The place is much bigger than we expected from the street view. They have a nice patio in the back, but the tent cover is not complete and it can get cold in the evening. The drink orders were taken right away, but the salads took a long time to come. The entrees even longer. We shared the piccolo salad to start. It was a nice light salad with a nice raspberry vinaigrette dressing. The entrees were not as good. One order was the filet of sole francese. It was a large portion that was very bland. The guest asked for spaghetti with pesto and it had way too much oil. The ribeye steak had a powerful odor, was over spiced and a bit dry. The guest ordered the steak with salt and pepper but they put on other spices that were very hot. The salmon special was a bit over cooked and the seafood combination was good overall, but the salmon was a bit dry. The chocolate truffle was great as was the bomba. The waiter asked the steak eater how everything was and he was told the steak smelled, it was too spicy and dry. The chef did not respond to the complaint. I understand that the strengths of the restaurant are the Italian classics. We probably should have stuck with that. read more

The owners Maurizo & Carolina are full of smiles. Being that it was my first time dining here they made it their business to introduce themselves to me. In my opinion that's what really separates a business apart from another business. A business that truly believes in customer service. We were served fresh bread along with two pieces of pizza bread. The bread did not come with any butter which I found strange. I guess you'd have to request it if you really needed it. Our waiter Caesar was nice and obliged our requests. We skipped appetizers we didn't need the extra calories. I ordered a Pinot Noir and placed my entree of the Chicken Parmigiana with Baked Ziti on the side. Healthy portions came out within 15 minutes. Mozzarella & fresh Black Pepper was added to my meal which made it all the more delicious. If you're in the area be sure to stop by. Great family run Italian restaurant! We made reservations on a sunny Sunday afternoon to sit outdoor. The patio is decorated really pretty and welcoming. We ordered the chicken parm dinner, the chicken with penne in vodka sauce, the eggplant parm, a Margherita pizza, and shrimp in marina sauce. All dishes come with sides with the choice of vegetable and potatoes, salad or pasta. I tried the spinach and roasted potatoes side and both were pretty good. The chicken and eggplant were also delicious as they make a really good sauce. My sister loved her vodka sauce dish. We also ordered a bottle of Sparking wine and a tiramisu for dessert. I still believe this hidden gem never disappoints when it comes to their quality ingredients perfectly prepared. But, I was taken aback when we were charged $3.30 for a second order of bread. Usually, there's a charge on the third order. Keep in mind, we're not talking about a half a loaf of bread here, we're talking about five small slices of Italian bread. I'm quite disappointed by this situation, especially because when my guest and I asked for a third round of bread, and the busboy said there would be a $3.00 charge. We responded by saying, we will NOT have a third helping of bread, yet we still got charged for it. I guess the bean counter didn't get the message. To say that I will never step foot in this place again is an understatement. It took 2 hours to get our food. When I asked to speak to a manager, the cook/owner came out and was very nasty. He said, "I've waited for two hours to get in a restaurant". A simple I am sorry, but we are understaffed tonight and have dessert on us" would have gone a long way. The waiter was apologetic, but the chef/owner came out to the table to try to justify what was happening. So unprofessional and not accommodating at all. Food came out and mine was cold. Over the years, one food establishment after another opened and closed in this location, and then came Piccolo Sogno. We have been eating here since the restaurant was established, about ten years ago, even before they had a liquor license. It was like being invited to dinner by friends. The ambiance is cozy, warm and intimate, the staff has always been excellent. This is a family-owned establishment: Caroline in the front tending to the fabulous pizzas, and Maurizio, the chef, is behind the scenes creating fabulous Northern Italian meals: he has a dish named for his daughter, Monia, and her three girls. My very favorite dish is Pollo alla Monia-simply irresistible and unique, and enough to feed an army. The meat sauce here is the best I have had anywhere. The menu has recently been expanded but if you know about something you like or that was previously on the menu (the salad delizioso!), just ask. In the warm months there is a wonderful outdoor dining area in the back; if you squint, you are in Italy. It is so pleasant you don't want to leave. Mind