Really really cute place. Service was also quick and was very friendly. I hate to give less than 4 stars but I'm hoping that the owners will read this and make do better with their food. It was just way too salty. My tonkutso ramen was just unbearable because of the amount of salt. They even salted the shiitake mushrooms. Who does that? They should just let the natural umami of the mushrooms to just shine. Please, do better and let the ingredients remain in their perfect state of goodness. read more

Everything is super tasty and decently priced. My favorite was the fried chicken- the combination of the crispy outer layer with the sweet and spicy sauces on top was chefs kiss. Only con for me was there isn't any face to face service- you have to order and pay on an iPad immediately upon entering and there is a self service station to grab utensils, napkins, and water yourself. The inside is also hand painted to give the illusion of a 2-D black-and-white drawing and that was cool. The wait to get our food after ordering was not long & the portions were huge! Wow -- absolutely loved this place! We ordered the 2-piece fried chicken buns and the fried chicken curry with rice, and everything was outstanding. Huge portions, packed with flavor, and honestly some of the best food I've had in DC. The food came out fast -- under 5 minutes from ordering -- which was impressive given the quality. The staff were top-notch: friendly, smiling, helpful, and super efficient. The restaurant is spotless, pricing is great, and the space is creative and fun. I also really appreciated the thoughtful packaging, especially keeping the rice separate from the curry, chicken, and vegetables -- such a nice touch. This is definitely a place for instagrammers and not necessarily if you're craving a good meal. The decor is definitely super cute and trippy to sit in! They have staff but you'll order at a kiosk. I ordered the fried chicken buns and the soup dumplings. The buns were pretty solid, but kinda felt like a few chicken nuggets in a bun with sauce and some lettuce. The soup dumplings were a little meh, wouldn't order again. Overall a cute spot to come once for the novelty. read more

I'll be honest I did not come in expecting to be Wowed because the appeal is more in the black & white decorations. But the noodles I had were appalling. I had the vermicelli noodles and my noodles were very undercooked (it was still hard). All it needed was to be blanched in hot water a little bit longer. I approach one of the staff very politely and said, "Sorry to bother you but my noodles seem very undercooked." She looks at it and goes, "They're vermicelli noodles that's just how they are." I reply back, "I'm Southeast Asian and I know how the noodles..." before I could even finish my sentence, the staff member gives me a surge of attitude and goes, "OKAY I'll just have them remake it." and speed walks to the kitchen. I go back to my seat in utter shock because I was trying to be polite. Now I look like the bad guy because I wanted my noodles properly cooked. They make me a new one and both staff members ask me condescendingly if the noodles are better with the Gen-Z stare. Yo I'm sorry the noodles were bad and I bothered you guys... This place reminds me of the 2D cafe in Japan. The place looks awesome with 2D effect. It is a self service shop so you come in and order at the kiosk. The server and host are friendly and the food comes out immediately. I went with a friend and ordered the Tapinyaki, Pork Dumpling and Pork with Rice. You order at a kiosk and the food comes in about 10-15 minutes. I got the tonkotsu ramen. Food was good and well-portioned. You can get water/fill up your bottle for free at the self-service station. The workers were cool. Probably won't go again until it gets cold out because it was super warm in there and I'm not sure they have AC. read more

There have been very mixed reviews since this place opened recently. I had the grilled chicken with rice vermicelli and the garden rolls. The garden rolls were very fresh and the dipping sauce was good. The grilled chicken had a really nice flavor. The vermicelli was a little stringy / hard but were better the next day when I had the leftovers. The soup dumplings looked good and I'll try those next time. read more

