    #4 Pho soup

I Love pho 79 my favorite is the one in Hampton although I do go to the one in Newport News and it is a great place to go also I just live closer to Hampton I love getting the pho bowl the one with the steak brisket and it's got all beef in it steak brisket and I can't remember the other thing it's the number four and I also like getting the noodle salad with the two steaks and a chicken I love getting that those are my two favorite things to get from pho79

After visiting numerous other Vietnamese restaurants in the Hampton Roads area, I feel like I can honestly say this is the best in the area. Although a little pricier, the food is top notch. Service is always friendly. I feel pretty good visiting this establishment.

I ordered some pho to-go, the #4 Pho Tai, Nam, Gau and a beef banh mi. The broth was very fragrant and still hot but it lacked salt. When you dip the steak into the hoisin and sriracha it adds some more flavor though. This was probably the only Pho 79 beef broth that was sort of bland but not completely bad. The beef banh mi tasted almost like kbbq and was delicious. The bread wasn't too toasted or hard either. Can't say much about the service since I got my order delivered but they accommodated my request for extra butter and jalapeños added into the banh mi, which btw is a game changer. Just one to-go mistake, they misread extra onions for extra carrots and it was just bit too much. Extra veggies never hurt anyone though.

So, for whatever reason I had a massive craving for Pho a week or so ago, and I was in the area. Searched this up and decided to stop in. I've been to other Pho 79 locations and been...well, underwhelmed. So I wasn't sure how it would go. But I have a recurring meeting over in this area, so I actually ended up stopping in three times over the past couple weeks. They have a nice upgraded bar area and the restroom was very clean. The booths are a little old and dingy, but the service is quick. I ordered the Pho Tai because that's always what I get to judge a place - and on the first visit, it was legit! The meat was perfect, the broth was fantastic. Second visit, overcooked. Third visit back to the first time, plus I tried out the spring rolls which were really delicious. On each occasion I tried to order crab rangoon, and was informed they were out on every single visit. Overall, I like this place and will probably keep coming back since it's convenient for where I'm at - but I wouldn't put it as my favorite Pho place on the peninsula.

I love the food here. Great customer service. I love how they have two size options for Pho. The crab rangoon is my favorite item. I normally order Pho Thai which is very flavorful once you add all the fixings. Normally when I go I sit at the bar. The setting is a nice relaxed vibe.

This is not Vietnamese food. Banh mi is soft and doesn't have the crunch it should have. No pate. The only good thing was that they had cheese head which no other place in Hampton or Newport News have. There's not that much meat in the sandwich either but it's $7.5 and nothing compared to the $5 banh mi up in NOVA that has way much more filling. The bun Bo hue was absolutely terrible. The broth tasted like water and wasn't even spicy. The bun (noodles) were also undercooked. The bowl was also really really small and super expensive. Overall this place at least has the proper meat in their dishes but their flavors and textures are all wrong. The servers were really nice though. I'm just upset because this was the final Vietnamese place in the area and they let me down.

First time having Pho at this place. Love the up to day full bar. The seating is spaced out enough so you don't feel like you're crunched. The place was very clean. My man ordered the All Meats Pho and I had the Vegetable Pho. We also ordered the spring rolls but quickly at those. Very good! I have to say, the staff was absolutely amazing. Very nice and attentive. The portions are quiet large and definitely worth the price. We will go here again.

Food is ALWAYS great but definitely on the pricier side. I eat at this establishment atleast once or twice a week. The service is always quick and the protein and toppings that they provide is always fresh. My favorite menu items are P4 as you get a great serving of protein, rocket shrimp, fried rice, stir fry egg noodles, and the wings. I wish they would change the amount of sriracha, chili oil/paste, and oyster sauce they give you on to-go orders as it's never enough. Ambiance is great, it's self-seating and the wait staff is always polite and attentive.

Very pretty beach decorations that make you feel like you're in Virginia Beach. The food is to-go and you just go up to order. There's chairs for you to sit while you wait for your order. I decided to go here since I'm originally from NoVa and have been on the hunt for Banh Mi ever since my go to place in Richmond went down in quality. I was a a little disappointed that they no longer sold the Vietnamese food that they had many years ago that I had seen on previous reviews (lemme tell you, I would've bought everything) but I was glad they still had banh mi on the menu. My significant other got a cat fish po boy. Combination banh mi: It is HUGE! the sandwhich is about a foot long. The filling has all of the normal veggies such as cilantro and pickled carrots and radish but the meats were a bit different. There was some sort of sausage in it but there was also your normal Vietnamese ham and pork. I was a bit disappointed that the bread wasn't a Vietnamese baguette. It was a bit softer than that and also looks nothing like it. Still, the flavors were the closest to Banh Mi Ba Le. My quest to find bread that is the right texture unfortunately has failed Newport News and its surrounding areas. But, the meats are the closest I can get around here. Catfish po boy: we got 6" because my partner wasn't super hungry but this thing was still HUGE! we had 4 pieces on fish on it and it was HEAVY. 100% worth your money and it tasted great! Overall, a very big bang for your buck. I just wished they still served more Vietnamese dishes. Next time I want to try their shrimp though.

We dined at the Virginia Beach location once but again, it was a while back (a la 2012). When we saw it was listed as part of Newport News Restaurant Week, we decided to check out their menu and saw some items that were interesting. So why not try?! We came in on a rainy Sunday afternoon after checking out a movie. Inside, it wasn't overly packed with customers. The decor was spotless and really neat. This Newport News location is very beautiful. I'm beating myself up as to not take many pictures of how it looks. Definitely a sight to see. After a few minutes, we were ready to order. For my app, I selected egg drop soup and Mongolian Beef with fried rice for the main course. Everything was pretty good. The soup was a nice start for my meal. I was surprised to see green onions in mine compared to other restaurants where it's just eggs, but it tasted good. The Mongolian Beef was cooked to perfection. I know sometimes this protein can get overdone but not here. The veggies and rice were done just right. Definitely a good lunch to have. Overall, our experience was wonderful.
