I don't really get why everyone seems to love this place. I was really excited to have some really good middle eastern food, and while this definitely wasn't bad in any sense, it just wasn't amazing. I ordered the phoenician gyro sandwich with the greek salad. The gyro meat was a bit dry, but the sauce easily took care of that. The fries inside the gyro were pretty standard, but since they were thicker they weren't so crunchy and just added mass to the sandwich without much texture. The pita bread was pretty fresh, which was a plus, but none of the food really stood out. Parking is also pretty frustrating since the drop from the curb is pretty high and the construction next door means you're parking on dirt. On the plus side, the ambiance here is great, and even though you're RIGHT next to the highway AND construction, you can't hear anything at all from either one. read more

We ordered the dolmas for an appetizer. They were exactly what you would expect. Delicious! Would've been better if they came with tzatziki sauce for optional dipping. For main dishes hubs got the gyro wrap with fries and I got the shish tawook (marinated grilled chicken breast tenders served with grilled tomatoes and onions). This dish came with two sides. I chose the greek salad and baba ghannouj. Pita bread to accompany. We enjoyed our food very much. The owner was very friendly and inviting and I had the pleasure of talking with him a bit. A group of us where in town for class and wanted to get dinner near Rainey St. Bangers was closed so we found this on Yelp with great reviews. Interior was nice and it was hard to get to so we gave it a chance on a Monday night. For being four of the six people in the place, our appetizers took over 45 minutes to come out and one of our entrees came out 30 minutes before the apps and 45 minutes before the rest of the food. We got cheese rolls and meat pies to start. For being so small they shouldn't have taken 45 minutes. We then got our entrees. They were out of Beef Shawarma and Beef Tenderloin so we got three orders of the Lamb/Beef Kabob and one order of the Kafta Kabob. The three of us who got the Lamb/Beef Kabobs have been violently ill all day. Overall the experience and food doesn't really justify the perfect ratings that this place has gotten. And I took 2 noobs to Mediterranean food with me and they thoroughly enjoyed their experience as well. Between the three of us we ordered the Phoenician starter, the kibbi, the sujok sandwich (Armenian sausage), a falafel sandwich, and the beef shwarma plate. I think my favorite was the kibbi! Never had it before, but I'm always up to try something new and glad I did. The place was pretty empty, which made for nice dining at least! And the restaurant seems family-owned; the wife was our hostess and attentive waitress and the husband came over to ask how everything was going and chat a little bit. I feel like I rarely have time to review a place anymore, but wanted to fit this one in because it seems like a place that has a lot of good things going for it, and would be a shame if they weren't around a long time. This review is real. And 3.5 star. I've had my eye on this place ever since I saw the listing on Yelp. So, I was obviously glad when an opportunity to visit presented itself. Those of you searching for the name of the restaurant on google maps will not find it, use the address. We had made reservations despite it being Sunday night, and what do you know, a couple of minutes after we were seated, the place got kinda full. The decor is not Lebanese, so if you're a fan of vernacular architecture , you're not gonna like it at all. The room is brightly lit, with 3 tv s, the remote to which the owners will gladly give you if you ask. Straight off the bat, the first aspect that was brought to my attention was slow service. I love a good mom and pop shop, when it's run well. Not having an extra wait staff looks like it's taking its toll on the owners, who were darting from one table to the next. I assume this is because it's a new business, and they're trying to save where they can. Onto the food. Vegetarian Plate : Your choice of 5 apps on the plate, for which we chose hummus, babaganouj, Phoenician eggplant, Lebanese potatoes and falafel. So, here's the deal. There are plenty of excellent Mediterranean restaurants in the Austin area; one naturally tends to compare tastes. So you can imagine my disappointment at rubber like pita that was cold in the middle, and very commercial tasting falafel/ hummus. I don't want to declare that they're store bought- but they sure tasted that way. Granted, the falafel was soft, but I still felt it tasted like the falafel I buy at Costco. The babaganouj and potatoes were pretty spot on, which actually helped me finish that awful pita. Falafel sandwich : Nothing of significance here, it's a regular pita pocket with falafel. The portions are okay; I wouldn't say they skimp. It's a nice place, I give them that. (Tmi, but I gotta mention the ultra soft TP in the restroom). But they seriously could do with a few changes with regard to wait staff. Like I said before, mom and pop shops are great- but this place is too swanky to be called mom and pop, naturally , expectations are going to be high. The frequent turn over of this building had me and my boyfriend apprehensive yet curious about its latest incarnation. Upon entering we saw a large group of Mediterranean folks! Excellent sign. The service was impeccable, we were immediately greeted and seated and served. Not sure exactly what it was called but the Phoenician Get Started (?) had quality olives, zaatar and labneh and SO FUN a bell-ish shaped fire heated pita warmer. The manager-owner and server clearly took a lot of pride in their food - recommending and describing things with gusto frequently coming to the table and making small talk. Our kebobs were delicious and the rice buttery and fluffy. Tables, corners and bathrooms; all sparkling clean and well taken care of. Pricing was super reasonable. The first time I had food from this amazing establishment an event I attended got takeout from here. Based on how much I enjoyed it I knew that I had to pay them a visit. When a Mediterranean/Middle Eastern place bills itself as 'Lebanese' then that is a very good sign. Their shish tawook is one of the best I've ever had, as is their babaganouj. There's a subtle smokiness to it that really adds a depth of flavor. Their felafel is also delicious and well seasoned. Kuftas are also another solid bet, as is the Lebanese salad. Decided to give this new establishment a try since it had 5 stars, and boy were we not disappointed!!! Went in on a Monday for lunch around 1 pm; there was no wait and we were promptly greeted and told we could sit wherever we like. The inside is warm and understated in its decor with 3 mounted televisions (one of which had images of their food dishes on rotation). What we ordered: Chicken Schwarma sandwich with a Greek salad side Chicken Schwarma plate with hummus and baba gannouj Falafel appetizer Lebanese coffee The chicken was so flavorful and was not fatty at all. The hummus was delicious, creamy, and fresh as was the baba gannouj. The falafels were downright the best I've ever had with just the right mixture of chick peas to cilantro, parsley, and onion. The Lebanese coffee was spot on; rich and full flavored. Ziad (the chef and owner) was on the floor a lot either bringing out the food or just walking around to ask everyone how it was. What a fantastic Friday lunch! I didn't know what to expect, since I'm an Austin resident and have seen many places come and go in this location. My Lebanese friend gave it the highest accolades, and he knows food. Parking is easy- they have their own lot. I stepped into a clean, well-decorated restaurant and was warmly greeted by the Owner and Owner's wife. This is very much a family restaurant, and I certainly felt at home. Each appetizer was more than plenty to share (babaganouj, hummus, starter sampler, salad, makanek, Phoenician eggplant, and fried cauliflower) and the daily eggplant/beef special was so flavorful and generous. My friend and I also tried a crisp, Lebanese white wine that was perfect for the afternoon. You have to finish with the coffee infused with cardamom.
