I just came today after a day taking my visiting family on a tour of the national mall & Smithsonian, we definitely needed some yummy food and a great environment. I had heard of this place prior and since it's just off the metro at Cleveland Park decided to give it a try and boy did it deliver. We walk in and are seated immediately, a nice environment of comfy chairs and Thai decor welcomed us, as we could already smell the delicious food they were making. Our waitress was extremely attentive and helpful, and took our order quickly, bringing us water which was consistently refilled when needed. The food was out of this world. I'm from LA and am a bit of a Thai snob and this place blew me away. Definitely the best Thai restaurant in the DMV. Phenomenal. I honestly can't understand why this place has less than 4 stars. I have not tried much of the menu or dined in here just yet, but what I've tried so far has blown me away. Perfect balance of spices with a substantial kick (especially if you order it extra spicy). Their Panang curry is my favorite in DC. I found this spot on Uber Eats. I enjoy the food here and delivery has been pretty good. Overall, our family favorite is Drunken Noodles with Chicken. It is truly delicious. The other dishes we have ordered are okay but wouldn't say 5 stars. One of the disappointing, parts was that we ordered steamed chicken dumplings, but we got fried pork dumplings. This has got to be the worst pineapple fried rice I've ever had. The rice was mushy. It definitely wasn't made with old rice like fried rice should be. You can even see a ball of fresh rice clumped together in the photo. The pineapple chunks are obscenely large and the shrimp tasted bitter as if it was spoiled. What a delicious restaurant! If you love Thai/pan-Asian food, this is a great place for you right in the heart of Cleveland park only steps from the red line metro station. We started with the duck roll, which is perfectly crispy and served with a delicious sweet brown sauce. We also had the Angel eggplant, which was a total standout! The fried eggplant is sweet, savory, and crunchy all in one, perfect with the sauce and white rice. The minced chicken and fried tofu are wonderful additions. The Thai tea was strong and decadent too! Perfect ratio of tea to cream. The ambiance is fine--it's definitely a restaurant that caters more to takeout and delivery than dine in. Placed an order on Uber Eats from this restaurant at around 9:40 PM. Since they were still open past 9:00 PM, decided to give this place a try. Delivery of food was fine, but the quality of food and portion sizes were pretty bad! Seasoning was way off as we wanted 4-5 stars of spice levels on all of our foods and none of them were as expected. I don't know what it is about Paragon Thai but I simply love it. It's my go to Thai place. They have the standard Thai fare and specialty dishes that are just delicious. The food is always fresh and flavorful. I am very particular to the gyoza, the Thai fried rice, pad see ew, and the lemongrass chicken. I also really like Thai custard for dessert. Their food holds up well in the fridge, and they give you decently sized portions that you can have leftovers. I normally get it delivered and it holds up well in transit too. It is in a great location, really close to the metro, and it has a parking lot where you can get your ticket validated. If you order delivery, unless you live within a certain distance of the restaurant, you'll have to use a third party delivery app (sadly) and you can't order off their website. Very disappointed with the takeout. I tried three things: Fried shrimp cake appetizer: arrived soggy, not that flavorful, dipping sauce was too sweet and fluorescent for my taste. Tofu drunken noodle: noodles were all stuck together, a little gummy and oily, spicy but lacking in flavor. I've found that some hidden gems are stuck with 3 star ratings due to people's bad experiences from years ago or because of service rather than the food, so I've started branching out to Thai restaurants I haven't tried in the DC area, and Paragon was next on my list. I ordered Paragon for delivery and was unfortunately underwhelmed. I was SUPER psyched that they had a dish called "Nua Ka Ting" that's beef prepared with a red wine sauce and chili garlic that my local Thai restaurant discontinued about a year ago. It's a unique dish, and Paragon's version comes sort of close, but it's definitely not the same. I'd order it again for the nostalgia value. I can't say the same for the other two things I ordered -- the Drunken Noodles and the Panang Curry. Both were unfortunately extremely bland. I'll give Paragon credit for two things. The delivery was fast, and unlike some Thai places that cheap out with tiny rice containers, theirs were full sized. Overall, Paragon fits squarely on my "it's fine" list, but it won't be part of my regular ordering rotation. read more

