We purchased two Tessla batteries from the Photon Brothers San Luis Obispo office around December 2024. One of the selling points was that we would be able to receive a rebate from Central Coast Community Energy (3CE) upon completion of the project. Photon Brothers told us that they would help us with the rebate and application process. Although they did help with the application process, they failed to explain many of the requirements needed to obtain the rebate. For instance, we were never told that we had to program our battery to discharge at least 50% of its capacity daily during peak hours for a two-week period while 3CE would monitor the battery system. Upon completion of the application it stalled, because we did not know about this requirement. At least half a dozen phone calls were made to 3CE to try and figure why we were not getting our rebate. It took us over a year to figure this out, with NO HELP from Photon Brothers. Their response was something akin to, "This is between you and 3CE." A simple explanation would have relieved us of much aggravation. We finally received our rebate in March of 2026, well over a year from when we first applied. In addition, we never received instructions from Photon Brothers on how to use the Tessla App to maximum the benefits of the battery system. When we would call Photon Brothers for help with the App, sometimes we received assistance, while other times, no one called us back. We watched the Tessla Battery videos and did not find them helpful. In conclusion, we are disappointed with the lack of support received from Photon Brothers. read more

Our experience with Photon Brothers- we call them Photon Bros was not good. Their installers smoked and cussed around my children, and they left their cigarette butts and trash in my yard. They also let their ladders, tools, and dirty hands drag along my walls. We had to repaint the hallway and ceiling when they left...which took them a long time to do. The whole project took nearly a year! Their electrical engineers also messed something up. Post install, we're constantly having problems with the circuits in the house. We chose Photon Brothers because I thought that choosing a local company would give us a better result, but we only just got to pay more. And the reason they get two stars instead of one is because they did make my electricity bill lower. read more

Photon Bros. installed my solar system several years ago and I never had any problems/issues during or after the completion of the project. Then, Tesla recalled the Powerwall-2 batteries because of a fire risk. While it took a while to get going, Photon came yesterday and completed the battery replacement, just as thorough and professional as with the initial project. Things went great, until they didn't. Ryan "Monty" Montgomery was great but when he left, trouble started. First system was great, so I expanded. The install of the second system caused the entire system to completely fail on three separate non consecutive days. They told me the new Tesla expansion packs were often defective and might need to be replaced. They came out two or three times and eventually got it running again. But then they refused to tell me what they did. Dave, the owner, even denied that anything ever went wrong. Then he threatened not to honor the warranty. I had an issue with my battery back up system. It was rather complicated according to the technician and the service coordinator Jake who really worked hard to get things back working. He made arrangements with the local technicians and local business to address my problem. Initially, Theo came out and cleared one of the major problems that was going on with the initial installation. Theo was amazing in this expertise and knowledge and dealing with the problem. He did solve the problem. I did have another issue just after that which appears to be a failure of the battery Wi-Fi system that was also very difficult to diagnose. RUBEN came to my house and spent several hours troubleshooting the problem. He finally discovered the problem and corrected it and now the system is running perfectly. I want to thank Photon Brothers for an excellent job in their installation and standing behind their product with their service organization. I recently (April 2024) had Photon Brothers install solar panels and a Testla battery at my home. Photon Brothers are an excellent company with great customer service and a highly trained planning and installation crew. Our Solar Consultant Cameron and Project Manager Andrew provided me with great information without pressure, and answered all of my questions so I knew what to expect every step of the way. Their prices were highly competitive. Their planning crew paid close attention to details that others might have missed. Their installation crew was really great also, triple checking that everything was done correctly. I couldn't be happier with the results. It looks great and I'm looking forward to having PG&E come out and make the final inspection and connection. These people are so bad at what they do, they make Southern CA Edison look efficient. I ordered powerwalls to be installed with my existing system. They installed the powerwall, but had to submit and application to SCE for a Socket Adptor to be installed. They submitted an incomplete application on April 22, 2025. Photon was notified on April 25 that the application was incomplete, and they did nothing. I called Photon throughout the month of May, and was told it was SCE's problem. After complaints to SCE, and the Public Utilites Commission, I got a response from SCE showing me the documentation that Photon Brothers had been notified on April and had not submitted a corrected application. ON June 2nd I sent the documation to Photon Brothers and they said, yes it was their fault and they would get on it right away. It is now June 12 and nothing has been done. IF YOU CHOSE TO GET WORK DONE BY THEM, DO NOT PAY UNTIL THE SYSTEM IS RUNNING AND THE WORK IS COMPLETE. They insisted on 95% payment when construction was done, do not make that mistake. Do not trust these people, they lie and cheat. I don't expect the battery back ups will ever be working, unless I can find an new contractor to finish the work, Photon Brothers company slogan should be "take the money and run". read more

