After reading some reviews, I decided to give Canton Restaurant a try. Overall, it's no different than many other Chinese restaurants nearby. The positives: 1) Canto gives you a lot of food. The dinner for one is a really great deal. It comes with egg drop soup, egg roll, scoop of fried rice, chicken fritters chicken, and chicken chow mein. 2) The service was really good at Canto. It's not too busy and the server will talk to you, friendly personality. The negatives: 1) It's really dark inside like a steakhouse. 2) The food taste no differently than any other Chinese restaurants. The best item was the chicken fritters. Everything else was average. This was a pretty cheap eat. I could not finish in one seating and took leftovers for dinner. Overall, about 3.5 stars. read more

I finally decided to see what remains of our beloved Canton restaurant. Sadly, the only thing this restaurant has in common with the 5 star restaurant that was there for over 40 years is the location and the name. I'm attaching a picture of their sweet and sour chicken. For anyone who remembers the Hawaii Guy, you'll know this is not in the same universe. I looked on the menu for the pork fried rice and it's no longer offered. When they sold this place to the new owner, recipes were not included. I ordered water to keep lunch cost reasonable and received a bottle of water over a glass of ice that I was charged for. It seems empty, dark, and dirty. I reached for soy sauce and my hand stuck to the glass. Filthy. Door to enter was grimy. Asked for hot mustard and received two packets of hot dog mustard. The Hawaii Guy (sweet & sour chicken) is the best I think I've ever had and not covered in way too much unnecessary batter like all the other places. The Chicken Low Mein is good too. Great "fresh" egg rolls as well, other places seem to precook their egg roles, you can tell because they're not crunchy and just warm. Not at Canton, they cook them to order and they're very hot and crunchy like they should be. The soup is hot (as it should be) and not just warm like a lot of other places. The people who took it over from the original owners pretty much kept it the same. The place could use some updates and some background music but it serves its purpose just fine. I used to eat here years ago...it's been a long time. My sister told me I need to try it. So, I did, and I wasn't disappointed. First, they are so friendly and kind! Very helpful and welcoming! Let me start by saying I am weird about meat. They have the best meat at a Chinese restaurant I have had. The Hawaiian chicken is all white meat, it's real white meat. It is fried perfectly crispy. I can't really explain, except say, you need to try it. You may need to order a second side of rice, I do feel the the rice was a small amount. I do t think anything has changed in here since I was a kid. It's kind of dark, same booths. I picked up to go, so can't say much about eating in, but it's great to go. Decided to try this place out as it came recommended. We ordered our usual entrees-- broccoli beef, sesame chicken, wonton soup, and egg rolls. Overall the restaurant seems like a little hole in a wall and definitely was busy. Unfortunately, the food wasn't so great. The noodles in the wonton soup had an odd texture like they had been flash fried. The broth had very little flavor and lacked any seasoning. The egg rolls were tasty however I have had much more flavorful rolls elsewhere. The egg fried rice was cooked nicely, but again was missing seasoning. The broccoli beef was tough and had a weird after taste to it. We ordered the Beef Lo Mein, but what was delivered was like a veggie lo mein with a couple strips of tough beef. The plate had a ton of cabbage! So much that it seemed more like a cabbage dish than a noodle dish. The only reason I'm giving this place 3/5 stars is because of the sesame chicken! First time eating here but I'm a Yelper so I gave it a try. Not much to look at from the outside but these dive/hole in the walls are my jam. I walked in and was the only person there at noon. A little concerned but I carried on. Inside kind of matched the outside. Nothing fancy and eerily quiet since I was the only person. Got an egg roll and rangoons. Nice and crispy on both and freshly made. Super good. If you like spicy mustard, theirs will clean your sinuses right up. Had the beef hunan and perfect spice. Fried rice was moist and fluffy. By the time I left, a few other tables had come in also. This time s a hidden gem. Give it a try. read more

