it--if you can't eat it all, they have nice sized to-go containers and the Pho heats up well the next day. The place is very clean. There is a big screen TV on the wall, great to watch when dining solo! I cannot wait to go back and try some other menu items! Took my fiance here as he has never had pho before and I was just getting over a GI bug and well nothing cures illness like a good bowl of Pho. To be honest I have only ever eaten pho at one restaurant in the area, I thought it was good there so I never strayed. But this restaurant is so close to my house I wanted to try it out and am super happy that I did! The restaurant was very clean, staff were polite and friendly. I ordered a pretty basic Pho bowl with thin shaved beef but there are quite a few varieties you can try. The pho came out quickly and was piping hot. The flavor was phenomenal and they provided all of the goodies to go along with it like sprouts, basil and limes. I got a regular size bowl and it was plenty. Absolutely delicious! My husband and I was visiting Hershey's this weekend. After a full day at the amusement park, we were really tired and wanted something lighter than pasta or pizza or burgers for dinner. As we were heading back to our hotel a few miles away from the park, we stopped at this shopping center to see what's there to pick from. Out of several places, we decided on Vietnamese. We really loved it! (I took a star off because spring roll picture has four but only two was served. Bit pricy for two. ) My husband order pho and I did grill chicken with lemon grass. As I needed to eat healthier, I asked to replace rice with another side salad. It was the best grilled chicken dish I've had in a while. The portion was great. Since I can't eat too much for dinner, I saved half for my husband. He finished it after a full bowl of pho. He wasn't a soup kind of person so he would normally eat the contents in the pho and leave a lot of soup behind. That was not the case today. He eat half of my chicken and kept having more soup. Summer vacation is just about over for my boys, but my mom and I decided we'd take them on one last trip (to Hershey Chocolate World) before school starts. After a 7 hour drive and 5 flash flood warnings, we finally made it to our hotel in Harrisburg, and the only thing we wanted after our exhausting trip was pho! Being from CT, we are very unfamiliar w/ the area, so of course I turn to Yelp for help! Pho La Vie just so happened to be close to our hotel (Best Western), and has great ratings, so this is where we decided to go. Now, I hate too be too critical, especially since I'm not from the area, and this is probably what really good pho is for this area.. so I'll touch on what I did like first: 1. The owner and his servers were very welcoming and appropriately attentive. 2. The fried egg rolls were very good, my youngest doesn't usually like egg rolls, but he gobbled these ones all up! 3. Lastly the cost, and portion of each menu item is generous here compared to what we see back home. Ok, now the critical part -- Pho La Vie's pho broth is not as good as what I can get at Vietnamese/Pho restaurants back in CT.
