I was in the area (which is far considering I'm from Markham) so I had to try Pho Ngoc Yen - heard so much hype. I ordered the Bun Bo Hoe and was not disappointed. The broth was so flavourful, lots of lemongrass and lime flavour. It was loaded with beef, sausage slices, and pork blood so this was very worth it! 10/10! Service was typical of an Asian restaurant but must comment that the decor inside the restaurant is very beautiful. The place was packed with people so that's how you know they're doing great for business, the wait time wasn't too long, ordered the pho tai w/ beef. Added some hot sauce for the flavour. The noodles were nice and soft, not too thin, the broth was beautiful and went well with the hot sauce. The spring rolls were and nice and crispy just the way I like it. Also ordered the green matcha drink, my first time trying green matcha drink and it was nice! They were even kind enough to even gave me a to go cup because I wanted the drink to go. We been to the Etobicoke location previously and it was really good. We tried out this one as a friend said this location was better. The bun bo hue was on the sweeter side, it wasn't spicy at all, which they typically comes with some spice. We also got a rice roll dish and it was fairly disappointing. It didn't really have much of a flavour to it, and the sauce didn't taste like anything. Service was okay, they are attentive when you call for them. Located in an industrial area, parking is a bit limited as there are other businesses operating in the same plaza but in the evening it should be okay to park. We came here around 7pm and there was no wait time surprisingly. The fresh spring rolls didn't taste very fresh. It tasted premade and set aside since the wrap was a bit stiff. The peanut sauce was delicious, however I would skip this. The fried spring roll, was also not the best. The filling is dense and lacked flavour. The stars of the show: P1: NY's special: Broth tasted so rich and delicious, lots of beef and beef balls. 100% worth coming back and getting. I would suggest getting the M size unless you are super hungry the portion size for a L is huge! P9: Braised beef short rib pho, meat is falling off the bone delicious. I decided to take my out of town friends to a different Vietnamese restaurant that I usually don't frequent. My family and friends always like going to Pho Ngoc Yen so I decided to give them another try. I've been to this location and the Etobicoke location. I've never had a "wow" experience, it was always average to me. My husband recently tried their downtown location and said their bun bo hue was really good so he was down to try this location's bun bo hue. I made reservations prior to as we had 7 people. Good thing I did because it was jam packed when we arrived at 5:45 pm on Saturday. I've never seen a Vietnamese restaurant so busy in my life. This must be a good sign! We ordered a variety of dishes. My friends got pho and a broken rice dish. My husband got the bun bo hue and I got the clear noodle soup with seafood. We shared the spring rolls. I notified the server of a peanut allergy at the table so he noted no peanuts to our table. That was appreciated. Food didn't take too long to arrive. My clear noodle soup was normal, nothing unique to call out. My husband said the bun bo hue wasn't as good as the downtown location. I tried the broth and it wasn't spicy and kinda sweet. We visited the OG location, and even though it's tucked in an area full of industrial buildings, the lineup was still out the door. This spot stays busy year-round for good reason. The restaurant itself is beautiful inside and feels like a mini escape from the cold, gloomy city. The staff are all so kind and upbeat, it's hard not to leave in a good mood. The Hủ Tiếu was warm and comforting, with a rich, umami broth and generous portions of seafood and pork. The shrimp cracker was a nostalgic touch that instantly took me back to childhood. The phở was absolute perfection. Generous portions, liquid gold broth, and zero complaints. The Gà Nướng is always a favorite to share. Crispy, slightly sweet coconut rice triangles paired with juicy grilled chicken and nuoc cham made for the perfect balance of textures and flavors. Good sugarcane juice is hard to find in the city since most are muddy or too sweet, but theirs tasted just like home. Pho Ngoc Yen has been in a number of Yelp's top places to eat in the past but I haven't really paid too much attention to visiting since it's quite relatively far out for me and I'm quite satisfied with the pho joints in my hood. However, I'm usually not the one to chase the hype but Kehlani recently raved about this spot a couple weeks back and I happen to be passing the area on my way home so I figured let's check it out and put my curiosity to rest. TLDR version: Unique variety of options and decent food. Some dishes and drinks I've only seen here. I still think this shop benefited from a lot of tourists given its closer proximity to the airport (less than 10km). I saw a couple traveler tables around me. I mean it is in a very commercial area with minimal traffic so you still have to be intentional to come here as opposed to stumbling upon it. I don't think I'll go out of my way to come here but if you're along the way, it's a solid choice. First of all the menu is massive and I expected a huge line given the recent press. Thankfully we didn't need to wait longer than 15 mins and we were there closer to 8pm on Saturday. When you add yourself to the waitlist, they will hand you this thick book of a menu so you can use that time to select your dishes so you can tell them exactly what you want by the time you sit down. It's super efficient and food comes out very quickly. Food Ordered: Papaya salad with fermented crab - 7/10 - the fermented crab was a bit too hard to really eat it whole like some others mentioned in previous reviews. We had to spit out the shell. I enjoyed it while my husband didn't and thought the flavours were too intense. We brought it home and added some vermicelli to dilute the flavours and it was pretty good. Saigon Authentic Fish Noodle Soup - 8.5/10 - Really good soup though I expected they mixed in some bone broth in it. However, because the consistency was thin it's probably not bone based or a diluted bone base because the cooled down leftovers didn't have a gelatin consistency that I notice from collagen from a concentrated bone broth the next day Roasted matcha green tea with chia seeds and grass jelly 9/10 - Can't really fault it. It's exactly what I expected and I like that chia seeds make this more healthier. Vermicelli bowl - I didn't have this but tasted a bit of it. I say it's consistent to any great Viet restaurant across the city and generously portioned. Avocado shake - Super thick.... way thicker than any other Viet restaurant we had before. Review overdue, this is my fav pho spot and its so popular now! I got one of my fav dishes, Lemongrass Chicken served with Deep