Another great year of Piccolo Mondo (and Manager Nora) saving me time and money on family birthday and holiday gifts. In years past, I've always shopped in-store but started doing curbside last year when COVID hit. This year I did all my Christmas shopping for family kiddos online and had them delivered (free of charge if you live 10 miles or less from the store and your order is over $25) to my house. Personally delivered by Nora. I usually check the catalog I get in the mail, then go online to find if what I want is in-stock. Their website has been updated and it is so much easier to find the items you want. Much more intuitive and easy to navigate. There's a tad of a learning curve specifying that you want an item gift wrapped via their order form but a phone call to the store cleared that up immediately. Everything I wanted was rung up, gift wrapped FOR FREE, and delivered almost faster than I could put on my shoes and drive to the store. No parking hassle or being exposed to other people either. I love that I can shop locally and NOT at a Big Box store. Pretty competitive pricing as well. Usually there's a coupon for 10-15% off your purchase in the catalog, so that helps save a few dollars also. I'm a customer for life! read more

*UPDATED* I witnessed a deeply disturbing incident at this store on July 21, 2026, at the Hillsboro location. I am providing the detailed experience to all Picoolo Mondo Toy stores, since they are owned by the same individual. While shopping, my son, his friend, and a few other children of color were loudly yelled at, falsely accused of damaging merchandise, and kicked out by a grown male staff member. When I intervened and demanded to know what proof he had, the employee admitted he had absolutely no camera footage and did not witness anything himself. He based his aggressive accusations entirely on blind assumption. Worse yet, there were several white children of the exact same age group in the back of the store who were completely ignored by staff while the children of color were targeted, humiliated, and ordered to leave. When the employee realized I was a parent and called out his lack of evidence, he tried to backtrack, apologized, and said my son could stay. I refused this unacceptable double standard. No child should be subjected to racial profiling, public humiliation, or hostile staff. Piccolo Mondo Toys has permanently lost our families business. In response to Michelle, the owner, see below. Michelle, I received your response and am deeply disappointed by your refusal to acknowledge the clear racial bias and systemic failures present in how your employee handled this situation. Your investigation completely misses the core of my complaint and relies on a defense that does not hold up to basic scrutiny. First, your video review notes that "one member of the group" separated and opened merchandise. My son and his friend did not walk into the store with that group, do not know them, and are entirely unassociated with them. Your employee did not take the time to distinguish between individual human beings. Instead, he saw multiple children of color in his store, treated them as an identical monolith, and weaponized collective punishment to banish them all. Grouping completely unrelated children together based solely on their shared minority race is, by definition, racial profiling. Second, your response reveals a glaring admission: your cameras did not actually capture anyone opening a package. Lingering in a corner is not a crime. Your employee explicitly admitted to me on the sales floor that he had not seen anyone open merchandise and had not checked the cameras before screaming at the children. He acted entirely on a hostile assumption, and your reliance on circumstantial evidence after the fact does not retroactively justify his aggressive verbal assault on innocent kids who had just walked through your doors. Third, you have completely ignored the severe psychological and emotional harm your employee caused to children who had absolutely nothing to do with this alleged incident. By publicly shouting at, falsely accusing, and expelling innocent children, your employee subjected them to intense public humiliation and trauma. This sends a deeply damaging and dangerous message to children of color: that they are automatically viewed as guilty by association, that their innocence does not matter, and that they are not safe or welcome in public spaces. This hostile environment forces children of color to navigate community spaces with fear and anxiety, carrying the heavy burden of being viewed as suspects by default. Fourth, your response completely ignores the double standard I witnessed firsthand. The defensive tone of your response proves that your store is not yet safe for children of color, as your management prefers to protect an aggressive employee rather than protect young community members from public humiliation. My son deserved an individual apology. The Hillsboro community deserves better. read more

I love buying smiskis here they always have them, except more recently they don't have them for some reason. Please bring them back. The service is very good the staff are nice and they even have a smiski box full of smiskis u can switch out if u don't get one u like. This place sells smiskis for the cheapest ( $10 ) as other places are 20$ or even 15$ so I always come here for them. The selection of toys is a lot and it's always nice to walk around the store to see what they have. read more

Piccolo Mondo is a GEM. When we first moved here from FL in 2016, I thought "oh just another boutique/bougie place for kids toys." But OH no y'all. Not so. It is stocked with great toys and 90% of their items are the same price as at other retailers AND the big online giant. Of course there are items which are more expensive, and generally speaking, if they're more than $5 higher in price I'll go to the other spot. Otherwise, the rewards and gift wrapping win it for me. The staff is SO friendly and welcoming and I LOVE that this spot is in my neighborhood! read more

The selection is incredible! I discovered a few brands I was unfamiliar with which was fun. The prices are typical for a small business. You will pay more but I enjoy supporting them and the staff are kind. I appreciate they do fundraisers for my child's charter school. Definitely worth shopping here! read more

Piccolo Mondo makes you shopping easy. There are two ways I have enjoyed this store. First, in person where I can browse and ask questions. Staff is always helpful and the store is logically laid out. Puzzles are in the back like milk in grocery stores! :) Second, during Covid with curbside pick up and delivery. I have taken advantage of their Easter baskets and Christmas stocking services. I don't have the energy to do the research and pick a variety of items and seeing my kiddos open their baskets and being just as surprised as them is a real treat! read more

