I read the reviews and was a little worried. But I had a truly great dining experience when I visited Pho Michael. I was later than expected getting to New Orleans so I was hungry. Once I got settled in, I looked at Yelp for a recommendation to eat. I was near so many great places to dine but Pho Michael won, despite the negative reviews. I was greeted warmly when I entered and allowed to pick where I sat. The feel inside was interesting, as Michael Jackson was playing but the decor reminded me of an Asian restaurant. It was clean though. I ordered a sweet tea which they add a sweetener when you order it. I won't get this again. I ordered the spring rolls with shrimp, which many reviews called them small. These rolls were so big they could almost serve as an entree. They tasted so fresh and the peanut sauce accompanied them well. For my main dish, I ordered the pho with filet mignon. It's one of their popular dishes so I figured it would be okay. When they placed a steaming hot bowl of pho in front of me, I knew I had a made a solid decision. I added a tad of hoisin sauce along with the sprouts, basil and jalapeños. The beef broth was sooooooo good as well. Only regret I had was a smaller portion wasn't offered. I ordered the smallest size available but it was so much. I tried to eat it all but couldn't lol. Service was top notch, as my server and another gentleman checked on me but didn't hover. This is a place I would visit again no matter where in New Orleans I stay.

May be an unpopular opinion, but I wasn't impressed by this pho place. The interior of the restaurant itself was nicely decorated and very clean; service was good. The pho portion was small, and there wasn't much meat. I was hoping for more than a couple slices of filet mignon and a couple small tendon pieces for the price point ($16). The flavor of the broth was great, and the noodles had a good texture. If you're in desperate need of a pho place, I'd say this place fits the bill, but doesn't exceed any expectations.

Not sure who needs to hear this but I was really upset with the food I picked up last night at Pho Michael's. I ordered a large Shrimp Pho to share with my wife for dinner. When I arrived home I started unpacking everything and realized the plastic pho container was only 3/4's full. I ordered a large and paid extra only to find out that we had been shorted pho. Then after starting to prepare pho for each of us I looked for the basil, jalapeño, bean sprouts ect. it was not there. I called to see if it maybe didn't come with the Shrimp Pho but was told that they forgot to include it with my order. To make things even worse I only got one packet of hosin sauce and one packet of Sriracha sauce. I've ordered from Pho Michael's many times before and have never had a bad experience until last night. I guess it was just an off night for your staff.

Would haven't given it about a 4.5 star rating if we didn't feel rushed out. Food was pretty good I had the brisket pho I felt as if the broth could have had a bit more flavor but those WINGS were amazing presentation was nice we all agreed that the sauce that came drizzled on the wings could have been a dipping sauce or more drizzle. We also ordered the crab Rangoon but that was forgotten so we just decided to not worry about getting it any more. I would say the bbq short ribs with the fried rice were really really good If I were to go back I would probably get that. We also tried a couple of the teas (mango and green apple with the tapioca balls) tea was refreshing for sure. Over all the food was good

Pho Michael is one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in NOLA. I always recommend this place to others because of its central location to everything, it's in the heart of Metairie with its own parking lot. The menu is large with good options and a bit on the pricey side, but well worth it. I love to order their beef spring rolls, pho dac biet, and bun bo hue. What sets them apart is the choice to add a side of bone marrow to your bowl, which adds more umami and flavor to your bowl. Overall, a great place to grab vietnamese food especially after a wild night out with plenty of alcohol involved. Check them out!

A pho place I tried out because the other place I often go to was closed. The decor is nice and parking is easy. They have a dedicated lot. The portions are okay for the price and the amount of meat you get is probably standard. There's nothing too special about it - the soup was good, the noodles were a bit undercooked that never got cooked after coming out because the soup wasn't too hot. The staff are nice and friendly. There's really nothing bad to say about the place but nothing really stood out to me either.

I've been on a vietnamese kick lately and I didn't feel like cooking on Christmas eve so I went ahead and ordered delivery. This was one of the only places open, all the way in Metairie, but luckily uber eats didn't mind delivering to Uptown. I got the lemongrass tofu rice plate. It was tasty, but I admit I couldn't really taste the lemongrass. Just tasted like regular wok fried tofu. What I really loved was the sauce that came with it. I saved some and used it in salad for a couple days afterward. So fresh and tangy. And they also included extra hoisin like I asked. The price was decent for a rice plate--only $10. Of course it ended up being more because delivery, so I guess takeout is the way to go.

