The gals were a pleasure to work with. Laura was amazing at consulting prior to clipping my hair. She looked at the damage, asked questions, recommended/gave tips on how to better care for my hair & I couldn't appreciate it more. We went medium length with long layers. I have never felt the need to right a bad review for any service I have received, however the way I was treated at this salon today was unacceptable. I had been here a few times with another stylist and always left impressed and satisfied by the services that I received. Juan the owner had previously been kind and approachable. Today I had an appointment with a new stylist, as my previous one was no longer working at the salon. My stylist did not understand what I asked for at all. I told her I wanted to let my previously done highlights to continue to grow out, and that I just wanted her to blend the highlights into my natural hair enough that there wouldnt be a harsh line, tone my hair to remove some brassiness, and add some money pieces. I showed her a reference photo to show how I wanted the money pieces, she commented the the girls hair was lighter than mine. i EXPLICITLY explained that the photo was only to reference the money piece style I was going for, NOT THE COLOR. I even went on to tell her that I was worried about damaging my already bleached hair. She stepped over to ask the owner Juan a question, he came over, asked to see the photo, and I gave him the same explanation. He asked if I wanted to keep my long roots and remove some gold from my hair and I said yes to both, thinking this was referring to the tone I just asked for. Turns out that was a huge miscommunication and she begins bleaching my whole head and I do not notice until she gets to the side of my head and it is entirely to late. When I told her this is not at all what I asked for she just said "the picture". Other stylists begin to step in. I express concerns over my hair and am clearly and rightfully upset that she was doing the exact opposite of what I wanted. They then keep asking to see the picture and I explain over and over that I was not referencing the color of the photo. I even apologized if that was confusing but to please stop talking about the picture I just want to focus on how I want it. That did not happen. No one asked me what I wanted and when I tried to talk I was cut off. The owner Juan was extremely rude, would not let me explain myself, and talked over me to the point that I gave up. I just wanted them to finish so I could leave. I was so embarrassed and confused by the way I was being treated, that I apologized for crying, feeling like it was my fault and just wanted to get out. I have never felt so unheard or disregarded. I left with nothing close to what I asked for, or the picture they insisted on following. My hair is extremely gummy and damaged which is exactly what I was trying to avoid. I have attached both the reference photo and my results. I understand that miscommunications happen and that is why included so much detail in this post, but it was how they handled the situation from then on that was extremely disappointing. read more

I found this salon off of Groupon and according to the reviews, looked like a decent place. I had my appointment on the 2nd and left with lines from my foils and my roots still dark. The stylist, didn't brush the dye close enough to my roots. I then made another appt for that weekend, she put in foils, nothing. Now I'm frustrated. I come back a 3rd time. The owner argues with me about the growth being typical and I'm in tears... why would I come back 4 days later then? Welp... he "fixed it". I let in tears with gray highlights now, a month later, I'm sitting here with over an inch of roots. In all my years of getting my hair dyed, I've never had a stylist not brush the dye close to my roots when that's the reason I came in there. First picture is before going to the salon (last salon visit was end of Aug) second and third picture is now, one month after my last visit to this salon...I have more than an inch of growth, almost more than when I went in. I'll share some pics of my hair. I went for highlights and cut. I wanted long layers, but the only part layered is from the temples up, so the bottom is stacked very heavy (bad when you have lots of naturally wavy hair). There are lines, and what looks like a blob for highlights. Not a natural look. My hair isn't cut even either. They had me go back at 1pm yesterday, and after sitting there waiting for 30 min I let them know I had to leave. I am supposed to go back at 10:30 this morning, but I'm not sure that's a good idea. Not trying to be negative with my review, but I chose them because of the reviews, and that is not the experience I had. I wish it was. read more

