Just participated in the Yelp Elite event, making bánh xéo with Chef Vu. What fun! I learned a lot from this event and, unfortunately, was too hungry and preoccupied to take a photo of the finished product before it was gone. I did get a photo of my work in progress, though! Chef Vu was a great teacher and made the hour fly by. Mine did not turn out as crispy as his, but they were absolutely delicious, made from the kit the restaurant provided. All the ingredients were fresh and high quality. My husband has never tried bánh xéo so he didn't know it was supposed to be crispy until I told him. We both loved it! We're doing Chef Vu's Yelp cooking event tomorrow so we ordered dinner tonight to pick up when we picked up the Yelp kit. Got beef Pad Thai with 3 spiciness and steamed pork dumplings. The dumplings were tender and delicious. However, the menu item they called Vietnamese Fried Rice was a disappointing bland affair. I have lived in seven different states and have eaten at many different Vietnamese restaurants, so I know how flavorful a good Vietnamese Fried Rice can be and this version definitely suffered from a lack seasoning and proper ingredients (where's the egg and Chinese sausage?). Went on Sunday last week. Four people there, not including us. Got the spring rolls GREAT btw. My mom got the pho soup luckily my mom didn't pass kidney stones (see my ricks review). What a marvelous little restaurant! Cannot believe this place has been so close and I have not ordered from it. Ordered from Yelp website to get some Friday night takeout and only had to wait 30-40 minutes after the order was placed. When I went to pick up the food I could not believe how amazing it looked inside! Very peaceful, awesome decor and most definitely will try and sit down for a meal next time I'm in the mood for some Pad Thai. Food wise I just don't think there is anything more you can ask for. The quantity and quality is unmatched and a single order of Pad Thai turned into two full delicious meals. The spring roll was rather boring, but still good from the liberal use of avocado, and the delicious dipping sauce made up for it. The only stuffing in it was noodles - it could've used more crunch. The pad Thai, however, may be my new favorite in western New York. They have the "sticky kind," not the "wet kind," (if you get aPad Thai a lot you know what I'm talking about!!). Went here with a friend on a Saturday evening. It was not busy when we arrived around six o'clock. We were promptly greeted and seated, it is a relaxed but elegant atmosphere. The menu is extensive and I ordered a coconut bubble tea to start, unfortunately they were out of bubble tea that day. I stuck with water at that point, the water could use filtering as it had a mildly unpleasant aftertaste. Next we each ordered a chicken avocado salad as an appetizer. It is a special on Saturday for five dollars. It was served promptly, the waitress was friendly and attentive. The salad itself was quite large, a real bargain at five dollars. It was equally tasty. For an entree I ordered a short rib vermicelli. It was served while we were only half way through the appetizers. The entree was also quite tasty but a bit difficult to eat with the bones. I used to come here to get my usual noodle dishes such as pho until I peeped at their seafood selections and it has been a game changer. First, I would like to say that this restaurant has great tasting noodle dishes including their pho and bun bo hue. The bun bo hue is sometimes a miss for me because it smells too strongly of pork at times but I know I have a pretty sensitive nose so maybe it's just me. The pho is always on point though. This was my first time ordering dozen clams with their spicy lemongrass butter and it turned out to be a great experience. If you get any of their seafood, I highly recommended getting it with this butter versus just getting it steamed plain. It mixes so well with all the seafoods! (They have other seafood options as well). The next time I came back to this restaurant, I just ordered a side of small noodles ($2-3) with my seafood dish to dip in the sauce so I can have this dish as a meal. You can also get rice or French bread and I believe they have different portion sizes too. They also have various happy hour, weekday, and lunch deals so you can pretty much get a deal most days of the week even if you just happen to stop by randomly. Overall I recommend this restaurant if you're in the mood for some good old pho or if you're feeling adventurous, try the Vietnamese style seafood dishes as well! read more

We checked it out since it's no.1 on the list. They claimed that they are no. 1 pho in NY state for 2021. So we tried the Xxl. I wondered how special can it be. First it took a while for them to get our drinks/order. They forgot to bring all the toppings/sprouts- leaves- sauce. At first I thought that there must be something special without the toppings but again they just forgot. Just same pho like others nothing special. Ordered the mussels. Now those are good w coconut. Wanted to have Pho prior to heading to the airport and back to Texas. Had been in the area for a week on vacation. I have a service dog that serves children at a Children's Advocacy Center and travels with me everywhere. This establishment was the ONLY place to turn us away the week we sent in the area. Very rude interaction and refused to seat us regardless of the NY laws on service animals and my ability to provide any and all paperwork. We have a department of transportation number and fly all airlines without any issues. We politely explained that service dogs are allowed in any establishment and were still refused service. There are half priced specials everyday. Avocado Smoothie - Order it! So creamy and tasty. I get one every time I'm here. Vietnamese Shrimp & Mango Salad - Another must try! The combinations of flavors are delicious. It is very light and refreshing. Fried Pork Dumplings - Meh. It is deep fried, a little too crunchy for my liking. I thought it would be pan fried. This place is worth a visit for the ambiance and service alone. It's small but spacious inside with salt water fish tanks in the wall. I was seated right next to a tank with a blue tang (just keep swimming!) and puffer fish, as well as sea anemones. Service was great. I mostly wanted to come because I saw honey cheesecake and purple rice with sweet cream on the dessert menu, and