Pho is really good here. The bun bo hue wasn't that great. They had bone marrow and onion in vinegar sauce here. We came here around 12pm and was seated right away. It wasn't that busy. Food took a while to get here though. Service was ok. Indoor dining only.

By far the best Bun Bo Hue that I have had in New Orleans. We were missing some of my mom's Vietnamese cooking and decided to stop by and try Pho Michael. We ordered the Banh Xeo for our appetizer. The Banh Xeo was crispy, crunchy and generously filled with meat and shrimp! The flavor was not overly coconut, but they could have sliced the meat down a little bit as it was large pieces. Then we had the BBQ Short ribs and Bun Bo Hue. The short ribs had amazing flavor and were cooked perfectly. This would be the reason to visit here until we tried the Bun Bo Hue. The BBH had a spicy broth with tender strips of meat. The meat could also be sliced down to have more with each bite, but this BBH is so very close to my mom's. This was our best Vietnamese experience and we definitely will come back to try their other options!

Just moved to Louisiana. It's very hard for me to find authentic Vietnamese food that isn't too Americanized to where the flavors are lacking. This place was amazing! It's very rare that I don't have to add too much seasoning to the broth. 10/10 recommend.

The service was fast and friendly and the food was good. I tried the brisket pho and crab rangoons and enjoyed it. I ordered the small bowl of pho and it was still a large portion for a great price. The bubble tea was great too, especially with lychee popping bubbles. It's a great spot in Metairie and there is plenty of parking. read more

So this place changed owners again. So the family went and tried their pho and bun. The prices are a bit steep for Vietnamese food. The portions are small but the food itself was actually cooked well. Not too impressed with the tiny portions of noodles on the pho. My five and three year old were able to finish a regular sized bowl and they don't eat much. The portions are small and they th to upcharge you for additional noodles. No expert here but i don't think packages noodles would cost that much. At least least you customers leaving your restaurant actually full. Would go back for one more Vance but if I get upcharge again, I would not come back and drive the extra 10 mins for better Vietnamese food. read more

I have to admit, I've become a Pho glutton and Pho Michael gets all the blame. My wife usually picks up a pho on the way home from work and brings me a Pho beef broth for lunch tomorrow, as there are so many fresh and delicious ingredients I can usually split them up between two meals. One of my pet peeves is the use of prepared/instant MSG based pho seasonings. With this broth you can tell this is a thorough reduced liquid from long hours of beef bones reducing. The seasoning isn't overbearing, it's just right. As I mentioned earlier, the ingredients are fresh, plentiful and good enough for two meals. Sanitation is also high on Pho Michael's priorities which is truly expected. A first class experience to be savored. read more

Tried it for the first time with my boyfriend. We got the beef vermicelli noodles and spicy beef soup. Half of the vermicelli bowl were vegetables (if you're really into vegetables) and the soup wasn't spicy. The portions way too small for such high prices. I'm 90 pounds and ate a large bowl of soup, still hungry ! Granted half the meat in my bowl was inedible fat, if you're into that I guess this is your dish. The service was good and the place looked nice though. I'll have to stick to my more authentic filling Vietnamese restaurants. read more

The Pho Soup is good; the other items I do not care for as much seems everything is a lot of iceberg lettuce and that makes it not worth the price. Spring rolls most iceberg lettuce; Crab Rangoon there is no crab; etc... go for the soup it is good. read more

Easily my favorite Pho place in the city, I go here for lunch on a regular basis. Their pho is incredible, the broth is really tasty and they add a lot of brisket to it! I also get their vermicelli bowls and an equally impressed with how much food they serve you. The staff is really friendly and they accommodate my dietary restrictions. I was really excited to try the new restaurant at this location. It was hard for me to decide between 3-4 stars, but ultimately it was the little things that put it back to 3. The greeting was friendly as was the waiter. I got pork spring rolls and brisket pho to dine in, and a grilled pork rice plate to go. The spring rolls were good and I really liked the dipping sauce. The pho was missing the complex flavor that really makes a good pho- notes of star anise, ginger, onion, etc. it tasted more along the lines of a slightly salty beef broth. The description of the rice plate stated that it came with a clear soup. I did not see that in the to go bag, so I asked about it and was told that it only comes with a dine in order. I have gotten Vietnamese to go in many places and have never been denied the side soup that comes with the meal (and there was also nothing stated on the menu about it being dine in only). Terrible service, and mediocre food. The place was empty, so there were three servers for two tables, totaling one server per costumer. And yet, somehow, it was really hard to order. They kept talking to each other and never looked at the tables. The pho did not have much flavor. There are so many good pho options in new orleans, there is no reason to eat here. The price is on the low end, but still a bad deal for the quality. read more

