I was looking for a print shop to make reproductions of watercolor paintings. They were friendly, knowledgable, and overall wonderful to work with. The prints turned out excellent - I had to look really carefully to see which was the original and which was a print. I brought in 12 (6 each visit) oil pastel drawings on white background for capture and test prints. I was told there would always be a grayish background. It took 3 weeks for them to get to each order. Each time I spent at least 3 hours color proofing on site with a tech who seemed disgruntled by the color corrections. And I was still left feeling dissatisfied with my prints. So I took my prints to Berkeley Giclee, and within 2 weeks Tony re-scanned all my originals, with no waiting onsite or personal input other than "Can you improve on this?". He also cleared all the backgrounds so that my images popped beautifully (no grayish backgrounds afterall!). All equal to less cost than Candella. I wish I had known about Berkeley Giclee and Tony's superior equipment and dedication from the start. read more

So one of my photographs was recently accepted into a showing and I had to locate an establishment that would print and mount it per specifications asap. I only had a short period of time to do this and frantically searched for a local business that could do this within three days. Through Yelp, I came across Candela. After a series of email communications, they agreed to print and mount my photograph and promised me it would be done by Friday. I uploaded my image via their virtual platform online as a TIFF, which a lot of other online vendors could not support. I just came back from picking it up and seeing my photo on a larger scale and mounted was an interesting perspective since it made it seem more grand than viewing it on my computer screen. The work was perfect and done meticulously, and the gentleman even took the time to insert tissue on the print before placing it between two pieces of cardboard. I was in/out within a span of less than ten minutes, perfect for getting back to work. The business notwithstanding, their space/building is also pretty neat. Reminded me of an old school building or firehouse. For future prints/mounting, I will use Candela moving forward. Candela Fine Art Printing is not a place where you just email images and receive prints in the mail. Brad provides a very personal and collaborative printing experience. In particular, he allowed me to make an appointment to work with him as he printed. It was the first time any of my photos had been printed so I was not sure what to expect. Brad was very patient and sensitive to my desired results and worked hard to make sure the prints were as good as they could be. He was also insightful about ways I can make sure future work is optimized for big printing, and also took the time to explain the equipment he used and even explained some conventions that galleries use for dealing with prints. In a couple of cases there were blemishes that needed correcting which I had missed, having never enlarged to the level that was being asked of these images. Brad found them, took care of them quickly and effectively. The large prints were amazing after the adjustments and I will entrust him with all my printing from now on. I needed some prints for a long term installation in the foyer of an Art Deco building. Brad took some of my medium format negs from a lo-fi camera and made them shine enough to print several 24"x24" stunning prints. As the magnification of print size over the negative size increases, quality tends to go down. Somehow Brad managed to make these large prints look better than the 5 inch proof prints! He really does know the craft inside and out. He's got the tech side mastered and has a great aesthetic sense, an awesome photographer in his own right--you wouldn't trust someone who wasn't to make your photos look great would you? When you print with Brad, you take part in a collaborative session where you work out the kinks in your photos step-by-step until you achieve the absolute best, and truest prints possible. Brad is the best. I'm always paranoid about printing and print shops, but he makes it easy and efficient. I needed a giclee print run of my oil painting and digital painting. I'm super anal about value, color, and print quality, and usually don't trust most people's "critical eye". But, Brad was fantastic! I could easily tell his critical eye wasn't off when we were choosing between proofs and his answers when I asked what he thought. He will take his time to make your print perfect (we went through 4 proofs for one of my paintings, brightening different areas to try to match what my original painting looked like)! The final 11"x14" prints turned out great in every way and the customer service was awesome too. He's quick to emails, phone calls, and texts if there's any change in plans. He even texted me not to park on a certain street because it was street cleaning day. Oh ya, and when he handed off the prints, he even cut tissue paper between each one, so the prints wouldn't rub on each other, Amazing! Fantastic to work with. read more

When I had an upcoming solo photography show a little while back, I decided I wanted large format prints from my digital files. I asked Brad to be my digital guy, and after talking with him about the show and what I had in mind we decided that he would print 30"x40" prints on 40"x56" paper. They were going to be enormous, and I would fill a large space with 12 of these. The prints turned out fantastic. The color rendition turned out great. Prints of that size can be difficult to handle and Brad packaged them very well and I had no problems transporting them confidently. I hung them with no frames and with magnets and the ones I still have left look great to this day. On a side note, he also scanned dozens of my prints and medium format negatives that I used to get into school. The best thing about printing with Brad is Brad.
