Unprofessional, careless, and combative…read more I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for your painting needs. Working with this company was a stressful experience from start to finish. Poor Communication & Absent Management: Communication across the board--with both the owner, Ibsan, and his crew--was frustrating. I was asked for my color choices 10 times despite them being explicitly included in my original quote, and to make matters worse, Ibsan and his crew kept telling me they would have to charge me extra for different finishes. Messy Worksite & Property Damage: Throughout the entire project, the crew constantly left our property in disarray, scattering tools, paint cans, and trash across our front, back, and side yards. They also damaged our attic vents and refused to take responsibility, claiming the damage was pre-existing. Worst of all, the crew never fully cleaned up--I still have tons of paint chips and paint drops scattered around. Complete Disregard for Property Protection: I specifically emphasized how important it was to properly block off the soffit vents over my garage, as I store a lot of items in there alongside a new vehicle. All they did was cover them with a thin layer of masking tape, which blew right off during pressure washing. Instead of fixing it, Hugo, the foreman, kept right on power washing directly into the open vents and literally laughed when I brought it to his attention. Sloppy Workmanship & Cut Corners: Their prep was very inconsistent across the board. While they did an excellent job on stucco patching and prep, basic surface prep like scraping and sanding elsewhere was really inconsistent, leaving an uneven finish in several areas. Right on day 1, the crew wasn't even planning to use a commercial mold remover despite visible mold present. Hugo argued with me, as he did throughout the project; while Ibsan agreed to handle it, he simply returned with a consumer-grade cleaner, and they only bothered to treat my rain gutters. Gaslighting & Constant Pushback: Whenever I pointed out a clear mistake, the crew blamed pre-existing conditions--even when I showed "before" photos proving otherwise. Getting basic issues addressed required pressing them repeatedly. Hugo tried to convince me that I should "just trust the professional painter" and spent three days arguing to leave an unmasked, un-prepped window frame they accidentally painted--an issue that ultimately took just 5 minutes to remove the paint that shouldn't have been there in the first place. Ignoring Instructions & Insubordination: The most absurd moment of the entire job happened on our porch. While applying a specialized product they admitted they had never used before, Hugo and I discussed the plan earlier in the day, which called for a 4-hour dry time between coats per the label instructions. Yet just an hour after he applied it, he started applying a second coat anyway. When I caught this and directly asked him to stop, he completely ignored my instructions, feeding me some nonsense line about "letting the product talk to him"--clearly rushing to finish the job so they wouldn't have to return the next day as discussed. He refused to stop working on my own property and literally kept painting right in front of me until I had to call Ibsan to intervene. It was completely mind-boggling--if Ibsan hadn't answered, my next call was to the police. To cap it all off, after that major altercation with the foreman, Ibsan promised to call the next day to address what had happened, but clearly didn't care enough to call. To be fair, the end result looks pretty good as long as you don't get too close, but there were much cheaper bids that would have accomplished the same thing and likely with a lot less stress. If you're not willing to constantly fight and push for what you want, avoid them entirely. Save yourself the headache and hire a team that respects your home, your contract, and basic professional standards.

Our project manager, Aaron Milne, quickly responded to our questions and concerns. His quote was complete in that he included details about all the repairs we requested of him: repair cracks in the stucco, stain and seal our front door, and paint our back deck. He explained to us the types of paints that were available from Sherwin-Williams, Cartwright's supplier. He priced the project competitively and when I called him to discuss his competitors' prices he made some adjustments. We obtained estimates from two other licensed, and three unlicensed, painting contractors. We spoke by phone with multiple references for two of Cartwright's competitors. Cartwright's references were as good as or better than the other companys' references. In addition, whereas Cartwright gave us a complete and final quote, their competitors' quotes all varied in price and completeness. For example, some competitors required us to buy the paint before the project was to begin whereas others would buy it if they were reimbursed before work commenced. In other cases, all other competitors incomplete quotes by not responding to our specific requests. Cartwright's quote was complete and businesslike. They have a net 30-day contract with their paint suppliers which means that they only asked us for a 10% down payment before they started work. The balance was due upon satisfactory completion of the project. We were pleased with the professionalism and friendliness of our painting crew, Aurelio and Ramiro. We are grateful to them for having taken time to show us three different paint schemes on our house. They painted three swathes of our trim and walls in the front and back of the house. This was determinant in our color selection. Our crew worked diligently throughout the five and a half days it took to complete the project. Moreover, they worked during the first week of July, 2024, the hottest this year. We often spoke with Aurelio about taking time for rest breaks. We agreed to earlier start times on several hot days. They always started work on the shadiest side before painting other parts of the house. Aurelio's work on our front door was most impressive because it was a singular challenge. He is a master painter. Aurelio and Ramiro sanded the wood until it was completely bare, and then they stained the doors over two days before adding a final polyurethane finish.
