And not the most traditional either (reffed to the photo). I found the broth to be a little bland if I'm honest. Continuing with my Asian District project to try all the little restaurants, this day we came a little further up Classen to try Pho Thai Nguyen. Hubby got pho, and I tried Bun Oc (rice noodles w/ snail), just to break the mundane a little. His pho was great, flavorful yet balanced, savory with a hint of sweetness, the meat cuts were fresh and tasty. No fault at all, I'd say it'll be one of my top picks in the area. I'd give 4.5 stars for the pho! The Bun Oc had a tomato based broth, light and tasty. The bowl is huge, it's the same as the "large" size pho. The meats and proteins inside were a-plenty. Unfortunately I did not like the chewy snail, it did not taste fresh, likely canned or previously frozen, but there were soooo many snails. Generous for sure, but wish it was some other kind of protein instead. I would not get this dish again, but I look forward to trying other items on the menu! I hear they have a buffet too, but at least we did not see one over the weekend. I'll be coming back to try more of their menu, just no more snails, my adventurous spirit let me down this time. Another Gem of a pho place. Delivers all the pho goodness that you would expect from a legit vietnamese place. Located in asia town they serve up delicious bowls of pho for reasonable prices. The broth comes out super hot, the flanks of steak are thinly sliced and delicious. You get a nice sizeable portion for the price you pay. In addition the classic summer shrimp rolls were very fresh. The shrimp, vermicelli and mint was aromatic and the roll was light and so good when dipped in that peanut sauce. They offer a slew of bubble teas. I haven't tried any of the bubble teas but next time I will. The rice dishes look yummy too and a must try next time I am back in town. Great service, clean and roomy. Hands down the best authentic and most flavorful Vietnamese food in Oklahoma City. The people here are so genuinely friendly they leave you wanting to come back for more. The cooking is as best as it gets. I love the combination egg noodles served dry with broth on the side. The bowl contains fresh large shrimp, quail eggs, bbq pork, veggie, chock full of delicious goodies. I live for the fresh spring rolls here ( they do it right ) with its amazing hoisin sauce. The Vietnamese eggs rolls are a must, flaky, crispy and delicious. The ambience is relaxed, causal and not stuffy. P.S the PHO here is absolutely top notch and so good. Lamentably typical of a once-great venue now in its death-throes. While they used to be open six days a week, this former hidden gem of the OKC Asian district now seems only to be open on Saturdays, and the once-affordable menu has become ridiculously pricey to compensate for their not remaining regularly open, despite former Covid restrictions being lifted. In addition, there are redactions of dishes they used to serve, and whole pages are just blank. The actual fare is still well prepared enough, but portion sizes have reduced, becoming meager for the price asked. Also, 90 percent of the lights are just out or not working, lending an ominous air to the once endearing super-kitschy Vietnamese music trax playing on the big screen TV, and the jarring exclamations of old Asian men playing Mah Jong. We've been happy to visit this restaurant for nearly 20 years, and it was a little heartbreaking to me to realize our recent meal there would be our last. I was disappointed that the vegetables for the pho was obvious not not fresh. When I ask for fresh they told me this was all they had and it was delivered this morning. If you accept produce in this condition they will continue to dump this on you. If this were my restaurant I would have not taken it had they given it to me. There was no BBQ flavor, or much of any flavor detected from the chicken. The plain white rice tasted like... Plain white rice. The broccoli tasted like broccoli. HANDS DOWN THE BEST PHO IN OKLAHOMA. They have great meals and the best Pho. Their prices are absolutely amazing. I always eat Pho when I get a bad sinus infection or a bad cold. Since moving here I've had way too many sinus infections. But this helps clear out my sinuses, I like it super spicy, and it soothes my throat at the same time. **regarding $7.99 buffet** I cannot comment on the pho at Pho Thai Nguyen, as I haven't eaten it in at least 4 years. However, today my mom brought us here because the wait at another nearby eatery was packed. I was bummed out upon entering because I wasn't craving an Asian buffet, but my goodness -- this place FAR exceeded expectations for $7.99. The buffet isn't your typical greasy Americanized Asian buffet, but rather seems to lighter fusion-styled Vietnamese, Thai, and Chinese options. There weren't an abundances of options compared to most traditional American buffets, but there surely were a good number of meat & curry options, as well as shrimp/spring roll/stew/fish options. The meat in the stewed dishes was so incredibly tender -- falling off the bone kinda tender. Really, each dish I tried also had the perfect amount of spices...ugh, my mouth is watering as I write this -- ha! The waitress mentioned that the $7.99 buffet has been offered for around 6-7 months -- it didn't seem like many people were eating the buffet aside from the waitresses/waiters who worked at the location. Granted, 5 stars is a lot, but goodness I was so in love with the food. I'll have to come back once more to see if it continues to exceed expectations. Alrighty, I ordered Hu Tieu Nam Vang and I must say that the flavor was excellent. I wasn't impressed with the cilantro and basil plate, because there was no basil, just lettuce (ugh!). Oh, and I did see basil on the owner's (or other employee's) plate. But oh my, the broth was amazing. But there were no quail eggs. The menu says there are, but alas, no quail eggs. In college, I once shared a garage with two Vietnamese twins, one of them named Thien Nguyen, and the other named Thai Nguyen. I also had a crazy Vietnamese ex who I somehow ended up living with for an extended period of time, but we'll save that story for another day. Anyway, Thai Nguyen was your average Vietnamese Starcraft II genius majoring in some sort of research intensive science at my alma mater; he was also the type who frequently went back home and brought back fresh batches of home-stewed pho broth from which