Update: The owner response to my last review further proves my point. I did not ask for a refund for the spilled drink. When I requested a new drink for my toddler your staff did not make me aware that I will be charged for a new drink till after the new drink was brought to the table. Once I was told that I was being charged for the refill I gave the drink back to the server. My son did not touch or drink the refill. When I requested that the refill be taken off of the bill your staff refused even though the drink was untouched and the continued to be rude. Cleaning up is there job so I'm not understanding why that's being brought up like they did us a favor it's call customer service. Furthermore your staff stated that last call was 7:45pm which is when we were seated, your establishment closes at 8:00pm of course we would be there past closing time. Your staff was very racist & began speaking a different language while I'm requesting the extra drink to be take on the bill. With that attitude as an owner your business won't last long. The food here was hands down the best Vietnamese I have had in over 10 years here in New Jersey. We started with the summer rolls. Done to perfection. I had the Pho Xe Lura which is slices of rare steak, well done flank , brisket, tendon, and tripe with soup and noodles. OMG the best Pho soup. My daughter had Banh Me Thit Bo NuOng which is the grilled beef sandwich. She said it was so delicious. Only thing she took off was the Jalapeños. Service was quick and to the point. This establishment is very racist and unprofessional, I came in and was not greeted for 10 minutes. After someone else came in they were immediately greeted. I expressed to them I wasn't acknowledged the server Julian and the woman told me I was busy. Get my smoothie and go. Everything is on camera. And they didn't like my attitude. I've always liked the smoothies so I drove 20 minutes to be treated very poorly. HIGHLY disappointed and I will make sure my social Media and community knows to not support this establishment. So this is the first bad experience we've had with pho way. my bf went to order short ribs, pho, calamari, thai ice tea. he came home and they gave us squid for the pho instead of calamari and the thai ice tea was so BLAND. my bf went back to get the calamari fixed and to ask to fix the ice tea. he then added an order of spring rolls and JUST short ribs NO RICE. he came home. THE RIBS ARE MISSING!! so i call them and explain the guy on the other end then asks so did you order already or did you wanna order. it was so frustrating because he was not even listening. He sounded like a young teenager. he then proceeded to say oh the short ribs are right here. so then i say well you guys forgot it in our order. and i try to explain this is gonna be our third time coming back. i then ask can we at least get the ribs for free it was ten bucks we maybe spend 50 bucks and we wasted two hours going back and forth with the waiting and driving. manager is conveniently not there. they're trying to only give us $2 off. TWO DOLLARS?! what a horrible HORRIBLE rectification. they have zero care about their customer and their laziness. manager needs to run the place better. and they need to stop wasting peoples time. I have already been there three times since finding it and tried something different every time and all three of my bowls were delicious . The Banh Mi is fantastic , the breads have a nice crunch when u bite it but nice and soft inside and they load it up . The Summer rolls and good and the peanut sauce is bomb . The restaurant is clean, there are two great servers at the counter who welcome you with a warm smile. I ordered the shrimp with bacon eggrolls for an appetizer but it didn't make the photoshoot. Lol!! Reading is definitely fundamental because I thought I was ordering a soup and was surprised when a bowl of ingredients placed in front of me. It is nice to have an authentic family operated Vietnamese restaurant in the hood. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Decore is basic but not jarring or unpleasant. The summer rolls were 3 out of 5 in my opinion. The Bahn Mi was lacking something but I couldn't figure out what it was missing seasoning-wise. I got to this place by way of killing time for an appointment and was amazed at the place and I had great timing as well. It was packed when I got in with just 2 servers who were busy and while I was asking, a spot opened up. Yey! I ordered the spring roll for appetizer and it was definitely one of the best I've had. Had a great time at Pho Way today! My friend and I went for dinner. They took our temperatures upon arrival and seated us very quickly. The server was very patient and informative when it came to the menu. We both got the Pho (S), and it was a big serving. They gave good portions of the meat and noodles, and the broth was perfect (not too salty). One of the best places for pho that I've been to. It was nice that they had hand sanitizer on the tables as well. For anyone not from Union, there is street parking and parking in the back of Kung Fu Tea/Bonchon. Had dinner last night at Pho Way, the new Vietnamese restaurant in Union Center. I had never had Vietnamese food before and now I see what I have been missing. The menu is extensive (and somewhat exotic which makes it even better). I had a chicken and vermicelli dish that was seasoned to perfection and served with miniature egg rolls and a side sauce that was extraordinary. In addition to the food though was the warm and welcoming attitude of the staff. The could not have been more helpful or attentive. I was also impressed with the safety measures they have. Tables 6 feet apart, utensils packaged and they also placed a bottle of hand sanitizer on the table. This place is definitely gonna be a new go to place for me. Check it out! read more

For reasons that I can't explain, 35+ years of living in Union had never seen us dining on Stuyvesant Ave. north of Morris Ave. We were impressed to see just what a growing dining scene had emerged since our last visit (other than the weekly trip to Stop & Shop for groceries). When we learned that quality Vietnamese food had come to the area we wasted no time in visiting Pho Way. On an early Sunday evening street parking was plentiful, and the corner facade of Pho Way attractive and welcoming. The interior was clean, albeit a bit lacking in decor. The three-person front-of-house staff were each very pleasant and helpful, and service was prompt. For my tastes in Vietnamese food I typically order a meat and rice noodle dish on first visits, working my way up to ordering pho if I sense that the kitchen knows their stuff. Predominantly North Vietnamese in style, Pho Way offers a wide variety of rice noodle (pho) soups, grilled meat and dry noodle and sauteed egg noodle dishes, bahn mi sandwiches and rice-based entrees. Starters include a dozen eggroll (fried), summer roll (raw rice paper) and shish kebab appetizers. We planned to begin our dinner with shrimp and pork summer rolls (2 for $5.50). Tonight the appetizers arrived at the table after our entrees and were quite rubbery, but tasty none the less. Chopped lettuce and a few small shards of unseasoned pork prediminated. The always lovely Ms. G. selected a Grilled Pork Bahn Mi ($7.50) and was pleased with her choice. She noted the presence of adequate quantities of pickled veggies and a more restrained hand in applying the liver pate-- both aligning with her preferences. Throwing caution to the wind (and craving a big bowl of pho) I ordered the Combo Pho ($14.95; with oxtail, well-done brisket and flank steak, raw flank steak, tripe and tendon). I found the broth to satisfy my craving, if lacking in expected complexity. There was no discernable taste of charred onion, cinnamon, ginger or star anise, raising suspicion that a prepared soup base-- rather than long simmering-- was at play. The pho wasn't, however, overly salty; a clear indication of short-cut preparation. The oxtail was properly cooked and excellent, as were the thinly sliced brisket and steak. My two favorite pho add-in's were, however, disappointing. Beef meatballs, a $3.00 extra charge, wasn't seen on the menu when I ordered. Beef tendon, when properly cooked, is an unctuous and gelatinous treat, were undercooked to the level of being completely ineatable. These missteps didn't detract from a satisfying bowl of pho, but that bowl of pho isn't a candidate for my "best of" list. With green tea, tax and tip the meal averaged $18 per person, representing an excellent value for a solid-- if unspectacular-- meal. We're likely to return to Pho Way soon, and to explore more of the area's eateries. read more
