For those interested in the move-in process, it was relatively seamless. I was able to reserve the freight elevator and use the back alleyway for unloading. While the building itself is OLD, it is in remarkable shape. The units and facilities have all been recently updated; the quality of the appliances and renovations in my unit leave little to be desired. The only maintenance request I filed for a window AC unit was fulfilled the next day. I will say that I have had several concerns that other reviewers have shared about this property. I raised those concerns with the head of maintenance and building staff and learned that my concerns were already addressed or in the process of being handled. So, while Montclair might not be communicating to tenants that they are addressing our concerns, they are being handled. Some highlights from my first four months: - The main elevators were only down for maintenance once, and the service elevator was still available. - I was only here for one fire alarm, which occurred in the middle of the night. I have raised concerns about fire safety devices and procedures in the building, all of which are being handled. - I have raised concerns about lighting outside the building. Some lights have been replaced, with more planned for replacement. - There have been two occasions where there was a fly infestation in the laundry facilities. I was told this was due to a leak. Both times, the flies were removed using traps. The traps were effective. I much prefer the traps to an extermination solution as the facilities were still usable during the removal of the flies, and no harmful chemicals were used. - Montclair has hosted several events since I lived here, including complimentary wine Wednesdays, complimentary breakfasts, and a balloon glow watch party on the roof. The events always have a good turnout, and everyone I have met at the events has been great. Disclaimer: while I was not a tenant when another tenant was robbed at gunpoint in the building, I inquired about the incident upon moving-in. Since the incident, the exterior doors have been programmed to lock faster. There are already exterior cameras. As someone who understands the building owners cannot prevent crime in the area, I am satisfied with what they are doing to deter it from the property. Overall, I am satisfied with my experience at Montclair. I am happy with my unit as well as the staff, who has accommodated every request I have had. The reason for the four star review is the lack of communication with tenants. I would suggest to other tenants that they take the time to meet the building staff and bring forth their concerns. I believe Montclair will listen. Since my lease is a year long, I will update this review as things change. I am also be happy to reply to specific questions on my review.