I checked out a lot of Chinese food restaurants on Yelp and Google before choosing this one. We had one single day in OKC, so we wanted to make sure we got the best AFFORDABLE lunch we could. Of course, places like Pei Wei are good, but they are too expensive, and we always prefer to eat at independent restaurants, not chains, when possible. That said, the food was fine, but not any better than local take-out places we patronize in our home town. Too bad, because we were hoping to find a go-to place in OKC for the 2-3 times we visit each year. We had the egg rolls, egg drop soup, Hawaiian Guy (sweet and sour chicken with pineapple), chicken chow mein and pepper beef. All acceptable, but nothing special. I am shaken to my core. Never have I had such a riveting experience in a restaurant. The sesame chicken is a typical dish for most Chinese restaurants, but this was out of the ordinary. The sweet sauce complimented by a hint of chili spice topped with sesame seeds all while complimenting the crisp crunch of the freshly made chicken. I thought my wait for my food was a bit long until I realized what I was eating. It was art. But not just any art, a masterpiece. Every bite like a storm of rain falling all around you without getting wet. Like jumping chest first down a waterfall but never worrying about hitting the bottom. Free of any burden and simply living in the moment you are given. Some days are like others filled with monotony and are lackluster, but today I walked away from my meal with a twinkle in my eye and a pep in my step. I walked away better than I was before, all thanks to this blessed sesame chicken. I write this message with urgency and truth, may everyone feel as though I have eating from this amazing restaurant. Hard to find great Chinese food that's convenient to get. Friend told us about here. A must were the egg rolls (real peanut butter) and the Hawaii Guy. Egg rolls were fabulous! Didn't order the HG.....this time. Had egg drop and wonton soup, garlic chicken and Hal Gal Kew and ALL just awesome. Next time maybe the HG, maybe not. Cantons has been around forever! I love their egg rolls more than anywhere else although jack in the box (yes I said jack In the box) comes in up there with canton egg roles. This is the best Chinese food I've ever had!! The best egg rolls, the filling is cooked completely throughout and the wrap is crunchy! All homemade! I always get the Hawaii guy (kinda like sweet n sour) and shrimp fried rice. The Hawaii guy sauce and the sweet n sour for the egg rolls is homemade as well, you won't find this this sauce anywhere else and it's amazing. I also love the garlic chicken and egg drop soup! My favorite Chinese-American restaurant is Mandarin in Del City. The point of that is: This is the closest place I've been to in the OKC area where I live that is similar to Mandarin. Not exactly, but fairly close. They actually fritter their garlic chicken instead of drowning it in sauce. I just... thank you. I may not order it on its own unless I was really craving an eggroll but it's not bad at all. -Sweet & Sour Pork 4/5: So crispy and tender! The sauce is great. None of that yellow chicken with pink sweet and sour. There are already pictures of it on this page, so refer to there. Egg Fried Rice 3/5: Not my favorite rice. It was improved with just a bit of the sweet and sour sauce from my pork, though. I live everything's here, From the sweet family that runs it all the way to the best chicken chow mien and sweet and sour chicken you will probably ever have! The sauces are homemade, not canned. Best Chinese food in Oklahoma. The egg rolls are addictive, the sweet and sour pork is old-school Oklahoma City style, and the soups and main dishes are superb. This is a family-run, 1970s OKC Chinese restaurant. There were several like it (August Moon, Ouy Lin, Ding Ho, Chiam), and this is the last one. If you grew up in OKC in the 70s and 80s, this place will take you back in time, in a good way. It's a bit of a hole in the wall, but it's clean, friendly, and delicious. We were looking for a different place to order takeout Chinese food. Saw this on yelp and decided to give it a try. Nice flavor to egg drop soup. Very light. Egg roll was very crispy and the sauce for egg roll was wonderful. Not a super sweet red sauce. Chicken sweet and sour was a pleasant taste. Real chicken was obviously used!