Wow, I don't know where to start. I love Thai food and some of the best I've ever had was in restaurants that didn't have much ambience but I left thinking what a great experience I had. Paragon was not a good experience. This was my first visit there, but the ambience suggested that it had clearly seen better days. The interior was dirty and our table s=was still sticky from not properly being wiped off. The wait staff was inattentive and the food, when it finally came out, was tasteless and overpriced for what it was. We ordered two dishes and decided to share. I ordered a soft shell crab Pad Thai that was 85% breading. Seriously, neither one of us dining that evening could find the crab. Just a bunch of fried breading. The Pad Thai was way too vinegary and wasn't well balanced. We also ordered a shrimp curry that was equally tasteless and tasted like they had added a bunch of four to stretch the sauce. I asked for brown rice and that was equally tasteless. The ambience left me with the impression that this was more of a takeout place. It would not be a place I would ever go back to for a fine dining experience, or even a sit-down meal. For that matter, I wouldn't order take out either, as the food was uninspiring as well. I don't know what is up with Paragon Thai. It used to be my go-to take out place since I live in the neighborhood. But in the past year I have received orders that were not just bad, but awful. My last order: the drunken noodles had almost no vegetables, was just mostly large clumped together watery noodles with bland chicken, almost no flavor. The spicy eggplant similarly had more bland meat than vegetables (including eggplant!) in it, and watery flavorless sauce. The only good thing was the mango rice dessert, which luckily was great (hence the two stars). I don't know if I'll order from there anymore. read more

We ordered through DoorDash. App told us about a 20 minute pickup wait, no problem. However, upon arrival, the app tells us our order is delayed an additional 20 minutes. Not a big deal, we decide to wait indoors. The kitchen scene was pretty hectic. When we tried to approach the person behind the counter, we were told very plainly to wait along with the barrage of drivers and patrons. We opted to walk around Target instead. Still checking the app, the order continued to be delayed for about an hour. Finally, we entered the store again tried to ask the person at the counter when the order would be ready, and were told once again to wait. Oddly enough, the app then notified me my order had been completed. Once we tried to ask the person behind the counter again, we were again not helped and simply told to wait. I have worked in food service for the majority of my life. I understand how hectic and stressful things can be, particularly during COVID. The last thing you need is a customer breathing down your neck regarding their order. However, I was immensely frustrated with the lack of care to even answer one question or attempt to help us with our "completed" order that was nowhere to be found. After that hour, we simply decided to give up, pay the 25 dollar parking validation, and request a full refund (which we got). I order/eat here frequently, as it's close to the metro and close to my apartment. It's not really anything special, but it's a solid choice for a meal. I have yet to eat in, but delivery through yelp has always been reliable and easy to use. I do recommend the soft shell crab, but that's because I am a lover of soft shell crab, and not because Paragon Thai does it especially well. It comes with a choice of two sauces, but discard them and order a panang or yellow curry instead. For whatever reason, the yellow curry sauce and the yellow curry entree are different, and the sauce that comes with the crab is not as good as the entree dish. I wouldn't recommend the pad thai or the shumai; the pad thai has thin noodles, not enough sauce, and no lime wedge. The shumai was a bit too dense and not super flavorful. As a bonus, they will validate parking if you eat in. read more

Saw this place as I was coming back from an event. I love spring rolls so I decided to get some as soon as I saw it on the menu. I also ordered house salad. Well, all food was VERY fresh and yummy. However, the size of portions is really small. For 7.50$ you would expect 2 regular sized spring rolls fully stuffed. Same for the salad. Looks like a 3$ serving size. It was good but I cannot spend so much monet for the portions like this. Just watch out when ordering appetizers and salads - the portions are much smaller than what you would expect for that price. What a nice find. I wanted to take myself out to eat and I ran into this as I was walking around the neighborhood. It seems that they are open all day, which is geeat because I showed up at around 3:45 in the afternoon on a Saturday. They do have lunch special, but only on the weekdays. I ordered the tom yum soup and the flavors blended perfectly. It was oh so good! For my entree, I ordered the seafood drunken noodle; it comes with squid, shrimp, and scallops. The server recommended just the shrimp, and I should've listened to her. The shrimp was the star of the combination. I also ordered medium spicy, and I don't know what I was thinking. I don't like spicy and that was definitely too spicy for me. I couldn't fully enjoy it, but that was my fault. For dessert, I ordered the sticky rice with mango. It was delicious and everything I wanted, but the presentation could've been a lot nicer. The mango was pretty soft too. Service was on point. There weren't a lot of customers there.
