First impression of the place, it has a small diner vibe with all glass windows. The place smells and looks clean. Very pretty beach decorations that make you feel like you're in Virginia Beach. The food is to-go and you just go up to order. There's chairs for you to sit while you wait for your order. I decided to go here since I'm originally from NoVa and have been on the hunt for Banh Mi ever since my go to place in Richmond went down in quality. I was a a little disappointed that they no longer sold the Vietnamese food that they had many years ago that I had seen on previous reviews (lemme tell you, I would've bought everything) but I was glad they still had banh mi on the menu. My significant other got a cat fish po boy. Combination banh mi: It is HUGE! the sandwhich is about a foot long. The filling has all of the normal veggies such as cilantro and pickled carrots and radish but the meats were a bit different. There was some sort of sausage in it but there was also your normal Vietnamese ham and pork. I was a bit disappointed that the bread wasn't a Vietnamese baguette. It was a bit softer than that and also looks nothing like it. Still, the flavors were the closest to Banh Mi Ba Le. My quest to find bread that is the right texture unfortunately has failed Newport News and its surrounding areas. But, the meats are the closest I can get around here. Catfish po boy: we got 6" because my partner wasn't super hungry but this thing was still HUGE! we had 4 pieces on fish on it and it was HEAVY. 100% worth your money and it tasted great! Overall, a very big bang for your buck. I just wished they still served more Vietnamese dishes. Next time I want to try their shrimp though. read more

Yum! Saw all the great reviews and was going to be in the area and love seafood so stopped in and this place did not disappoint! Food: Jumbo Fried Shrimp platter had lightly fried shrimp which were delicious and a generous serving of fries. They were nice and crispy crinkle cut a favorite! Hush puppies were good and the Cole slaw wasn't my favorite but I am particular about my Cole slaw. The 6in sausage po-boy was also delicious and huge! The gentleman who took our order was kind and friendly. There are seats inside to wait for your order but they do not allow you to eat inside even though there are tables. Just an FYI! update 11/18/2024 - two years later and the food is still consistently good, they haven't gone up in price that much and you still get your food fairly quickly. The coleslaw is still over chopped in my opinion, but the flavor has gotten much better. and I just started eating pork again and tried their grilled pork Bahn mi sandwich. It was really good, the bread was soft, the meat was grilled and flavorful and plenty of pickled veggies and fresh cilantro. read more

Growing up in a Vietnamese household, I know what good banh mis taste like! I wasn't disappointed when I tried both the special and the grilled pork ones. First off, for $5-$5.50, these sandwiches are huge. Think of a large sub- that's how massive they are. Both were jam packed with delicious, tender, and nicely flavored meat. Takeout during Covid has become the norm in 2020. The hubs and I had completed a few errands, and Anthony's seafood was within the vicinity of our location. They have a small parking lot, so keep your eyes out and gps on as it's easy to pass by. Upon entering, I noticed a beach theme in decor. It's very clean with a few tables and chairs. Three large framed menus were displayed to the left on the wall by the counter. It looked like there was only one person working that day. The hubs and I took a few minutes before we decided on a 1/2 lb of fried shrimp, small fries, 12 inch hot sausage po-boy, 12 inch shrimp po-boy, and special bahn mi sandwich. It took about ten minutes for our order to be ready to take back home. So... let's start with the special bahn mi sandwich. It was advertised as a combination cold cut of grilled pork sausage, Vietnamese ham, house mayo, pate, pickled carrots, daikon, cucumber, jalapeño, and cilantro. It was the least favorite for me. The bread used was a hero loaf, and not the typical airy baguette. The shredded carrots lacked the sour pickled flavor. The cool sliver of cucumber was somewhat limp, but the meats were ok. It was hard to savor for more since it lacked the aromatic flavors and textures that would make a bahn mi divine. The seasoning for the shrimp was quite salty and bland. 12 inch hero loaf was utilized for both shrimp and hot sausage po-boys. The description stated that it would be dressed with lettuce, tomato, mayo, and pickles. Umm the hot sausage was deep fried to death.... As for the shrimp po- boy it was crispy. That is crucial, as no one wants soggy shrimp where the breading falls off. I wished mayo was laced on the bread to revitalize it's flavor. I did love the abundance of shrimp in my po-boy. Tarter, hot sauce, and cocktail sauce is available upon request. This is a great place for those on a budget. It can easily feed a family of four. The hubs and I will try Anythonys Seafood again. I've passed Anthony's Seafood many times. It's like one of those spots where if you're not familiar, you won't stop on because you're judging the book by it's cover. The Yelp reviews is what caused me to order lunch from Anthony's. I had the clam strips platter. You get a lot of food. Plenty of clams and fries, 3 hush puppies and coleslaw. I loved the clams and French fries (although they could've been a little easy on the seasoning salt for the fries). The coleslaw wasn't too bad. The hush puppies were no bueno (and I was looking forward to saving them for later). I don't know if they were fried for too long or maybe it was a bad batch. Either way, they were a no. I would definitely return for more clams and I may try something else. Plus, the prices are reasonable as well!! Worth stopping by and trying it at least once. read more

