The vibes are here but it all stops there…read more.. Let me start by saying that I love this place. Just needs a bit of cleaning up on their transparency. The 'keep it open' policy is something I appreciate but would also appreciate an itemized receipt when you close out. Here's why to keep your eye out when drinking at this establishment. 1- when you close out, it's helpful to verify what you consumed to ensure you're corrected charged. My receipt was the merchant copy and the customer copy. Itemized? Really had to ask for it. 2- the merchant copy - it asked for a tip and the total amount. When we closed out our beer and well drink, it was ~$28. Weird, right? So my thought was that they clearly charged something incorrect. 3- when there's something automatically charged, it had better be communicated to me upfront. The gratuity was automatically added and IT WAS 20%! No sign, no way to notify me that it was already added. It didn't even say so on the merchant or customer copy. On top of that, the copy asked for AN ADDITIONAL TIP. For something like that, I had better get great service. 4- The service here is spotty at best. There's usually one bartender for the often busy bar. Not a problem, usually. But with that high of a price, better serve your customers well and have a fully stocked bar. 5 - the options were lacking. Two things you'd think would be stocked but weren't - espresso (come on, even Kahlua) and apple liqueur for an espresso martini and appletini were too much to ask for, I guess. Overall, a disappointment. Good thing they have the vibes nearly right. But awful business practices.

We had…read morebreakfast here the morning of our last day in Monterey, this breakfast was a great farewell. The restaurant itself is relatively upscale for a hotel but has a warm vibe. The Belgian waffle is a must- it's decadent, the berries are fresh and the whipped cream is cloud-like and sweet. The American breakfast was hearty and filling. The bacon was perfectly chewy, salty and cooked. The Yukon potatoes were crispy and had a good level of spice. The eggs were super fluffy as well. The sourdough was warm and the butter was creamy. Our server was extremely kind and was ON IT when it came to refills and making good conversation, super kind and made sure to check on us consistently.

Let's start with the wins: the service was genuinely excellent -- attentive, warm, professional. The Old Fashioned was well-crafted, and major props to the bar program for stocking Nochino. That's a detail that signals someone behind the bar actually cares. The food, though? It missed. The fish was overcooked and the presentation felt like an afterthought. For a restaurant at this price point and in this setting, I expected more -- both on the plate and on the plate. You can forgive a lot in a restaurant when everything else sings. But the food is the whole point, and this one didn't deliver. Worth a drink at the bar. Skip dinner and eat somewhere else in Monterey.

Lala Grill in Monterey is the place to be if you want to turn a meal into a memorable fiesta! We…read morerolled in with a crew of 25 hungry folks, and let me tell you, we made quite the entrance. I wish I'd taken more pictures, but I was too busy trying to keep my eyes off the delicious food that was about to land on our table. Now, let's talk about the wait for our food--it felt like watching paint dry, but in the best way possible. Seriously, our stomachs were growling louder than a rock concert! But if the long wait had a soundtrack, it was the sound of our group "Dugging" (yes, you read that right!). Everyone was so excited that we could have been mistaken for a bunch of starving lions ready to pounce on a buffet. And when the food finally arrived? Oh boy, it was like the heavens opened up and dropped down a feast fit for royalty! High-fives all around! The flavors were so good, I almost forgot my name. The cioppino Flawless. The steak A masterpiece. I think I even saw some of my friends weeping tears of joy between bites. In conclusion, if you're in Monterey and want to experience a meal that will leave your taste buds dancing, head over to Lala Grill. Just be prepared to wait a bit--because good things come to those who wait, and trust me, this is worth every second. Bravo, Lala Grill! You've earned yourself a standing ovation!

Asked him the origin of their raw oysters, he answered impatiently that they came from California. The blackened Sandabs and salmon tasted good, but not the mash potatoes which taste like bleach, or the yellowish rotten looking asparagus. Won't go there again

Husband has Cioppino, I had the special, and my 2 granddaughters each had the clam chowder in a bowl. We had 2 appetizers . Tomato Bruschetta, and the focaccia bread. Both delicious! The cioppino bowl was huge. My husband only ate 1/2. So much seafood in it. My special was bass and shrimp. Served with pineapple salsa, guacamole, peppers, rice, green beans and tortillas. It was so good. Only complaint was the green beans. I believe they were Hericovert beans. Just a little too hard. I think that was the best clam chowder we've ever had in all the years of visiting Monterey. Every server, waiter & even host/manager gave us the best service! We could have sat for hours enjoying the view and talking to Pablo and the others. If you're going to Monterey, don't leave without eating there !

Overlooking Monterey Bay what more could one ask for when it comes to ambience, it is pretty hard to beat. Service is top notch; pleasant and attentive without being overbearing, great wait staff. A tip of the hat to these unsung heroes. Food--try the Schooners seafood salad, it is packed with crab, a couple jumbo shrimp and Ahi tuna on a bed of mixed greens, sliced carrots and (I think jicama) and it is all married to a soft, delicate, slightly sweet sesame dressing. To add some fun to this meal, order up some Schooners french fries on the side--now you are as close to heaven as you can get.