Pho was the objective for the evening and we decided to try a new spot. We have had better but we were not disappointed. I love there pho to noodle ratio and the sate was very potent and flavorful. I normally order lettuce wraps with my egg rolls but they brought me cut up pieces of lettuce. I made due with it; the egg rolls didn't disappoint either! I'll definitely return. read more

I have Visited my daughter from San Jose and we tried few Asian restaurants in Metairie . This place so far is the best. Super clean and well organized interior.Warm welcome by the owner and servers Hui & Van are super nice with genuine smile on their faces all the time . Food are super fresh and delivery extremely fast .My favorite is shrimp pork spring roll and P1 combination pho with everything in it. I am very picky about Asian food but I am very satisfied with their food because there is no Msg and taste very natural and delicious. Highly recommended !!! Will be back soon!! read more

Outstanding Pho and Excellent Customer Service I am a huge pho fan, and I will travel all over the New Orleans area for good pho. I discovered Pho Michael by chance, when I passed in front of the building, in search of the Vietnamese restaurant that previously occupied that building, and noticed the "Coming Soon" sign for Pho Michael. I have been there numerous times since then -- recently, almost on a weekly basis. I have also encouraged my friends and others to visit, and many have taken me up on it and loved it. The Combination Pho is excellent, with delicious broth. If you like spicy soup with a hint of curry taste, the Spicy Beef Pho is a real treat. Their Shrimp and Pork Spring Rolls are very good as well. However, the atmosphere and the very pleasant service are second to none -- certainly worth the drive to Metairie from downtown New Orleans for lunch. It also has a very nice dinner vibe. read more

Not impressed at all...I ordered through Waitr so maybe that has something to do with take out. However the shrimp in both the spring rolls and pho tasted old. The broth in the Pho was not desirable. Flavor was bland on everything.... The best thing I ordered was the fried pork dumplings. I have ordered pho through app based delivery before from other places without issue. read more

This is the second visit I've had to Pho Michael, and I love it! Super consistent quality, and an awesome selection of vegetarian options. Their veggie broth is delicious, I like their chili oil to make it spicier. My girlfriend is Vietnamese and makes me come here, as she enjoys the authentic side. They have absolutely gorgeous and classy decorations that are still friendly and relaxing. Definitely check this place out! read more

The cup was made of sturdy, frosted plastic. On top there were some dried roses. This was so tasty! I loved the flavor, it was subtly sweet, and the cheese provided a slight savory balance. The tiny pieces of lychee were an added chewy bonus. My friend also enjoyed her Passionfruit tea. I wish we had some bubble tea places that offered the cheese foam, here in Connecticut, maybe I'll have to look a bit harder. We had a lovely time at Follow Tea, and enjoyed their tasty products.