We had two Tesla Powerwalls installed. We signed up in January. They came out to take measurements and photographs of our garage. When we received approval we paid $17,100. Several months went by waiting for the County to approve. Finally, work was approved and they came out in May. The crew spent three days. We paid the final balance without problems. I am now waiting for a date the county will come out and approve the work. The two things I did not like: 1). I spent the better part of a day cleaning the garage walls of fingerprints from the installers, and filling in nail holes from framed posters that I had hanging. 2). Our Nest thermostat had a problem and I had to figure out the electrical panel. I shut everything down and essentially rebooted the system and it is working. 3). The project manager is bad at communicating. I will be away June and gave him the travel dates so no inspections by the County could be done. There was no return response or message. read more

I am a qualified recipient for California SGIP program to receive Free Solar System and Batteries. After initially, Amir Ahmadi a sales associate collected all information on me and SEC bill and Green dot usage fraudulently informed me that I am qualified for SGIP incentive and made me believe time is of the essence because of the SGIP funds could run out. I have been waiting to hear from them for last Eight weeks leaving messages and attempted to reach them four times and hear that they are going to get back to me soon and at the last call to the supervisor Natasha she informed me very rudely that they cannot and are not going to help me without explaining the reason and hang up on me. Amir Ahmadi a sales associate who seems to be a nice and informative nothing he has informed on was true. Please don't trust a word come out of his mouth. They drag you with hope to sell you an almost $60,000 solar package and they don't even file application for SGIP program. They are not to be trusted watch them and don't spend and waste time with Photon Brother. Very Disappointed because, they have not even filed application for SGIP. read more

One thing we learned about Photon Brs is they have a person dedicated to rebates. Over the last 4 months Layla has been VERY helpful with obtaining rebates from PGE and 3CE. From the start with our sales presentation by Eva which was informative and gave all details and answered our questions. Andrew was assigned as our project manager. He kept everything on track and answered my questions all along the way. The whole project plan was given to me and it showed the time-line for each phase. Installation day came and the crew worked like a well oiled machine. Everyone knew their tasks and worked together as a Great Team. I installed my Solar Panels in 2018 with Photon Brothers and have been very happy with them. I recently received an email from Solar Edge, who are the manufacturers of my Inverter, informing me that my cell kit had to be upgraded since the previous service was being discontinued. Their advice was to call my installers. Jake Brann of Photon Brothers was extremely helpful in this regard and informed me that since my inverter was an older model, the new replacement cell kit needed to be ordered. In the end, we are very happy with Photon Brothers. They installed a tesla power wall. There were some delays and changes in management which delayed the install and caused early frustration, but this cleared up and the result is excellent. Andrew Cavinta was responsive whenever I needed an update. They gave me an installation date and were here that morning ready to install. He always answered my calls which is RARE these days. The installers were really nice and did a great job and were respectful. Theo Earl came by on his own time to help us trouble shoot right after the installation. Layla has been diligent with getting our battery rebate. Unfortunately, the system was installed just after our two day power outage, but we have had one small power outage since and it worked beautifully. We already had Solar and the combo of the power wall and our solar system is great. The system is very easy to use and fun to see how much you are generating and using. We are in storm watch situation right now and the system automatically is pulling from the grid to fully charge the power wall in case we have another power outage. We could not be happier with the solar energy system installed by Photon Brothers in San Luis Obispo. The products are top notch. We had 16 Rec-N-Peak panels installed together with Enphase IQ7 micro-inverters and an Enphase IQ Combiner that allows us to monitor electrical production, consumption and net energy metering throughout the day. See pictures (below) from the Enlighten monitoring application. The system was perfectly sized based on our upcoming purchase of an electric vehicle and our anticipated use of air conditioning as temperatures continue to creep higher. We fully expect to benefit slightly from net energy metering during the year-end true-up. Just completed the install, test, PTO and received the final closeout package from Photon Bros. I could not be more pleased with the knowledge, conduct, support and professionalism of this company. From the project management (Andrew), through the design and install (Lucas and his team), testing and inspections, and an absolute superstar rebate coordinator (Layla), this group is on top of the solar system industry. I have been in the space business for ~40 years, and a NASA engineer for the past ~35 years. I understand this technology (and it's components) and the system they built for me satisfied all of my requirements. They were patient, approachable and always there for questions and concerns. I did pursue the PG&E self-generated incentive program in which a large portion of the system cost was reduced (PG&E rebate). That took a couple months to jump through those PG&E hoops, but was well worth it. In the end we were able to add an additional Tesla Power wall to the storage system, thus enabling us to fully power our home (and electric vehicle), while being able to sell back power to the PG&E grid. Our carbon footprint has been drastically reduced, and is due to great extent to the Photon Brothers team. read more

