We were visiting from out of town when my daughter woke up with an ear infection. We googled the nearest urgent care and this came up. They did not take my insurance and the out of pocket fee was about $165 but honestly, it was worth it. They took amazing care of my daughter and her ear infection and asthma and even gave us suggestions on places to visit in Chicago. The staff was wonderful and caring and efficient. We were in and out in under 40 minutes from start to finish. The NP and her staff did a wonderful job and definitely recommend this location. They also catered to children and had coloring books available for them.

I visited this Physicians Immediate Care location for employment reasons such as for a urinalysis, tuberculosis and influenza (flu) vaccine for my new job. I chose this particular location because it was the closest to my neighborhood on the westside of Chicago, and for possible future visits during or outside of work. I am also very familiar with the Bucktown / Wicker Park area. I have to say that parking at this location is designed more as a neighborhood location; it is about the size for a small number of customers at a time. As for entering the building, I was required to state my purpose for visiting along with my information for confirmation. Once I was cleared, it was requested that I sanitize my hands before opening the clear double door. Nothing flashy about the interior inside; it consisted of chairs, two benches and a flat screen television to keep you comfortable and occupied as you wait to be seen by the physician. A thorough yet mutual process was my experience at this location. Mutual meaning the physician requested me to visually watch what he was doing to account for integrity which was fine by me. All in all, I had a pleasant experience at this Physicians Immediate Care location, but for future visits I plan to set my appointment ahead of time versus walk-in in order to prevent the long wait to be seen by the physician. There was the option for it, but the times listed were hours out, so I chose to walk-in instead. ~Blessings~ Thomas G

So far so good. They efficiently removed a foreign particle from my eye. It feels so much better and I'm glad I went in. Did all the things they should and listened to all my questions. Thank you!

Fast, caring, efficient. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. They did a flu and covid test on me and provided a note for work.

$160 just to walk in the door. They're not upfront about these costs. All I had was a vivid and strep test. Cost $300. I'd rather die.

Everyone I've spoken with at the location have been professional and friendly. However, their records accessibility policy is ridiculous. They use a version of Epic (the most common software in the US) for their EHR. However, they do not offer a patient portal. Epic's portal is called MyChart and is offered by basically every major provider who uses Epic. Even their competitor CVS Minute Clinic offers MyChart records access. I once called to ask Physicians Immediate Care to send my health records to my PCP. I was told they charge a fee for this, basically because they can, and when I asked the person I was speaking with why they don't use MyChart they actually told me "because the records belong to us". In fact, failing to offer one seems to be in opposition to the Meaningful Use portion of EHR Incentive Program Stage 3. Maybe they don't take advantage of any of the Medicare and Medicaid incentives? I don't know, but failing to offer a patient portal strikes me as hopelessly anachronous. The message I get is they are so greedy for every cent they charge a fee to send records when seemingly everyone else offers online portal access for free. Records copying fees are "allowed" in many states, but are part of laws passed long ago when records were on paper and people had to physically photocopy them. So I tend to avoid Physicians Immediate Care now and go to CVS.

I'm going to summarize my experience with MEC and and let anyone who reads this come to their own…read moreconclusion as to whether this company provides sufficient or professional medical care to their patients. I rolled my ankle pretty badly and there was severe swelling and pain, so I went into the Lakeview East location to be assessed for severity and be given a treatment plan. When I was first seen, the physician's demeanor was fine / neutral, but also nothing that particularly instilled confidence in me that they were actively dedicated to do their best to diagnose and treat my injury. He prodded my ankle a bit but didn't verbalize what he was or wasn't seeing, then ultimately said "I mean there's no way to rule out whether there's a break unless we do an x-ray, but that's up to you". Despite the fact that this wasn't a particularly prescriptive pov, out of caution I agreed to do the x-ray. I also had to ask what degree of mobility I should aim for in the meantime as I am an active person and he said "do what you can, but don't try to run a marathon or anything". This was confusing to me as he suspected a potential break, yet told me it was okay for me to attempt activity. When he offered to wrap my ankle with an ACE wrap, I asked if there were any particular things I should know on how to wrap an ankle and he said "no, not really". Mind you, I am not a medical professional, but I have enough common sense to know that all of these responses were extremely non-chalant and not in the best interest of my medical care. After getting my x-rays done, the technician said the radiologist should have them back to the physician who saw me in an hour and he'll call me with the results and give me next steps. This was at 9am, and I didn't hear from them all day. I called back at 5pm knowing they closed at 6pm, and they said "oh oops, he hasn't had a chance to look at them yet but he'll take a look and call you before he leaves for the day", but they never called. The next morning I called and asked for my x-ray results, where the person who answered the phone was able to immediately look at my chart and tell me I had broken my ankle and would need to be in a boot for 4-6 weeks. They offered nothing further, as though that was the end of the conversation. I was pretty shocked at their lack of providing guidance as to how I go about treating this. I had to proactively ask them if they were able to provide a boot, if they would be sending me a recap of the xray findings. She then agreed that I could come in and be fitted for a boot. When I came in, all she said to me was "you'll need to wear this for 4-6 weeks and then come back for a follow up xray so we can see if it's healed". Again, I was pretty frustrated by the lack of medical guidance. I had to ask how long throughout the day I should wear the boot, and if I should be seeing any other rehab doctors in the meantime as I have a friend who's a Doctor of Physical Therapy who recommended I see an Orthopedic doctor for further assessment. The physician responds "I mean, there's not much you can do right now so it won't help much". I then requested if I could get a copy of my x-ray scans. She told me that their location didn't have an x-ray technician in, and I needed to talk to the front desk to see when they would be in next. After speaking to the girl at the front desk, she told me they were unable to share the files digitally and that the x-ray tech at a different location would need to download them onto a USB port. She said I could go to Wicker Park as they had an x-ray tech that day. So I drive over, and when I tell the guy at the front desk he makes a confused face and says "well...I don't know why they would tell you that, but we can put it on a CD for you?". At this point, his demeanor was suggesting it was weird that I would even want to see my x-ray scans in the first place. I asked if there was no way to send them digitally, and he said no. Mind you, I had a chest x-ray done by them three years ago and they shared the scans digitally. He then says "they could have burned the CD for you, so I really don't know why they sent you here. If you want the scans, it'll take 15 minutes." So I said something was better than nothing and waited for the CD, and when the technician came out they just handed me the disc and walked away. So....if that is the level of care and medical professionalism you are looking for, go ahead and get treated by Midwest Express.

The biggest pro is that everyone is very personable, and the MA & doctor both had excellent bedside manner. It was genuinely a good experience while I was being looked at. Took my wife in who was dealing with high fever, sore throat, and not feeling well. They took a culture sample to see if any results for strep throat would come back. Sent her home to take Tylenol and Mucinex DM. A day and a half later my wife was feeling worse and I called back and they recommended she go back again, but would have to pay another follow up fee (even though we had to make a co-pay our visit - and they took our insurance as well). I explained to the nurse practitioner that we talked to that we already paid our co-pay and that my wife is not feeling well and requested if we could get some antibiotics. We have now been waiting for three days to get results in with no answer. I just called twice this morning to speak to a head practitioner only to be on hold for a total of 20 minutes. I am finally giving up and heading over to rush hospital. Very disappointing.
