Stopped at the Sun Valley Club to try out their 18-Hole Putting Course and had an absolutely blast! If you have the opportunity to play this course, I would highly suggest it. Even a non-golfer like myself had such a wonderful time amongst the rest of my husband and his family who do enjoy golfing as a hobby. The views are absolutely stunning!! After enjoying the putting course, we decided to stop into the restaurant for a quick bite to eat. If you're able to sit outside in good weather, I would highly suggest it! It is quite serene out on the patio, and once again, you can't beat the mountain views! My husband and I shared the Crispy Chicken Sandwich with the kettle chips and a side Caesar Salad. To our surprise, it also came with pickles which are always a necessity for a good lunch sandwich. They were nice enough to cut the sandwich in half and split the chips and pickles after we indicated that we were sharing the dish. The Crispy Chicken Sandwich was exactly that - criiiiispy! The breading had an exceptional crunch to it. The sandwich also offered a unique twist to it and had a maple gastrique sauce that added a touch of sweetness to it. My husband really enjoyed the sweetness, while I on the other hand, decidedly would have preferred it more savory. I ordered it knowing that it would have the sauce on it, so that's definitely a personal preference remark; the sandwich was still delicious! The Caesar Salad was a pretty standard Caesar. I did enjoy the freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano on it, but the dish could have stood to have a couple more croutons. A success with this dish was in the flavor - from what I could tell, this dressing was made in-house and it tasted very much anchovy forward. It added a brininess/saltiness that very clearly stood out to make it taste like it was not bottled. I also enjoyed a nice Kentucky Mule which was a nice, refreshing addition to the meal and to the day, on the whole! The experience was enjoyable here! I have never had a restaurant manager who was so rude. We sat down at 12:05 and did not get served until 12:50. Our server disappeared so I went to to the hostess stand to inquire about our food. The manager came out and told us it had been only 22 minutes since our food was ordered. But, it had been over 45 minutes since we sat down. Rather than apologize, she treated us poorly. Looking at previous reviews, I'm shocked to see such a low rating because this has become our favorite place for lunch in the wood river valley. The view is fantastic thanks to large full length windows with a rustic wood burning fireplace in the center. You can easily see Dollar Mountain from most seats, which is as pretty to look at in summer as in winter. The sandwiches and salads are top notch, my favorite being the Southwest Chicken Salad, made up of a perfect blend of lettuce, avocado, grilled chicken topped with corn, tortilla strips and a mango salsa with house made southwest ranch. Our favorite waiter, Jack, has been with the resort for years, and now splits his time between marketing and entertaining guests at the club. He's friendly, fast and knows more about the area than I could think of questions to ask. To top it off, the meal is followed with a complimentary warm chocolate chip cookie that always seems like it came straight from the oven to your table. Perhaps things were different in the past, clearly they learned from their mistakes and pulled a perfect 180. Five stars. read more

So, it was Christmas eve and we had dinner resos for 7:30. I got up at 8:30 to find our server to ask why we hadn't gotten our starters yet. The deal is that they only serve dinner 4 times a year. Well, that isn't a good enough excuse. Apparently, they had taken more reservations then the kitchen could make food. This is the reason for the 2 stars. We bailed after the starters as we weren't going to eat rack of lamb, or roasted duck breast at 9:30!! The squash soup and blue cheese/pear salad were wonderful. We were there in September so we were able to sit outside on the patio overlooking the golf course and Dollar Mountain. That alone is worth the visit but the food was fabulous. I got the Crab Louie salad and it was so loaded with crab and other good things that I couldn't finish it which broke my heart. Everything on the plate was fresh and delicious - huge pieces of crab. Dressing was delicious. Husband had a Ruben which he did eat every morsel of!! Service was great - she kept refilling glasses and was very attentive. Beautiful setting, whether you sit outdoors or inside, and good food. I had the chicken flatbread for lunch, which is actually an appetizer, but the portion was huge--so much that I couldn't finish. It's a great place to stop after doing the trails just across the road from the Sun Valley resort. Oh, and with you check comes a complimentary large, warm, gooey chocolate chip cookie. Second time in a row we had very slow and bad service. Plus food was poorly prepared. My chicken was overdone to the point I could hardly cut in with my knife and it was ice cold and tasted like it was several days in the fridge. Plus the tahini salad it was on was under dressed and took 20 minutes to get more dressing. They got the order wrong on one of my table mates dish and the fries were cold and hard. My husband's BLT toast was cold and very little tomato. Plus they over charged us on the kid's $10 burger by $6. Then to top it off, I was sick to my stomach for two hours after we left. Met a friend here for nibbles and drinks. Brought my 11 year old and luckily the slider plate made her very happy, but finding a waiter was the biggest trick. They were totally under staffed and the poor waitress was running all over the club to help people and it was hard to even place an order. It didn't even look all that busy to me where we sat on the patio, but I never looked inside to see if something big was going on here. We went to the Sun Valley Club for lunch with a party of seven adults and two toddlers. They handled the large party well, pushing two tables together, and our drink order was handled fairly quickly. Unfortunately, that's where the positive experience ended. It took almost 45 minutes for our meals to arrive and the food was subpar. Portions of each person's meal were cold (my husband had a cold burger, I had cold fries), two orders of the same salad had wildly different ingredients (one had quite a bit of avocado, the other had none), burgers were cooked well done despite orders to the contrary, and my burger had the wrong kind of cheese. Given how long it had taken to receive the food and the presence of two toddlers, we weren't able to send the food back and instead were stuck with terrible food at a very high price. Temperature issues aside, the food quality still wasn't particularly good and it was certainly overpriced. read more
