We came here on Friday night at 6pm. Party of three, ordered drinks from our friendly server. Appetizers of Shrimp Wraps, Calamari and Tempura Vegetables. Dinner was Dragon Roll, Pho (Rare Steak and Meatball), Chicken Pad Thai and Ramen Noodles with Chicken. The food itself was delicious and prepared perfectly. Only downside was we ordered hot tea (Jasmine tea) which they apparently ran out of and it didn't arrive until we were well onto our main courses. The friendly seemingly inexperienced staff seemed overwhelmed by the full house (had to ask for plates for appetizers, long wait tor check and to cash out) but we went with the flow and enjoyed opportunity to hang out and spend time chatting. Stopped by Pho Shobu solo to give it a try. The atmosphere was clean, welcoming, and comfortable. Shoutout to Izzy for the outstanding customer service--friendly, attentive, and professional throughout the visit. The egg rolls were the star of the meal: hot, fresh, crispy, and packed with flavor. Easily my favorite item. I ordered the Brisket Pho, and while it looked great, it was just okay for me. Having eaten pho across California, Alaska, Nevada, Arizona, and Texas, I usually look for a clean, rich broth with a slight sweetness. This broth didn't quite deliver that flavor profile, and the brisket was a little tougher and chewier than I expected. My total came to $40.03. Was it the best pho I've had? No. Was it the worst? Not even close. The atmosphere and service were excellent, and the egg rolls alone are worth ordering. I'd come back to try other items on the menu. Reasonably priced. Pho was pretty good. Lacked on noodles a bit. For $17 for a large, I expected a bit more food in the large but the taste was good. They serve alcohol which is nice. read more

Hi! I unfortunately did not have the best experience. The service was phenomenal, and the atmosphere was well decorated. I enjoyed the space for its dynamic depiction of Asian cultures and paintings. I liked the design of a bar-like area to make the restaurant stand out architecturally. This would be a nice setting for friends and family. My issue was that the food was not the best in any ethnic category. I ordered the Kim Chi Ramen, and I have a lot to say as someone from California. The egg was fully cooked, when usually it should have a gooey center like in most ramen. The pork is very pale and tastes as it looks. There is nothing significant about this dish that stands out or would make me want to return to this restaurant with confidence. I feel that the issue is that they advertise so many different dishes (pho, pad Thai, sushi, ramen) that it takes away from the dish because they do not specialize in one kind. read more

Pho for everyone! Came here as a last minute dinner spot for the whole family. Last minute at 6:30 on a Wednesday night. There were lots of people dining in. And just a couple spots open. During COVID19 review: Small shop with social distancing measures in place. All employees were masked. Patrons walking in were masked. Tables spaced out but it still seemed closer than 6ft. Patrons unmasked while seated. Ordered the 4 bowls of vegan pho, 1 bowl of shrimp pho, 1 bowl spicy ramen, egg rolls, and crab rangoons. There was something for everyone and all were content. Everything came out nice and hot. Vegan pho was light in flavor. A little on the bland. My little girls like their soups. We added tofu in their bowls. I needed to add seasonings to get better flavor. Spicy ramen kimchi soup, my husband said it tasted ok. Flavor was nice. Rangoons and egg rolls were hot and tasty. Service was friendly and great. Our total was $79.XX after gratuity. We appreciated the Fun Chop chopstick helpers for the kids. I've never seen that for other restaurants. I also appreciated the vegan option for pho. Overall it made for a ok option. We were not in the area but it seemed like the ONLY option for dine in pho during the pandemic. read more

