Absolutely fantastic food. I am quite familiar with Vietnamese food(I am engaged to a Vietnamese) and this place is not messing around. I am here for the week, and came here for lunch. I had the pho with sirloin, tendon, and tripe. It was so good, I came back for dinner. I had the #46 (pork, Vietnamese meatloaf, fried egg, rice, etc) and it was delicious.... The wait staff is very warm, and eased my homesickness with the way they carried themselves and spoke in Vietnamese....While I cannot speak it fluently, it was soothing to listen to.... I will be back for lunch tomorrow, and most likely dinner as well....This is a wonderful hole-in-the wall location.... I 100% recommend this place; the building does not do it justice, but you soon forget about that once you start eating. ***Don't listen to what AI N said about the coffee, if he knew anything about true Vietnamese coffee he would realize that they prepare their coffee in a metal strainer that takes a little while to drip through....I'm guessing he hasn't been to real Vietnamese restaurants in Boston...I'm guessing that the "MSG backache/headache" he experienced was probably more caused by culture shock than MSG...*** read more

Zero stars. Everything started out great. Got our orders and started eating. Rang the button to call the server for a straw and she had a horrible attitude. "What do you want?" she asked. Surprised I asked her excuse me and she said it again. "What do you want?" I was shocked and just disregarded and asked for a straw. She left with an attitude. Then I asked for some creamer for my Vietnamese coffee. She then said that the type of coffee I ordered does not taste well with creamer. Then she hovered over my food and started to lecture me about the coffee and how to drink it and that the coffee itself should not have creamer. I really wanted to get up and tell her off but contained my composure and told her it was fine. If she could just take it away please. So she left it and came back with another coffee that had creamer inside and put it in a to go cup. She kept harassing me about the coffee. "Do you want it?" "Take it." At this point I had lost my appetite and just wanted to take my food home to eat. I left the coffee too. Never going back there again. Horrible customer service. I know to be kind to guests as I myself am a server. Sad, the food was good though. read more

Food was really delicious but service and cleanliness took away from the great flavors. The bathroom was dirty and the chairs were really old and worn down. I've been to several Vietnamese restaurants and this is by far my favorite. I don't know what they put in the broth of the pho but it is amazing! The wonton soup is good too. This is the best place to get pho in Sioux Falls, hands down. The place is quaint and quiet, and service is pretty quick. The server isn't much for talking, but that's okay. She brings you water right away and keeps them filled, she takes your order and brings it to you in a timely fashion. The food is always hot, the drinks are plentiful, and the service is quick. What the restaurant lacks in atmosphere, it makes up in taste, quality of ingredients, and the authenticity and breadth of the menu. I ordered the shrimp, pork, steak, spring roll noodle bowl. It is served with nuoc cham sauce which is typically -fish sauce, lime juice, sugar, and peppers. It tasted like water. Meats are typically grilled and added to the noodles and vegetables for a Bun bowl. All of the meats tasted like they were boiled. SO DISAPPOINTED....... I checked out Pho Quynh during a stay in Sioux Falls. It was a pretty small restaurant that seemed to offer delivery and limited parking. When I went, it was pretty dead but it was a weird time. I ended up ordering the Vietnamese coffee drink and a tofu, vegetable, bean sprout dish. The coffee drink honestly was not that great. It came in a weird "brewing" thing that dripped over the cup and honestly, I didn't know what to do with it for a while. The thing was still dripping away after 15 minutes and I have never seen a presentation like that before. I ended up pouring on the imported chile sauce and burning my mouth greatly..which was what I was looking for. The vegetables seemed very fresh and the tofu was delicious. It wasn't anything more than I expect when it comes to these types of restaurants and the coffee definitely wasn't a seller to me. The service was good and friendly though and it was worth hitting up for $10. read more

Been 2 years since our last visit and the experience was like the last: disappointing. First off, I know service is not exactly our forte at Vietnamese restaurants, so the food is supposed to make up for the shortcomings. This time, however, must not have been a very good day for our hostess. She has the most controlled anger expression I've ever received from a complete stranger. We asked in Vietnamese what the specials are at this restaurant and she told us to look in the menu...okay... it was somewhat cloudy and a little cold in July. Weather can affect our mood. When our plate of vegetables for the pho and bun bo hue arrived, I am reminded of our last disappointing experience: limited variety --missing basil and banana blossom. It's okay, though...I get it: those are hard to come by in this area. I was going to ask for more jalapeños, but I was afraid I would get another stink eye. The bun bo hue tasted more like bo kho. The com suong with eggs and cha was over cooked and dried. My daughter said that it looked like it was previously prepared, reheated, and served to us. We asked for a side of soup, which is often offered with the rice dish, and it seems to irritate our hostess even more. Like an interpreted dance to a wild song, the taste of the soup was a perfect accompaniment to the mood: a clashing of sweet and salty. After two sips, we gave up. What they were able to get right is the pho flavoring. It could most definitely use a little more of anise and a little less sodium, but in comparison to the other dishes, it was the star dish. Maybe we'll come back in our next visit to Sioux Falls in another couple of years. Hopefully, it will be a bright sunny day then. read more