Super disappointed in my experience here. We came in looking to shop at local toy store to buy toys to donate for Christmas. They had 4 employees in the store but no one said a word to us besides, please use the hand sanitizer. I had picked out a couple toys and wanted to be able to start a pile somewhere but couldn't get anyone to help me. Two associates walked right by me and didn't even say a word. I even stood at the register waiting for someone to acknowledge me. Nope....no one. With everything the way this year had been I was really wanting to shop local, but apparently they are too busy for customers. I came in here a while ago and heard about their game library where you can rent games for free and tried to over the Winter holiday but they stopped the service for that time. I am back and with an event coming, I stopped in today (Saturday) afternoon and wanted to get the details. When walking in I wasn't greeted but saw 2 female employees at the counter talking, one male employee organizing or checking shelves. I went to the game section but had no idea what to look for and went up to the front. One of the girls, gave me recommendations for games and took me to the game area to explain them and asked further questions on who would be playing the game and age groups. Her suggestions seemed great as upon checking out the other fenale employee raved about one of the games (Go nuts for Donuts). While the girls were getting my games for me in the back, it seemed that the owner who was outside doing a display table asked if I needed any gift wrapping done. I said I didn't but found that awesome, the store doing gift wrapping too. Membership is required to rent out games, it is free and only need your name and phone number . It is a one week rental and it doesn't seem that they are too strict on that rule. You do get points and rewards if you purchase items at the store too. They have an array of not only games, but toys, books, scooters, and so much more! I believe they have workbooks and tools for teachers too. Definitely excited to see how games go with everyone and hope to come back and continue to use this rental service. read more

I love toy stores. This store is dedicated to the more natural type of toys that are environmentally friendly. There are some things that do not fit that description but more often than not. My mission three week ago was to find some uniquely US made toys that were constructed of natural materials. These became presents for Belana and Fabian, my German buddies children. I noticed this store opened recently as I was walking past it on my way home. So my daughter and I went in just to check it out. On the surface I thought it looked pretty good. They had Legos, Hex bugs, stuffed animals, and some others I don't remember. All seemed to be at reasonable prices. We didn't buy anything or interact with the staff, but the store displays and atmosphere were good with high ceilings and good lighting. I will definite go back when I need something. read more

The Christmas presents arrived this morning, in time for Christmas! The little packages were identified and beautifully wrapped and ribboned. All I have to do is tag and put them under the tree. I found Piccolo Mondo Toys when looking for a toy brand I could not find locally here in Virginia. I couldn't be happier. I like the website where one can set up wish lists, which I have done for each of my grandchildren. And, you should experience the gift wrapping, which allows event (Christmas, birthday, etc.), gender, etc. The receipt is thorough and complete, with the wrapping instructions included. The website is enticing in its selection of items. Wish I could transport myself and grandchildren for a personal visit. read more

Wonderful toy store that my children adore! Love that they've offered free local delivery with everything going on and we've taken our children here a number of times since they opened back up from the Covid closure. They have clean pointers for kids to use to point to toys they like, rather than touching them, and limit the number of small groups inside at a time. There's hardly any more toy stores open anymore so happy to see this one still around. I had called asking if they sold growth chart after failing to locate any other store that carried the item. They had it and was nice enough to describe to me the different options, tell me pricing (cheaper than Amazon!), and was even honest with me that one had a damaged corner (which was hardly noticeable upon me actually seeing it myself but was nice they were forthcoming with that info as to not waste my time). Furthermore, the personnel on the phone offered to put it on hold for me and indeed, it was put aside for me. And the free gift wrap was such a nice touch. What a nice service to have. Made me feel like I stepped foot in time where services like that was still prevalent and made the experience so special. read more

After my third time here, I like the layout and lighting of this one more than the Bethany, it's just not as cluttered and much easier to find stuff in. I usually just take a walk around the store to see if there is anything I want for my little ones, they're a few years apart so there are a lot of hand me down and I always have to consider what I want new. The prices of things can be too steep for me but I was strictly looking at educational toys for a one year old, and there wasn't too big of a selection and a bit too pricey. Other items have decent prices though, so when I don't have to be so picky, it will be easier to purchase. Ladies are nice here, they never ask if I need help finding stuff but are nice when I'm purchasing. Good place to come and keep it local. read more

Unlike all the other reviews we had a bad experience. My husband and 2 young boys went in here recently. We left after the old white hair lady (probably the owner) kept her eyes on us the whole time. Ever where we went she was staring at my boys. We felt terrible. I will not be going back and I plan on writing more reviews on this store. This was our second bad experience with her at the store. Great local toy store! We live down the road so I often take my daughter in to play with the toys and pick out a little treat. Big selection for a small store, including many of our personal favorites like Melissa and Doug and Calico Critters. Wide variety of price points and age ranges if you're gift shopping and I believe they offer complimentary gift wrapping (we've never taken advantage of it). Lots of board games too. Staff has always been friendly and helpful. A very nice toy shopping experience that feels much more fun than going to a big box retailer. read more

This is a new location in the Progress Ridge shopping center. It feels a little bit smaller than the Bethany Village location, but they're pretty comparable. Obviously this store can't compete with Toys R Us in the quantity department, but for it's size, this store packs a lot of punch. Lots of cool toys and games of the non-electronic variety, so it's definitely geared towards kids 10 and under, although I'm sure older kids could find something in here as well. My daughter loves Calico Critters and they have a section devoted to that, so she's happy. The staff did an excellent job gift wrapping the toys I purchased for FREE! What a great service that is, since I hate gift wrapping, plus they did a way better job wrapping than I ever could. read more

Great store with amazing selection of toys and games. Staff is also great. I used to work at the frozen yogurt place nearby and I would come in here frequently during my breaks. They would always help me find what I needed, whether it be a gift for my sister, a fun game for my family, or even a gift for my mom! They have everything. One time I bought a game with batteries and it wasn't working so I took it back and they exchanged it for free! Awesome store that is well staffed and cares about each customer. I think they even have summer classes for kids now that school is out. The employees are great. Whenever I need something, Isaac is always there to help. He has great knowledge about the games and seems to know exactly where everything is and has great recommendations. Very friendly and a great employee.
