We were referred to Phoenix by our veterinarian as an option to fix our dog's ruptured CCL in his back left leg. They were really great to work with. They communicated, checked in with us pre and post operation. Sr. Millard sat down 1:1 for quite some time to review the issue, options and what the procedure would look like. They gave clear instructions and have to return visits and X-rays included in the cost. We are about two weeks out from the surgery without complications and out dog has been progressing beautifully. We thank them! It is an expensive endeavor but they provided a very clear estimate and breakdown of costs. While we didn't require financial support they provide options if any are needed which is great. Their new location is also very nice, clean and welcoming. My 11 year old dog, Amelia Sue, has oral melanoma cancer. It is an extremely aggressive cancer. She has had to have repeated surgeries, at Phoenix Veterinary Surgical. Dr Heather Mallard, the board certified surgeon expertise in performing the difficult surgeries was amazing. All of the staff team at Phoenix Veterinary Surgical, that helped my baby girl get through these difficult hours were so kind to her and to me. Dr Mallard surgically removed 2 cancer infected lymph nodes and removed 2 cancer infected melanomas. Dr Mallard has checked on Amelia Sue on Saturday's and took time from her home during her personal time to communicate with me in order give me information on the day's surgery. Dr Mallard has been a light in the black harbor of this heart breaking situation, for me. I thank you for everything, Dr Mallard. You saw me in pain and gave me hope. I pray the cancer will not overwhelm Amelia Sue and that all I've done will stop the melanoma cancer from the continued attack on her body. I only want more years with her. I turned to Phoenix Veterinary Surgical Specialists when Bonk, my young cat, suffered unknown trauma that caused fractures to his pelvis and tail. I am a veterinarian, but I knew immediately that Bonk's injuries required specialized surgery beyond my skills if he was to recover meaningful comfort and function. Fortunately, the wonderful doctors and staff were able to see us quickly, and took wonderful care of my little broken cat. Our care was provided by Dr. Ralph Millard and his technician, Jeramiah. They were extremely kind and gentle with Bonk, quickly came up with our treatment plan, answered all my questions, and made me feel very comfortable with entrusting them with Bonk's care. Previously, Dr. Heather Millard has provided surgical care for two of my dogs, and she is highly knowledgeable and capable as well. I have no hesitation in entrusting them with the treatment of my pets. The communication was excellent, with calls/text messages when Bonk was going into surgery, and when he was in recovery. I also received a call two days after surgery to check up on our progress. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the facility is clean, comfortable, and welcoming. Overall, I am very pleased with my experience. Hopefully when we meet again, it will be under less urgent circumstances! read more

Just had cancer surgery for my dog. Not only were the surgeons fantastic, friendly and listened to my concerns, but the entire staff really put me at east and made me feel like family. We recently rescued a 6 month old puppy from a kill shelter in Texas. Shortly after bringing her home, she broke her leg while playing with our other dog. My husband brought her to Phoenix Veterinary Surgical Specialists on a Friday afternoon. We believed we had no other choice but to move forward with the surgery on this day. It was extremely expensive and took place on a Friday afternoon around 12:30 which was considered "after hours" and therefore an additional fee was added to our bill. My husband and I agreed our puppy's health was an investment we were willing to make because after all, we would be loving our girl for the next 15+ years. Dr. Millard performed surgery and placed a bone plate on her leg. We followed the rules exactly. Our pup finished all of her medications and we kept our puppy from running and jumping and took her on short walks. She seemed to be improving. About 3 weeks after surgery she became exhausted and kept laying down during our short walk. We brought her inside and minutes later, she passed away. We couldn't believe it! Her sudden death has left me, my husband, and our three children completely rattled. After her passing, I contacted Phoenix to let them know what happened. They were defensive and said her death wasn't their fault. To be clear, I never placed the blame on the doctors. Blaming wasn't going to bring back our sweet 6 month old girl. I needed to advocate for my family and move forward. I asked Dr. Millard if there was anything they were willing to do financially in light of what happened. I hoped the owners of this self-proclaimed "family business" might feel any amount of empathy, compassion, or humanity and work with us. I was wrong and was turned away. I understand a partial reimbursement isn't something I am entitled to, but I thought maybe the doctors could take a look at the bill and find any amount they would be willing to forgive. Even if it was the "after hours" Friday afternoon fee, we would have been incredibly grateful. They told me to set up a "Go Fund Me" or ask my church for money. Would my 6 month old puppy be alive today if she hadn't broken her leg and had surgery at Phoenix? I believe so. read more
