Pho tai chin
Soojin J.

I LOVE pho and am happy to have finally found my fave in DC! I came here after church and we passed a few other pho places along the way, but my friend insisted this is a local fave and would be worth the trek--and it was! It's a tucked-in restaurant that feels a bit tight but also cozy. We quickly got a table for a group of six, but larger groups would likely need to split up and sit at different tables. I got my usual Pho Tai Chin and it came out slightly pink but cooked quickly in the bowl. I was on the verge of hangry and it was exactly what I needed for instant glee. Highly recommend and can't wait to come back and try their spicy pho!

No meat! Broth tasted like a chicken bouillon cube was dropped in a microwave safe container with some water. Noodles were hard. They gave me the leftover scraps. I asked for them to explain this to me and the lady said that's your meal. Don't go here. I had to go to McDonald's to get more protein. This is supposed to be my after drinking meal.

Unfortunately visited this spot twice so far and just could not get with it. Service is poor and embarrassing if you are bringing someone to explore with you. Food is very okay, there are much better Pho options in the area. Came out way too fast and was not fresh at all. I tried the Spicy lemongrass Pho that seems to be all the craze here, but simply was not worth it to me. Seems to ride off the spice overpowering the broth but not much going on otherwise. I will say the ambiance is nice, it is a cozy location and the space is utilized well.

I wish I could give 5 stars because the lemongrass pho was mouth watering good. Chefs kiss. I'm Vietnamese and was skeptical when my friend said we should come here for lemongrass pho. I thought it would be the spicy beef (Bun Bo Hue) broth with pho noodles instead. Boy was I wrong, this lemongrass broth is heaven on earth. I got the regular spicy which was perfect for me. I would recommend mild spicy if you're not used to eating spices; my friend had a hard time with the regular spicy. I couldn't give 5 stars because their summer rolls were mostly vegetables and could use more vermicelli noodles. Other Vietnamese restaurants' summer/spring rolls fillings are more substantial than this Pho Viet.

Got the vermicelli noodle with lemongrass pork! It was good but I kinda wish it was more fish sauce-y hehe, maybe I should've asked for more sauce. Service was good, the restaurant is on the smaller size and they were packed throughout the night!

The only place I order Pho! I love Pho Viet on 14th on any day, it's a nice tucked in small resturaunt on 14th st. The service is always speedy whether there's a line full of customers waiting out or the door or not! The Spicy Lemongrass Shimp Pho is the only things I order, and of course I'm ordering it all year around! No complaints 100/10!

This place was very good! The lemongrass spicy pho with maximum spice is very tolerable but I noticed in my two times eating there that it does vary significantly by who is in the kitchen. I did have to have them add more spice when my full spicy pho tasted like medium, which they were happy to do. Regardless this place is some solid pho although my friends who are California natives were not as impressed. Did not enjoy the spring rolls as they tasted a bit old. The egg rolls were good but not your classic egg rolls! Service is fast but be warned that seating inside is limited and often you have to share table with another party so I probably wouldn't go here on a first date..

My favorite (and really the only) place I get pho! They have an amazing spicy lemongrass broth that will open your sinuses right up. I also love the salted lemonade and the crunchy fried egg rolls. This location is always buzzing, and it reminds me of a cozy cafe in Saigon.

This is the best pho in DC and probably the best pho I've had in a long time. The broth is extremely flavorful and the way they do their spice is much different from all the other spots. They give you actual spicy sauce instead of just siracha Check them out

Chicken pho

Came here with a friend who lives in the neighborhood and loves the lemongrass pho. I ordered the chicken pho -- which another friend told me is blasphemous ("you didn't order the beef?") - oops lol. Its a good portion size. Lots of noodles. I got the quarter spicy which was plenty for me.