Always a joy to come here and catch up with the Shobu family. Don't hesitate to chat with them, they are some of the kindest and friendliest people you can meet. Ordered our favorites, the calamari, khao-poon, and La's Dragon roll. I love that their khao poon is versatile in which you can season to your own taste. We always ask for sugar and fish sauce on the side, add extra chili oil and it's delish! Ingredients are always clean and so so fresh. We've never had to worry about quality. Other favorites we enjoy getting frequently are the banh mi and oxtail pho. Our waitress was excellent the entire time from start to finish. I stopped here for lunch while working out west. The restaurant is very beautiful inside and looks bigger inside than outside. I was seated quickly and the server was very attentive. I spent 20+ years in SoCal married into a Vietnamese family. I know my Pho. Pho Shobu is good Pho. I have eating there several times. I enjoy both the chicken and meatball Pho. Pho is all about the broth. Once the weather cools down here I highly recommend you enjoy a bowl of Pho here. I promise you'll enjoy it. Went to dinner here the other night with my husband, cousin and her wife. Was greeted right away by a young lady who told us we could sit where ever we'd like. It wasn't too busy yet it was 530pm when we got there. Everywhere I see they have Thai tea I always make sure to try it. The Thai tea is really good as per usual. It's just black Thai sweetened tea with creamer. Definitely gives a little boost of energy for after your meal. I ordered the yellow curry. That's one of my favorite it has potatoes carrots and is very flavorful as it was here. I added a level 3 spice and it was just the right amount of spice for me since I like spicy. I didn't think I was going to finish it but it was just that good. My husband had the seafood Pho which he definitely enjoyed. Overall we had a great experience. After the food was served the waitress came by to check on us and then after we were done she came back again to make sure we were finished. The service was great. Nothing. I waited 40 mins for takeout of a noodle dish and gyoza. It wasn't until I have a look to the server to remind I was still waiting. Then she tells me the system is down and orders are taking longer. Goes in the back and I hear her say, "Where's the gyoza?" Comes out, puts it into the register then goes back to the kitchen. I went recently to the restaurant with the first large group that I've been involved with since covid-19. All of us were a little older and have been vaccinated so was kind of fun to get together and I will say there are several people in the group that are restaurant owners and all of them are connoisseurs of Asian food (see the photo). People had Pho, some sushi rolls and some Hawaiian style poke in Bun.... I have to say in terms of a small restaurant they have one of the most extensive menus I've ever seen and certainly one of the most extensive Bun menus I've ever seen. I had a combination that included grilled chicken and you could really tell it was grilled chicken it had grill marks and it also was hot it also included steak which was good the sauce and everything else about the bun was traditional and delicious. My friends who had the foe said that they really enjoyed the soup and noodles. The sushi rolls in the tempura appetizers were a big hit with everyone. It's well worth a trip from anybody in a nearby area and anybody that has to drive a little for a nice evening out. Make sure you check their hours so you don't go too late I think they're a little reduced until they feel like they're getting into the swing of things. read more

Noticed it while driving by, I was hungry so I figured why not. Was greated right away and sat down at the bar. The decor was nice and I liked the colors, this place isn't too big so I wouldn't suggest going here with a large group. Of course I had to try the Pho, the place is named after it after all. I ordered a large number 1 with egg noodles instead of rice noodles. It was pretty good, but I think my noodles were just a little over cooked. Overall I enjoyed my Pho, but next time I am in the mood for Pho I will probably go to one of my favorite Pho restaurants. Went there with my family, the service was great and the food was great too! The papaya salad is amazing! We asked for sticky rice with it but they didn't have it and instead the waiter gave use some rice noodles for it. That's great service right there. When the food came out the pho was tasty, but the soup was luke warm. It would've been better if the soup was piping hot and steamy. Overall it was good. ---------- Went to Pho Shobu again by only with my fiancé and myself. The service was okay, but the food was not as good as the previous time I had it. The papaya salad was still good, however they again did not have sticky rice, the waiter suggested steam rice, which was okay, just not as great for papaya salad. When our pho came out the soup was again not steaming hot, it was warm but not even steamy. The broth was not as tasty either and the noodles were not tender, so was not cooked properly. Another point is that for 2 people they skimped out on the vegetables for the pho (as seen I'm attached photo), there was barely any basil and the littlest wedges of limes ever for pho. Overall this encounter was not good and would probably try this place again to better determine if it's worth it. read more