Fried Coconut Sticky rice. The taste was amazing. For the drink, I ordered the Avocado shake but was a bit disappointed by the colour as you can see in the photo. It also tasted a bit bland because of poorly selected avocados. Service was not bad, but its so busy here that the waiter gave a gentle hint to leave after we were done eating. This is a very busy spot. I can see why! We ordered the beef pho, and seafood pho. We also did a chicken pho to go. The beef was great. Same with the seafood. The chicken was good, however the chicken itself was a weird consistency and the skin of it was yellow and hard to chew. The only thing that was lacking a bit was the service. We sat and waited for quite some time, and they did not tell us that you had to write down what you wanted to order. They also skipped our table with the complimentary Jasmine tea. Finally got to try this hyped up viet restaurant, tried the OG in Mississauga. Kind of in a random plaza but very easy to spot as their logo is at the very front. The menu is quite big like really big!! in a good way, they had a lot of items that usually other viet restaurants don't usually have. The restaurant is nicely decorated, spacious seating, nice table wear. Servers were nicely dressed and some were even wearing traditional "ao doi" dresses. The items were a little bit pricer but it's worth a try since the flavour is good. Really solid spot with a great vibe! The interior has a really cool, unique atmosphere with the thatched roofing and plants that makes for a great dining experience. They were also showing FIFA matches! The prices are incredibly reasonable for the setting: I got a large pho for $18,it was absolutely massive and left me completely stuffed. The broth was a little sweet for my liking, but was hearty, with lots of meat and bean sprouts. After hearing my friends rave about this place I was finally in the area and visited. We lucked out with waiting only 5 minutes for our table. You enter your number into a digital Yelp waitlist at the entrance. We were seated by the window and wrote down our orders on a piece of paper. We ordered the meatball and beef pho, bun Bo hue and vermicelli with chicken, beef and spring rolls and also got the marinated garlic chicken wings to share. We got the iced viet coffee with condensed milk, salty lime soda water and roasted milk tea with chia seeds and grass jelly. The portions are ginormous and I liked the bun Bo hue the most. It's kind of like a Tom yum soup that's less sour with a nice kick. There were lots of ingredients in it and I gave away two blocks of pig's blood jelly. Ask to skip raw onions if you're not a fan as it was loaded with it! Our servers were busy but attentive as they spotted our dropped spoon immediately and replaced it in a second! Not sure what the hype is about. The shrimp pad Thai was not good at all. The shrimp was either old or over cooked. The dish where you make your own rolls, was not worth it. It came with a sauce that was not the traditional Vietnamese fish sauce nor the peanut sauce. Both which were more authentic and so much better than what they gave us. It was a tasteless "dipping sauce ". For that price you can go to another Vietnamese place that gives you 7 types of meat for just a bit more and with the delicious sauces. The only dish worth the drive was the beef Pho. The price was high but that was the only dish worth it. Sorry. I tried different dishes just because it had great reviews but nah. Came here with four other people. It was easy to find, and we found parking easily. There was a bit of a wait, but we got a table in a very reasonable amount of time. The restauraunt is pretty big and the inside is decorated prettily. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I got vermicelli with BBQ chicken and spring roll, as well as a salted preserved lime drink. The food was so good, and it was a big portion accompanied with a large bowl of fish sauce. The chicken was cooked well and there was a lot of vegetables. The drink I got was really refreshing, like a lemonade with electrolytes almost. We visited this restaurant tonight and were deeply disappointed by its customer service and handling of food issues. My girlfriend has a mild peanut allergy. We ordered the Miến Gà Trộn, which arrived with peanuts sprinkled on top -- even though the menu DID NOT list peanuts as an ingredient. We told our waiter of this, his solution was for us to order and pay for another dish while taking the original (inedible for her) home. The waiter's dismissive attitude added insult to injury. This response was completely appalling and unacceptable: 1. Customer Service Training: A customer with a food allergy should be met with immediate concern and a genuine effort to resolve the issue. Suggesting that we pay for a second meal due to an unlisted allergen is a profound failure in customer service. Better customer service training is clearly warranted. 2. Menu Clarity: The menu must clearly identify potential allergens. Many other Vietnamese restaurants list common allergens for each dish, which is especially important when menu items are primarily listed in their native language. Providing this information is essential for customers to make informed and safe choices. We understand the policy of notifying staff about allergies, but how can we do that when the allergens aren't listed in the first place? I came here for the first time with a group of friends on Boxing Day 2024. Since we were a group of 6, we were given a booth which worked out pretty well for us. Our server was kind, patient and very knowledgeable. Since it was my first time trying Vietnamese cuisine, I had a few questions about the different Phos. He really helped me by explaining the difference between them and gave a great suggestion when I told him what I was looking for. I decided to go with the P5 Pho which had rare beef and chicken. The medium Pho was huge! It was definitely more than enough food for one person, and it was delicious! The only small downside to this experience was that on Holidays, this restaurant doesn't split bills. So when you're going as a group, it can be a little tough. The restaurant had nice decor with Christmas lights strung throughout the dining area and decorative plants that didn't overwhelm and make the restaurant look too busy or tacky. Soft Christmas piano music playing in the background added to the overall classy ambience. All of the food had nice presentation. The goi cuon with pork and shrimp were very large, but tasted fresh. It was presented nicely in a basket. The mango salad with dried shrimp was a light salad that had perfect balance between the sweetness of the mango and saltiness of the shrimp. The stir-fried clam and pork had a lot of flavor and just the right amount of spice. The bbq chicken lemongrass was perfectly cooked - moist and flavorful. The hint of lemongrass elevated the chicken to another level. But, I didn't care too much for the fried sticky rice.
