Fresh and Sumptuous Vietnamese Food in Downtown Millburn! We came to Saigon Cafe in the downtown area for an early dinner on a Friday evening. They have a few tables outdoors and some seating inside. When we arrived around 6 PM, the place was just starting to get busy, but it was completely packed by the time we stepped out around 7 PM. The food here is fresh and really sumptuous. Honestly, they serve some of the best pho we have ever had. The bone broths used in the soup are incredibly flavorful and feel freshly made. Here is what we ordered: * Fresh Spring Rolls: We started with the shrimp spring rolls, which were decent. * Chicken Pho: My wife got this, and it was awesome. * Special Beef Pho: I ordered this one, and it was very flavorful and tasty. there were several different doors to enter which was confusing, but we made it inside the interior is small but clean. it was pretty loud inside as they were clattering plates and moving the chairs around, which was a bit of a nuisance at times when i was trying to make conversation. many of the guests also were having very loud conversations, and given that it was such a small restaurant, they carried over. the service was decent we got the shrimp summer rolls, and two orders of beef pho. the combo beef pho description was misleading because i assumed it came with all the listed types of beef but it did not, the server had me choose two beef options. the pho was good- it had a nice clear broth and they were fairly generous with the protein. i was satisfied with the meal overall. read more

Came here after a doctor appointment nearby and checked Yelp for a Vietnamese place! This one was perfect, centrally located with great parking in front. Takeout on the right and around the left of the billing is the entrance to the restaurant! Looks like outdoor dining available along with karaoke(?) in nicer, warmer weather will need to check out! I've struggled to find great Asian restaurants in this general area but Saigon Café was a pleasant surprise. Optimally set up for takeout or delivery purposes, the food is very fresh and well packaged. I ordered the summer rolls and they came well wrapped in cellophane and fresh vegetables. Their peanut sauce even tasted more fresh than the standard Vietnamese restaurant. Definitely plan to come back here again soon. Wow! This is a little hole in the wall that I found by doing some research on google- definitely worth it. We ordered the summer rolls, banh mi sandwich and beef pho. We weren't a fan of the summer rolls but the main entrees were delicious and the service was so quick- we were in and out under an hour and the place had every table filled! Sorry guys I ordered takeout and didn't take pics! Ordered the shrimp summer rolls and brisket pho and both were absolutely delicious! The small dining space is up a house porch and then up a small flight of interior stairs. The space is no-frills, and service is attentive if not always the warmest (the server I had was no-nonsense but did his job well so I didn't need smiles and extra chit chat). The pork vermicelli platter was fresh and delicious. There's an array of sauces on your table, and the waiter told me which one (the fish sauce mixture) I should put on my food. The front of the restaurant is exclusively for take outs and deliveries. The entrance to dine in is actually on the side in the back. We have a group of 4 that day I visited. We were greeted when we steps in. The restaurant itself was clean. Service was alright. My husband and I ordered a milk tea and a Vietnamese coffee. He ordered a bowl of pho and I got the grilled beef bento box. My friend and her his husband ordered a matcha drink, the ox tail pho and the grilled chicken bento box. The milk tea I had was not bad at all. I like it. The tea base seems a bit different but it is more milk flavored, so the tea base was not that strong. Those that prefer stronger tea base might not like it as much. The grilled beef bento box was mediocre. The grilled beef was definitely a bit too dry and hard compared to the pork my friend ordered. The summer roll was overall small wrapped, but I guess because it's part of a bento box and not a full appetizer. Not sure on that since we didn't order a summer roll appetizer to compare. My husband said his pho soup base was average. The soup is hot but not enough flavoring compared to the many Vietnamese restaurants we have been to. Considering the area and neighborhood we were in, I guess the pho was already pretty good, just not the best we've had. All 4 of us thinks it's ok but will we come back to try other food? We started with some delectable appetizers, the fried vegetable spring rolls (crispy and fresh) and the meat pao sandwiches (pillowy and savory). The banh mi was interesting with the vegan pate (not my favorite but my wife loved it) but the pho was perfectly flavored by the broth that tasted like it had been simmering for a day along with the beef and noodles. This is one of the cutest restaurants that I have discovered in Millburn. The restaurant is a literal house! There was a gorgeous outdoor seating area that resembled a backyard, w/ string lights and plants. We walked around to the side door to enter, and the interior was decorated w/ small neon lights and lined w/ booths along the wall, similar to a diner. The atmosphere was very peaceful. There was calm instrumental music playing, and even the servers were very soft-spoken and friendly. I ordered the V-Box w/ chicken, which was delicious. Took the boy for lunch, as I was tempted by rumors of a great Bahn mi sammy. The place is totally revamped since a few years back with the awkward porch entrance, and now it's very open and airy, aided by the brilliant dumbwaiter (intended) to maximize seating space by putting kitchen below. My son had the summer rolls, 2 with tofu and 2 with shrimp. Surprisingly, the tofu was the tastier of the 2. There was so little shrimp, it was as if the cook rubbed it with a shrimp and placed a shrimp sticker on it instead. I suppose because the reviews are plastered all over the menus about the award-winning pho, I felt it was a better bet than the bahn mi. I wasn't wrong. The waitress (who spoke extremely poor English) offered the "spicy lemongrass broth. It was hard for me to say no to the bone broth, but I'm glad I did. This is almost like a house that has been converted into a restaurant. Stairs up to the main dining area, so use the wheelchair lifts for access (thanks to the business owner for reaching out about that!) I like the decor inside, it's simple and modern, including the orange, black, and green chopsticks. A very nice tiled floor with a great beautiful glass pattern at one area. The pork bao I actually really enjoyed with the pickled vegetables and the slightly crispy pork. A little sweet and savory. The summer rolls were just okay, I think lettuce must be out of seasoned as it wasn't particularly enjoyable in this application, I would have had more shrimp and noodles in this instead. The peanut sauce was okay. A milk tea came in layers that you had to mix just like thai iced tea and was okay although next time I think I'll try the thai iced tea. I had expected boba but maybe the server misheard me. The table actually had three different kinds of chili, including sriracha, the crispy chilies and the chili oil which was fantastic along with fresh jalapeno that was brought for the dishes. Big thumbs up on having multiple chili types. The special beef pho was ok; I've had more flavorful soup, and the flank was too dry but the meatballs were great and the tripe and tendons were cooked properly, not too chewy. Portion was ok for $17. Staff was a bit busy, so you had to get their attention for certain things but overall they were very helpful whenever you ask for something. The veggie box was also overall dry because everything that was fried was overly so: the fried spring rolls and dumplings. The best thing was the spring roll and carrot slaw. Overall the food didn't have much refinement to it. I'd skip the bubble tea because it's pre-made, as well as the macarons which are small and not homemade. The staff were very busy, milling around which led to inattentiveness. They have indoor and outdoor seating and there was a long line for takeout. Absolutely delicious! Tried the iced vietnamese coffee, spring rolls, summer rolls and spicy lemongrass pho here. Everything was authentic and really flavorful. The spicy lemon grass pho broth hit the spot and even though they use square bowls that look smaller, it was still a decent amount of food. A lot of businesses when they have high ratings, don't necessarily take the extra time to look into feedback to learn and grow. But appreciate they do and reached out to me about the small mistake, and gave a free dessert in my next order. Looks like they also ended up comping the meal because I see a refund on the order. I've ordered about 5-6 times now and even ordered two days later despite the small issue last time because the bowl was still good lol. Overall 5 star flavor, quality, & service.
