I didn't have any expectations when I came to this salon, but I needed a haircut badly. When it comes to the haircut, my stylist Mira did a great job. I asked her to make my hair feel lighter since I have a lot of hair, and she did an amazing job at that. The only reason why I'm giving this place 4 stars instead of 5, is because I made an appointment for 2:30 pm on a Saturday and received a call asking me if I could be there earlier than that time, I showed up early and my stylist was busy working on eyebrows, which made me a little upset since I still had to wait even though they asked me to be there before my appointment time. Anyways, I waited 15 minutes, however, it is all about respecting each other's time, so I did not think that was appropriate. Someone did come out and apologize. I have been coming to Pure for the past four years and Ciara has been my stylist since day one. She is simply amazing! She listens to my ideas, offers suggestions, and I always walk out happy. Ciara and I have been talking about coloring my hair- covering the gray and maybe adding highlights or lowlights for a while. She is never pushy and I really appreciate that. I was apprehensive to begin coloring my hair because in the past (with other stylists), I haven't liked the results. Either the color was be too blonde or it would turn brassy. Ciara assured me that if I chose to color my hair, this would not happen. She was right! She is also a master at color!! My only regret is that I didn't begin covering by the gray sooner. My stylist moved and I needed a new one. A friend told me about Daryl at Pure Salon but when I tried to schedule he was booked up for the next month on Saturdays so they recommended Alisha for my long black hair. She was amazing! Amazing! Lets start with the salon...greeted and offered a beverage. They actually have really good coffee. Didn't have to wait long for Alisha before she took me back to her chair to talk about my expectations. Got a neck and scalp massage with a conditioning oil then headed to wash my hair. While there, I also received a hand and arm massage. BONUS! They use all Aveda products here and they smell great! Now onto Alisha...she was friendly, talented and trained by the famous Daryl I've heard so many great things about. She took her time on my hair and it turned out EXACTLY how I wanted it. The cut looks awesome and she even worked her magic to give me those sexy flat iron curls that spiral down my back!! She talked me through all the products she used so I always knew what she was doing. I was a biology/chemistry major in college and noticed by some of the things she said that she has a strong knowledge of the science behind hair and hair products. I'm impressed and will be back. There was once a time in my life where I had PERFECT hair. It was like a sheet of silk, so straight, so soft, just there. Then one day I woke up and it went away. Ok, really what happened is I started to abuse it: flat iron, tried color, le sigh. Since moving to Dallas, I've only gotten my hair cut locally twice: once at a Toni and Guy (meh) and once at a random hair studio (eek, highlight disaster). All my most recent haircut adventures have happened when I would go visit a friend in College Station. This time around, I had no time for that 3 hour drive. Pure Salon was recommended to me by a friend long ago, and I finally made use of the memory. The salon was a little hard to find, I drove right past it on MacArthur without realizing (it is in a strip perpendicular to the road and a Tom Thumb). I showed up early, but ended up being taken earlier than my appointment as well. I was scheduled with Nicole who was friendly and just the right amount of chatty. She asked about my current shampoo, what my normal hair routine consists of. Let me say now, that I'm really low maintenance when it comes to my hair. I wash and go. No brush, no comb, no heat- I'm just lucky this way, it doesn't tangle either. As previously reviewed, my session started with consultation, a scalp massage, hair wash, a hand massage, and a conditioner. It was all very lovely. (Ok I wish the hand massage went longer, but hey) Nicole did a great cut and even added some cute bangs that I'm liking right now. She checked with me as she cut a little at a time, to make sure I was liking where it was going. My hair feels soft and it definitely cleaned up my ends, as I desperately needed. Here's a great perk. I booked an online appointment with Daryl on 7/1 online. I clearly mentioned that I needed a haircut and wanted to shave/trim my beard. Since Daryl was on vacation I was instead referred to Alisha. I agreed. When I reached Pure Salon, Alisha mentioned that she was not authorized to style my beard. I had clearly mentioned that in my appointment request. Alisha also mentioned that she couldn't perform a fade on my hair since she wasn't trained to perform that. First off, the staff needs to ensure they read the online appointment notes section, else why have those? Secondly, if staff cannot perform certain tasks, please clearly mention that on your website, else you are wasting your customer's time! read more

