They moved a little east on Olive and we finally made it there. We liked the updated look of the new place. We were very surprised by the updated prices though. Wow! We almost got up and left, but thought about all the rising costs of things and stayed. The food was very good. It was just like before. Our take away is this. We used to be regulars there before the move. Now, on a rare occasion will we spend that much for Pho. It was very good, but with as many great restaurants as there are, with prices that also offer food or better values than what we found here, we will not be coming back very often. Great place in the city for some pho, especially when that cold weather hits this place hits the spot! Usually go for the P.1. which is with sliced ribeye pho. They give a good portion of both meat and noodles, and the pricing is very affordable at around $10 or so. You can add hoisen sauce, siracha, herbs, and bean sprouts to taste. The broth is mid-pack in flavor for pho that I've tried which is why the 4 stars and not 5. The restaurant has good service as well and has a free parking lot behind it. Pho Long has quickly become my new favorite Vietnamese restaurant on the south side. Liza and David were both incredible servers and took care of a full house with grace and determination. The food was so delicious I completely forgot to take a picture before it was gone! The broth of the pho was so incredible and flavorful I barely left a drop in the bottom of the bowl. What's really fascinating about this place is the outside is so nondescript that you could pass by it for years and never think of stopping (like I did!). When you walk in the door, you are almost transported to a different world. The lighting, decor, and general ambience is inviting and warm. I really like this pho place and their concept of including a beef rib or oxtail in pho is very interesting and tasty. Atmosphere - 5 stars bc the inside is actually nice and doesn't feel like you're eating in a divey cafeteria as is the case with most viet restaurants. Service - 5 stars. Nice and courteous service. Being Vietnamese and coming from an area that is predominantly Vietnamese, it was always going to be challenge finding comparable quality anywhere else in the country. I have tried Pho Long many times and my initial impression was that the broth was too salty and really detracted from the dish. However, I have tried it more times since and they have fixed those issues. I feel that the Pho here is solid. The broth, for the most part, is fine, and will satisfy most palates. I do feel that there is a missing element/depth of flavor to the dish and that the rare beef is not as tender. One notable thing that sets Pho Long over other the Pho places in the city is the portion size; they give a greater amount of food (compared to places like Pho Grand) for a comparable price point. I also have enjoyed their non-Pho dishes such as the rice plates. I have tried the Com Suon Sate Trung (braised pork chop) and the Com Thit Bo Ba Chi (beef belly). These dishes are an homage to Com Tam (broken rice), and I think they do a good interpretation. The pork chop itself is thicker than other places that have similar items and the beef belly is marinated well and is very tender. I recently saw that they have a dish that closely resembles Com Tam with the traditional sides, so I'll be back to try that! I recently tried a dish that I have not found in STL until now, Bun Cha Ha Noi (vermicelli and grilled pork). This is the dish that the late Anthony Bourdain tried with then President Obama in Hanoi. I thought that it was a well executed dish that reminded me of home. The patty and the meat was grilled and marinated well and the nuoc mam (fish sauce) with ginger complemented the grilled meat, vegetables, and vermicelli noodles well. The avocado smoothie sweetened with condensed milk, which is another Vietnamese drink like Vietnamese iced coffee, was good. Service has been on point here; the staff are friendly. The ambiance of the restaurant is modern and Vietnamese music is playing sometimes. Overall, I think Pho Long is a solid place to eat Pho and to try other Vietnamese dishes. read more

This place was the perfect answer to a rainy day. My husband and I ordered dinner to go and got Beef Pho, chicken wings, spring rolls, and some Tiramisu for dessert. The broth is really the most important part of Pho and determines what makes a good Pho shop, and this place passed the test. The broth was rich and flavorful. Thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, customer service, and food here. I came here with three lunatic children and the in-laws and I was impressed with how calm and helpful the staff was at setting up a table and getting the kiddos settled right when we walked in. The waitress was amazing and brought the kids waters in cups with lids (which is smart!) and they explained the menu to my in-laws who are vegetarian and typically have issues finding something they'll enjoy.