Had some really good pho for lunch. I thought the broth was flavorful - the beef was a tad overcooked and the tripe was kinda stuck together but the broth and everything else was great. Also had the spring rolls which were tasty (had shrimp) but I prefer mine with cilantro inside. The peanut dipping sauce was amazing. I have never had Vietnamese coffee before and I am a huge fan! It was very good with the sweetened condensed milk and it kept me up all night for the night shift! It was really good warm and I'm thinking I'd like it iced too. RATED As a food professional, I know historically one thing that must happen in a successful restaurant is that the food must all come and be served to the table at 1 time. The reason this almost never happens at Pho Quynh is that 1 person is cooking, finishing and plating your food one plate at a time. If this is the new standard then I love the results. Dig in, share and know that your food is not being prepared by a 16 year old but an accomplished Chef of Vietnamese cuisine. A 100 item menu would be a joke in almost any other setting, this family pulls it off. Pho is a breakfast food in Vietnam, protein, broth, vegetables and herbs could do us all some good. We have not found a single item to avoid on the menu. BTW Pho Quynh was burglarized and robbed this past Memorial Day, we went as a group and paid cash the day before which was taken by the thieves along with all other cash in the building following a 3 day weekend. Decent hole-in-the-wall place for Vietmanese food. Came here to pick up some food for lunch and here are my impressions. Place is pretty small but there are a couple tables/chairs inside so perhaps a small group is okay but that's kinda stretching it (depending on what you consider to be a small group - subjective). Came & ordered a rice noodle combo dish that also came with beef/shrimp, egg roll pieces, and some accompanying marinade sauce. Overall, ingredients used in such are decent. Meat was flavorful & great, egg rolls were decent, and rice noodles were okay/kind of bland. However, I came away with only a lukewarm feeling of the food in general. Something about the flavors in the dish when brought together just didn't feel right. Lots of savory, but there was also a rather strange flavor in it as well that I couldn't really quite identify. Needless to say, that kinda ruined it for me & prevented me from giving any rating higher than middle-of-the-road. Might be from something else that was cooked in the same pot used to make this? If so, it might be worth addressing. Overall, an average Viet joint with a relatively decently sized menu though I wouldn't consider this my first choice to go to in this area. read more

But I'm a broth guy. So it's all good. Ordered the curry. Good flavor. I'm used to Thai curry and it's different. They serve it with bread (I prefer rice). It's very thin (soupy). Had the standard rare beef pho. Was very good served with all the extras (sprouts, cilantro, lime). The environment is what you would expect, nothing fancy. I am leaning towards 4, but it really isn't quite there. I had the Pho here and flavor wise it is very close. However it does feel a little bit as if it was made from a mix and not from scratch. The broth is a little plain and doesn't have quite the same depth as better places, but considering the options and location can't be too picky. The spring rolls were a little heavy on the noodle, but generally were okay. It may be the seasons, but the side options were very minimal and did not give the typical large selection of vegetables to add. If you're craving Vietnamese or want to get introduced then Pho Quynh will fit the bill however it's just the start of a journey as there are many much better Vietnamese restaurants out there. read more

Pho Quynh was the first Vietnamese place I'd tried when I first walked in a few years ago. I had the most tripped-out pho on the menu and have tried its equivalent at pretty much every place I've lived/traveled to since. It stands up to other places fine. As other reviewers have pointed out, the broth may be a bit on the bland/not-quite-homemade side. What has always been more of a concern to me is the fact that it appears that they're raising a child in the restaurant, giving him free rein to run all over the place during business hours. Another review here mentioned toddlers and cell phones. Well, I returned to Sioux Falls a couple of weeks ago. The child is a few years older, has moved on to annoying hand-held video games, and STILL has the run of the place. In fact, he was sitting at a table in the middle of the main restaurant sating area, playing his games with an adult sitting right there with him, taking turns as well. At least you aren't forced to listen to cartoons playing fairly loudly on the TVs anymore, but the volume is always on so you WILL be treated to something coming from them. You can always expect a brusque older female to greet you as you walk in as if your presence in the restaurant is an annoyance, and employees commonly just sit around the restaurant until the next patron comes in. One might have the laptop out, working on something in one booth, while the "hostess" will be sitting at another. And, of course, there's the omnipresent child who has been there every time I'VE been there, regardless of time of year, time of day, or day of the week. The food that I've had is fine, but there's a ceiling on how high your spirits can be lifted when you enter that place and see that the atmosphere is the same as it was the last time you were there. read more

I usually don't venture away from the few things I order here because they are so good. I really like this place even though their toddler son runs around the place talking to everyone and playing with toys. The food is totally worth it. Spring Rolls (not fried) are good with the peanut sauce that comes with them. A good apetizer to share. Pho Tai - a dish of noodles, broth and sirloin. I like it the best when they have the sides of sprouts, basil, jalapenios, and lime to add in addition to any hot sauce they have on the table. I'm not a fan of the cilantro when they have that. This is my #1 here I forget what the dish is called but it is toward the back of the menu - it is noodles, tofu and cabbage and it is delicious! read more

Easily one of my favorite restaurants in town. The food is all very good, I myself prefer the rice dishes but nobody I've eaten there with has ever complained about the other types of dishes, which there are a lot of. The menu is very large, you'll be sure to find something you like. The menu is also numbered for ease of ordering and pronunciation. My favorite is the 49, a rice platter with beef, pork, shrimp, chicken, and vegetables in a delicious broth for under $8. The service is very quick, your server might not speak the best English but just roll with it. Go for the food, don't expect an ornate Vietnamese palace, as the restaurant itself is very modest. It doesn't matter to me. I love the food and will continue to go back quite often. read more

Excellent food and great service! Ambience is about what you expect of a Vietnamese place- it's like they all have the same decorator. Spring rolls were AMAZING- had to wait several minutes to eat because they were so hot. I had #39 which was very good. My daughter had pho which was very flavorful. Servings were very generous- about twice the size of the other Vietnamese restaurant in town. I was also impressed at their non alcoholic drink selection- the limeade was delicious. The sole waitress was incredibly efficient- handled the entire room with ease, and we never had to ask for more anything.
