Thieves...I think one star is generous. They came to do a simple job that should have taken 1 or 2 plumbers a couple hours. Then they gave us a bill for almost $2000 in labor. 2 plumbers for 4 hours to 'troubleshoot' that cost us 1000$, and 4 plumbers for 4 hours the next day. The owner of the company refused to talk to us. He credited us 4 hours for 2 plumbers but our bill was still over 2k and way more than the repair was worth. Also the plumbers never called us to approve the repairs and cost. They just racked up hours on our backs and the boss stood behind them. To add insult to injury they tried to charge us a late fee on the bill after they were the ones to never call us back. I would have given them a zero star if I could. Our tankless water heater developed a leak. A Phoenix technician came out and confirmed there was a leak and told me somebody would call with an estimate on a replacement. After two weeks of waiting, I ordered the hot water heater from Lowe's and had another plumber install it. The the plumber charged $250 and the unit cost $1100. The total was less than $1400. I just received a bill from Phoenix $161.25 for the technician's trip to confirm that I had a leak. The estimate on the bill to have the water heater replaced with parts and labor by Phoenix was $4425. Tell me why anyone would hire them ? read more

These guys saved my bacon! A little back story. Our well recently failed for the third time in two years, so I decided it was time to try a new well company. Put out RFQ's at a few places. Received a very complete and accurate quote from Phoenix Mechanical right away. When they said they could get me in within two weeks, I decided they were the best option in town. Their team showed up early (on a Saturday morning!) and got right to it. They pulled 560 feet of pipe, put in a new pump, new motor, new controller, and added 80 more feet of pipe to my well in less than a day! We had 9GPM of water flow (from 640 feet down!) when they left, and it's been working great ever since. Very happy with this company. read more

He was extremely inappropriate verbally and physically with my older cousin who lives in Taos - on MORE THAN ONE occasion. He is absolutely disgusting and I cannot believe no one has complained about him. Probably because he comes on to ladies that live by themselves and are in need of a good plumber, and are willing to turn their cheek in exchange for a decent plumber. During a freeze in Taos, we had a serious problem with the boiler in the casita, made more problematic because we have radiant heating and couldn't allow the pipes to freeze. We called Phoenix Mechanical because we had used them before with a boiler problem in the main house, and weren't surprised to learn that it might take a bit because the cold weather required them to attend to emergencies first. But show up they did (after calling first), and I can't use enough superlatives when discussing their technician, Ronnie. Ronnie saw that the boiler was not lighting, and methodically went through all the potential problems. After running various tests, he eliminated various problems, and then had me go into the casita and turn the thermostats off one by one in the two zones, and diagnosted a problem with one of the zone valves. He found the part in his truck, replaced one of the zone valves, and tested it twice before advising that the problem was fixed. And I can report two days later that it was -- the radiant heating works, the casita is nice and warm, and Ronnie gave some very helpful advice on how to manage expenses when using thermostats with radiant heating. His per hour fee was high, but his efficient work was worth every penny; we've dealt with plumbing problems before, and I don't hesitate to pay when the work is done faster and more efficiently than work dones by less experienced workers. Previous spent thousands with them and thought I could trust them . Sent them to replace a tenants thermostat and when I got the bill I was charged for four hours labor and 3 carbon monoxide detectors(pug in models ) at 52.00 each with out even asking me . Quoted one amount and charged another when our boiler went out. Owner Bob Draper said his employee that quoted us a price was "mistaken" and price increased by thousands of dollars. We felt this was a bait and switch because he knew we had to have it. He said they only do work with an approved quote, so we approved the higher quote. There are no free estimates. I asked for an estimate during COVID. I'm an engineer and knew what I wanted. Four people showed up and proposed something I didn't ask for or want. The tech made an appointment to show up at 7:30 AM. What he didn't tell me was that if he called on the phone when he was on his way and I didn't answer, he would go on to the next call. No one informed me of this policy and it is not stated on their website, apparently customers are just supposed to know their policy without ever being informed. That makes no sense. I missed his call by a couple of minutes so he went on to the next. When we finally spoke he told me he called me 3 times, which was not true, he called me once. When I spoke with his boss he said that they would not reschedule the call and agree to show up, they have all the customers they need, they don't need me as a customer. Wow. So whoever is reading this, I guess they don't need you as a customer either and will treat you poorly if they feel like it. Beware. If you contract with these folks make sure you get an agreement in writing about when they will show up and what their policies are. Apparently they think they are doing everyone a favor if they do their job. The tech actually complained to me, on our call, about his job, suggesting I should be grateful for him to even show up. That's not how I treat my clients. I'm amazed Phoenix is still in business with that attitude. So, these folks are simply not reliable or trustworthy. I fired them. read more

