William saved the day! Turned in a twelve-year-old flagship AV receiver for repair due to falling video monitor out HDMI connection. After extensively testing components inside, not only did he replace the bad capacitors causing the failure, he replaced other caps that were partially failing to increase the future reliability of the unit (which gives me some peace of mind as it is known to have HDMI issues and was already fixed once earlier by the manufacturer for a different HDMI problem). Anyway, I'm back in sonic heaven now thanks to William's determination, and was very pleased by the VALUE of the service and his expertise - one very grateful customer here and will definitely use his business again should the need arise! read more

My parents have been coming here for 10-15 years for all of their tv/receiver/electronics issues, and now that I am out of college and earning my own income, etc I am now a client of his as well. This Chinese man and wife are the most honest, genuine people in the sometimes scummy TV repair business! Really, go nowhere else. $15 diagnostic fee which is far less than the $40 or $45 other places will charge you, and when he could not fix my "46 Sony Bravia LCD HDTV due to the repair cost being worth more than the TV itself, he not only demonstrated this issue on several other TVs in the same generation/nearly the same model as my TV, but he also waived the diagnostic fee and let me out of there for free, and even carried my tv back to my car for me which was completely unnecessary (I am a decently built). I had Canon XL-H1 professional video camera used for television production that was sitting in storage, had a missing screw and loose handle. It was about 9 years old and worth probably $1,500, so I figured I'd get it fixed and then sell it on eBay or CL. I took it to the Canon Factory Service Center in Irvine and was quoted $300 and 2 weeks for the repair for parts and labor! There was a screw missing, but also a crack in the inside, and it was well out of warranty. So I left, sat in my car, and pulled up Yelp to find alternate options, as I had already committed the entire day to driving down for LA to get this thing fixed. Phoenix Audio Video came up, and I called right away. A polite lady answered and said come by any time. I showed up there 15 minutes later, around 2:00pm. William said he would take a look at the camera and call me with details and a quote. I left the camera, and received a call from Phoenix 30 min later with details of what work was needed (William said he could replace the screw glue the cracked plastic panel) - $120 and pick up in two hours. I said go ahead, and showed up at the shop 2 hours later. The camera was fixed, as promised and these guys saved me $180! I was glad to support this mom and pop shop, they were polite, did a great job, and totally reasonable in price. If you have a Canon camera or camcorder that is out of warranty and in need of service or repair, I recommend you check this place out before you dish out any big bucks for repairs or diagnostics. read more

My television stopped all audio output - I could see the picture but not hear a thing! I tried everything (and by everything, I mean EVERYTHING). I bought new HDMI cables, a new HDMI switch box, had DirecTV send me a new receiver, and then proceeded to plug and unplug, reroute, and test and nothing worked. I finally logged into Yelp and found Phoenix Audio and Video. I called and was amazed that William was at my house within 45 minutes! After a bit of work he figured out that the issue is the analog/digital communicator inside my television - since the tv is 12 years old it's not worth fixing it. He did get it working with analog cables and I'm happily listening to television once again. But, I do know it's just a matter of time until I need to buy a new television. I found some old 8mm VHS tapes and camcorder from the 90s during my quarantine cleaning, unfortunately the control panel came off. These are truly honest business people. I took my Samsung television to them and William explained the two possible problems quite thoroughly. I understood the problems even though I am not as technical as I would like to be. Instead of not explaining the problem and leaving me in the dust he made sure I knew what was wrong. The screen was the problem so it would have cost more than the TV was worth and he told me that. I greatly respect him helping me and being so honest. I had some difficulty finding the business, in part because Yelp took down the only review that had the new address in it. :( The business is now at 2670 Walnut in Tustin. As you're driving south on Walnut, you pass 2620 and then the next building is 2680. So turn in between the two buildings, and Phoenix is the first office in the row of offices behind the 2680 building. They have a sign at ground level in front of their door. I took my 15" TV in because it had no audio. William said he hadn't worked on a TV that small for two years. I believe him, because they're hard to find. I paid him $15 to diagnose the problem. He called me that afternoon and said he needed to order an amplifier, and it would take a week to get it. I called a week later and he said the amplifier hadn't worked, but he thought he had figured out the actual problem, and if I wanted to pay him another diagnostic fee of $15, he would get the right part in. Normally that would make me suspicious, but it's not exactly as if he was trying to rob me blind. He did, in fact, get the problem fixed a week later. He charged me a minuscule fee for his labor. I told him I wanted to make sure that he was making some profit, and he waved me off. I can't imagine another repair shop charging less than at least three or four times what I paid him. I feel as though he did some good honest work for a very low price. If I ever have another electronic problem with any of my equipment, William is the first person I will consult. read more

