This is a hidden gem in Modesto. Seriously, you may not find this if you weren't looking for a bail bondsmen. It appears to be a former home, and it's definitely a cozy spot, but the staff has always been attentive and friendly. What you came for though, the food. Everything I've had is good here. I love the pho and the vermicelli bowls. They also have all the sauces that you'd ever need at the table (shout out spicy chili sauce one time). Im giving this place two stars based on service and food. It's great that this pho place closes late on a Friday night. I checked us in around 21:00 and didn't get a table for two until 21:45, after being told it's a 15 minute wait. I told the hostess we will wait just outside, she said okay we'll call u once a your table is ready. I notice a couple that came check in 10 minutes after us took our table. I checked and saw she skipped my name twice. The server said she called my name when clearly she didn't. I let that lie go lol. We got a table finally. Took my beautiful girlfriend here to eat for Valentine's Day and had an great meal! The pho is very good and one of the only places in town that has all vegetarian style pho with veggie broth. All the other do chicken broth with veggies in it! The service was great! And the shrimp rolls were perfectly portioned! The damn table kept rocking back and forth though. That was a bit annoying! We were looking to try something new and Phoenix Noodle House didn't disappoint. The service was excellent and so was the food. The shrimp spring rolls were fresh and the peanut dipping sauce was delicious. The shrimp egg rolls were crisp and crunchy, well cooked. We ordered a small Pho and it was a very generous helping. The add ins of basil, bean sprouts, jalepenos, and lime were a savory addition. We also ordered the vermicelli bowl combo. Fresh and delicious. Both had fresh ingredients as well as tasty sauces and hot broth that brought out the flavor of the subtle and not so subtle spices quite well. The sprouts, peppers, and noodles when combined with the broth was quite surprisingly awesome, and there was just enough heat to make it interesting but not overwhelming. Inpho Phor U People, Phellows, & Phelons: Aphter going phunny, and getting more than I could carry, at Modesto's Pharmer's Market yesterday...(it was a real STEAL!)....I had to go get a Phantastic Vietnamese Sandwich phix... ...and post-Bail It is just a phew blocks down the street and the phirst time I had gone on a Saturday...and since I did not bring enough cash phor both Bail & Sandwiches...I stopped in next door to give them one Kidney and one testicle & got only 16 phiggin dollars phor them. Normally, people can get much more phor putting up their internal organs as collateral, but mine are way past their expiration date. Anyway, it was just enough cash phor phour phat phine sandwiches (phour Combos and phour Veges) and some Gasoline to huphph later to get more Phuck up...Phorget posting Bail! So I went into the Phoenix as a Phugetive and it was Phacked with Pheople. I phigured that with one less Kidney, PHO was out oph the question, since I might go into phluid overload...so I stuck with my original Phantastic plan. While waiting to get take-out, another phellow came in who looked kind oph phunny & was on-edge.... Was he a Phellow Phelon out on bail and ready to rob everyone? Well, iph that was the case, I was ready to phight phor my liphe to keep my one and only remaining kidney! To break the ice, I venture, " Phirst time here phool?" He said yes, that he worked next door, and his co-workers told he that the sandwiches were good, but he never had one bephore (but he smelled phony & phull of baloney). So that narrowed it down, he was either a Most Wanted Phelon or a Phat Bail Bond Boy. Whatever he was, I decided it was wise to be phriendly, and give him some pointers about how to properly order a Phat Vietnamese Sandwich. Iph he was a Phelon, then maybe he would spare my now worthless liphe. Iph he was a Bail Bond Boy, maybe he could give me a good deal on one oph my two lungs! I then hit him with my vast Sandwich wisdom! I also inphormed the phool that the sandwiches were.... NOT JUST GOOD, BUT WERE PHANTASTIC PHOOD!..... .......He then bared his teeth, it was either a pathetic attempt at a sardonic grin or he was getting ready to bite me and phoil my plan. I parked my truck at the Modesto truck stop/plaza (which charged me $10 to park, what's up with that? What is with these middle easterners buying up all these mom and pop places? They also