Ordered carryout last night and it was FANTASTIC! I had the Vietnamese spring rolls and the Karaage (Fried Chicken) and they both carried home well. I approach any new noodle restaurant with a great deal of anticipation. I love noodles like I love cute little puppies. I will always seek out noodle dishes that I see on any menu and an entire restaurant with only noodles??? OMG I was so happy. But, upon entering 2D Noodles, my anticipation was lost. The dining room looks tacky and immature. Now, to be sure, this is a casual place. But, still, the atmosphere was definitely "downscale." I did not like it. The concept here too was off-putting. No waiters, no real service to speak of - rather, you order your food on kiosks right at the front door. That might be okay for a place like McDonalds where you know the menu very well but it just did not work at 2D Noodles. And it wasn't just us (keep in mind that we were the oldest people in the dining room) - everyone who entered the restaurant paused, looked around, hoped that someone would help them. Plus, the categories of food on the kiosk were not logical and they were not well presented. The food itself was slightly better than Oodles Noodles that you would add hot water to at home and eat as a snack. The meat was low quality. The other ingredients, though sparse, were just okay. There is one way that this restaurant lived up to its name - there were lots of noodles, LOTS AND LOTS OF NOODLES! TOO MANY NOODLES!!! The bowl was so full of noodles that it was difficult to eat and, when I was done, I felt that I had eaten too many carbs! Whoever came up with the recipe has over-emphasized the noodles too much. I did not even think this was possible but 2D Noodles accomplished what I never thought would happen: there were too many noodles and not enough other stuff to balance the noodles out. And the service - or lack thereof - did the rest of the story here. When I wanted another soda, there was no way to get it. I would have had to go back to the dreaded kiosk to order one. Forget it! While this place might be okay if just want a snack and you are too far away from home to heat some up yourself, it is not okay for a restaurant. I do not recommend 2D Noodles to anyone. read more

I would come back, but only because it's so close to the Tenleytown Metro. The decor is adorable, and the food is decent but not consistent. During my most recent visit, the broth I was served was hot, but everything else in the ramen was cold. 2D Noodles is a newish fast casual noodle place right off the Tenleytown Metro. The good: -- Interesting interior: The 2D design is cute, and the large chandelier on the ceiling is a nice touch. Ordering at the kiosk is pretty straightforward, and there's a staff member right there if you need help. -- The pho is quite delicious and very very generously portioned. Be prepared to take leftovers home. I had kept my expectations in check due to the lackluster yelp reviews but to my pleasant surprise the Pho is pretty yummy. The broth is a tad too salty at first but adding the lime juice brings it to a perfect balance. -- Staff is helpful and friendly. -- kudos for serving the noodle soups in proper ceramic bowls, not plastic. The Not-so-good: - Cleanliness: The place is quite new but isn't as well kept as it should be. There's visible dirt and debris on the floor especially along the walls. Also, as soon as I sit down, I noticed a faint unpleasant smell, the table smells like dirty rags. It had probably been wiped down with a rags that hasn't been rinsed in a while. - the bean sprouts plate that comes with the Pho has a puddle of water sitting at the bottom of the plate, which doesn't feel sanitary. Please dry the sprouts properly before serving. Hopefully these issues will be addressed. Overall, a very welcome addition to the neighborhood. read more

This is a great spot! Just opened so a lot of the menu is missing, but so far great food! The decor is really cool and nice is a good spot for photos! The boba bar seems like it will open next week which is a cool addition. Service wise, it was super quick and Nate, who brought us our food, was very friendly and attentive! Holy Meow, this new place is like pouncing into an unused DC coloring book. Rice and chicken was tasty, Ramen was just ok, and Seafood Pho was closer to a hairball than real seafood. Meow oh meow, Grandma must have been a stingy old bird because her edamame was only enough to share if you were trapped in a dirty alley with two calico's! I'd say give this place a few weeks to work the kinks out, expand the menu, and then hopefully it will be the cat's meow. read more

We love this place. Delicious dumplings and appetizers. Good ramen, interesting drinks. Still need to try the pho. Wish they had a proper bar but if you're into smoothies and tea/condensed milk coffees, they have great options. Service/ambiance takes some getting used to but it is quick and the staff are friendly. This area is tough for Asian food so it's a great addition! read more

Got takeout. The "not seaweed" was good & soup dumplings were great. But the main dish bowls were so bad. The chicken & pork meat both tasted very processed and were rubbery, couldn't finish it. Plus everything was in awful plastic containers, nothing sustainable. Would not go back. read more
