Wow. I wish there was a rating lower than one star. Sadly, there's not. I made reservations months in advance to fish on Monday, September 16 in Stanley, Idaho, on the Salmon River. The booking agent at Picabo insured me that my guide, Zack Mayhew, would pick me up in front of my hotel, Red River Inn, in Stanley, and that he would call me the day before my trip. Zack called me at 8:30 pm the night of the 15th, and basically told me that the river was "blown out", and not enough water to fish it from a drift boat. This was a complete fabrication, as driftboats on the 16th were going down the Salmon River from my vantage point. So, if I wanted to fish on that Monday, I could get in my truck and turn around and drive back down through the valley an hour-and-and-half to rendezvous with him. This is not what I signed up for. I never received any phone calls from the management at Picabo apologizing to me. I'm under the impression they don't even guide on the Salmon River. It is too far north for them. So I was left, after driving from Bend, Oregon, to Stanley, Idaho, with no guide. I called the fly shop myself the following day and got a young man on the phone who tried to make it sound like it was my fault and I misunderstood. Really? He told me he would tell his management staff about me being stranded in Stanley, but I never heard a word back. How sad they couldn't even take the time to reach out to me. We ate lunch there yesterday; cheeseburger, chicken strips and a taco salad and the food was delicious! We were so hungry and it looked so good - there wasn't even time for food photos. The grill is also part of a fishing store, coffee shop and gift shop and they all go together really well! The place has a lot of charm and we would definitely recommend it for lunch, coffee or snacks! read more

Annika guided my Spouse and adult Daughter yesterday at the Silver Creek Preserve. They raved about her, she was FANTASTIC! Both anglers had a very fun day in float tubes (which they had no experience using). Annika was knowledgeable, friendly, supportive, fun and they both hooked and landed fish. While our Daughter is a more avid angler, my Spouse is not as familiar with roll casting from a low position. Annika helped her learn a new casting technique. Thank you Annika! read more

Small, clean, grassy. Each site has a very nice picnic table. Some have fire-pits. The driveways are long and it's easy to back in. There's 30/50 amp, and water. Dump station is free for guests. The price is reasonable, especially in high summer. read more

I had the BLT with fries and husband had the bacon cheeseburger with fries. I really enjoyed the sandwich and the fries especially with the thousand island dressing as a dip. Husband said the burger was okay but he did inhale it and the fries so I assume he enjoyed it. Cute little spot to get a nice light meal. Service was quick and friendly. read more

I grew up in Boise in the '50s and fished all the trout streams from the Boise in Boise and up in Anderson Ranch to Silver Creek to the Little Salmon to the Council and every where between. Haven't fished for many years but the memories of this place are indelible...Had many a fine burger and fries here while buying a day's flies and getting a new line put on my Orvis. read more

Breakfast was great. Atmosphere was unique with Western tables and chairs made from barrels, horseshoes, and cattle brands on table tops. Service was good. Small place--gift shop and post office all in one building. read more

Hidden gem! We stayed in their small (and beautiful!) RV Park the night before and wandered into the angler store to check things out in the morning. They have a small cafe in the back that serves /amazing/ food! This is one of those places where everyone will say 'the quality starts in the ingredients, and they're fresh!' We had their breakfast burritos (delicious!), and their coffee was the best I've had in Idaho so far! I haven't tried their lunch menu, but I've snagged a few pics from their fb page, and I am definitely going to eat here every time I drive by! All the people in the store and fly shop are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. I spent a day on the water with Brian my guide and I couldn't have been any more pleased. Not only does he know Silver Creek like the back of hand he ties his own flies uniquely geared to the hatches on Silver Creek. I have fished a lot around the country but learned so much from Brian about drifting a dry on to catch fish on the creek. His technique helped me hook fish after fish. HIs attention to detail was incredible. He noticed that fish were feeding off of one bug when i was casting in one direction and another when i cased in another. He switched my flies for each direction. I would highly recommend Brian whether you are a veteran or a novice. By the way Silver Creek is extremely picturesque. read more

