    NOT Hawaii Guy
    Matt D.

I finally decided to see what remains of our beloved Canton restaurant. Sadly, the only thing this restaurant has in common with the 5 star restaurant that was there for over 40 years is the location and the name. I'm attaching a picture of their sweet and sour chicken. For anyone who remembers the Hawaii Guy, you'll know this is not in the same universe. I looked on the menu for the pork fried rice and it's no longer offered. When they sold this place to the new owner, recipes were not included. I ordered water to keep lunch cost reasonable and received a bottle of water over a glass of ice that I was charged for. It seems empty, dark, and dirty. I reached for soy sauce and my hand stuck to the glass. Filthy. Door to enter was grimy. Asked for hot mustard and received two packets of hot dog mustard. From 5 stars to 1. Don't even bother. You're welcome.

I used to eat here years ago...it's been a long time. My sister told me I need to try it. So, I did, and I wasn't disappointed. First, they are so friendly and kind! Very helpful and welcoming! Let me start by saying I am weird about meat. They have the best meat at a Chinese restaurant I have had. The Hawaiian chicken is all white meat, it's real white meat. It is fried perfectly crispy. I can't really explain, except say, you need to try it. You may need to order a second side of rice, I do feel the the rice was a small amount. I do t think anything has changed in here since I was a kid. It's kind of dark, same booths. I picked up to go, so can't say much about eating in, but it's great to go. They are fast, friendly, and you should try it soon! Yummy!

    Lo Mein - Beef

Decided to try this place out as it came recommended. We ordered our usual entrees-- broccoli beef, sesame chicken, wonton soup, and egg rolls. Overall the restaurant seems like a little hole in a wall and definitely was busy. Unfortunately, the food wasn't so great. The noodles in the wonton soup had an odd texture like they had been flash fried. The broth had very little flavor and lacked any seasoning. The egg rolls were tasty however I have had much more flavorful rolls elsewhere. The egg fried rice was cooked nicely, but again was missing seasoning. The broccoli beef was tough and had a weird after taste to it. We ordered the Beef Lo Mein, but what was delivered was like a veggie lo mein with a couple strips of tough beef. The plate had a ton of cabbage! So much that it seemed more like a cabbage dish than a noodle dish. The only reason I'm giving this place 3/5 stars is because of the sesame chicken! It was the right proportion of chicken to crispy batter and the sauce was fantastic! I wish the rest of the food was tasty!

    Rangoons and egg roll

First time eating here but I'm a Yelper so I gave it a try. Not much to look at from the outside but these dive/hole in the walls are my jam. I walked in and was the only person there at noon. A little concerned but I carried on. Inside kind of matched the outside. Nothing fancy and eerily quiet since I was the only person. Got an egg roll and rangoons. Nice and crispy on both and freshly made. Super good. If you like spicy mustard, theirs will clean your sinuses right up. Had the beef hunan and perfect spice. Fried rice was moist and fluffy. By the time I left, a few other tables had come in also. This time s a hidden gem. Give it a try.

They've got the roast meats, a large Chinese dinner menu, an equally large Vietnamese dinner menu, catering for events, and my favorite: their dimsum menu. For their regular menu, my family and I will frequently order to go and occasionally dine in. We often order off the Chinese menu when we're going family style (flat noodles, salt & pepper squid, egg noodle lo mein, and scallion chicken are some of our favorites), and we will order from the Viet menu for individual portions (we love their egg noodle soups, pho, broken rice platters). One of my favorite dishes is their lotus root summer salad, and I've not found another place that beats that dish here! I've found their service with regular dining in to be hit or miss. Most of the time we get great service but a few times here and there we have a hard time finding our server. Moving on to my favorite part of Golden Phoenix- the dimsum. They serve dimsum primarily on the weekends from opening to 3pm (I think), and they have really brought up the OKC dimsum game with their large and delicious dimsum menu! Their dumplings like the hargow and shiumai are large, filling, and delicious! I particularly love the fried shrimp and chives dumpling and their shrimp egg rolls. The service during dimsum is fantastic because they've got people pushing around carts and carrying plates of food out to you. Once you're ready for dessert, make sure you grab some egg tarts for the table!

I looked at the reviews and everything told me they are as good as they claim, without being "Breaking The Bank Account." The online services are good. Ordered meals for a robust two person dinner for home, because we just wanted to eat at home after a long busy day at work. Nothing fancy, just a comfort meal in bed while watching a Rom-com Movie and enjoying our beautiful dinner. I for one absolutely LOVE Curry Chicken over white rice. The recipe and portions are perfect. So anything you order should be a "Home Run" meal from Grand China! I grew up being able to eat The Original "Jackson Street" San Francisco China Town Center Chinese Food Restaurants. History: San Francisco China Town is the original destination for Millions of Chinese Immigrants who came to America directly from China to work on The Trans-Continental Railroad in the early 19th Century. If you ever watched Bruce Lee's Movies, he shows you a lot about SF China Town's history. Point being, SF China Town set the food quality benchmark ever since they arrived to provide labor for the railroads buildup across America in the early 19th Century. Grand China exceeds that SF China Town Benchmark and you won't be disappointed. Good Day

Normally, as I stated, I only get chicken from a place that gives me chunks of fried or battered chicken. I made the mistake of getting Kung Pao chicken from Grand China. How anyone could stomach this is beyond me. It was horrible. No flavor, no spice. Way too many peanuts and vegetables. I had to leave this review. Luckiky I also got my normal Sezchuan Pork so at least I have something to eat. Never again will I get chicken from here. Honestly, I have no idea how many of you eat chicken from Chinese restaurants. It's disgusting.