I came here after reading the great reviews on yelp! I just moved here from San Diego and was sad to say goodbye to my old colorist and stylist :( I didn't think I would find a good replacement but I am so glad I came here! The building is hard to find if you are not familiar with the area. It is in a little shopping center with a Tom Thumb and tons of other little stores, It also looks really dark from the outside but it is really open and cheery inside, I loved the atomosphere. I had Caitlyn (hope I spelled that right!) as my colorist/stylist! I am used to separate color and style so it was a nice change to be able to stay with the same person! It had been about 5 months since my last cut and color so I definitely needed some help. She was able to match the blonde from my previous highlights perfectly, and then added some caramel lowlights. I did not even notice these lowlights that much in the salon before leaving but when I got home and looked in the mirror I was so happy, they look so great and really stand out, I am in love with them! I didnt have lowlights before so I am glad she suggested it. I have been growing my hair out for a couple years now and it is time for me to grow up and say goodbye lol, especially with this Texas heat! Caitlyn didn't want me crying in the salon so she did not try and talk me into a bob right away, she just said we can take off a little at a time and make it less painful. She took off about 6 inches but I am happy and in love with it, its already easier to manage. If you are like me and looking for a salon then come to Pure and go see Caitlyn! She is young but she really knows what she is doing, I have gone to colorists and stylists who are owners of their salons and they do terrible jobs! I am super lame for taking this long to review Pure because I had a great experience here a few months ago. I needed somebody in Irving to do my hair and makeup for my wedding, and I just randomly picked this salon because of the location and the fact that they use Aveda products. Lindsey did my hair and makeup for my trial run and the day of and I was really pleased with her work and she had a great personality. My hair stayed in place all day and the makeup was natural looking and not creepy (a look I was trying to avoid for my wedding day). She even came in early on that Saturday for me, which was awesome. They have a lot of product to spend your money on up front, but I wasn't pressured in to buying any of it, which is a bonus. They are located in a strip shopping center next to the Four Seasons, handy if you happen to be staying there. I would totally go there for my normal upkeep if I lived in the area, but alas I am lazy so chances are good I won't be back, so you should go instead. :) read more

Upon moving to Irving, I needed a haircut desperately, but was afraid of who I might get and how they might butcher my hair. I picked Pure bc they were close by, had good reviews, and offered a scalp and hand massage. I was matched up with Kaitlin, who is a doll! Very sweet, good conversationalist but not overly chatty. After a very relaxing shampoo (with delicious-smelling Aveda products), and a scalp and hand treatment, she cut my hair perfectly, adding in long layers and trimming my bangs to perfection. My boyfriend complimented me three times that night on how great my hair looked! I would highly recommend Kaitlin (but don't go to her, bc I want to be able to get in for an appointment when I need one! ;)) The staff was also very friendly, and the salon was clean, bright, and smelled nice. read more

After 41 years of living, I now understand what other women mean when they say that they would move heaven and earth to do anything for their stylist. Seriously. I wish I could say that I selected Pure after grilling my friends for recommendations, scouring the web for well-reviewed locations, and interviewing multiple stylists. I know how important having a good stylist is, but who has time for all of that? Since I've been a kid, I've hopscotched from one stylist to another, always in the hope that the next one will actually BE THE ONE. You know -- the Chris McMillan to your Jennifer Aniston. The Frederic Fakkai to your Oprah. But whether it's my own bad luck or laziness or a combination of both, it never quite happened. I finally found one decent, cheap stylist and stuck with her, for many years, mostly because I just was too exhausted at the mere thought of going out and trying to find THE ONE. Occasionally I would find a woman with an awesome hair cut, ask her where she gets her hair done, and then make the trek to Wherever to try it out myself, only to come out with a high-maintenance haircut that usually wasn't much better than what my usual stylist would do. Anyhoo. To make a long story even longer, what finally prompted me to go to Pure was simple desperation. I'd gotten sick of my long (more than halfway down my back), wavy hair. It's "Asian" hair, but not the kind of Asian hair that shampoo commercials fetishize, with the shiny, smooth locks that seem to catch the light at every turn, even when there's not a light source in sight. Mine is more the wavy, unruly hair that turns into a mass of bedhead even hours AFTER I'd already rolled out of bed, simply because of a light breeze. I called one of my two default stylists, but