become the nastiest places yuck...yuck...yuck). Got my fold up clown bike out and rode it to the Phoenix Noodle a couple miles away. It was well worth the ride. Everything was fresh and delicious. The combination spring rolls were huge. I had the grilled pork and prawn vermicelli bowl and they were not skimpy on their portions. I got a to go box for my 2nd spring roll. I got about a mile away from the Phoenix Noodle and realized rhat i left my spring roll on the table...so bummed. This was probably the best Vietnamese place i have eaten so far in the country. From what i saw of others meals they looked just as good and fresh. The prices were average. Ever since my boyfriend and I discovered this place over a year ago, we find ourselves wanting to come everyday. The only thing that is holding us back is for the fact we live almost 40 minutes away. But, that didn't stop us. We'll come here about 2-3 times a week. The broth of the pho is nothing like I have ever tasted. It's so freaking delicious. It's so delicious that my picky boyfriend (who has the motto of "If it ain't broke, why fix it?" ) actually loves it. I, the adventurous one, asked him if we can just give it one try and that if he doesn't like it, on to the next one... but it surprisingly became our MUST GO place whenever we are in town. We have not tried any other plates but for sure, we will soon. For the minus one star is simply for the service. It's super ... Eh. I sometimes feel rushed by the young waitress. The older lady seems like she knows what she is doing. However, she does lag on checkin up on us (that is ... needing more water, how it tastes //bomb.com// if we need anything else, etc). The young waiter (he's tall and has dark hair) is the best one there, service-wise. Nonetheless, I would love to give this place a 5 star. :D I would suggest avoiding to come here at 11-12:30ish for the lunch rush. It's always full at the time. Other than that, you will always have a seat available. Hence said, I would suggest anyone to give this place a try (whether your a Modesto native or someone from out of town). If you don't like it, it's either you're from the Bay Area (where the best food is at) or something wrong with your taste buds .... Came here on a rainy friday during lunch rush. It was really crowded which was not surprising because everyone loves soup on rainy days. We were told the wait would be 5-10 minutes to be seated, however, it ended up being over 25 minutes until we were seated. Like many other yelpers, I wish service would've been better. I feel that they were a bit unorganized. My dad asked for a small saucer for our sauce but it took them quite a while for them to get back to us. When they did come back, they said they did not have anything for the sauce and gave us a small plate to use instead. The redeeming quality of this place is definitely the food. Regardless of service, the soup was absolutely delicious. Food proportions were insanely massive (not that I'm complaining... you definitely get a good amount for what you pay for). My dad got the bun bo hue, sister got the wonton rice noodle soup, and I got the prawn egg noodle soup. It was so hard to finish overything that we ended up bringing home a ton of leftovers. When we got containers our server offered to put the food in em, so that was nice. My grandma tried the wonton soup leftovers we brought back home and she loved it so much that wanted to go there to eat the very next day! Cheery and festive interior with walls adorned with red and white twinkle lights. We ordered 2x shrimp spring rolls(2 per order), #26 Wor wonton soup, beef chow fun, egg rolls(4), fried banana with coconut ice cream, 2x Vietnamese hot coffee, and hot tea = $37.00 total. With all the rave on the pho here I decided to try it so I had the combination pho, my usual that I have at every pho restaurant I go to. I wasn't impressed. It was bland and too salty. I had to add the hoisin sauce, lime, and pepper sauses to bring some flavor into it. Usually I complain the pho is too beefy but this was just too bland for me. Made me miss the beefy taste. My coworkers had some stir fry noodle dish and chicken curry dish. Both said the chicken dry. Service was your typical service at any Asian restaurant, you're not going to get a smile most of the time but you do get your food in a prompt manner. Lunch is very busy so plan ahead. The sizes of pho is ginormous a small was the size of a medium, a medium was a large, and a large was a 2x large lol you are able to share that amongst 2 people.