Before we even walked into the restaurant, we were informed that the left entrance door had been broken for quite some time. Since we had a double baby stroller with us, getting inside was a bit of a challenge and not exactly the best first impression. Overall Ratings Atmosphere - 3/5 Service - 3/5 Food - 3/5 Parking - Street Parking Atmosphere - The restaurant feels a bit old and dated and could probably use some updating. Interestingly, while the dining room definitely shows its age, the ordering system is modern and up to date. The contrast between the two was pretty noticeable. Service - Service was just okay. This is more of a casual setup where customers place their orders at the counter and the staff bring the food out when it's ready. There wasn't really anything memorable, either good or bad, about the service experience. What We Ordered - -Spring Rolls (Good) -Pho Dac Biet (Special Beef Pho) - The flavor was good overall, but the broth was only lukewarm when it arrived. A bowl of pho really needs to be piping hot, so this took away from the experience. -Grilled Pork Rice Plate - The pork was a bit too salty for my taste and was just okay overall. Final Thoughts - This was an average dining experience. The food was decent, the service was adequate, and the atmosphere was nothing particularly special. Nothing stood out enough to make me want to go out of my way to return, but I also wouldn't discourage others from trying it if they're already in the area. There are simply other Vietnamese restaurants nearby that I would be more inclined to visit first.

I was a walk-in -- with luggage and a bit soaked from a summer thunderstorm -- and I was warmly greeted and even was invited to leave my bags with the hostess while I dined (and was given a Pokémon card as my claim tag!). I was seated immediately at the bar, and both bartenders were lovely. I ended up with a tasting menu -- I asked for it to lean vegetarian but was OK with fish, and they delivered perfectly. I didn't jot everything down, but a few of the highlights: - The taro milk bread with butter and a variety of seasonings representing different regions of Vietnam. It's some of the best bread I've had, the butter was delicious, and I'd have happily bought a bottle of each of the seasonings (especially the one with, I think, cardamom and peppercorn). - The grilled bamboo! I had never had bamboo in this style before, and it absolutely made me a fan. It had a unique, hearty texture and a delicious sauce. It was one of the most savory vegetarian dishes I've had in ages, and I'd have it again in a heartbeat. - The curry cake! I know their pastry chef is renowned, and it's easy to taste why. This was one of the most unique and most delicious desserts I've tried anywhere. Who'd have thought fish sauce caramel could be so good? The cocktail pairing was also fabulous! I like wine pairings but really enjoyed the cocktail option here. The Lotus was the highlight of highlights for me, but I really enjoyed the Good Luck, Babe! and the Out of Dipping Sauce (another fish sauce surprise in its deliciousness and utility), too. The ambiance was fun -- upscale but not stuffy, with a playlist that featured just about every song I loved as a stereotypical college kid in the '00s. And the bar was very comfortable, too. Plus, I never felt undervalued as a solo diner. Was it pricey? Yeah, but not unreasonably so. I absolutely felt I got my money's worth. I am so glad I tried Moon Rabbit, and I will definitely be back.

Things you would think are only savory and only sweet are being combined. It took a while to process my experience here. We started with drinks. The golden prosperity was my favorite. The purple yam drink was okay but I wouldn't get again. Same with the grandmas candy char. Then we got the taro milk bread and their vegan bread. This was a great start. The culantro butter was amazing. The bread was soft. The vegan butter was nothing like I've ever tasted. You would never guess it was vegan. So flavorful and creamy. Then we got the salmon crudo. This was simple but flavorful. The strawberries weren't needed though. Then we got the mochi beignets. This was so unique. Flavor bomb for sure. I liked the eel but not sure if I liked it with the mochi. Then we got the charred eggplant. This was my least favorite dish. Nothing exciting and the consistency of the eggplant could have been softer. Then we got the gnocchi and crab. This was our absolute favorite. Like wow! So flavorful and decadent. The crab was the cherry on top. Then we got the quail and tomato rice. The quail was kind of dry on its own. Needed the tomato rice. The lemongrass pork was another favorite. The char and consistency of the pork was so good. The mango added a nice contrast. Then we the dessert. I wanted to like these as they have received awards for their desserts but this was just too complex for me. First we got the pandan pannacotta. There were these pieces of seaweed that really threw off the whole dish. Then we got the green curry sponge with a fish caramel sauce. This was okay but not sure I liked this savory/sweet combo. Overall very unique, very complex very interesting meal. I recommend trying it at least once but I probably won't be back.
