We started with the Clam Chowder bread bowl, Brussel Sprouts appetizer, and the Dungeness Crab Dip. All 3 were excellent. I love Brussel Sprouts and order it anytime I see it in a menu. This was one of the best I've had. I like that it was more on the shredded side so it could cook evenly. (I hate when places halve the sprouts, but then don't bake it through. These were cooked to perfection here.) The crab dip was amazing...it's the morning after as I'm typing this and my daughter is still raving about the crab dip. We all agreed that it was worthy of the price tag bc there was a good amount of real crab in it. We really enjoyed the taste and texture. We wished there were more of the garlic bread for dipping! We waited for the clam chowder bread bowl to arrive, and tore into it so we could use that to dip! It would be a shame to order a burger when in Monterey so I made sure I ordered something from the ocean on the other side of the glass of the seat next to us. I got the Cioppino, wife got the Crab Pasta and the kids got Fish N Chips + Chicken Tenders. I was very surprised to see a generous amount of crab in my soup. At some places, you get a claw and check that box off but not here. In addition to the real crab, there was a few giant shrimp, mussels, clams, fish, and calamari. Man...everything was very fresh and delicious. I would even have to probably say the best I've ever had! The soup was seasoned to perfection and not too tart. My wife's crab pasta was also very good! I shared mine with her and we swapped for a bit just to sample other dishes here. The kids plates were also high quality as expected from this nice restaurant inside the Monterey Plaza Hotel. I'd rate this as 3.5-4 stars. I was a guest at the hotel for a conference and had dinner here on two occasions. The view from the patio dining here is exceptional! But... The night I checked in was a little disappointing since there wasn't anyone at the host stand to assist. I requested the crab benedict the first day and the avocado toast the second. The benedict was a little disappointing and tasted liked canned crab instead of fresh. It was a hefty portion though and I liked the cornbread muffin in lieu of an english muffin. The avocado toast was much more flavorful and I added on the poached eggs (2 for $6). The pickled onions packed a punch and the tiny bottles of tabasco added the right amount of heat. I was interested in the juices but was told that it was not freshly squeezed, so decided against it. Having a wonderful dinner the night before, I made reservations earlier to have lunch on a Saturday here with friends who joined me for the rest of my trip. We were greeted by Jesse who also greeted me at Coastal Kitchen the previous evening next door. We were seated in the outdoor patio area with a full view of the bay on an overcast early afternoon. When we sat down to study the menu, one guest mentioned wanting to order the everything but we exercised restraint. Food and the views! Just wow! We got there around 9am on a Friday morning, no wait. We chose to sit outside on the patio closest to the end so we could have some nice views of the bay. It was such a beautiful day too, no clouds in the sky. I had a sweet tooth that morning so I ordered the Belgian waffle with a side of eggs and bacon. You get 4 big slices of bacon and I honestly wanted to eat them all. Great quality bacon! The waffle paired well with the strawberries and cream. So service was slow and we didn't finish dinner until after 7! They do a great job of heating the outdoor dining though so you can enjoy the awesome ocean views! Food wise was pretty mediocre for the price. Oysters 3.5/5 These were just ok oysters. Nothing to write home about and the mignonette was just ok. Also had shells in some. Ceviche 3/5 Had bell peppers in it. Made the flavor off and def would've been tastier with lime. Also needed more salt. Cesar salad 3.5/5 Salad was okay as well. Needed more anchovy flavor in the dressing and just no seasoned enough. Grilled octopus 2/5 The octopus was not cooked well leaving it chewy and mealy. The cream sauce clashed with the red sauce. Would not get again. Scallop entree 4/5 Tastiest thing we ate, cooked well and seasoned well. Short rib entree 3.5/5 Short rib was super tender but needed more salt. Bell peppers again were added to this dish and really really clashed with the flavors. Mashed potatoes were nice and buttery. I had a bread bowl for dinner as well and can possibly have enough to say about it. I would rate it in the top of the clam chowder that I've ever had. Staff was quick and friendly. The food was very good. Fish and chips were crispy and full of flavor. We ate every bit of that bread bowl. It was delicious. 5/5 -Service was great! Our server was very attentive and accommodating. When my bourbon of choice wasn't on the bar menu, she inquired about the notes to see if they had a one similar. We were able to find one to my liking. I appreciated that. 4/5 -Ambiance- They offer indoor/outdoor options. We chose to be seated outdoors overlooking the water. Be mindful of outdoor patrons being a bit overzealous about viewing the sea lions, seals and birds. One guy kept bumping and reaching over our table attempting to take pictures and another lady was feeding the birds. I was, lowkey, hoping she'd get caught. 4/5 Food- The food was good. I had the braised short ribs with a side of Brussels sprouts with berries. My daughter had short rib pasta. She didn't like the Brussels sprouts but I did. Overall we enjoyed our meal. read more

My wife & I were on a romantic getaway the days after new years 2026 and we were looking for a seafood pasta in the Monterey area. Thanks to Yelp we found the perfect seafood pasta at Schooners. It was and still is the greatest seafood pasta we've ever had. We just came back for lunch a few days ago but the schooners seafood pasta was not on the menu so we ordered the ciopino. It was so delicious and was made extra tasty when our server Sean recommended the kids pasta with some parmesan after we asked for noodles. We're hoping to be back this September and hopefully the seafood pasta will be back on the menu read more