We started the process of getting a quote back in September of 2022. From start to finish we got approved in July 2023 after 3 inspections. Getting the quote was fine. A bit slow. But it happened. Then the contract came. Read your contracts people because the one we signed was not even for the system we asked for. I just happened to notice that it had no battery backup included, and less panels, despite us discussing it very comprehensively prior to the contract being made. They immediately fixed it, and got us a new, correct contract. We signed it. We paid half. The months went by and it was April. Yes, I will give them that some of it was not their fault because we had literally the rainiest season we have had in years. But after the rain stopped, we still heard nothing. I had to email several times asking about our installation because we had paid them over 20k, heard nothing, and were paying our electric bill and our loan. For 2 months. Their little blurb on their website about "keeping us informed every step of the way" is completely laughable because it's so far off base. Then we got the system installed. The installation team were great. Their work is beautiful, we have almost no complaints there. The panels look wonderful. Everything works as it should. We get the amount of power that the panels are supposed to provide. Communication has been frustrating. Literally months would go by where we heard nothing. No one checked in with us. No one reassured us. No one told us anything about what was happening until we emailed them numerous times. I was warned by a friend who used this company too that they are bad communicators, and boy were they not kidding. A month goes by and we hear nothing about when our inspection will be. Email them. It gets scheduled. Great! Then it is cancelled. No one called me to tell me anything, which is extremely annoying. If you have a schedule change, you need to be CALLING PEOPLE to tell them, not emailing them. Also, where is a call to let us know the inspection times? So then another month goes by and I email twice to ask when it will be re-scheduled. Magically that day of the second email, they tell me the following week. Because they didn't do it until right then. I know because the calendar is public and I've been looking at it for a month seeing if our house was on there yet. Then the inspector confirmed this by telling us it does not take over a month for that, it takes a few days. He was horrified that we had been waiting so long and told us there is no way it takes that long at all. Inspection is not approved because there are dangling wires. First off, we were told incorrectly that they would "just" look in the garage and that we don't need to be home. Which doesn't sound right because an inspection SHOULD look at the panels on the roof. Also the paperwork from the county literally states that they need an Osha Approved Ladder because they are going to look at the stuff on the roof. They came back out the next day, fixed everything. Then the second inspection happened the next week. Now we were told we had to have a heat detector, because the CA laws changed. So they installed that. Third time is a charm and it passes. I'm still trying to get a price emailed to me for what we paid for our powerwall. I need it to submit for a rebate from PGE and that's only good through December of this year. I emailed them on July 19th. Heard back from accounting that they don't have the price. Was told to email the person we consulted with. Did that. Still nothing. So basically, communication is the HUGE sticking point here and is so so frustrating. When you're paying someone over 50K for a service, you would think they could at least communicate in a timely manner. Everyone is nice and I think they are great people, and the work is good. But they really really really need someone whose job it is to just communicate with customers because that's not happening and you end up feeling like you're just left out to dry which is not great. As of August 28th, they still ignored my email and never bothered getting back to me with the information that I asked for. I was able to find the price buried in the contract that we signed. But the lack of communication is really unprofessional. read more

We purchased a property that had an existing solar array installed by Photon. Brothers. The inverter seems to be broken as no solar power is going to the grid and the inverters readout is blank. We called Photo Brothers to make a service call. After sending them multiple pictures of the inverter they refused to make a service call or evento return our calls. They also handled the permit process with the county and agreements with PG&E including the aggregation of a second meter on our property with the primary one and a REM 2.0 agreement. If I could give this company zero stars I would. Just so you have an idea of our set up: My husband and I put in approximately a 70 panel ground mount for our 10acre property...The entire process has been difficult from, extreme lack of communication, to sending personal financial information with the wrong person via email. I will say that the contractor who actually did the digging and poured the concrete for the project was good but he is not actually an employee of photon bros, I would imagine that is why he is good. Photon bros gave us multiple excuses; turn over, Covid, PGE, Solar edge... when it comes down to it they just dropped the ball completely. The person originally working with us on our loan is the only person who acknowledged that and now, big surprise, doesn't work with the company anymore. It has been close to two years and I'm still dealing with most of these issues. Battery doesn't work, Solar isn't aggregated, no communication (unless I reach out), people showing up with no notice to take more pictures of how things aren't working, paying for Solar panels and still have a huge electricity bill(for a year).... I have waited quite a while to leave a review in hopes that there would be some saving grace. At this point I think it may take legal action to get anywhere. I highly suggest looking into a different Solar company but, if this is your last viable option, I'm sorry. To photon brothers: most people do not understand Solar, more communication, even if it is bad news, is better than nothing at all. I should not have to reach out to you and beg you to finish what you started. read more

We decided to use Photon Brothers because they were the cheapest bid we received out of all other bids and decidedly went with them for that reason. Unfortunately, the phrase "you get what you pay for" is true. After paying hundreds of thousands to get the project finished, they have completely abandoned our project. We have tried multiple times emailing them to no avail. They will constantly ask for you to pay and pay and pay according to the pay schedule and when they get their money, they will stop responding. At this time we are at a crucial point in our project. The infrastructure has been built, however Photon Brothers has completely abandoned the project. After calling PG&E, PG&E stated they are waiting on Photon Brothers to send them a letter to get the solar panels up and working. PG&E has been trying to contact Maddie, but she has failed to follow up with them and now we have completely missed the summer months to collect any solar. I want to give a fair warning to those who want to install commercial solar panels with this company. Be prepared for them to persistently ask for payment, not follow-up with any status updates unless you beg for them, and for them not to complete your project after you have paid them hundreds of thousands of dollars.
