Delicious pho and a slightly larger menu than the other Vietnamese restaurant down the street. We got a large pho $8 and a stir fried rice noodle $10 and banh xeo $7. Bubble teas are $2 each. Do not recommend the bubbles or the tea. Queens wins hands down on drinks. Maybe the Vietnamese coffee would be better. The restaurant got really full by 12:30 on Saturday but good thing we got there at around noon. The service is a bit nonexistent but the food is really everything. The pho is so rich in flavor yet not oily, greasy, or overwhelming. It's hot and soothing and soul warming. 4 pieces of beef balls and many slices of thin beef. Hubby's flat rice noodle is reminiscent of Cantonese flat rice noodles. It's soupy and with lots of Chinese cabbages and a some slices thin beef. While it's tasty, it's not what we usually think of when having Vietnamese food. The bun xeo is crispy and with lots of bean sprouts. I liked the crunch texture with the sweet sauce but it is a tad oily. You can have a huge satisfying meal at a low price in this place. Mmmm loved this Pho.. it's worth the 2 hour trip from New York. It was recommended to us and I had a great meal. Berry authentic and ladies are very nice even though they speak little English. The food tastes great, but given the circumstance, Im not so sure the sanitation condition inside the kitchen. Im not coming back. Generous amount of Thai basil and lime wedges with some soups, in addition to the crunchy bean sprouts that greatly complimented the succulent beef of the almighty number 4. Pho Saigon is a true hole in the wall. It's in a run down section of Bridgeport. I would never have known about it unless a friend took me there. The place looks like the first floor of a brownstone. Walking in you see a TV blaring a Vietnamese channel and a row of benches with patio vinyl tops like what you see at campgrounds, and the vibe is just like going to a vendor on the street in Saigon. This place only sells Pho and Bahn Mi. The Pho is amazing, I love the broth that smells and has the faint aftertaste of anise and this place scores high on that mark. Also, they take credit card but they don't give you a bill. The place is owned by a couple and they look at all the stuff you ate and give you the total verbally. Pho is $6 and $10 for a large. I agree with the other reviews. This is your textbook "hole in the wall" spot, complete with unexpectedly outstanding food served at very reasonable prices. Everything on the menu is less than $10 (mostly $6-8 range). All noodle soups and meat/rice dishes are a complete meal in themselves. In fact, they almost each make a meal for two. I ordered the #4 (can't remember the name). It was a noodle soup with a red broth and large chunks of very tender beef. Served with a heaping plate of fresh Asian basil, culantro (cilantro's sawtooth leaf cousin), mint, bean sprouts, hot pepper and lime. I was in heaven. I also ordered the fried spring rolls. This plate comes with six or seven freshly made spring rolls served with lettuce (used to pick up the rolls) and a tangy dipping sauce. Overall surprised by Pho Saigon (in a good way). Was not expecting this quality and quantity of pho in Bridgeport of all places. Pho tastes good. Service is abysmal: hardly a greeting, they almost glare at you whenever you ask for anything. They kept trying to clear our bowls when my friend was clearly still working on her food. But I would have forgiven everything given the price was fairly cheap and the food was okay. Our bad experience might be in part from my sister and I ordering the same entree but regardless, it was disappointing. You have to go to the counter to order, by the way. We didn't know so we waited at least 10 min before any of the staff even saw we were there. We also bought water thinking they didn't serve it (kinda dumb on our part for not asking first I guess, there wasn't anyone around to even ask ). When someone did finally come to take our order, not only was the service unfriendly, no words were spoken to us in response at all. We ordered banh xeo as an appetizer. We both got vermicelli with pork, shrimp, and spring rolls. The appetizer is not flavorful except for the dipping sauce that comes with it. It was really starchy and not fully cooked in certain parts of it. The vermicelli should have been pretty standard. My sister was served partly raw pork and she realized only later into the meal. It was pretty mediocre and it was one of those "I wish I didn't have to keep eating this" meals. We usually went to the place next door but wanted to try this place out of curiosity. This place is amazing! Super authentic and great tasting Pho and Vermicelli noodles. The Pho broth is legit, they house make their fish sauce and spring rolls. Their iced Vietnamese coffee is NEXT LEVEL, best I've ever tasted in the East Coast. This coffee is the reason why Starbucks can't break into the Vietnam Coffee Culture; cause they're so damn good at it. I bring my family here several times a month. It's a real treat. The Phò broth is very flavorful. Food comes out fairly quickly. The fresh summer rolls and spring rolls are delicious as well. The kitchen is full of older Vietnamese women. That's how I knew the broth was going to be good. Lol. The waitstaff isn't the nicest. They're slightly rude and don't really speak any English. I was a regular at this restaurant for many years but about a year ago I switched allegiances to the Vietnamese restaurant across the street!! Why???? Because Pho Saigon is completely unhygienic and unsanitary ! I once walked in at about 3.00 after the lunch crowd had subsided and I saw one of the employees giving the owner a pedicure of all things right there on the restaurant floor. It's a bit dicey, very casual and not in the best area (according to my friend). We ordered summer rolls, my friend got the pork and shrimp noodle soup and I got the seafood combo. We also ordered the vegetarian fried rice. Our noodle soups were very good. I put the chili oil in mine and it made it very spicey. The summer rolls were very fresh, however it also had tuna in it, which I've never had before - not really authentic, but it was good. The fried rice was different, but good. Very reasonable prices, the service improved later on as we dealt with personable and friendly staff after we were done with our meals They were not attentive or efficient with clearing bowls and plates off tables. A local mom and pop shop located in bridgeport.. When I first moved to the area, I was surprised at how differently Vietnamese restaurants operated here. The food at Pho Siagon is authentic and tasty. I had the rare beef pho and spring rolls. The spring rolls were amazing. The rare beef pho was prepared with very fresh vegetables , the meat was ok, the broth was perfect- not too salty and just the right temp. The little Vietnamese woman who took out order did not understand English very well- but she makes it work, and very sweet. Not the best pho I have ever had, def not the worst. Like everyone else: shady neighborhood, delicious food, clean, fresh veggies, cheap, mediocre service (no tea served to us, long wait for check/place order), minimal English. Coming from NYC and traveling to San Fran, wow, I was impressed with this corner place. We yelped nearby places during a road trip & made a side excursion here to avoid the jam packed highway for a hour or so. Really glad we did. I would say the dipping sauce has a bit more Thai/Cambo/Laos influence than true Vietnamese- spicier than normal fish sauce. And watch out for the "sriracha" bc I think they modify it to be extra spicy. My Viet go-to dish "bun cha gio" (vermicelli bed with sliced pork chops, shrimps, spring rolls, fresh lettuce & bean sprouts w peanuts) was AMAZING. Don't let the shadiness deter you. I've been to Vietnamese restaurants around the world and I can say this ranks in the bottom third of the places I've been. Let's start with the service. The three ladies there obviously didn't want to be there. Each was grumpier than the last. There was a wait and in the end it was a customer who told us to take a table. The decor is typical low end, a little dirty and slightly sticky. We even found a hair in the shrimp on steamed rice. The pho soup was above average, the soup being of high quality. Summer roll and shrimp pancake appetizers were quite good. Do not order the crispy noodle. It was made of deep fried strips of dough. Not noodles at all. The sauce was lumpy with corn starch. The bubble tea was 80% ice. To top it off their credit card machine wasn't working and if it wasn't for some found cash hidden deep inside my daughter's jacket pocket, I would have had to drive to a bank. The workers barely speak english, which is fine, and man, is the food awesome! The only thing that scared me was when they served my pho with tripe...haha. Not used to that kind of stuff.