you, this is a tiny place, but Maurizio has maximized every inch to make this an inviting, delightful place to dine. He is constantly inventing, upgrading, and caring for this "little dream." The food is really good but was very disappointed when I picked up my order today. I walked my order to my car put it in the back seat, drove 3 blocks to my house and upon getting my bag out of the car the bottom of the bag ripped and the food fell out of the bag because the bottom of the bag was wet with grease from the packaging inside leaking. I spoke to the owner who told me that he's been having issues with the containers he uses and he would replace my order. When I went to pick up the new order (I did bring back the old order mind you) and was told by the other owner that moving forward it was not their problem if the bag ripped and once I left the store it was my problem. I could understand if I'm the one at fault but the fact that the faulty packaging allowed the bottom of the bag to get soaked in grease and the bag to rip is their responsibility. That's going to be the last time they get my money. The food is good but not that good. Bad customer service on the wife's behalf cost them my business. read more

I had heard several good things about this restaurant so I took my wife there last night. It's very disappointing, combination pizza joint and small dining area. Nothing fancy about this. The spaghetti was mushy and soft and the sauce was watery. The calamari was old . The entire experience was not good, the waitstaff was friendly. Only on-street parking. I've been to many Italian restaurants and this gets one star. The owners were offering two $50 gift cards to customers who gave it five stars. I don't recommend this place and I won't be going back. I was kind of excited to try this spot. Classic Italian food, and a pizza joint. The outside isn't very appealing and the inside was lack luster. There was a weird funky smell upon entering. Greeted with a smile and then asked table for how many. Said 2 and then just waited about 5 minutes to be acknowledged again. Headed over to our table. The table was clean, and dining utensils well kept. Menus were given and a drink menu was offered also. We ordered the eggplant rollatini for appetizers, the Chicken Parm with spaghetti, and the spaghetti carbonara. The eggplant rollatini wasn't even luke warm on the inside. The sauce was reminiscent of chef boyardee. It was bland and had an acidic taste to it. You could tell the dish was reheated in a microwave. Onto the main. The chicken parm was covered in a greasy layer of mozzarella cheese that was burnt and just thick. It felt like it was cheap store bought mozzarella. The sauce was the same used for the rollatini. So the taste wasn't great. The chicken breast was definitely not done in home. It was pre breaded and tasted bland. Felt like a deli made chicken cutlet sandwich. The spaghetti was cold and over cooked. The sauce was poured on it, to help mask that old stale sitting pre made spaghetti feeling. The carbonara was dreadful. The bits bacon was off putting, and gross. The sauce was watery and flavorless and the spaghetti was the same. Cold and flavorless. Pictures below you can see one of the spaghetti noodle being brunt / brown. I have no idea how this spot has a 4.4 star on Google. Only reason it's not a one star was because of the wait staff being friendly. Definitely won't repeat. read more

Great Italian Restaurant hidden in a residential area. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. We arrived as a party of 5 and were greeted immediately. We had called ahead and made reservation for the outdoor seating. We ordered a couple of dishes from chicken parm, personal pizzas and a shrimp dish. All were delicious and cooked to perfection. The chicken parm was flavorful and tasted like authentic chicken parm. The pizza was think and crisp. I wasn't a big fan of the tiramisu we ordered for dessert, they could improve on this. The service was super friendly and courteous. Overall, the place made me feel like i was having dinner at a friends house. This is our neighborhood go to! I'm so glad we found this place. Everything we've had so far is delicious, whether we eat in or take out. I highly recommend the chicken alla monia, a cheese calzone, the chicken cordon bleu and the fettuccine piccolo sogno. It is so cozy and comfy and they treat you like family, everybody knows you when you walk in. We eat or order from here once a week. They also have a really nice seating in the backyard and our 18 month old son is able to walk around without disturbing others. One of the best neighborhood spots! This is seriously one of our favorite places to order from, we generally do takeout and haven't actually went to the restaurant so my review is based solely on that. The delivery guy is always friendly, very polite and nice. Same with whomever answers the phone. They also make sure to