I just had my Adcom pre amp fixed by William. I orignally took it to a place in LA that is an Adcom certified repair shop that specializes in vintage and ultra high end audio. They had ultra high end prices to match. I drove back to the OC and took the pre amp to William. He took great care and a lot of time to make sure everything on the vintage piece was working perfectly and charged me 70% less than it would have cost in LA. William is a very humble man. After talking to him for awhile he shared that he got his start in High End audio back in Taiwan and has worked on the all the major brands. It is it nice to know that there is still someone who take pride in his work, takes great care in what he does and delivers quality at a very fair and reasonable price. I called them two minutes to closing to check if they even repaired subwoofers...and he told me to come on over -- even though they were closing. He helped me diagnose that the amplifier had likely gone out, and that it was something he couldn't fix. To have someone be able to tell me what the issue was, by itself, I was happy to pay for -- but he said I didn't owe him anything, declined my offer to pay him anyway. William is amazing and his wife is an absolute sweetheart! Without any warning my 55" Samsung Slim went completely black with intermittent green lines running horizontally and vertically across the screen. The sound without any picture made it (obviously) useless. Samsung was useless in helping me troubleshoot the problem and Best Buy wanted to charge $100 to send Geek Squad to my house (and won't take TVs over 45" in store for repair). Of course, the $300 extended warranty I bought expired a few months ago so I immediately started stressing out about having to go out and buy a new TV (after all this one is less than 5 years old and cost more than 2k). I found Phoenix Audio and Video via a quick Yelp search. With all of his positive reviews I figured it was worth a quick drive to his shop. William charges a very small fee to assess the problem ($15). Since I took it in on a Friday night (right as they were closing), William asked if he could keep the TV over the weekend and call me on Monday with his diagnosis. He was very honest from the get go and said that it could possibly be the screen that went out and although he could fix it and charge me for the costly repairs, this type of fix wouldn't be worth it and a new tv would be a better option. Still- we both crossed our fingers for better news and come Monday morning he called with excellent news. The problem was not the screen but rather one of two possible problems. He took time to explain both and the cost of either. He opted to begin with the most likely (and less expensive) issue and was sure to explain that if that did not fix the problem I would not pay for the part he ordered. He knows his stuff because his first hunch was right. He replaced a circuit board and I had my TV back within a week (more than a week sooner than his originally estimated time frame). The final cost came to $250, comprised mostly of the cost of the part. William's fees are exceptionally fair and more than affordable. He saved my TV, saved my wallet, and made my day! William even goes the extra mile to educate you about the best place to buy electronics and which ones to buy (or avoid). His business card is one I will actually hold on to! read more

After ordering a part that was defective, due to no fault of the owner, he reordered the part, quickly repaired our TV, and even helped my husband to Load and unload the TV onto and off our truck. I own a 12 year old Bose Radio-DVD-CD player that still sounds fantastic. The tray where you place the DVD or CD recently stopped working. I called Bose Service and was told that they do not repair any of their products that are 10 years or older for lack of parts. I located Phoenix Audio and Video Equipment and am I glad that I did. I dropped off my Bose player on Friday morning, paid $15.00 to assess what work would be needed to repair the player and received a call early that same afternoon telling me that the repair would cost $95.00. I told them to fix the player and was told that the player would be ready for pick-up at the close of business on Friday (the same day I brought it in for service). I was unable to pick-up the player on Friday so the couple who own Phoenix met me Saturday morning. In addition to repairing the tray, they also cleaned the player's working parts for no charge. My 12 year old Bose DVD-CD tray opens like new, the player sounds wonderful and it cost $110.00, all in. I initially thought about buying a new Bose sound system but decided against it when I learned Bose no longer makes a CD player! Yes. I know that I need to download but why start my music collection over again for the fifth time (records, 8-tracks, cassettes and CDs) when I have a perfectly good CD collection. Super nice older couple running this repair shop. I brought in a 10+ year old Sharp TV that wouldn't power on. I paid $20 for the initial diagnosis, which I thought was very reasonable. Then, the repairman, William, gave me an estimate to replace a part that might fix the problem. I said I wasn't sure if it was worth it, but he convinced me to do it because he said Sharp TVs are well made and will last a long time (after this fix). He also said he wouldn't charge me if the new part didn't fix the problem. I was sold. It took about a week, but the replacement part worked, as diagnosed.