Week 3 sewage flood: Right after those initial repairs wrapped up and I finally started settling in, a massive plumbing failure caused contaminated water to back up and completely flood the apartment. Over the past three years this complex has taken a huge dive down into the level of unacceptable conditions. It appears they will just about rent to anyone just to put people in apartments without any regard for adjoining tenants. The tenants above us were so noisy it was a contributing factor to our decision to get away. It was constant noise. If you make the mistake of choosing this place you will be alarmed at the apathy coming from their office personnel. Any questions we had was a bother to them. At one time they tried everything except the right thing when we were dealing with an extremely noisy bathroom fan. Once they even bent the blades to "fix" it. They never did fix our ice maker in the whole time we were there. Security is a huge issue as we were alerted to kids kicking on doors during the night. Unattended children walking onto private patios was a problem. A gate at the back of the property was never locked allowing strangers on city streets to walk right into the complex. Dumpsters were constantly overflowing and infested with raccoons. Watch out! Don't get bit. The property managers along with the office manager and staff are completely indifferent to your concerns and appear to try to get by with the minimum amount of work. In summation, save yourself the time of going here to visit or renting here. Some reviews from other apartments seem like past tenants were just getting back at their former landlords. THIS is not one of those. It is an HONEST review of what we put up with. We never knew how could it could be now that we are in our new place. These people have it figured out here. The information provided about the program was unclear, and I felt that the benefits and qualifications were not communicated accurately or consistently. The overall impression I received was that first responders are not valued in the way the marketing materials suggest. Potential renters who are considering Tesson Ridge because of the Hometown Hero Program should ask detailed questions and obtain all terms and conditions in writing before making a decision. After owning 7 homes, we decided to free ourselves from those concerns and burdens. As the saying goes, "been there, done that". We chose instead to become apartment residents. Before selecting our forever home, we researched and checked out 26 apartment complexes in the St. Louis area, and found TR absolutely unique. It's beauty is remarkable, and the amenities are unsurpassed. Most importantly, unlike nearly all residential neighborhoods today, it's truly a community, where residents who choose to participate have the opportunity to come together to share friendship and an enormous range of activities and social events, supported and encouraged by personable professional management. My wife and I are people people, and we've always had many friends wherever we've lived. However, in the 2 short years we've lived at TR, we know more people than anywhere else we've ever lived, and have many many lovely friends. Now that I am out, I can anonymously share what tenants are dealing with due to the new owners…read more Here are a few of the specific complaints from tenants who have been residents of these properties for 3 to nearly 20 years (identifying attributes removed or generalized for anonymity): These new owners are ATROCIOUS. WITHOUT NOTICE, the new owners now allow dogs which one tenant is extremely allergic to, causing them to go on medication due to the new pets in their building and the smell/hair/dander in the carpeted hallway. Another cannot cope with the incessant barking heard coming from the adjacent building. The grass and grounds where children had played are now covered in yellow stained spots from urine and feces of the animals (note: feces is being cleaned up but the damage to the grass is still happening). Dumpsters impede the full use of the driveway. THERE IS NO COMMUNICATION ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE DOING. The new owners are allowing new and disrespectful tenants who scream at all hours of the day and night and slam doors to where the entire building and those on the street can hear - they seem to take anyone now. Non-residents/workers are leaving doors unlocked and propped open after they depart. One tenant pays for a parking spot but someone else is regularly in it, assumed to be a hired worker. They never told one tenant about the construction and they work from home and were unable to run a very important meeting for work due to the non-stop drilling noise. Attempts have been made, without notice, to enter a unit while a minor child was home alone. One tenant is extremely sensitive to pesticide and would vacate for a couple days when the previous owner notified them of a treatment. NO NOTICE was given when the new owners treated, causing this tenant to pass out in their kitchen in front of their small child who didn't know what to do. Poison control was called and the treating company refused to provide the type of chemical used that day without authorization from the building owner. NO ADVANCE NOTICE is being given of construction and apartment entry, causing numerous tenants to experience unknown contractor knocks and entry into units last minute. Notices are no longer posted in the buildings in advance or at each tenant's door. The new owners said there would be drop boxes installed to submit rent - that never happened. An email notice was sent to one tenant the day after the email said they would be entering the tenant's unit - which required the tenant to execute several tasks they were unable to do and it was during the holidays. Non-residents are now entering the buildings and "snooping" through different areas that were previously secured and are now being left open - damage to the property has occurred. The "upgrades" may look nice at first but they are really cheap and remove any historical charm the units previously had. The "improvements" are done so poorly and are cheap and nothing matches, the new paint is already peeling off and you can see through the paint because it needed primer or another coat. There is a new tenant who must have serious mental health issues and there is a concern for children because they are making "demonic dolls" and "shrines" and putting stacks of full beer cans in odd locations in their walkways. Hopefully these owners can take this as constructive criticism to improve their communication and screening process since the tenants don't feel comfortable speaking up about their individual experiences outside of hallway and sidewalk conversations.

While living at Steelyard, my unit faced the side of the street near the middle school and the noise coming from the schoolyard was very intense. Every day at 9 am and 4 pm I heard a symphony of busses reversing into their respective spots in the parking lot as they made the "backup beep" noise. I was not informed of this when touring the unit, but after moving in, many of my neighbors mentioned the same issues. I am a very sound sleeper, but was not able to sleep through this. I also work from home and spend the majority of my day on virtual meetings or phone calls. My managers mentioned being able to hear the background noise to me more than once. Additionally, you will frequently hear gunshots on the weekends followed by an onslaught of sirens. Marijuana scent is rampant in the halls and elevator shafts. The cameras in the lobby and mailroom do not work 100% of the time, as I have chatted with the police department in the lobby quite frequently about crimes that take place on the premises. I have also had multiple packages "lost", that I can only assume were stolen. Wifi is ghastly slow and you will pay a very large fee to have it tacked onto your rent along with other amenities that are included in most rents (or left up to the tenant to provide for themselves separately) as per industry standard. For the amount of money I paid here to live in such a small, one bedroom unit, I expect much more. However, if you don't scare easily, you may be attracted to the speedy maintenance, lovely pool, and state of the art gym. I don't feel that this building is safe or a good value. You can get much more for your money elsewhere in downtown St. Louis. I'm happy to be moving out!

The gym also looked amazing--there's a separate fitness room where they have a virtual digital fitness trainer that you can sync your device for. Parking is also free (1 car per apartment unit). It's also walking distance from the Richmond Heights Community Center and Library!

I am now a resident and it has been one of the best decisions I've made in life. I'm surrounded by great restaurants (SugarFire is in the same building). The Arch is minutes away and I am 1 (one)minute from the Dome and 5 minutes (walking) from the Cardinal Stadium.