Their service were really slow tho, and was disappointed with their springroll as it is suppose to be serve with peanutbutter sauce and not sweet and sour sauce. I genuinely don't understand why this place isn't more popular! Vietnamese is one of favorite cuisines and this place never disappoints. The only reason I am giving 4 instead of 5 stars is because I have only gotten takeout and can't speak to the service. However they are always super helpful, friendly and timely when I do order food. The Pho has a ton of flavor and comes with a lot of yummies. When I want something fresh I get the Bun vermicelli bowls and although a very generous portion, I always more because of or refreshing and flavorful it is. First visit today for lunch. This place is very nice and clean, and very friendly staff. I ordered spring rolls and the steak and brisket pho. Spring rolls were very fresh, but a little in the bland side. I prefer to have them made with a good smoked pork instead of the shrimp. The sauce for them was good, but not really a traditional peanut sauce. It actually reminded me more of a very tangy sweet and sour sauce with peanuts on it. The pho came out quickly and was a decent sized bowl. I added my typical chili oil, hoisin, and a little soy sauce, as well as the standard fresh garnishes they bring out, and the flavor was very good. However, I did find out that their chili oil is extremely hot...which isnt a bad thing, I just should have done a little taste test before I got aggressive with it. Overall, this is pretty good pho, although I wont say it is the best in the metro. The decor is likely the nicest of all the pho places, and service is great. The reason I can only give it the 3 stars is the price. Definitely the most expensive pho restaurant I have visited in the metro. read more

I was really surprised that the pho was really good. The staff were really friendly. The place was pretty much clean. I like that they had a full bar and a lounging area for people to sit back and relax and enjoy the food. Overall I had a great experience at this restaurant and I hope to come back soon. I have had Pho Shobu in three instances now (delivery, pick-up, and at the restaurant). I've had their laab, sushi, and pho. The laab was delivered, it lacked in flavor and they skimped on the rice. The time we ate at the restaurant, we didn't receive our entire order. We asked about it an hour later (they appeared busy, Friday evening), they completely forgot about it. We paid before receiving the last entree. The sushi is decent. Their pho is horrendous. I would not recommend it to anyone. Initially, the traditional aromatic smells can be detected. But, that's it. After tasting the broth, it's clear that they couldn't get the pho broth correctly so they dumped a TON of salt into the soup to overcompensate. I hope they figure out their pho broth considering "Pho" is in their name. read more

I am giving this place about 2-1/2 stars. I had the Pho with brisket and top round along with the spring rolls. The spring roll was ok, fresh ingredients but lacked flavor. I would also pass on the chili sauce, the combo with the spring rolls didn't work for me. The pho was also a bit disappointing. The broth had good flavor but it was oily and I also told the server to make sure they gave me the top round raw on top of the soup. But unfortunately I got overcooked meat. I will try this place again for their thai and sushi, but I just cannot recommend the pho. read more

The vegetable pho had hardly any vegetables. It was mostly broth and noodles. Service was fine

This was our first time here. We tried the calamari, Drunken noodles, fried rice to share, and pad Thai. Calamari was hot and yummy. Rest of the food came after a bit of a wait. Drunken noodles were ordered with scallops but they asked if lobster was ok (they said the shipments were different due to the holiday, which was ok). Fried rice was loaded with vegetables, a lot more than you normally see. Pad Thai with chicken was also great. Waiter Travis was attentive and helpful. My only fault here was that the bartender was entertaining a couple at the bar and was VERY loud, giving away drinks, and you could tell the couple wasn't very interested but were being nice. Definitely a pet peeve of mine when bartenders drink, and he was trying to get the other employees to drink also, wasn't watching close enough to see if they did, but heard the bartender the whole night. read more

It was the best day ever... La from Hoshi Sushi is now the sushi guy at this place. La is my favorite sushi guy in town... if you want the best sushi in Des Moines ur quite possibly in the Midwest this is your place I promise. The sushi menu was large and we tried the Tuna Poke and it was Devine. We had gyoza, edamame, Pho and Bun. All of it was spectacular. The decor was minimalistic and the service was great.
