It was a mistake to order beef stew with bread, the size of bread looks large enough but it just does carry any weight. I did not feel that I had anything after I finished one bread, and I want to order one more but was told it run out of order already. I am a female, and I usually do not eat much starch anyway. Honestly, the best pho I've ever had and I've gone to MANY Vietnamese + pho restaurants. The owner is really sweet, so I'm not sure why the others are saying the customer service sucks. She's a quite lady, but always greets us because we are regulars. The other staff who brings out the food doesn't say much, but who are we to judge on the language barrier. Pho Viet represents some of the most delicious food in Hilo and easily the best Pho. All of their Pho is amazingly flavorful and comes with a whole plate of fresh herbs, bean sprouts and other condiments so you can spice it up however you like. That little bowl of garlic chili oil that they bring to your table is seriously god-like. Their beef stew with bread is also extremely flavorful and delicious. I have eaten pho everywhere it is served in hilo (hilo rice noodle, new saigon, coquis etc.) but this place is clearly a head above the rest in terms of flavor. Best pho i have had in my life, also backed up by my brother in the bay area who eats pho 2-3 times a week. The secret is the chili garlic sauce it is homemade and compliments the pho . Thank to reviews on Yelp, we walked into a very nice, clean, and friendly restaurant, Pho Viet, in Hilo. The restaurant is nicely decorated with fresh orchid plant on each table. The place is bright and very clean. You won't feel greasy touching table surface like in other Asian restaurants. Being the Vietnamese, we have "pho" in our blood and we still say that Pho Viet the BEST so far. The "pho bo" (beef pho) comes in many flavors of beef. The broth is perfectly seasoned with nice fragrant. The rice noodles are done just right. Same thing can be said for "pho ga" (chicken pho). Each order of pho comes with a side dish of fresh, clean bean sprouts, basil, lime wedges, and slices of jalapeno. Except for bean sprouts, other vegetables are organic. There's another great menu item is "bo kho" (Vietnamese spicy beef stew) which is served with French bread or rice noodles. The beef and tendon are cut into small pieces are perfectly cooked. The sauce is flavorful with fragrant of cinnamon and star anise. This dish is delicious. Another great thing about this restaurant is the price. All menu items are less than $8.00. This is a family owned and operated restaurant. Service is very friendly and fast. They are closed on Sunday and Wednesday. Finding the place is a little bit tricky. If you have a GPS, it wouldn't be a problem getting to it. We, a group of eight tourists, were on the island for only a week (in April 2012) and ate there four times. Just like everyone else said, come here for the pho. It is called "Pho Viet" so I do not order anything else from here. Stick to what they do best--and it is at least the best pho on the east side for sure. The lady there makes her own chili garlic oil, and it is unreal. Be sure to add that in for some heat--forget the sirracha. I actually love the vegetable pho when I need something refreshing. It has some nice thin cut mushrooms in there that I love, so this is my go-to to degrease the pipes after I go on one of my week long junk food eating binges. Hungering for noodles while rambling the streets of Hilo, every antique shop was calling to me. The shops are small and full of very unusual treasures. We walked through one and were told to go to Pho Viet through the back way. We went out the back of the antique shop past a beautiful kink tailed grey cat and his white chicken friend toward this restaurant. We decided to walk a bit more to gain an appetite. A small elderly dog met us at the corner and walked us up toward a military surplus store where my BF sold a gold ring he found while snorkeling at a black sand beach. We mentioned we were going to eat at Pho Viet. Later, halfway snorkeling through a large bowl of noodles, I noticed the family from the surplus store entering.
