Having never been here and making jokes about this place haphazardly everytime I have driven past it the last 10 years I've lived in this neighborhood I was invited to a family dinner.... So here we go. I've never even looked at the menu even in anticipation of this dinner. Was ready to be taken back to 1997. I was at goodwill the day before and came very close to purchasing a shirt just for the occasion (a full print button up bowling shirt with what looked like the art you'd find inside a coffee shop on a friends episode) but I refrained. Make no mistake I still dressed like an old guy. Food was good; but after scanning the Instagram.... How is there not a single picture of the veggie plate? Easily one of the most aesthetic and hearty veggie plates I've ever seen. Absolutely deserves some attention. Glad our last visit was an outlier! this time- Kudos! great food/ great service! my husband had the Halibut Special and the chef went the extra when he heard my husband wanted to have tartar sauce- he made him some. After years of wondering, I finally checked out Phoenix City Grille for a weeknight dinner. I had no idea what to expect from an interior- while situated next to a Pizza Hut this is more upscale than I thought. Definitely an environment where you might want to reflect on what you're wearing before popping by. The menu is odd; you're looking at braised short rib one moment and a turkey sandwich the next, but the place was packed with what looked like a solid group of regulars. We ordered the aforementioned turkey sandwich and an crispy eggplant sandwich. Both came with shoestring fries. Both sandwiches were good, the turkey sandwich was a little pepper-forward, so if that's not your scene make sure you ask for no peppers! The crispy eggplant sandwich's flavor profile is herbed goat cheese and tomato jam- I don't think it matters what else is in the sandwich as those will be the only two things you'll taste. However, they both taste good. Service was friendly, the food was a little slow coming out. Overall, if you're local- definitely check this place out to judge for yourself. read more

This place is so unassuming on the outside... inside has dim and moody lighting, a huge bar, lots of space for tables and booths... it's a vibe. I got a slice of the green chile cornbread because IT IS NATURALLY GLUTEN FREE HOLY MOLY! No idea why but I won't question it. Guys, it was so frickin good. So moist. Nice pieces of corn. Great flavor. I didn't need the butter, but used a little to elevate it just a little more. Yummmmm. I also got the summer salad with salmon skewer - the salmon, I wished I had more of it. It was so tender and cooked perfectly! The salad was otherwise refreshing with various fruit and tangy cheese and a lemon mint vinaigrette to tie it altogether. It was great with the bread, made it a complete meal, otherwise the salad on its own wouldn't have been as satisfying. My boyfriend got the large PCG pasta, which didn't look that large lol but he was full after eating the entire bowl! He loved the cream sauce, two thumbs up. Had dinner last night and the food was excellent! We had an appetizer with thinly sliced, lightly breaded and fried eggplant topped with a fresh peppery arugula, feta, diced roasted red peppers (I think), and a drizzle of thick balsamic vinegar and olive oil. I split the short rib and baby back ribs with my friend. Both were tender and flavorful. Portions were large, sides were yummy. Ambiance was casual with an upscale feel. I come here a lot for drinks after work with one of my co workers. I have eaten here a few times too. Last visit I felt like it was way more personal. Chef made sure to make the our meals that much more special by making shared plates, since everyone wanted to try everyone else's plates. lol It was a little thing but a huge step above and beyond normal dinner service. I was brought to Phoenix City Grille by a local today and ended up having a great late lunch. It seems they are open all day which was convenient for us. We arrived around 2 pm, and although the restaurant was still fairly busy, the server was kind enough to seat us in a quieter section toward the back upon request, which I really appreciated. Our server came by quickly and handed us menus, and we ordered the Ramona Farms super food salad, the carne asada tacos, and the blackened mahi mahi daily special. The salad was delicious and came with a Chiltepin-Dijon dressing. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor since it had just a touch of spice that elevated what could have been a simple dish. All of their salad dressings are made in-house, which explains the unique taste and definitely sets it apart. The carne asada tacos were exactly what you would expect: classic, straightforward, and satisfying. The daily fish special, the blackened mahi mahi, was also excellent. It was served medium well with a crisp outer finish, which is exactly how I like it, and came with broccolini, mango salsa, and a red wine reduction that complemented the fish really well. Prices here are surprisingly reasonable considering the quality of the food. You can expect to spend around thirty dollars per person for a drink, an appetizer or salad, and an entrée. I would recommend Phoenix City Grille to anyone looking for a quick, delicious meal with great value. A very solid find. read more

Things have certainly changed here since owner Sheldon bowed out and turned the place over to new management. It's not a good sign when every time you visit there are new servers, maybe one regular. Tip: stick with menu regular items you're used to, favorites, not their specials. They are overpriced and usually in weird pairings and sauces. Last night my dinner partner got the special baked halibut on top of smoked beets. For $40 it looked like an appetizer and was gone in six bites. While I ordered the Coffee Rubbed Pork Tenderloin. We know exactly where this recipe idea came from and it wasn't close. The chef needs to go back through the files and find Sergio's recipe! The pork was served bloody rare and I've never seen that before. I cut off the thin seared edges and that was all I could eat. The puree/sauce was not good and the entire thing was flavorless. The service in the bar is very inconsistent. Weekends are awesome depending on who is bartending. As an example, we order martinis and always get the remaining shaker. Weekdays that is not the case with the girls apparently. They don't pay attention to patrons at the bar unless they are chatting with a regular, amongst themselves or on their phone. We did try the new bar, Still & Barrel and were disappointed that on a Saturday night before 8pm they were already out of two of the nine items on the limited menu. Cool ambiance but when we asked a few questions from the bartender neither of them seemed knowledgeable at all about the restaurant and just said they had literally