since I had a sweet tooth today and no shame, that's what I ordered (in my defense purple rice is a good source of potassium.) The honey cheesecake is not what I expected. It was good, but it was a sponge cake. The purple rice and sweet cream is perfect for sharing. I ate half. Prices are reasonable. Pho Lantern is one my favorite spots in Buffalo! This place is low-key, the portions are huge, and the food is delicious. I tend to get the veggie pad Thai--which is the best I've had in Buffalo to date--and is big enough that I can eat it for three meals! They also do a great job of actually adding spice if you're into that. They have daily deals on appetizers and other dishes. The veggie egg rolls are my go-to, but the dumplings and mussels are also quite good. The bubble tea is very affordable, so it's a fun addition to any meal. The staff is always so welcoming and kind. Pho lantern is basically the only thing I use Grubhub for. I will spend sixty bucks here just on stuff for me and then justify it by telling myself I'm getting groceries for the week. Sixty bucks will basically get you one of everything on the menu by the way. I'm kind of a chicken wing snob and I can't believe I'm saving this about a Vietnamese take out place, but they have some amazing ones. Unless you are one of those people that eat chicken wings dripping in Frank's red hot. Their wonton soup and lo meins are my usual go tos and I've never been disappointed. I will get a few quarts of the soup and then one of each lo meln (beef, chicken. Seafood, lobster, crab...I skip the pork because my pet pig looks at me weird if I get it). They have the usual general tso, orange, and kung pao chicken, beef and peppers, pepper steak, etc. everything is great and comparable with to any good take out. Where they really shine though is their pho. Hence the name I guess. The broth is complex and delicate, the ingredients are always fresh (packaged separately to add in right before you eat, and I don't think there is anything I enjoy eating more on a rainy day. You will find a ton of things on their menu that you haven't tried before and my advice is to get some stuff you know you like and then get something new. Even if you aren't an adventurous eater this is the perfect place to expand your horizons a little bit. read more

Crazy friendly staff, fun ambience with fish tanks, and (most importantly) the food is just next LEVEL! If you have a picky eater looking to expand, take them here! We went on a Sundays where 10 dumplings cost FOUR DOLLARS?!?! Amazing. We ordered veggie fried dumplings and they were hot and delicious. The veggie mix is fresh and varied, and heavy on greens. We also ordered the pho-rito which I actually LOVED! They bring beef broth to dip and some additional sauces, and the noodles in the wrap, while odd in concept, was delightful in execution. We wrapped it up with some tofu pad thai, which was heavy on toppings and peanuts. The staff was attentive and the food came out quick, I honestly considered ordering takeout before heading back to Rochester after an event, but thought that might be overkill. Okay, ever since Niagara Seafood rebranded to Pho Lantern, I've found myself coming back here and ordering delivery every now and then. I'm definitely a fan of their pho, tea leaf salad and avocado salad. I could eat that everyday. It's been neat to watch their transformation from a Vietnamese grocer with food options to a full-fledged restaurant. On a day when my wife and I can't seem to get out of the house, Pho Lantern is my preferred restaurant to get delivery from. My order usually ends up being the avocado salad (sometimes with the crispy fish add on), and a few orders of Pho. They are usually packaged pretty well and I'm a fan of the broth. We ordered delivery from this place via Ubereats last week and it was horrible. They forgot the shrimp pho, and in the interest of time (cause we were with friends and didn't want the friend to be without food while everyone else chowed down) I placed another shrimp pho order right away and then called the restaurant to make sure things are in order. The lady who picked up the phone was adamant that she packed it so it cannot possibly be missing. Then she handed the phone over to who I assumed to be the owner. He was also adamant that they didn't forget anything because he talked to the cook who said she definitely cooked it. He started to become rude and accusatory, saying "there are 3 people here who can confirm that the shrimp pho was cooked and packed so it can't be missing from your order!" So I said "so it magically disappeared into thin air? Or are you saying that the delivery driver stole it?" And his response was "yeah, maybe." It made no sense because the broth was there, and just the box of shrimp and pho was missing. So the driver just took half of a dish??? It also sounded like he was hinting that maybe I'm lying cause he said he's had other people call who were also missing items from their orders. Ummm I just paid $130 for all this food and he thought I was going to waste my breath to call and argue with some rude restaurant owner just to lie about a $15 dish being missing? We were so annoyed that I told him to cancel the additional shrimp pho order I just placed, and he said OK that's fine, but of course he never did!!! When I got off the phone I also immediately tried to cancel on ubereats as well but it wouldn't let me, so I contacted a customer service rep via chat right away and after he said "hi how can I help you", he disappeared for 25min!!!" So by the time he returned to the chat the shrimp pho was already delivered, which was even more annoying cause during the phone conversation, my friend had already ordered from another restaurant cause he didn't want food from Pho Lantern anymore given how the owner treated me on the phone. And my friend has been a long time regular customer at Pho Lantern! Of course, ubereats didn't do anything about it even though the customer service rep disappeared for 25min and didn't cancel the extra order in time (and neither did Pho Lantern even though I had told them to). I also had to pay extra fees which I wasn't reimbursed for in the original order (when an item is missing, ubereats just refunds the item price but none of the associated fees). Needless to say, I will never order from Pho Lantern (or use ubereats) again. There are plenty of better options in the area. read more