repeat the order back. This is more of a mini Italian restaurant than a standard pizzeria. A little out of place for this neighborhood but I guess they manage to keep up their business. After perusing the menu (their prices are HIGH for a neighborhood eatery) and seeing the unappetizing slices in the window I settled on ordering the specialty pizza called the Rustico. It is topped with fresh mozz, artichoke hearts, prosciutto pieces, sausage and mushrooms. Hubs and I decided to take it to go since the dining room looked a little formal and all we wanted was to share the pizza. The pie isn't really large and more suitable for one but all the toppings make it quite filling. The edges stayed nice and crisp however the center does get soggy from all the toppings. Overall I really like the taste and have ordered this twice in the last 2 weeks. Maybe I'll try the pastas one of these days. read more

One of the best kept secrets in the neighborhood. This restaurant is fantastic. First time I went there was for a shower and we had a little of everything and I honestly loved everything. Next time I went in the winter and took my husband. He loved it and he is so picky. We love to sit outside in the warmer weather as they have a really pretty outside area you can eat in. The service is great and the owners are the nicest people and the head chef! They are very accommodating. We ordered Easter dinner from them and it was delicious and hot when we got it. I had the eggplant parmigiana and my husband had the chicken cordon bleu. We had pasta and vegetables (broccoli) with it. Fantastic! Will be doing a pick up order soon. What a sweet little spot! Pretty basic "pizza place" with anything but basic menu, and a magical little outdoor garden. There is ample parking in the neighborhood, which greets you with a pizzeria store front. Immediately my mind thought "Are we eating take out pizza dishes at table?" But as my eyes glanced over the large delicious looking plates being served in a cozy and rustic back restaurant, I may have indeed judged a book by its cover. Our party was quickly seated and given an assorted bread basket that was devoured and refilled before looking at our menus. The wait staff is super friendly and patient but makes you feel like family at home. We all shared some eggplant rollatini and mussels served in red sauce, both were satisfying as we drank and chatted while waiting for our entrees. My pork medallions with apple sauce was juicy and tender. Not overdone, but not pink either. Everyone was very pleasantly surprised with their dishes. My bf's parents brought me here for dinner on a Sunday night and I was at first unsure of this place. I don't like to eat out at Italian restaurants in Bayside because I've been disappointed so many times. Piccolo turned this around for me. The servers welcomed us inside and we were immediately seated. The restaurant itself is quite small but I overheard the chef say that they are expanding the space in the spring. The tight space didn't bother me too much since the food was good :) Rule #1 for me is good bread. There were two selections (italian and pizza bread). The bread came out warm and fluffy on the inside with a slight outer crunch. I had the filet of sole with onions, capers and green olives (in white wine sauce). Aside from the four bones I found (-1 star), the fish was cooked to perfection. The capers and olives gave a nice balanced saltiness. The bf ordered the chicken portobello (special of the night). It was prepared with a portobello mushroom cream sauce. I thought the sauce was flavorful but I am not a fan of cream sauce (too heavy and salty for my taste). Chicken was juicy and went well with the mushroom, and the bf devoured it. The bf's mom ordered the penne vodka. I tried a piece - the pasta was cooked al dente and accompanied by a tasty flavorful sauce. They also served a generous portion so the remainder had to be packed up to go. The bf's dad ordered the chicken piccalo sogno. I only tasted the sauce. It tasted like a rosemary mustard brown sauce. My bf said that the chicken in this dish was a tad dry (probably b/c it was the breast piece). Overall, I was very pleased with this place. What I loved most was seeing the chef walk out once in a while to greet his guests and regulars. Hubby had Penne del sindaco that has a la vodka sauce with bacon, you have the option to change the penne for any other kind of pasta that you would like I had fetuchinni golose, is like white cream sauce with prosciutto and sausage, but I ordered with sausage ob the side and addes fried calamari and they forgot the calamari when I called they were nice and sent a side but it was barely cooked. Second time we ordered pizza, and it was kind of slide to the side y very very salty! But it was thing crust I asked for square cut and it didn't happen, seems they have very hard time following special orders as they fail to follow in 2 orders in a row.