Good news and bad news. First the bad. After booking a day with one of their fishing guides, I called again to inquire as to the possibility of booking an additional 1/2 day trip with a different guide. The person with whom I spoke, Cole, and I agreed that the guide would call me to discuss whether or not I would indeed book for the additional 1/2 day. A guide, Christian, phoned me and I let him know I wouldn't need the additional half day. He told me that I had made a credit card deposit, which I had not, and that I was now late cancelling and would be liable for several hundred dollars. I told him there must have been some misunderstanding and he agreed to talk with the guide service. I did not hear back from him or the guide service. Several days later I discovered the guide service had saved my credit card information from a prior authorization and had charged it again to the tune of $350.00 for the 1/2 day trip I had never authorized nor utilized. Interestingly, when I was in the shop a few days later, no one mentioned anything about this. I had to find out by scrutinizing the charges on my credit card. Not Nice. The good news is that the full days guide service which I actually booked was a great experience. The guide, Andrew, was knowledgeable, professional, and did a great job of guiding us on Silver Creek. I recommend his services but certainly not the business practices of Picabo Angler. Unfortunately, I am left with a pretty bad taste in my mouth and won't be returning nor recommending their business to my friends. read more

Great stop for lunch located between mammoth caves and craters of moon national monument. Food was great and they had a cool general store. Nicely laid out store with almost anything you could need or may have forgotten for your fishing trip of a lifetime. The small counter grill tucked in the back corner offered standard burger fare, and a small breakfast menu but I ended up disappointed by the canned mushrooms and lack of tomato on the mushroom and swiss. Stopped in for lunch while working in the area. Very nice atmosphere, they have a tackle shop as well as snacks and drinks. The food was excellent. I had the bacon cheeseburger and my son had the Turkey BLT. The staff was very nice and welcoming, we will definitely stop here again. read more

Took an all-day Ladies Fly Fishing clinic from Chad at Picabo Angler this past week. It was fantastic! He is fun, knowledgeable and an amazing instructor. He is definitely able to assess everyone's different skill level/ability to accommodate accordingly. Wes, from the fly shop joined mid afternoon for even more hands-on assistance. This is the best restaurant in town!!! It is also the only restaurant in town. I just returned from a fly fishing trip setup through the Picabo Angler and had an amazing time. The convenience store is nice and clean and had a grill counter in the back. The food is not 5 star restaurant style, but the thing I had over several meals was very good for a quick service small town diner. The staff was very friendly. The fishing store and guide service are housed in the same building and are also too notch. They have a nice array of fly fishing equipment and knowledgeable staff. The 2 guides I worked with (Nick and Zac) were top notch, and I heard great reports about the other guides as well from other people who were on our trip. I would highly recommend any of the services this store/shop has to offer. read more

Full service business! We stayed at the RV park across the street from the store. Small, clean with roomy spaces, green grass, picnic tables and fire ring which we didn't use; too cold. $30 price was great. Didn't check out bathrooms. WiFi didn't come in and was confusing to try and sign on, instructions at check in could have been better. No Verizon service for calls, some texts came through. Great location for fishing Silver Creek and Big Wood River. Store was very well stocked, nice coffee bar. We didn't eat at the cafe, but it looked great. We enjoyed the wood stove and WiFi in the store. Wish I got her name, but the store clerk was wonderful; cheerful, funny and helpful taking the time to point out information on nearby sights and happenings. The real shining star here was the fly fishing guide portion of the place; in particular their guide Cody. He took us out on an amazing 1/2 day adventure we will not soon forget. Not only did we catch fish (big, beautiful rainbow trout and browns), we saw some gorgeous country and most importantly, we learned SO MUCH from him. He showed endless patience and knowledge in helping both of us improve our skills. He helped my intermediate level husband undo bad habits and refine his cast as well as helped beginner level me understand reading water, fish behavior and setting that damn hook! His passion and knowledge for fishing and the outdoors is deep and apparent. Thank you Cody and Picabo Anglers for making our stay with you one of the most memorable of our 2 month Northwest trip! read more