she never returned my call. So I figured, what the hell, and remembered that I'd gotten a really good facial at this salon a decade ago and thought, Why not? (Note: They've gone through different managers/owners since then and only offer hair services now.) By sheer luck, I got Kerri, and I told her my dilemma: cut all the hair off, please, and just give me something short, easy to style, and doesn't require hardly any blowdrying. I like being able to just wash it at night, dry overnight, wake up, brush out, and go. I'm too busy to mess with appliances and don't really like having a lot of products in my hair. She IMMEDIATELY knew what would be good for me and went to work, massaging my poor, oily strands and then washing all the gunk and stress away with a relaxing shampoo and condition. Then, she started clipping. She must have cut about 8-10 inches off the back and neatly trimmed the bangs. When I emerged from the chair and put my glasses back on, I was a-MAYZED at the transformation. She'd cut my hair into a sleek, beautifully shaped bob that curled in slightly just at my jawline. It swung easily and felt light and carefree, and for the first time in years I didn't worry about a sudden gush of wind or even an unexpected downpour. It was in the days, weeks after my hair cut that Kerri's true genius and talent were revealed. As I'd asked her to do, I now had a hair cut that required so little maintenance, I could cry in happiness just thinking of it. I wash it at night, shape it a bit while it's wet with a comb, and let it air-dry. In the morning, I just brush it out, and while it doesn't look EXACTLY like it did fresh from her chair, it still retains that beautiful, easy shape and holds up very well in all kinds of weather. Best of all? No blowdrying or products of straightening iron required. When I want it to look fresh-from-the-salon, I might spend a couple of minutes putting serum through it and running a blow dryer through, but again, it's extremely low-maintenance. Now that she's proven that she's worth her weight in gold -- and then some! -- we're already planning on how I could try for an even more daring cut. I'm looking at even shorter hairstyles that would flatter my face and be even more low maintenance. She's asked me to email her pics of hairstyles I've seen on the web so that the next time I'm in her chair (around early May), we can discuss it and decide which would be best for me. I trust her completely and look forward to seeing what we come up with next. Oh, so basically my conclusion is: Pure Salon -- and specifically, Kerri -- is beyond awesome. I went to Pure Salon and asked for someone who knew how to work with short baby fine hair. Perfect, I was given Kerri and I loved her. She listened to my concerns and then I asked her to use her knowledge and expertise to do the rest. My hair turned out gorgeous, easy to fix and I can make it high style or casual. Do not let Kerri's age fool you, she is wise beyond her years when it comes to hair knowledge. Just moving from California, I feel very fortunate to say I have a hair stylist now. read more

I used Pure Salon to do my hair for my wedding. They came out with flying colors. I am really picky about who does my hair. During the trial run, Alisha listened to me. She even didn't complain, when I didn't like the updo and asked her to simply pin down my hair. On my drive home, my hair fell out of the style they gave me, and I emailed the salon to tell them that I was concerned about my hair staying for my big day. They were very receptive, and said they would make sure that didn't happen. For the wedding she did an even better job than the trial. It was more beautiful than I could have imagined. They took their time and it stayed perfectly all night. I got a lot of compliments. They were professional, by coming on time, and leaving on time. The offered a great price on doing hair. For weddings hair is extremely expensive, and this was reasonable. For any big event, I will go to Pure Salon. read more

I never write reviews but this time I REALLY had to because my experience was not a good one. The stylist wasn't nice and welcoming, which i never really thought mattered but seeing how bad her customer services was, i really think it does. When I first sat down and explained what I wanted, she seemed as though she understood. but when she started cutting my hair (which I think was the first time she held scissors) I realized she has no idea what I'm talking about. She kept making excuses why she couldn't give me what I was asking for - which was more layers. She was very new at being a stylist, the way she held herself and talked, it all yelled that she didn't know what was going on. I looked around to the other older stylists who seemed comfortable doing what they do. I automatically wished I had booked an appointment with a more experienced stylist (i think that costs more). The more experienced stylists were more talkative and they were making suggestions on how you should cut your hair. This lady that was cutting my hair was quiet, awkward and didn't know what was going on. I still think 50 bucks is overpriced for a newbie. I am definitely NOT going back to this salon. Based off other reviews, I