never been over there. My husband asked her if she could make a margarita and specifically mentioned that he really likes the Gran Fresh Lime Margarita on the PCG cocktail menu. She told him she had never seen the PCG menu but could make him "A" margarita. Conversely, the weekend bartender knew their hours, menu, walked over and brought us one to look at after he told us how good the Duck Tacos and Shishito Peppers were, the two items that were not available. Amazing food and pleasant ambiance! Came here with my son and husband for a Saturday lunch. Was not busy at all. They've been around 25+ years but somehow neither of us had tried it before! They have a huge alcohol selection too if you're into that. My husband got a bd on cheeseburger and I got the crispy eggplant sandwich. I loved the arugula and goat cheese on mine, my husband said his burger was one of the best he's had. We enjoyed our fries too, super thin fries and very crispy. My son enjoyed a couple fries too! Bubbly, friendly, and delightful service experience with Kenzie is what I enjoyed during happy hour here with my sister. Every stop at the table to check on us she presented a beautiful smile and awesome hospitality. I will be checking for her the next time I dine here. Her service was off the charts. I was hoping the bar could make a chocolate martini but I was advised that they don't stock some of the ingredients to make it. So I asked Kenzie about the 'house' martini's that were on the happy hour menu and she made some suggestions. I ended up trying the blueberry lemon martini. It was delicious. We arrived early for our reservation & were immediately seated, soon our waiter came by to introduce himself & take our drink order. Soon our Margaritas arrived & they were good. We ordered off the Restaurant Week menu & soon the 1st course came out. We ordered the Brie & Poblano soup & a Crab Cake. I was very pleased with the crab cake until I tried the Poblano soup. The soup was so smooth & seasoned so well & I loved the cornbread croutons in it. Don't recall if I've had it before but all future orders will be compared to this one, it was that good. For our 2nd course my wife had the pan seared Seabass & she loved it. I had the braised short rib & pea risotto, it was so tender, flavorful & the Demi glaze really elevated the dish; it was excellent! For dessert we ordered both choices, the bourbon glazed apples & vanilla bean ice cream, unfortunately I'm not a fan of hot fruit but my wife is & she really enjoyed the apples. 11/2/24 - Short version: Wonderful experience! Absolutely no complaints. The food was fantastically seasoned, came out hot, great plate display, service w/ Karla was top-notch, and it is a very laid back restaurant. Definitely will go back. Longer version: stopped in this particular Saturday around 3:45. There are a quite few parking spots on the east side but even more parking available to the north, thanks to its location in a strip mall. Karla came over quickly after being seated and took our drink order. So there is one complaint actually: the special cocktail (Clarified Kentucky Sour) was not available until 5:00. LOL! No worries, we were there long enough to get it. The eggplant bites were thin and crunchy, the Danish ribs were spicy and fell off the bone, as did the short ribs (they were not spicy). The green Chile cornbread was not inundated with chiles, the mashed taters were creamy with a small amount of herbs to add a touch of flavor. All the cocktails were excellent (the PCG designed into the bourbon ice cube is a classy touch), even the non-alcoholic passion punch was tasty. The desserts were over the top. That buttermilk pie was to die (in hindsight, I should have ordered one to go), the apple crumble pie was so damn good, and oh man, that bread pudding was mouth-watering good. NO RAISINS! I have always been picky about bread pudding, only ever loving my Mom's old old Better Crocker recipe. Well, PCG's recipe was the closest thing to it. It was dense and flavorful. I could have easily eaten the whole thing (it's a small serving) but I wanted to save some for later -- which was extremely hard to do. ;-) Our server, Karla, was exceptional. She was funny, attentive, and very interactive with us. She kept heckling me about my distaste for raisins, and joking with us about hassling the bar tender for our 5 o'clock scheduled Kentucky sour special. My husband's Employer provided an absolutely incredible eve here for a Private Appreciation Dinner last weekend and it was phenomenal We're from Oregon and up North they too have a PCG but it's Portland City Grill, that was fabulous.... So good, we were there two days in a row! My brother and SIL took us here for my birthday dinner and it was EXCELLENT. Service, food, portion size, terrific! The rest of the party had burgers which they complimented; the shoestring fries were a hit too. I had some of the best chicken and mash I've ever had, with roasted carrots that were flavorful without being coated in brown sugar. We all stuffed ourselves and we're not sorry lol. We liked it so much, we stopped by the next day to split their chili verde appetizer. Super fresh homemade tortillas, very tender pork, and the perfect chili verde with enough heat to be interesting without scouring your entire digestive tract. This has been a staple in the neighborhood for many years. I am never disappointed when i come here. Absolutely fantastic place and amazing food. The ambiance is perfect for date nights. I enjoy the special which was a sirloin steak with blue cheese mashed potatoes, top with onion rings. The sauce, was a chili chipotle type of sauce but I honestly didnt think it was necessary. Our first date night of the new year & we went to Phoenix City Grille for Whiskey 101 & dinner. My boyfriend has become obsessed with Whiskey & we go bourbon hunting on the regular so I thought this would be fun. We had a tasting of 5 different whiskies, and a personal charcuterie board with fruit, nuts & cheese for me & his plate had meat. It was a very interactive fun evening where we learned about the history of Whiskey. It was really enjoyable & we were able to meet some people from the whiskey group we are a part of. John Christie was great as the host as you he was really funny & you could tell he really enjoyed talking about whiskey & would nerd out at times. After we had dinner & opted to sit at the bar as we wanted to watch the Rams/Lions playoff game. Jeff was our bartender & he was great. Jeff was very knowledgeable, friendly, & I think my bf now has a new man crush . You could tell that there were a lot of regulars there as the bartender & staff called them by name & was really engaging which I really appreciated. My boyfriend had the strip steak special with mashed sweet potatoes & carrots which he thoroughly enjoyed. I had the crispy eggplant sandwich with sweet potato fries it was delicious.
