I've really gotten into film photography over the past year or so. I started with an old Minolta 35mm I found at a yard sale, and I've just recently moved up to a big chonky Mamiya RB67 medium format camera that uses 120 film (featured in my last attached pic). I'm very much a beginner with this stuff, but super excited and enthusiastic to be learning a whole new subset of photographic techniques. With that said, I feel incredibly lucky to have a resource like PhotoLab in the East Bay. The services they offer are great, their prices are competitive, and (most importantly) their team is friendly and helpful and welcoming to a newbie like me. It's also awesome to have a local shop that sells a wide variety of film stocks, and can offer advice on which ones to use to get whatever effect I'm going for. TL;DR: PhotoLab is fantastic!

Over $200 in film developing into negatives

I received helpful, friendly guidance & service when I brought in a large quantity of really old 35 mm film to process into negatives. But when I picked up the negatives and asked for help to view the images so I could decide which ones were worth printing, I was ignored and brushed off for another customer behind me. Then the young lady said VERY rudely: 'I'm helping another customer!' and while that doesn't sound so terrible, it was somehow really upsetting & I got so rattled I had to leave. I did say that I paid them over $200 for the film processing & was hoping to get a little more help. Then I said I was really upset and was going to have to leave without making my order for prints, if they couldn't help me. They offered silence, rather than help, in response. I was frustrated because I couldn't see the images with the light table they offered, so I was just asking if there was a better way to deal with it. Plus, I had this huge role of negatives that kept falling on the floor and I couldn't figure out how to handle them. I paid a little extra to go to this place because it is a small local woman owned business. I'm sure the owner and many of the employees are great, but I just can't go back there because of this one bad encounter.

Best photolab in Berkeley! I love the flexible film drop off process here, fill out the intake form and drop it into the slot in the front entrance. I usually receive my scans in 3days or so. Never had an issue with any wonky development! Prices are pretty standard - $7 for developing color 35mm film and $8 for scans, pro-tip they are running a Yelp check-in promo of $13 for dev+scan, so save yourself a few bucks :)

I was very happy with getting my film developed here. There are a few places around the Oakland Area to get film developed, but I came here because of their $13 check in deal. I filled out an intake form and the worker there took my credit card to put it in their system (they don't do Apple Pay or have a chip reader, you're charged once the film get processed). I got ample help and was very happy with the nice worker. When I was here, I was hoping to get some film as well but they didn't have my favorite 35mm stock due to the film shortage. I got three rolls of film developed here and all the pictures turned out great! The scans were high quality and I love the colors. Turn around time was about 3 days, which was also amazing. I received my photos via a shared drive link, which is great because I was used to bringing a USB whenever I get my film developed... a little inconvenient to have to pick it up again as well. Keep in mind, the link only works once. I tried opening the link on another one of my devices and it didn't work. I did already save the photos to my personal drive, so it was fine. I definitely will be back to develop more photos and hopefully get more film soon.

Had a friend recommend this place after I had a poor experience with a pharmacy development of a disposable camera. Reasonable pricing and great development. Use a proper film lab for development people.

Great, friendly service. Film is totally dead in the town in which I live...I am glad it is still alive here!

I went it and the gentleman helped me. luckily I have saved the pages individually on a flash drive and brought with. He told me some of the formatting was off, but he kindly fixed it for me. We have no record of any estimates or jobs ordered by you," I believe you are tacitly defending a policy that bilks college students out of their money. CC "Regarding your quote, if all you were asking for was printing the files as-is, your cost would be less than $50." And yet, the estimate I got was 3 to 4 times that amount. Now that I've complained, I'm been offered a lower amount. Curious coincidence. "Our most recent estimate is accurate because you asked for formatting 73 individual images, which are all sized differently, and to be printed and trimmed to the same size." Funny thing happened when I attempted to use your self-printing option: you told me I had to use your staff and pay through the nose for the privilege. "It appears you have not taken into account the time it takes to format that many images, but if you believe it's an easy task, please resubmit your files as a print-ready multi-page PDF with bleeds and crop marks." In fact, I did take that into account as I was going to pay to use your Adobe Pro license on one of your computers and where I can do all that myself in less than a half hour. You told me I specifically could not do that in spite that your website specifically states I can. " I'd be happy to discuss with you outside of a public forum, but if this is how you'd like to correspond, I can reply accordingly." Well considering this was your response, yes, I am going to keep this in a public forum so everyone, including, other customers and your staff understand how you operate and how you've treated me. Or, you could promise to conform to company policy and not try to exploit your workers and customers like you have been doing.