decided to see Daryl here at Pure. I honestly just trust my hair with men more than women so I knew I'd be comfortable with Daryl right off the bat just bc he was a guy. Also, I had read online that he helps train the newbies, so he obviously knows technique, which is what I was looking for in someone to cut my hair. I have the stereotype Indian hair- coarse, long, super thick and midnight black hair. You need skill to cut this kind of hair or else you'll never have a happy client on your hands. That being said, I have so far had 2 amazing experiences with Daryl so far. He's a personality I like working with, and he really does know his technique. My last visit with him, I finally decided to go shoulder length and told him to work magic to make me like it as well. Big task that he accomplished like a champ. They offered me a glass of wine and I sat down in the chair and Ashley started on my partial highlights. She was very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable about the type of color to put in my hair. This place is not cheap -- a wash, cut, and blow dry alone will run you $70 without a tip. However, you get what you pay for, and Darryl gave me what is easily the best haircut I've gotten in the US. I called to make an appointment late last night, since I had just left a terrible salon farther north on MacArthur where the butcher (I can't even call her a stylist) hacked of 6 inches of hair (for a TRIM) and left me with a lopsized trapezoid on my head. Enter Darryl, who I learned later normally books up weeks in advance and trains most of the other stylists who work here. As soon as I entered, the receptionist introduced me and he got me a glass of water. He examined my hair to figure out what the previous person had done, and showed me what went wrong and what he would do to fix it. He both knew exactly what he was doing and took joy in explaining it to me I told him I wanted to keep as much length as possible, but needed it relayered and angled. I also mentioned I wanted something low-maintenance, where I could just run my hands through it and be ready to go. He told me I was in good hands. Darryl absolutely delivered. Not only did I come out with about the same length hair as I walked in with (as requested), but it falls beautifully and frames my face nicely. The layers are even and slightly U-shaped in the back, and everything is long enough that I can still tie it up easily. I am so relieved that I'll never need to risk a terrible cut in DFW again, thanks to Pure Salon and Darryl! read more

I made an appointment at Pure, despite recommendations from friends for other stylists, because I was short on time and the recommended were already booked, and figured supporting a local business is always a plus. I guess the old addage "beggars can't be choosers" applied that day. Reviews seemed generally positive, so I thought "hey- what the heck?" In short: Ultimately, my main goal of cutting enough off to donate to Locks of Love and freshening up my look was achieved, but I wasn't impressed enough to return (at least not to the stylist I saw). In long: When I arrived, I was greeted by a friendly woman at the counter. Unfortunately, I was also greeted by country pop music over the sound system. I know this is Texas and all, but seriously? At a so-called "spa"?? Not relaxing or classy at all, if songs that include the words "redneck", "my boyfriend", and "Jesus" in the lyrics of a single song, backed up by steel guitar and autotune turn you off... My stylist greeted me with reluctant energy. Was she apathetic, or just introverted? Neither are particularly strong personality traits for a hairdresser, but I went with introverted because that seemed more optimistic. As the stylist and I had our consultation, I requested long layers and to cut off enough to donate, but not much more other than what was needed to shape it. I don't use product. I don't blow-dry or style my hair. I don't even create a part when I brush my hair. It has a little natural wave that likes to go different random directions, but that's what the layers are for. Should be pretty simple, right? She touched a spot on my back and said "this is where it will be if we cut about 12 inches," and it came to the bottoms of my shoulder blades, so I said "great!" She ponytailed it into 2 sections and cut off the Locks of Love donations. Ta-da!! Over we went to the washing station. The wash was fine. Nothing too memorable. They use Aveda products, so it smells nice. They also give a hand and arm massage while the conditioner soaks in. I didn't love it. In the middle of my hair being rinsed, someone changed the music station, so that immediately improved the situation. After the wash, the cut began. She says to me "you have some natural curl to your hair" (didn't we go over this already?). "Yes," I replied, "that's why I like to have layers and keep it below my shoulders. Otherwise it poofs out into a mushroom shape,". She had a bit of a confused or concerned look on her face... I think she realized she had started trimming my hair too short. Turns out she cut off about 4 inches more than she'd indicated earlier. Oh well, it was still just below the shoulders, and it grows back, right? She asked me