Now, I'm not going to lie, The first time I ever went to Pho Michael, I was NOT impressed. I thought everything was disgusting and or either bland. The pho, the fish sauce for the vermicelli was bland, just everything was not great. I refused to ever come back here again until one day I was craving Vietnamese food so bad. My boyfriend took a good 3 hours convincing me lol. So I caved in and I went. OH MY GOD, THANK GOD HEAVENS OF ALL BOWLS OF PHO. They improved sooooo well! And I've never been happier about living only 2 minutes away. The broth was soo good like you can tell they took a lot of time preparing it. It tastes home made! It really can't get any more authentic than this. So if you're coming here for the Pho, do yourself a favor and order a side of bone marrow too. IT. IS. SO. GOOOD. I was looking for a place to eat lunch before my road trip back home, and I was glad I found Pho Michael. The restaurant was one of the few that was open on July 4th, and I was not disappointed. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I ordered the pho, and it was delicious. The broth was flavorful and herby, and the meat was tender and cooked perfectly. The shrimp po'boy was also excellent. The shrimp were fresh and juicy, and the sauce was flavorful and tangy. We also tried the fresh lemon soda, and it was refreshing and delicious. The ambiance at Pho Michael was nice and clean. The restaurant was not too crowded, so we were able to get a table right away. As a native Houstonian and having a plethora of asian restaurants to pick and choose from; I think this is one of the few places that can be comparable in terms of quality and taste. Met some friends here for lunch and ordered the vermicelli bowl with pork and egg roll. Vermicelli noodles were cooked just right and the pork wasn't over flavored and the egg rolls were very crispy! The Vietnamese coffee here is also very good. Most places make it too sweet. My friends all ordered pho. The pho is best when the broth is really HOT--and it was perfect. This is my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in New Orleans. There's nothing better than having a steaming hot bowl of soup plopped right in front of you. The fragrant smells of the cloves, star anise, and shallots prepare your stomach for the awesomeness you are about to consume. The lime juice finishes off the soup and brings all the flavor together. Servers are so helpful and polite and food is always quick and fresh even when they are busy. I usually order the pork rice plate which is great, but Pho Michael has really made me love pho even more. It's not too salty and fresh ingredients! Unfortunately, my experience was a huge disappointment. For me, it's the little details that make a difference. The noodles, oxtail, and toppings came in a Styrofoam container, while the broth was packaged separately in the standard clear soup container. I understand this is how pho was traditionally packaged for takeout because people were usually taking it home, where they had bowls. But with so many people ordering through DoorDash to their jobs or other places, there's often no bowl available. It would be a much better experience if the noodles and toppings were packaged in a large bowl instead. They also didn't include any utensils or chopsticks. Thankfully, I keep a pair in my purse, but I shouldn't have to. The oxtails looked dry and were nowhere near as tender as I expected. The broth was the biggest letdown. It was overly salty and tasted like plain beef broth rather than a true Vietnamese pho broth. It was missing the rich, slow-simmered flavor and the aromatic spices like star anise, cinnamon, cloves, and roasted herbs that give pho its signature taste. It honestly tasted like store-bought broth instead of something made from scratch. I almost ordered the banh mi too, but decided to go with the highly recommended oxtail pho. Based on this experience, I'm glad I didn't spend even more money. Maybe I'm being a little harsh because I'm sick and was really craving a comforting bowl of pho. I also have to take some responsibility because I didn't stick with the place I normally order from. I wanted to try something new, and this one just wasn't for me. So honestly, I blame myself for taking the chance. Unfortunately, between the poor packaging, missing utensils, dry oxtail, and disappointing broth, I won't be ordering from Pho House Cafe again. The 2 stars was for portion and freshness of the topping.

The staff was super friendly and helpful. My hubby and I shared a Combination Rice plate and my granddaughter had a child's portion Chicken and rice bowl along with a Strawberry Banana Smoothie. The food was a hit with my granddaughter. And we were so surprised and thankful that they created 2 separate beautiful plates out of our one entree. We always split an entree and we usually get an extra plate, but the owner was so thoughtful to create us each a plate. The prices are very reasonable and the food was delicious. We will be back!

The dining area is very large so it feels emptier than it should. Even during peak hours. This place deserves a little more recognition considering its location and quality of food. The eternal debate that has been a part of the NOLA Viet scene has been Ba Mien vs Dong Phuong and…read moreI think if there was a choice, it's pretty clear. Ba Mien is still highly regarded in some circles with its vast menu, catering options, and long standing reputation. Until something drastic changes, I think it might be safe to assume their heydey has passed. Located on the east end of the city, the restaurant is situated right along the water and gives off a classic old school Viet joint kind of vibe. It's always been one of those "it's bigger than it looks" kind of establishments; with plenty of group friendly seating and just enough ambience to keep folks interested. The service has always been pretty on top of things and I think the star ratings may skew a bit higher toward that aspect. Food wise, it's been somewhat of a slow downward cluster. At least a decade ago and some change it was assumed this would be the new DP for their big portions and specialties that were well noted in the community. The noodle soups (notably pho, bun bo hue, and bun rieu) have been pretty mediocre as of late and I haven't been too high on their com combinations either. Many folks would say the item to get always is their banh cuon, but even that has fallen somewhat by the wayside. i think one are they're still doing a semi-decent job is in the catering. A wedding I went to earlier this year had a number of hot foods that I thought were solid, enough to make me re-think my assessment on the place. I also realize that banquet food is not a realistic gauge for most folks but if they're still capable to make these types of dishes, then I'd emphasize to consider that over their usual dining choices. While I wouldn't consider them out for the count, I do think there are some improvements that can be made. I believe it's doable; if any community has shown some real resilience, it'd be the NOLA Viet community.