Was skeptical at first but this place is SO GOOD! Stopped by just before 10 am (an early lunch) and wa surprised they were already open. Yay for that! We ordered a catfish basket, shrimp po boy and a sausage po boy. We had a 20 min drive back home and were worried about the shrimp/ catfish getting soggy from steam, but surprisingly it was still hot and crispy once we got home. Food was hot, fresh and we got a lot of food for the prices. The catfish basket had so many fries that all 3 of us could split them (the equivalent of the size of 3 large fries from a fast food place). Didn't get a picture of the catfish basket but the hush puppies were crispy on outside and soft and delicious on inside, sandwiches were so big we saved half for dinner. Sausage was mildly spicy. As a New Orleans native, this place is my number 1 go-to for po-boys! The fried shrimp and fried oyster po-boys "dressed" are a must-have! Doesn't look like much when you enter but the menu is so diverse. From southern food to authentic Vietnamese food, I knew I had to try their banh mi. What an awesome find! Anthony's seafood is easy to miss. I've been working two blocks down for six months and haven't noticed it, and been going to the vet right next door for longer without it being on my radar. I am so glad it somehow made it on my radar though! The restaurant is small but very well decorated, open, and clean. There isn't a lot of seating but what they do have is very cute. Like the name says, they do offer an array of seafood dishes - most of them being fried. What the hidden diamond though is their bahn mi sandwiches (what brought me there in the first place). For a huge portion, it's less than $6 and will fill for you right quick! The veggies are so fresh and the meat so flavorful it'll knock you off your feet. The service is also very efficient. I've called in once for pick up and my food was ready exactly when they said it would be. The other time I just dropped by and within ten minutes they had my bahn mis ready to go. WOW! This little gem of a fast seafood restaurant is right on time. In the old Waffle House building but newly renovated, Anthony's Seafood has entered into the restaurant world. Out picking up my wifes car from the shop today we passed it on Mercury Blvd in Hampton. Decided to swing by. I ordered two fish sandwich combo's . We end up getting a sandwich with enough fish on it to feed a family. A ton of piping hot crinkle fries and a drink all for $5.99 each. It was absolutly wonderful! This place also has Vietnam sandwiches that I will be trying next time. The place is nice and clean and the custormer service is top of the line (really nice and friendly people). My favorite place for lunch can't beat the price & the kind face I see when I enter this hidden gem! Random Yelp find during a drive from the Va eastern shore. A small, carry-out spot that has a few tables inside. Very odd menu, full of various seafood options and Vietnamese banh mi. The food is quite good, and the price is excellent. The "special" banh mi was great, fried soft shell crab was excellent, crab cake was pretty good for the price.
