Great service and amazing food. Immediately sat and had beverages/starters going while we looked at the menu. Our food came out quickly and fresh. Even the fries at this place were top shelf. I ordered Grilled Shrimp spring rolls, came out GREAT, everything inside was portioned just right, and tasted phenomenal. We had the Lumpia's as well, came out fresh with fresh veggies as well. As a former employee, I wanted to give a sort of customer-employee review. I have no ill will towards the business, so I trust the reader will find me genuine. Firstly, Pho Tre Bien on Gateway was the place I always took friends to for a super random cool place to go to in high school for Prom or Homecoming. The gateway location is definitely an enchanting venue. COVID19 halted my college experience, so I moved back home looking for a job. Naturally, I thought of the best spots in town. Pho Tre Bien was the place for me. New locations popped up post-high school, and I was delighted to work at the somewhat "new" cafe. Very cute modern American cafe style restaurant, with relatively the same menu as the flagship location. Secondly, I worked at multiple locations, and I can attest that the consistency in cooking and recipe standards are top notch. A lot of the VIPs (the OG cooks) move around as well, and it helps make all of the locations feel the same, regardless of location. The restaurant is authentic and family based. Onto the food... I genuinely can say I love everything on the menu. Some more than others; I like meat more than veggies so I like the Lumpias more than the Spring Rolls, but they do genuinely make me question my hatred for lettuce sometimes. But hey, the grilled shrimp spring rolls are calling your name if you like the veggies! Pho is the common place for most, especially new customers, but I recommend the Steak and Eggs, or any skillet plate (just ask the server and they will know). They smell SO good and are matched with taste. The bread is baked in house. Speaking of bread, the Banh Mi are amazing I recommend the Special. Lemongrass ANYTHING is a win. Do not be scared of the Crispy Noodles, and if you are, the Soft Noodles will win you over. The Pho is tasty and bold. My personal favorite is the Rare Steak and Brisket, or the Yellow Noodle with Shrimp and Pork. I'm not much of a tripe fan, but I tried the Combination, and was pleasantly surprised. Surprisingly good! When we drove by Pho Tre Bien it actually looks closed or it is just opening up but once you get inside it's super nice and inviting. I got the sampler start plate and it's was super great. So good I forgot to take a picture of it before I started to eat it. I got the spicy beef soup for my meal and the noodles were nice and soft and the beef was succulent but firm at the same time. I love Pho, so I wad extremely excited to try this place. I was sadly disappointed in the overall service. It took close to 20 minutes for us to be acknowledged. A couple that was seated 10min after us were served and received their food long before our waiter even arrived. The table next to me had been waiting a very long time for their appetizer. Ordered fresh spring rolls and pho. Who ever made the rolls, had perfume or lotion on. Every bite tasted like what ever they used. It was disgusting. The pho, the meatballs were undercooked! The service here can be hit or miss though. During COVID-19 they are truly trying their best. The wait times can be extensive though, I've waited 45 min to an hour for my order before. Being in the military I have spent some time in Asia. Okinawa, Korea, and the Philippines. Needless to say, I love the food of the culture. The decor did not disappoint, with a plain cube of a building opening up to a warm and inviting space with subway tiles on the wall and retro lighting. The looks, however are the high point of the place. Coming on a Sunday night, the place was only half full but since we just wanted dessert, we sat at the bar where we intended to order coffee and dessert. After waiting 20 mins, the bartender finally caught a break to take our order. When we got to the coffee however, we were told that she was just a server and didn't actually know how to use any of the machines.changed our order to to-go and still waited another good 20 mins we finally got our order, paid, and left. Again, I ordered the seafood Pho and it was outstanding! Just the right amount of fresh vegetables to put into the soup, and all the seafood in the soup was fresh and delicious. If there had been bread, I would have slurped up all the broth that might have remained in the bowl. As it was, I just picked up the bowl and slurped away. Yummy.