we used to make bowls upon bowls of delicious pho by garnishing it with fresh noodles bought from the Asian markets in Millpitas' Barber Lane (a.k.a. China Square) and tender chicken meat stripped off from freshly boiled salted Chicken we made from the "noodle broth" left over from the fresh noodles. That being said, when I was looking up local Vietnamese joints during my short stay in OKC, and this yelp page popped up, I could have sworn that some higher entity was commanding me to visit this place; it was named after one of my best friends from college AND it had a 4.5 star rating, so I figured I had nothing to lose. So it breaks my heart to report that Pho Thai Nguyen does not meet my pho standards, which were set by the ironically eponymous Thai Nguyen; I ordered the namesake dish of the restaurant which is pretty much their take on the Pho Dac Biet and found myself intermittently disappointed; to reduce cooking times for the broth and add a subtle sweetness to the pho broth, Thai Nguyen (my friend) would add pineapple to the broth as he was stewing the chicken/beef bones for many hours -- a tip Pho Thai Nguyen could probably learn from, seeing as how I had to dump half a bowl of jalapenos and two generous spoonfuls of hoisin sauce to garner a satisfactory flavor from the soup. I'll probably give this place another try the next time I'm in OKC, but for now, this pho fanatic remains unimpressed. read more

I ordered two items to go P3-Rare Steak/Pho Tai and Beef Fried Rice for a total of $15.50. This was my first time eating here, but I had high hopes based on the reviews. I was quite surprised when I got home and unpacked my food and realized the steak was rare and uncooked, wrapped up and placed on top of the noodles. I guess I hadn't thought about how it would be prepared since it would be to go-and now I know. Since the broth wasn't going to be hot enough to cook the steak I put it in a pan real quick before adding it to the broth. After getting past the initial shock of raw meat on top of the noodles, I was able to really enjoy the pho. It was flavorful and delicious. Exactly what I was hoping for! I really enjoy this place. I am not a big fan of their pho because they leave the bones in the chicken, which I am told is how they do it in Vietnam but it just takes some work to eat it. The pork vermicelli with fish sauce is amazing. However my absolute favorite is the Canh Chu Ca. This is a sweet and sour fish soup. It has fish, shrimp, tomatoes, pineapple, bac ha, okra, bean sprouts and the most delicious broth ever!! This is like heaven to your taste buds. I could just drink he broth by itself. I can't believe my last experience. My boyfriend and I went for some pho here mid-August. It had been a while since my last trip. Despite this minor detail, I voted for them for 'Best Pho' for Readers Choice for the Gazette for 2014. I wouldn't now. We had checked their hours before heading there, but still, we weren't aware that they closed between lunch and dinner. We entered at 2:50, ordered at 2:55, had the music turned off at 3, and then the lights went out on us at 3:10. NO ONE said anything about closing up soon or we would have gone somewhere else. On top of the lights being turned out on us, the peanut sauce was weird, the prices were higher, and when she asked if I wanted a take out box (only half way through finishing) she added that they were .75/box. I won't be back for quite a while. I'm very disappointed, Pho Thai Nguyen. I'll fondly think of all the times I came in and dream of when you'll go back to your awesome ways. read more

This is my go-to place for delicious pho. I crave the noodle soup throughout the seasons and come here at least once a month. The rare steak pho is my favorite but I also love the "BBQ chicken" soup with egg noodles, which comes with pieces of fried chicken, baby bok choy, and lots of fried garlic swimming in a rich, flavorful broth. The staff are very friendly and accommodating when I ask for extra broth for my pho. The Thai iced tea is super delicious and a good treat on a hot summer day when you need a jolt to get you through the day. I've been coming here since college very regularly and it has never once lost its reputation of my favorite bowl of soup. The food is plain and simple perfection. The prices are great. What really makes this place the greatest is the staff. Kim has waited on us for a long time and she legitimately is the friendliest waitress and gives the best service. I always hear her talking to her other tables exactly how she talks to my family-- happy to see them, order usually committed to memory, and genuinely glad to see you. She is the best. Everyone else here is friendly and accommodating and I love the way the staff interacts with each other. There are usually cute kiddos running around and a lot of laughter. The waitresses are knowledgeable about their food and makes good suggestions if you dont know what to order due to the abundant amount of items they have on their menu. The waitresses lack english a bit, but will do their best to communicate with you. Their beef stew is the best. The beef is tender. The broth is flavorful. Nothing is needed to be add to the broth. Their hot pot is good. It is not like chinese/japanese hot pot but the broth is very flavorful. I have been here multiple times and the food and service has been very consistent. Most of the pho places in this area don't have the service, cleanliness, or quality that this place has.... First, the table is stocked with condiments. You have everything you need. The chili sauce is everything I've been missing. So many places don't have this on the table or serve you a store bought brand. The food was excellent. Well priced, not overly filling, and easy to customize. The service was fantastic and friendly. This is a great place to get all kinds of Vietnamese food. Some restaurants specialize only in pho and other noodle soups. Another place may only do com phan (family style meals) or banh mi only. This place has everything you want in Vietnamese food. I tend to gravitate towards com phan dishes when I come here. The water spinach stir fried in garlic and salt and pepper shrimp are their best dishes. Feel free to substitute your white rice with their tomato rice. The tomato paste adds a nice touch to boring white rice. The staff is super friendly and it's great for big parties. Don't expect much in the simple decor as it needs some serious updating.
