So this place changed owners again. So the family went and tried their pho and bun. The prices are a bit steep for Vietnamese food. The portions are small but the food itself was actually cooked well. Not too impressed with the tiny portions of noodles on the pho. My five and three year old were able to finish a regular sized bowl and they don't eat much. The portions are small and they th to upcharge you for additional noodles. No expert here but i don't think packages noodles would cost that much. At least least you customers leaving your restaurant actually full. Would go back for one more Vance but if I get upcharge again, I would not come back and drive the extra 10 mins for better Vietnamese food. read more

I have to admit, I've become a Pho glutton and Pho Michael gets all the blame. My wife usually picks up a pho on the way home from work and brings me a Pho beef broth for lunch tomorrow, as there are so many fresh and delicious ingredients I can usually split them up between two meals. One of my pet peeves is the use of prepared/instant MSG based pho seasonings. With this broth you can tell this is a thorough reduced liquid from long hours of beef bones reducing. The seasoning isn't overbearing, it's just right. As I mentioned earlier, the ingredients are fresh, plentiful and good enough for two meals. Tried it for the first time with my boyfriend. We got the beef vermicelli noodles and spicy beef soup. Half of the vermicelli bowl were vegetables (if you're really into vegetables) and the soup wasn't spicy. The portions way too small for such high prices. I'm 90 pounds and ate a large bowl of soup, still hungry ! Granted half the meat in my bowl was inedible fat, if you're into that I guess this is your dish. Easily my favorite Pho place in the city, I go here for lunch on a regular basis. Their pho is incredible, the broth is really tasty and they add a lot of brisket to it! I also get their vermicelli bowls and an equally impressed with how much food they serve you. The staff is really friendly and they accommodate my dietary restrictions. I was really excited to try the new restaurant at this location. It was hard for me to decide between 3-4 stars, but ultimately it was the little things that put it back to 3. The greeting was friendly as was the waiter. I got pork spring rolls and brisket pho to dine in, and a grilled pork rice plate to go. The spring rolls were good and I really liked the dipping sauce. The pho was missing the complex flavor that really makes a good pho- notes of star anise, ginger, onion, etc. it tasted more along the lines of a slightly salty beef broth. The description of the rice plate stated that it came with a clear soup. I did not see that in the to go bag, so I asked about it and was told that it only comes with a dine in order. I have gotten Vietnamese to go in many places and have never been denied the side soup that comes with the meal (and there was also nothing stated on the menu about it being dine in only). Outstanding Pho and Excellent Customer Service I am a huge pho fan, and I will travel all over the New Orleans area for good pho. I discovered Pho Michael by chance, when I passed in front of the building, in search of the Vietnamese restaurant that previously occupied that building, and noticed the "Coming Soon" sign for Pho Michael. I have been there numerous times since then -- recently, almost on a weekly basis. I have also encouraged my friends and others to visit, and many have taken me up on it and loved it. The Combination Pho is excellent, with delicious broth. If you like spicy soup with a hint of curry taste, the Spicy Beef Pho is a real treat. Their Shrimp and Pork Spring Rolls are very good as well. However, the atmosphere and the very pleasant service are second to none -- certainly worth the drive to Metairie from downtown New Orleans for lunch. It also has a very nice dinner vibe. read more

My mother and I traveled to the Southshore today to do some shopping at Trader Joe's, and as we usually do when we hit Metairie, we stop off and get some Vietnamese food. Decided to try a new place this time based on the Yelp reviews, and we're so happy we did. I've worked in Vietnamese restaurants for the past decade or so, and have loved Vietnamese food since childhood growing up on the Westbank, and I can tell you that the Pho at Pho Michael is top-notch and the waiter was wonderful too. The restaurant is spotless and is quite fancy compared to most other Vietnamese restaurants. Really impressed. I ordered the Pho Dac Viet(pho with everything). No tripe, but that is completely fine by me. I'm not a pho snob, and I'm not partial to tripe. The tendon was soft and had a good bite. Meatballs, brisket and steak were tasty, and the broth was complex and not overly sweet as it is in some places. The only thing missing on the side was cilantro, but honestly, the broth really didn't need much help in the herb department. It's really good broth! Bonus: no msg! My mother had the Com Thit Nuong (rice and grilled pork) with a sunny-side egg. Masterfully done. Perfect portion size, seasoned perfectly, and the nuoc mam sauce was on point! Finished with an Avocado Bubble Tea with whipped cream on the top. Perfect ending to a great meal, and the owner came to chat with us. It is clear that she loves the restaurant, her customers, and this love shows up in every aspect of the dining experience- from the decor to the service and especially in the food. Next time I will order the Bun Bo Hue, and I'm willing to bet that I won't be disappointed. Already looking forward to the next trip across the causeway! read more