Last month, early one Monday morning, my boiler shut down. I called Phoenix Mechanical. They had originally installed the boiler almost six years ago. They determined that the issue was covered by warranty, and replaced my boiler free of charge. Since moving to Taos, I have used Phoenix Mechanical, both at home, and at my place of employment. This review of Phoenix Mech. is intended to be useful for those who would like to get past the "smokescreen" of "impartial" or "satisfied customers" who've had the misfortune to have dealings with this co. Initially, we called on PM to help us install a new set of appliances for a home we had just moved into. The "service" guy showed up (late and no call ahead) with an incredible negative atitude, p*ssed because the job he was assigned was "below" his "skillsets". This guy took about two hours going over the installation instructions for the appliances and when he finally got started, he only then found out he didn't have the right tool to do a critical step for the install. He then informed me of this and said he would have to re-schedule for another time and get back to the warehouse which was about 20+ miles away, one way, i happened to have the tool and offered it to him which he reluctantly accepted. This job was finally done after a couple more hours. Unbelievably, we were charged for the time it took this guy to go over the instructions and the complete time of his visit, including his time hunting and searching for the tool he ended up not having. As for the atititude mentioned earlier? This guy made it clear to me that this job assigned to him was "below the level of work i am ALWAYS assigned" and advised me to call another company in the future for similiar problems or installations. He also included critiques of his companies assignment policy, using a few choice words, on hearing this i felt like telling him to "hit the road" but after having this guy there for several hours at least and needing the appliances installed i decided to bite my lip and let him finish. After all this: we were charged a COMPLETE service call charge including for the time it took this guy to go over the install instructions and the time it took for his hemming and hawing and searching for the tool he ended up NOT having in his toolbelt. Wow, After hearing the kind and compassionate advert the owner broadcasts on the local airwaves soliciting his business, be aware of what you are getting into when you attempt to schedule this company for work. This doesn't even begin to address the most recent attempt on our part to give this company a second chance and schedule a service call for a hot-water heater that is still on the blink here. It has been a week now since i placed an initial call to attempt to have someone come and look at this and just this a.m. a full week later, i've received a call from the service guy, (again with atitiude) demanding to know where we're located and if this is the residence with the hot water heater problem. I informed him then that we've given up on ever calling on Phoenix Mechanical LLC. for anything further since we've been basically left high and dry by first: the reception person who also has some kind of passive-aggressive hostile (apparently) tendencies, just being nice enough and polite enough on the phone but when it comes to doing something as simple as calling back in the next couple of days to inform us of the delays for this guy to get here, Nada. Second: the service guy who was "the supervisor of the repair crew" as per the officious and "courteous" phone answerer person, which tells me if this is the best Mr. D. has to offer his customer base then again, Caveat emptor as the time tested adage goes. read more

Phoenix Mechanical is the largest plumbing contractor in Taos. About 14 years ago I had them install 4 new space heaters (brand name "Cozy"). Due to recurring flue like symptoms, headache, dizziness, vomiting and Emergency Room visits by my daughter I had the life saving thought of having the heater in her room inspected by Red Wolf Plumbing, who has turned out to be an exceptional small company. What they found was not only highly alarming but outright mind blowing evidence of absolute negligence and dereliction of basic practices of a competent plumber. For starters, the heater was falling off the wall because it was mounted in an infantile manner by screws too short to do any good. This alone contributed to a blow back of carbon monoxide by causing separation of the vent. It did not end there, the heating chamber of the heater had a 12 inch crack causing the heater to pump CO into the room unobstructed. The reason for all of this is that the plumber ignored and neglected the most basic required practice of gas appliance installation, which is that you adjust the burner to Taos elevation of 7,000 feet, since all gas appliances are coming out of factory with burners adjusted to sea level. Consequently the heater ran too hot which had weakened the metal to the point of a structural failure. Subsequent inspection of all heaters revealed that they too had cracks thus contributing to a flood of CO into our home. I have now new heaters, expertly installed by Red Wolf Plumbing. If it were not for my proactive momentary hunch to have the heater inspected, there would be now dead bodies, either from an explosion or from CO poisoning. It was just a matter of days. Most of the health ailments of the last 10 or so years, I and members of my family and guests, can be directly linked to a long term CO exposure. Foolishly, I thought they were caused by aging and now, personally I am getting back to my old healthy ways that I still remember.