where I part my hair. "Wherever it falls. I flip it back and forth and don't really keep it parted." "Which side do you want me to part it on?" "I don't care. How about the left?" I replied, never considering she would take this to mean until my next haircut & style (which I only realized *after* I tried to flip it later that day and the hair was uneven). Then she asked me about what products I use. "None. I just wash and go." I "Do you usually blow-dry it?" she asked. "Only in the winter when it's really cold," was my reply. She proceeded to load it with product and blow-dry it super straight. "Whatever," I thought. It'll be fine after I wash it later... Except then she informed me that this particular product builds up to help keep your hair straight the more you use it. I freaked out a little on the inside, having never told her I wanted straightened hair, but continued to tell myself I could wash it at home. "Do you want me to flat iron it for you too?" she asked. "Um-- no!" was my reply. She seemed a little hurt and confused... My hair looked pretty cute, even if it was nowhere near how I'd ever style it at home. Mission accomplished (mostly). As she walked me out, she showed me where to find the product she put in my hair. I thanked her and asked if they also make a product that holds natural curl. Again she looked so confused, but she pointed it out as well. I told her I'd keep it in mind, but wanted to see how it went with my regular wash & go routine first, and bid adieu. I washed my hair the next morning, and it was still incredibly limp. Thank goodness for ponytail holders... After 4 or 5 washes, I finally felt like my hair was back to its normal slightly wavy texture. As my hair has started to grow back out, there isn't much definition between the layers, so am still going to have to go somewhere else to define them a bit more. I just need to remember to plan my appointment in advance this time... read more

As a first time visitor to Pure Salon, I was very happy with my experience. I have lived down the street from the salon for years, but have always trekked all the way to Fort Worth to see my stylist. My stylist unfortunately stopped seeing clients, so I decided to look for one closer to home. Luckily, Pure Salon was the first one I tried. The customer service provided was great. I was greeted immediately upon arrival and offered a beverage. They were actually having a charitable baking contest, so I also got to try a few goodies while I was there. It was good to know that the staff are not only gifted stylists, but know how to make pretty delicious treats too! Alisha was my stylist and she did a great job identifying exactly what it was that I was looking for. I was in for just a highlight, but she spent several minutes asking questions about what colors I normally prefer before making the color choices. She was very pleasant and refilled my drink while I processed. The hand massage was a nice touch and the lotion that was used was amazing. She's new to Pure salon, and I'm so glad I ended up with her. She listened to what I wanted, reviewed everything with me, and offered great suggestions. Very happy I found this place on Yelp. I requested an appointment on Yelp app and the owner promptly replied and got me in on the same day. I arrived a little early and was greeted warmly followed by a beverage. They are a full blown Aveda salon so I was able to browse through some products while I waited for my stylist. I recently moved to Dallas from Los Angeles and needed a new stylist, so I started going to Pure. I had an appointment with Sanya today for a cut and color. This was my second haircut with her but first time having her work on my color. Both times, she was very approachable, detail oriented, patient and knowledgeable. She listened to my concerns about my hair and made some recommendations regarding my length and color choice. I gave her the green light to move forward with her recommendations and it turned out to be perfect. Sanya delivered a quality cut and my color is exactly right (not too light and not too dark). I'm pretty tough to please when it comes to my hair.....she knocked it out of the park today and I'm thrilled with my new look. I haven't been this happy with my hair in a long time. Even though Sanya was completely booked today, my appointment started on time and she never rushed. I found the front desk staff to be very welcoming, too. They greeted me as soon as I walked in and offered me a beverage. I also love Pure's text and email appointment confirmation/reminder system. Never again! The worst waxing experience I have had since I started waxing. I usually never write bad reviews I let a lot of things slide but this just doesn't sit right with me. I do not want to name names but I believe the person who waxed me either has never waxed anyone before or just didnt know how to perform a face wax. I have been to two other Aveda salons over the course of 5 years and have never had any such bad experience. I dont think I'll visit pure salon again. Maybe their haircuts and styling are a hit (I have not experienced them personally but read them through other reviews) but personally my face waxing experience was a nightmare. read more