Carmen is a receptionist and does a great job at keep the space clean and offers water or coffee while you're waiting which I appreciated the first time I got my hair done here! Went to Phoenician for the first time today for an eyebrow wax. Lita was amazing. She was super friendly, and truly dedicated her time to making my brows the best that they could be. I've had Selah do my make up for a friends wedding and I loved it so much I asked her to do MY wedding and I felt like the most beautiful bride ever! The owner and stylist are all SUPER friendly and fun. They know how color, and cut! My mother came to Juan years ago, so when I was younger I would do lots of colors in my hair and it always looked awesome. I've always trusted them with my hair. I made two appointments for myself and my daughter today. Upon arrival, we were told there was a wait because the tech working on someone. I was assured it wouldn't be more than 10 minutes. However, It was more than 30 minutes. It is now 5:50 and still only one of us is being helped. I asked the lady from the desk what was going on and why nobody was servicing both of us. I got nothing but excuses and not even an apology or an offer of resolution. My concerns are not of any of her urgency obviously. I stated when I called to make the appointments I specifically asked if we could both be done at the same time. The lady on the line said yes that would not be a problem. Yet, here we are. Apparently making an appointment is pointless because other people are getting priority over us. This is not acceptable. I made the appointments in advance to avoid this exact scenario. I am not happy with this service nor the lack of professionalism offered by the staff handling your front desk. I would give no stars if that were possible . read more

Having been to Phoenician Hair Co. a few times, I was surprised at the difference of my last visit. The first time I went, I had a groupon. We had just moved here and I had not found a hair salon yet. So I thought that was a great way to find a stylist. Juan did my hair the first three times, and the highlights and cut were fantastic. This last time, I called and talked to Juan to make an appointment, but I did not know it was with another hair stylist. If I had, I probably would have asked a couple of questions. I knew that full highlights were $85 and with tip, I hadn't paid more than $100, For this visit, the cost was a lot more. The first thing was the stylist doing my highlights, began working with another customer after my highlights were put up. Someone else had come in without an appointment but wanted a haircut. So my stylist began to work with another customer and another person checked to see if my highlights were done and really didn't sound very confident. I then noticed that I spent more time at the washing station. I will get a really bad headache if my neck is bent back too far or for a long time, so this is something I would notice. They did put a towel down for my neck, so it was fine. After the washing and toner was done, I basically sat at the washing station for my stylist, to cut, dry and style someone else's hair. So she was put in front of me even though she didn't have an appointment. I waited 30 minutes for her to finish the other lady's hair. So, while she worked on someone else, I realized that my time was not important at all to the salon. It felt as if I was put on the side until she was finished with the walk in customer. She did a good job on the cut. The highlights were good, but there is one part on my face that is almost white. When I went to pay, it was $130, higher than I have ever paid before at Phoenician Hair Co. I asked why, and was politely told that the toner was $20 (they took ten off because I didn't have long hair) and the cut was an additional $25. Honestly, I was shocked, if I needed toner, then why not tell me the cost beforehand? I don't think I have ever paid separately for a haircut... I thought it came with the highlighting. I am 100% positive I had been paying under $100. So I paid $45 more and got the impression that they didn't care about my concerns on it being a lot more than when Juan did it. Being on a budget, the extra money I paid, took away money I was going to use at my dentist to replace an old filling. I understand that different stylist will have different price structures, but I wish I would have known before I had the service done. read more

A nice visit at first. Walked into a nice quant salon full of sweet people. They say me down and everyone was very friendly. Now, I am a earthy natural person who is open to subtle highlights and likes to keep it simple. I came in with light root growth from previous hardly noticeable highlights looking to have something light to touch it up. The owner was very kind and seemed like a very personable man. I talked to him and explained how subtle was the name of the game. He said he understood and that was the end of it. HE USED CHEEP BLEACH ON MY HAIR and made it way WAY too light. I told him it was too light and he said I needed to get use to it. Went into a different light and IT GOT WORSE! you could hardly see my roots before and how I have very dark roots and he just did my hair an hour ago!
